Hi...im a n00b here but really need help
ok...i tried upgrading my SX56 to 2003 thru siemens website. I followed directions like it told me. I put the phone in its cradle, didnt pick up any calls (nor did i recieve any calls), and then BAM...it got stuck at 10% for like 30mins - 1 hour. so i was like, umm ok. it froze?
i then took it off the cradle and did a soft reset hoping it would fix the problem....but yet, i was wrong...it doesnt show anything. so i proceed to make a Hard-Reset. now its totally screwed.
is my device gone for good?
well, i then reinstalled my ROM using the Program i found here at this site. I used the SD-Card method. I put the files in my card, insert it into the device, and held down the power button while performing a soft reset. This is where i got to the FLASHING screen where i think its copying the files to my phone? well, after this was finished, it told me to make a COLD reset. i assumed it meant soft reset, so i did.
now, here the window screen shows
all it is showing is
G
R
A.30.09
that's it? and it stays like that. can sumone help me plz
I got the same problem. Check my posts, I'll check yours. It sucks not having the P/PC and only the bootloader. I still have not fixed my phone and my day of optimism is comming to an end. My fear of having a dead phone is slowly creeping up. Anyway, good luck with your problem. Val.
A cold reset means you unscrew the top of your stylus and insert it into the tiny hole on the bottom right of your xda, the one with the red mark on, press once which will disconnect battery power, leave for one minute, press again will switch it back on. This always needs to be carried out following rom upgrade.

Dear Gurus ...
I need help. During the upgrading process, the connection was disconnected and my XDAII is currently not showing any sign of life.
I ran through the forum, and tries a lot of stuff:
1) try to reset it to bootloader (pwr+joy+reset) - nothing
2) change USB port - nothing
3) setting in MsActiveSync - nothing
There is no display on the screen right now. Even if I put it in to charge there is nothing, no flashing blue led etc ... just dead ....
One thing I noticed is that after removing the battery, and putting it into the cradle, there is a red led light up.
Currently I ran out of options and can only think off taking out the battery for the XDAII to drain completely (not sure if this could help me get into the bootloader mode).
Any one out there who has any bright ideas? Pls help as I am desperate to fix my XDAII .... thanks ....

I had the same problem but I didn't loose hope. I kept on resetting it until I was able to get into the bootloader mode. It was black with some writings "SERIAL 1.06". When I put it back on cradle, Serial changed into USB 1.06. Tried to do the upgrade over and over again but didn't work. I put AC Adapter to my cradle and hard reset my unit, put back to the cradle, started the upgrade again and it worked.

There are several Golden Rules when upgrading - not just to SE, but any upgrade.
Always make sure the cradle is attached directly to a USB port on the PC and not through a hub.
Always make sure the power supply is connected to the cradle.
Disable USB in Activesync connection settings.
Disable any screensavers
If an error does occur, putting your device into bootloader mode and restarting the upgrade often proceeds OK.
Bootloader mode can be a little tricky to obtain as the multi-directional button has to be pressed directly down in the middle - not tilted up, tilted down, tilted left or tilted right, at the same time as pressing the power button and the reset switch.
It is very easy to assume bootloader is not working when it may just take several attempts before you get it right.

My qtek2020 dead because it's my mistake I upgrade it to SE correctly but with Chinese Version and before DCS post his ROM when I saw it's working better than my PDA2K I try to flash my qtek2020 with the PDA2K ROM ( I make some HEX editing ) but with no luck my qtek2020 is totally dead
Any body have solution !
How I recover from my dead XDA II ..
I have to agree with DCS that those are the rules and you need to follow them properly. It's not the ROM that's having the problem but the procedure needs to be followed.
In my case I didn't have the Sync cable properly connected (I bought a new sync cable & I didn't use the cradle) to upgrade the XDAII (duh!).. and I paid the price of having my heart droped on the floor ..
My nightmare started when the cable came loose halfway through the upgrade, so the XDA kind of "hung" and when I tried to reset it, it refuse to show any signs. Do a small test. My guess is as long as you take out the battery, put the XDA II into the charger (without a battery), and the red light comes on, that's a good sign.
For those who is stuck in this situation try this steps:
1) Remove the main battery
2) Leave it out for at least 30mins (to drain the backup battery)
3) Go make your self a coffee or watch TV (time flies faster than staring at your XDAII)
4) Put the battery back (at this stage it still won't work)
5) Put the XDAII into the AC Charger (give it a good 5mins charge)
6) Then keep doing the hard reset (just don't give up, it's like doing CPR, your XDAII will show "Serial 1.06" after a good hard resets ...)
Those steps above did work for my XDAII .... and it should work for most cases as I believe when we upgrade (the ROM) we don't touch the bootloader. Sometimes when we screw up, the XDAII got "hung" and it needs a good "cold boot". Taking the battery out won't help because the backup battery is still in. After a good "cold boot" the XDAII will boot into the bootloader and you can resume your upgrade ;-)
NOTE : Do keep your fingers cross through out the entire process.
PS: Thanks to DCS, Twinkle, mamaich and many others who contributed to this fine forum ... Long live the XDA I, II, IIs, III .... beyond ....
How to upgrade my BOOOTLOADER VERSION (it shows USB 1.01)
Is there a way to change my bootloader version from USB 1.01 to 1.06? I'm currently using T-Mobile MDA-II.
Thanks beforehand!
I have a big problem: this summer i dropped my MDA2 on a concrete floor and i broke the power button so I cant make anything but soft reset, or to remove the battery for 30 min for hard reset.

Thanx to dcs i was able to get my device working again.
During upgrade (wich was also possible due to time and effort by DCS) my laptop went into standby for unknown reason.
So my xda got stuck in T-Mobile bootscreen
It was this thread and especially the posting by dcs wich saved my ass (and xda)
for i did not know about the reset with third button to get into bootloader.
Now i finally upgraded to 2003SE.
Thanx DCS!!

Just searching through the old threads and I found this post by alvinlim28. I have the same simptoms, white screen, won't start, I get the red light when I remove the battery and place the hima in the craddle, so I guess I'll be up all night trying to get into bootloader and reflash. Thanks all for the contribution in this forum, and thank God for the search option

No luck tonight, I'll keep trying tomorrow gtg to sleep now.

Umm what do you mean by "missing an OS"??
Hi Scott,
which XDA do you have? Do you get an error message when the device starts up? I don't know if this would help since the talk at this link is specifically about upgrading to WM 2003 from PPC 2002 and obviously you would need to have the previous OS on the PPC. However if you have an XDA I, this might give you a basis to work off of.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pocketpc/upgrade.mspx
Have a look in the Wallaby FTP folder as well:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wallaby/
Good Luck
basically i bought it off ebay knowing there wasnt an OS on it, when i received the phone i cant turn it on, so how do i put the OS back on the XDA?
its an XDA PW10A1
Pressing the power button and doing a soft reset doesnt work, in fact nothing does, i cant get to the bootloader as the phone doesnt even switch on. The only thing i do notice is when i press hard reset the light near the headphone jack turns red. And sometimes the power light will flicker red, but thats all it does.
Ive got a memory card and I can write to it, if someone can help me get this thing back up and running i would be extremely grateful.

The symptoms you are describing are very similar to those that appeared on my PW10A2 recently.
Try the following:
Put it in the cradle for quite a period, say 15 minutes or so. If it comes up with some screen (whatever) take it out of the cradle, press the power on button while doing a soft-reset simultaneously. When it then comes up with the wallaby bootloader you may have good chances.
I managed (with the help of this forum) to get a new ROM installed from the SD by this method.
ok ill try that! thanks
how did you get the OS rom back onto the XDA?
Also could I be missing the Bootloader on the XDA itself?
ok i tried what you said and nothing works i dont even get a screen flicker!
i really need help as i dont have a phone at the moment and need it for work.

Hmm. Shot in the dark:
Blown fuse on the main board?
Does the LED get lit in any color when you put it in the cradle?
How long did you leave it in the cradle?
Do you have access to another cradle?
yeh i get the charge light when it sits in the cradle (orange light). plus i have two cradles n they both "appear" to charge it. Ive left the phone in the cradle for a whole day and nothing.
Did you do a cold reset?
Does it react (go on) if you press the on-button when it sits in the cradle?
Did you try the soft-reset+Onbutton (enter Wallaby boot loader)?
I'm no expert. I'm only repeating what I learned so far here in this forum
no mate none of those methods work either!
i aint got a clue whats wrong with it!!
I have a Cingular 3125, working fine for weeks, happened that two days ago, I was charging the phone and transferring files to my computer via Bluetooth, nothing unusual, then it just got frozen, nothing responding, so I just took out the battery to manual reset the device and reinserted it, then tried to turn on the device, but it refuses to boot, no lights at all, also when I attach the phone charger, it doesnt show the usual orange led when charging, but I can feel that the phone gets warmer because the charger is attached and then after a while it gets a bit cooler, just like when it finishes charging, the usual behavior, but again, no lights at all trying to boot it or even attaching the charger, I've tried taking the battery off for hours and nothing also, and I wasnt overclocking the phone... would you say it just died? or maybe someone had same issues and solved it someway? thanks.
try this
OK, I don't remember where I read this, or the exact procedure, but give this a try.
remove the battery, press and hold the red call end key (power key) for 30-45 seconds. insert battery and do a hard reset, IE.. power on holding the 2 top soft keys while powering on the phone.
this method is supposed to clear any mother board issues and reset the phone. It has been a couple of years since I read the procedure so I am not sure if this is the correct way, if it does not work, try the same thing, only try taking the battery out, then put it back in and press and hold the power key for 30 - 45 seconds.
may or may not work, but can't hurt to try.
i had the same problem with startrek which i had bought from eBay
one more advice - try to hold record (notes) and camera buttons and insert an USB cable to your PC, it should enter to Bootloader mode
well, I have dissasembled the whole thing, I havent reached anything, even disconnected the backup battery, nothing, have checked battery with a multimeter and is full loaded... in short, someway the cell phone seems has just died, Erofich, to enter bootloader mode, the phone must turn on, it just doesnt want to start at all, no lights when connecting charger or USB cable... I'm sad because it was working fine with no problems for three months and more sad because it's the end for me to windows cellphones for a long time, I've invested a lot in this phone, accesories, unlocking, and even the same day it died also bought more memory and a neat skin cover and I'm not in mood to invest more in a cell phone so I'll use a spare crappy feature phone.
Thanks for your support.
one last effort
You could try one last thing, this has worked for me with a couple of startreks,
take the phone apart, and take the motherboard out, use a hair dryer to heat the motherboard, don't get crazy with it, but using the hair dryer on the high setting for about 30 to 45 seconds at about 3-5 inches, might revive the phone. (don't heat the battery, just the motherboard)
Put the phone back together while it is still hot (but not so hot that it will burn your fingers) and try to fire it up.
This has worker for me in 3 cases (phones that I bought off eBay that had the same symptoms as you have described)
good luck
big problem!!!!!!!!
I have been struggling to flash (again) the great pro V2 rom, but I always used my VMWare based XP windows version on my Vista laptop. Today I could use a genuine XP Laptop and I could make a connection and start the upgrade!
Sounds good? That's what I thought too, until the upgrade stopped at 70% (and I didn't touch anything), because of a connection error. I followed the text on my PC screen and I finally it started flashing again for a few seconds and then my startrek suddenly restarted, but it stops at the first splash screen! I tried to get my device back to bootloader mode (push 2 soft buttons and start), but no bootloader mode, only the 1st splash.
I solved the problem.
Hi all,
I need an advice from you guys please:
My Topaz is not turning on, it simply does not do anything.
Last time I wanted to change the language but my battery was not fully charged, so in the process it suddenly turned off and since that time I am not able to turn it on, does not display nothing on screen when I press the on button it just vibrates continuously and not stop, and that´s it...
The charging light was on the 1st time I tried, but not the second time.
It is SIM unlocked but not hardspl´ed
Any advice would be great!
Thanks in advance
UPDATE 13-Mar-10
Today, I connected Topaz to wall charger, amber led turned for about 10 sec, then turns of, then vibrates, then nothing again.
I tried to do hard reset, nothing happened, then after some minutes the device is short vibrating every 1 min aprox, no led on, still can´t do nothing more.
EDIT: After 15 min of short vibrating every 1 min, now it´s completely dead again........
Thanks for reading,
Can you put it in bootloader? Is a hardreset possible?
Try to turn the phone off, remove battery, and insert it again. Then hold vol down and press power. Do you get red/green/blue (or whatever) colors?
If you do. let it boot until it says USB (perhaps need to connect usb to PC for it to change from serial to usb) and after that just run the topaz ruu and it should flash.
If you dont get it to start to 3 color screen try and hold up+down and press power.
yes, Vol down and powerbutton. should boot to serial/usb flash screen.
Thanks guys for your reply
Soon as I get home I´ll try and report back
Cheers,

Hi
Just check that if you try to reflash the ROM whether you should use a stock ROM vs modified ROM as you wrote that you do not have HardSPL on your Topaz.
Once you have successfully reflashed using stock ROM do a hard reset and then install HardSPL 1.83.
Good luck

Still need help!!
Ok guys,
Let me explain you what happened:
None of the instructions above worked...
Can´t put on bootloader, hard reset nothing happens
When connected to wall charger amber led is on, if I press power button led turns off and vibrates, then led turns on again but nothing else happens.
Pressed down vol and power = Nothing happens
Pressed up/down vol and power = nothing happens
EDIT: Connected to PC and automatuically installed a qualcomm driver not detected also by WMDC
Disconnected from PC then connected again to wall charger and now amber led not turns on....
Please help!!
Any other advice please!
I really don´t know what else to do
Thanks in advance for taking your time on this thread
Per your PM, I'll certainly help you if I can.
Do you happen to know what caused it to brick? This will help determine how to bring it back. Did you attempt to flash a custom ROM w/o HSPL?
I am not an expert on this but have seen some chefs claim they can bring back a bricked device.
There is a program called MTTY that can usually get your phone to connect to your PC and there are functions to run in that program that can get it to a flashable state so you can reflash your shipped ROM.
Also search the Wiki for restoring bricked device, regardless of the model, it should be the same process. I think I have seen this in the Tilt(Kaiser) forum and maybe in the Fuze (Raphael) forum.
I haven't used this program in a while so I forget the commands but you should be able to find them in a search.
In the meantime I'll do a little research too and see what I can find out.
The main thing we need to accomplish is getting you back into bootloader mode.
1. Here is a link for recovering a Hermes and it has info on mtty.
Thanks a lot Bruce,
I have the original ROM and my Topaz is the unbranded model.
I was just trying to change language but battery was too low, then it turned of and you know the rest of the story.
I have it SIM unlocked but not hardspl´ed and I was not doing any ROM upgrade or so...
I´ll try to use MTTY and find about your recommendations, later report back.
I appreciate a lot your reply!
Cheers,
EDIT: Tested MTTY but in some point says "power on the unit " but that is what I can´t do, nothing happens
Will continue testing and searching...
This is from the Wiki. It may help. Says to use PUTTY instead of MTTY... with instructions.
Another thread on recovering device.

Thanks Bruce,
I went through both links but nothing...
The main prob is that I can´t even make it turn on...
Now when wall charger is plugged I do not have the charging led on, so I am really lost...
I do not have another battery to test but I don´t think is that because Topaz is almost new!
But Now I think it´s not charging the battery...
Hope any other idea can save me
If it is almost new try to send it to warranty!if it has the original hspl no prob then!is better then trying to reapair youself, with the cost of loosing warranty!
Good luck with that!!!
Thanks, but I do not have that option
I have high hopes with all the great team of XDA!
first thing first, you have to have power in your phone.....borrow the battery from someone or recharge your battery in somebody else's phone.......then try to go in to bootloader mode (volume button down and power button)..........

Yep!
I ordered today another battery
Soon as I get it will report back.
Thanks,
Maybe this will help
It happened to me once. Nothing seemed to work. What did work, I left the phone charging for a day. First take ou the battery for at least a minute. Put it back on. Then connect the wall charger to the phone and let it charge. Hope this will help.
When it happened to me the LED wasn't working either, just connect the charger and let it charge.
Thanks,
I done that yesterday and left it all night but nothing...
I really hope is a battery problem, I´ll find out soon as I receive my new one
wrong place
Exactly samething happened to me.. the only difference was that I was using google maps and connected to my car charger. It somehow didn't charge and ran out of power and kept restarting whenever I tried to charge from a wall-socket.
This is what i did... worked for me.
Take out the battery from the back
Hold down the power button for at least 30 seconds to drain out the static charge.
Take out the sim
Plug in the USB to the phone (without the battery and without the sim)
With the phone connected, press the Red button at the back (soft reset)
Unplug the phone from the charger
Put the battery back in
Connect the USB to charge
Cross your fingers and say a lil prayer
Wait for 30 minutes
Turn it back on.
Lemme know how that goes 4 u
Thanks
I done all your procedure but after this point: [*]Connect the USB to charge
Led charging light did not turned on...
By now my only chance is to test with a new battery (which I will receive on thursday), but I do not have too many hopes as the device is almost new
I´ll report back on friday.
Thanks to all and I will be happy to receive any other suggestion
