The backup region is full! Can anyone help. - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Lately whenever I reboot my XDA II I get the error below; ***I would prefer to keep this information in the calander to review at a later date any notes I made and contacts.
The backup region is full! Please remove some items and then reset the device; otherwise, the device will stop updating the backup process.
Help! 1. is their a way of changing to backup region to my SD? If not is it possible to increase the storage for the backup region?
2. Where is the backup region???
3. if their is a better way of keeping this information always available i am open to suggestions.

Xbackup on the xda2 isnt an automatic prodedure so it cant be that, the only thing I can think of is the "permanent save" feature, but I have no idea how to redirect the data, it uses non volatile ram I think, maybe somebody knows a registry hack for it.

if you mean the auto backup controled by the perment save in settings then no
it auto updates and as SD cards are removable it cant cope
use a stand alone backup tool if you want to do stuff like that

Hello Rudegar, thanks for the reply, actually after I soft reset it provide a window showing the calander synchro and after the synchro it gave that message. It is not a setting I made, I have burned a new ROM from the kitchen and it does not do this anymore but as can be seen from my last posting (Problem with powering off after burning new ROM), I have a new problem.

SPV M1000's settings lost after battery empty

Hello,
I have a SPV M1000.
When the Primary battery and the backup battery are empty, I lost all my configuration.
I would like to know if there is a software (Solution) which make an image of the configuration and then I can put it on a SD card in order to restore all configuration, files, etc...
Thanks in advance,
Regards
Sure, there are a couple of solutions.
First, the back-up application (XBackup) installed on the device actually works, just do a back up to your SD card.
Secondly, Active Sync can do a complete backup (and restore).
You really should make a back-up using both of these apps. I keep a seperate 128 MB card for backup purposes, just in case my primary SD card gets corrupted.
Finally, Sprite Backup, a commercial thrid party application works (providing you use a pre-release of version 2.3). This is the fastest of the options and the one I use.

Contacts duplication after back-up
Thank you for illustrating all of these back-up methods...
When using them, do you get the problem of duplicating contacts and change of datestamp on all the PIM application when you try to syncronize again? Is there a way to avoid it?
I'm currently having this problem with XBack-up and the Active-Sync back-up utility...
Thanks,
Chris

SMS folder empty but showing 27 unread

I have a problem with my SMS folder.
It is showing that I have unread messages but the folder is empty.
I know I have recieved messages that I have not read.
Is there a way to read them/export/import them with something else before I hard reset to fix the problem?
Where are they stored and in what format?
Thanks.
Clean Mail
mindracing:
If you have restored a backup file using Sprite backup recently this would result in you seeing the read/unread SMS/Email messages without physical data... the only fix that they have come up with is a program to reset all data in your poutlook database, unfortunately erasing your data for good EVEN your email accounts that are present. Their file is attached and is to be ran on the PPC... KNOWING that it will RESET your Pocket Outlook to "factory" defaults, but in turn solve your problem. I think that there was a program to backup SMS messages, maybe you could look into it and see if it helps you before erasing them?
If you have not restored from a backup recently - I cannot help for I do not know.
- Cheers
Thanks,
Yes I have restored from a back-up.
Thanks for your help.
Hey
I have found I have the same problems myself (its why I dont use xBackup). However if your backup file was made with Sprite Backup then simply install the latest version on your device, then load it and open the backup file from the program (even if its self extracting). It will use the new restore functionality that fixes the problem. (After restoring the raw messages it 'patches' them.)
If your backup was made in a different program then your probably not going to be able to get the messages back easily or at all. The best option here is to simply manually copy them by hand if you can access them at all. I tried the ClearMail program once when I had a poor backup and it cleared everything but the bad texts!! Needed a hard reset. You can try using programs such as "SMS Cool!" and "Jeyo Mobile Companion" but I got connection error messages when I had a corrupted inbox.

I had the same problem restoring emails and SMS from sprite backup files myself until I upgraded to version 3.13. Seems like the problem has been resolved.
If you have your original backup files, the latest version should patch the mail database correctly and allow you to view the restored SMS.
Hope that helps.
FYI, WM2003SE is using this app Tmail.exe for the SMS. It is located in /Windows directory.
i had this when i used x back up and no matter what i did when i tried to text i would set it to use sms account but it would still try to use activesync account, so i restored an even older back up then restored the one that went funny and it worked fine. its done that twice and thats fixed it both times
Cleanmail fixed my problems.... but no I have no MMS database/inbox
anyone know how to rebuild it ?
thnx
mms after backup
I had this prob a while back when upgrading rom. I was unable to open mms App. Problem was when active sync runs it copied old files. if you delete the "mms ua" folder that is saved in my docs, uacontents. this gets rid of any messages you had b4 but you will be able to get into app.
hope this helps
solved it by restoring MMS folders from a backup..
Never loose your SMS again
You can save all your SMS/MMS onto your Storage Card. http://xpocketpc.fw.hu
really looking forward to an import feature
and please make that program work from Storage card !
it will also be more logical to run from storage card when you add "inport" feature ... than it can be used as backup/restore.
Bugfix Storage Card running.
I'm working on it.

I'm using Sprite Backup 3.1.4 and still I experience this kind of problem (error in messages specially in Activesync emails) every time I restore my backup.
Is there a way to fix this or is there a newer version of Sprite Backup?
I don’t know which backup tool is better. SunnySoft or Sprite backup?
Use spriteback to backup anything except messaging and use sunnysoft or dopod SMS backup to backup messaging.
Let us wait for the sprite team to release their version 4 of sprite backup

no, you should go and report it , they promised a fix as early as november last year.... if more people ask, it will eventually be done...
releasing "new version" befare the current one is working is like saying " ok what I bought is not working as advetised, so now i give you more money to fix that bug and buy version 4, meybe now you will deliver ?"

Um.. well you have a point.. you can blame sprite if they released a new version and they wanted us to pay again for upgrade then i think its against the law.. ill try to contact sprite.. btw, does the problem on messaging is writen on their website telling that "warning: this current version of sprite is still sh!t in restoring messaging"??
no they do not warn people
and : Sprite backup does NEVER restore MMS contents correctly on blue-angels. (they know and confirmed it)
AND:
if you try to restore only SMS or any other single DB, then the new, blang MMS DB will be corrupted and useless.
They know that too.
LOL.
No they don't have any warning in their website. the only thing you can see in their web site are:
Features
Benefits
BUY NOW
And no trial although they have this "Instead of offering a trial version, we provide a 30 day Money-back Guarantee. This is because we do not expect users to evaluate the application by removing all their data and then restoring it."
I will try to help!...

Backup/Restore

Hi All,
I have a noob question and I hope gurus out there can help.
How do you all deal with backup/restore of different settings?
I spent a lot of time reading about UC today, and I managed to make it work for installing CABs and folders.
1) TF3D Settings (contacts/mail tab/programs tab)
2) Standard WM6 settings (such as notifications, buttons, menus) <proxml?>
3) Active Sync Partnership Settings (<-- Think you can use SKTOOLS, but haven't tried)
I am aware of PIM Backup, but when I restore from it TF3D cannot detect the restored mail folders.
Thanks in advance.

Hi I'm no guru and I'm keen to see what others have to say in regards to your questions.
I struggle to be able to get most things to back up correctly.
I use PIM back up before I flash a new rom.
I am able to get it to restore my contacts and my messages fine but that's about it. One problem I always find is if I use PIM to restore contacts before using active sync and outlook I get duplicate contacts and birthdays every time. So make sure you sync with your PC before running PIM backup/restore.
I've never been able to get anything like settings, preferences or button settings to restore.
I've also tried sprite backup but never been able to work out what it actually does. It uses about 80mb storage and takes forever yet seems to do nothing.
One thing I have read is that most people recommend not backing up or restoring personal (messages/contacts is ok) settings when using different roms.
I maybe wrong.
I've just created a folder on my SD card with all my favourite programs in it. Nowdays it doesn't take long to get back up and running after flashing to a new rom
Lets wait for some of the higher powers to reply

I just got the Fuze and I was wondering the same thing. I already downloaded and installed the .cab file to change my clock and theme. And I was wondering whether or not I should back up my programs, files, contacts, etc.??
Restore 101 after flashing
As a ROM flashing junkie I tried several ways how to setup my phone and restore all settings and data within 30 min. or less.
First of all you should know your phone and you should know what you NEED and what's NICE TO HAVE.
Check which apps have to run on the phone (mainly dialers, skins, task managers, g-sensor and backlight apps).
Install your apps which need not to run on the phone on the SD card.
Figure out which apps HAVE to be installed and which one are quiet happy with a "send link to programs". You may wonder how many can be run that way (WeFi, Total Commander, DiamondTV, WVD, SPBOnline, MSLiveSearch, PHM Regedit, HiCalc even SKTools and WK-Task to name a few).
Either understand what UC does and prepare your sdconfig.txt up front or use SASHIMI (very easy to set up! You just copy the cabs to the auto or auto\sc directory). You may import your owner and reg key entries as well but be careful, pending how the ROM is cooked reg entry import can be fatal!
PIM backup using SPB Backup as software and just save on the SD card.
I use SPBBackup because I never ran into any compatibility issues from my Tilt times swapping between winmo 5 and winmo6 and winmo 6 to winmo6.1.
Furthermore SPBBackup creates a self running exe, no need to install any software to restore.
Flash ROM or hard reset
Restore PIM
Install Sashimi
Open Sashimi and install apps (either on device or SD - see above)
Soft reset
Open FileExplorer or TotalCommander go to "SD\Program Files" and send shortcuts to Programs
Assign Programs in Programs Tab under TF3D
Add your custom weather cities.
Set up a simple numeric password and a timeout to 12 h!
This may be very important because winmo has a bug. In case you do not apply a hack, active sync will automatically assign the email password as boot password (enforced security policy). In case you happen to have an alphanumeric password and didn't set a "complex" password under the lock feature you wont be able to unlock your phone after a soft reset because you wont have the capability to enter alphanum. values!!!!
Soft reset
Open active sync and set it up to sync with a server (in case you use a corp. email account).
Soft reset
Done
Some UC allows you to install selectively on SD or device but rather than editing a txt file I copy the apps I need in a directory and let software install it.
Note on full restore:
SPB Backup and other programs as well do have a "restore after ROM upgrade" function where you may restore ALL programs and settings to the phone. Even though there is a feature "do not overwrite existing settings" and "do not restore password" in a lot of cases this restore simply fails. I assume that this is based on the different cores of winmo the chefs use and I ran into too many problems as in "wrong password" or hangs on certain applications that I do a PIM backup/restore ONLY.

Upgrade ROM version - setting backup&restore possible?

Hi, I plan to upgrade my older Artemis ROM to the current version. Is it possible to backup the installed apps, the contacts/ desktop setup (shortcut icon placement, widget settings), etc?
And of course to restore them with he new ROM. Pretty much what Titanium Backup does for android.
Or do I have to save everything manually somehow?
PS: I did a search
Hi GabbO2,
I have the same plan. Currently I'm on V64 and also using CHT 2.0.0.0. I made a backup of the CHT settings, a backup of the Artemis settings with Artemis Center and a full SPB backup. Almost all of my apps and all my data are on the storage card, so they don't need to be installed after flashing. For apps necessarily to be installed on the intern storage I use the cooked in Mass installer. Please take a look in the Artemis thread help files for a detailed overview of the Mass Installer funcionality.
1. Flash ROM
2. Mass Installer
3. Restore CHT settings
4. Restore Artemis Center settings
5. Restore SPB backup
As far as I understood from what I've been reading here on the forum, that's what has to be done to get my familiar settings back after flashing a ROM. I will use this procedure tomorrow, when I have a little time.
The preparation for this is a little bit time consuming, but you will only have to do it once and then you got a full sytem recovery.
Regards
Getrid
(phhhh, after following the board for a long time - finally my first post Big thanks to all board members from whom I learned so much and still learning)
Danke, very helpful
Be carefull by using SPB backup.
Due to user reports in the past SPB backup saves and restores also system files, which could cause problems.
contacts / appointments / SMS can be saved by PIMBackup
@Getrid: Congratulations to your first post.

Oh, I'll keep that in mind. So deselection of the system files option in SPB Backup should prevent trouble, right?

spb it can mess with your sim so take it out befor u back up
Taking out SIM and SD card before flashing a ROM via USB is mandatory to me. I know, it's usually not recommended, but I like to secure things
Anyway, thanks for the advice.

Samsung Smart switch does not encrypt backup on computer

Hey guys, I have tried backing up my S9+ with smart switch with the encrypted option but it does not encrypt the backup on my computer. It asks for the PIN at start and the backup completes 100% but when I go to the folder on my computer the backup isn't encrypted and everything that was backed up is visible. I remember when I had a iPhone when you choose the option to encrypt the backup you couldn't open the backup without the password. What I am trying to do is backup my phone and have the backup be encrypted so that if my computer is compromised no one can get into the backup and see all my personal stuff. Also note I do not want anything to do with the cloud, I dont want any files going to some data storage place out of my control, so I dont want to use cloud or Samsung backup.
So whats the deal? anyone else have this issue?
Please help!

The most recent Smart Switch Update - 4.2.18052.28
You can only access backup data on your computer when your device is connected to it. You can also password protect your data. Open Smart Switch on your device before connecting to your computer, top right press the 3 dots, select Settings.
The following settings are available:
Enchance transfer security: Protect your content with security code authentication during transfer.
Password-protect files: Require a password to restore backup files from SD cards and USB storage devices.
You'll see a PIN, enter this PIN into your phone to connect manually.
Unfortunately that does not work, I am using Smart Switch Update - 4.2.18052.28 selected every option to encrypt the backup on the PC app and phone app but I can still access the folder and view everything, with or without the phone connected. Samsung switch saves to c:\users\yourusername\documents\samsung there I can see the entire backup file, photos docs, etc.

Other options are password protection for your PC at boot up and/or make the folder invisible. This can be done in Control Panel/Folders.

I have done that but its not very secure, most advance techies can break through it. I have also used windows bitlocker but that too seems not be very secure. I just dont understand why it doesnt work. This is one area that Apple has it figured out, which sucks because I hate apple LOL.
BitLocker isn't secure?
There is no evidence that it can be easily broken. No evidence.
Also, if you're worried about your computer getting compromised, focus on closing that hole first.
Alternatively, just encrypt your backups after they're made. Plenty of software around to help you do just that.
Encryption will lock you out sooner or latter.
Maybe a loved one after your death.
Damage hdds, flash memory and files can be difficult to recover even without encryption.
Just remember once you encrypt it, it may became a secret the everyone including you.
