Umm what do you mean by "missing an OS"??
Hi Scott,
which XDA do you have? Do you get an error message when the device starts up? I don't know if this would help since the talk at this link is specifically about upgrading to WM 2003 from PPC 2002 and obviously you would need to have the previous OS on the PPC. However if you have an XDA I, this might give you a basis to work off of.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/pocketpc/upgrade.mspx
Have a look in the Wallaby FTP folder as well:
ftp://ftp.xda-developers.com/Wallaby/
Good Luck
basically i bought it off ebay knowing there wasnt an OS on it, when i received the phone i cant turn it on, so how do i put the OS back on the XDA?
its an XDA PW10A1
Pressing the power button and doing a soft reset doesnt work, in fact nothing does, i cant get to the bootloader as the phone doesnt even switch on. The only thing i do notice is when i press hard reset the light near the headphone jack turns red. And sometimes the power light will flicker red, but thats all it does.
Ive got a memory card and I can write to it, if someone can help me get this thing back up and running i would be extremely grateful.

The symptoms you are describing are very similar to those that appeared on my PW10A2 recently.
Try the following:
Put it in the cradle for quite a period, say 15 minutes or so. If it comes up with some screen (whatever) take it out of the cradle, press the power on button while doing a soft-reset simultaneously. When it then comes up with the wallaby bootloader you may have good chances.
I managed (with the help of this forum) to get a new ROM installed from the SD by this method.
ok ill try that! thanks
how did you get the OS rom back onto the XDA?
Also could I be missing the Bootloader on the XDA itself?
ok i tried what you said and nothing works i dont even get a screen flicker!
i really need help as i dont have a phone at the moment and need it for work.

Hmm. Shot in the dark:
Blown fuse on the main board?
Does the LED get lit in any color when you put it in the cradle?
How long did you leave it in the cradle?
Do you have access to another cradle?
yeh i get the charge light when it sits in the cradle (orange light). plus i have two cradles n they both "appear" to charge it. Ive left the phone in the cradle for a whole day and nothing.
Did you do a cold reset?
Does it react (go on) if you press the on-button when it sits in the cradle?
Did you try the soft-reset+Onbutton (enter Wallaby boot loader)?
I'm no expert. I'm only repeating what I learned so far here in this forum
no mate none of those methods work either!
i aint got a clue whats wrong with it!!

Hi...im a n00b here but really need help
ok...i tried upgrading my SX56 to 2003 thru siemens website. I followed directions like it told me. I put the phone in its cradle, didnt pick up any calls (nor did i recieve any calls), and then BAM...it got stuck at 10% for like 30mins - 1 hour. so i was like, umm ok. it froze?
i then took it off the cradle and did a soft reset hoping it would fix the problem....but yet, i was wrong...it doesnt show anything. so i proceed to make a Hard-Reset. now its totally screwed.
is my device gone for good?
well, i then reinstalled my ROM using the Program i found here at this site. I used the SD-Card method. I put the files in my card, insert it into the device, and held down the power button while performing a soft reset. This is where i got to the FLASHING screen where i think its copying the files to my phone? well, after this was finished, it told me to make a COLD reset. i assumed it meant soft reset, so i did.
now, here the window screen shows
all it is showing is
G
R
A.30.09
that's it? and it stays like that. can sumone help me plz
I got the same problem. Check my posts, I'll check yours. It sucks not having the P/PC and only the bootloader. I still have not fixed my phone and my day of optimism is comming to an end. My fear of having a dead phone is slowly creeping up. Anyway, good luck with your problem. Val.
A cold reset means you unscrew the top of your stylus and insert it into the tiny hole on the bottom right of your xda, the one with the red mark on, press once which will disconnect battery power, leave for one minute, press again will switch it back on. This always needs to be carried out following rom upgrade.

WBR.
Come on guys
Someone must know how to sort this out??
can it be fixed?
its in warrenty, but not sure if they would be able to tell what i have done
Have you tried just flashing the ROM again?
Can you still enter the bootloader ?
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Athena_Resets
Cant see the phone
hi, i cant re-rflash as when i connect to the pc, it does not see it,
thinking the only way im going to get this sorted out is to return it to t-mobile, just hope it would still be under warrenty, anyway i could cover it,
maybe a magnet stuck to it for a few days might help when they check it over??
thanks
just tried hard reset and bootloader reset again, with batter in, charger in, just charger ect
still no rwesponse
just red ring of dead around joystick, when using charger only
Try this, exactly:
- disconnect any cable;
- remove the battery;
- the SIM;
- wait 10 seconds;
- put the battery back;
- enter bootloader (camera button - pressed down all the way - with comm. manager + reset).
If you don't get the bootloader screen (with various color stripes on the screen), then yes, your Athena's unfortunately bricked.
Nooooooooooooooo
nothing at all mate,
but i guess the battery could be flat,
is there no way to get it to power up,
do you think i could send it away under warrenty?

Anyone near you that can lend you a fully charged battery? Alternatively buy a cheap spare battery.
@onkyojonny
Where are you located?
im near ashford in east sussex, and work in london, if someone can sort it out im happy to make a donation ;-)
thanks
Concerning the return, if you're not able to enter even bootloader mode, all that will be left is to return it, but it's indeed true that if they see your SPL's modified, for instance, they might send it back to you with a "sorry" note. :-S
is there noone on this forum that can sort it out??
rather that than send it back,
Bootloader's the absolute minimum that you need to recover from apparent bricking. If you don't, then I don't know of any "software" mean to rescue your Athena, alas.

Hi
I just had this happen to me, but for completely different reasons. I left my Athena on charge for an hour when the battery was at 10%. It then showed 60%. I then wanted to check that my spare battery had some charge, so I swapped battery and got into exactly the same situation that you have, red light on charger and nothing on either battery.
After reading this forum I tried procedure of taking everything out inc. SIM and leaving it for a minute, still no joy on the 1st battery. Left it again for a minute and tried the 2nd battery and it came to life instantly and booted. The 2nd battery reports 100% charge.
I would suggest that you buy / borrow a battery and try it. It is highly frustrating that you can't use the Athena mains only & swap batteries, but you can't, I tried. If you order a battery (I got one for £11, it is a Cameron Sino which have a bad reputation but it lasts all day, can't argue with that) you should get it tomorrow in the post.
I will see if now that it is working the OEM battery works. It may be that it has not charged properly.
Hope you get it working again.

Follow up, yes it worked when I put the OEM battery back in, still with the SIM out. I have now put the SIM back in and the 2nd battery & all OK. Very unscientifically I would say that taking everything out & using a fresh battery seems to have fixed mine.
yes, one of my (aftermarket) batteries produced the same symptoms just yesterday. it was in a near fully discharged state (< 5%)... so i wanted to put it in the athena and charge it. but athena would not turn on, just the red light. charging did not make a difference.
put the other battery back that was in it previously, it booted instantly, then i put the discharged one in and it still booted and then i was able to charge it up.
note: at other cases i can still boot the athena with such a discharged battery, they have enough juice in them, apparently the problem was something else.
...though i have a desktop charger for the thing.. just didn't feel like trying to dig it up. anyway here is a cheap battery AND desktop charger: http://cgi.ebay.com/Battery-Charger...hZ010QQcategoryZ20350QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
the charger should charge your battery up without having to buy a new battery (except the seller gives you one as a bonus) and hope it has enough charge in it. might help someone hopefully

Hi Guys,
I have recently successfully flashed my Nike to the NIKI_ROM_MARY_v0.3.3. It was working fine for the past 3 days apart from the odd frozen screen coming out of sleep mode (i think that had to do with some sleep/lock setting)
Then out of the blue I notice it power was off.
- I tried pressing and holding down the power button
- Removing the SIM, micro SD and battery and replacing with another battery
- Connecting to PC
- Charging
All to no avail...
Has anyone have any other suggestions before I return for warranty?
This worked for me; take the battery out leave the sim and memorycard inside the phone, attach the powercord wich is connected to the wallsocket ofcourse and switch the phone on, and then insert the battery........
2nd post cannot delete it?
i'm not sure but i dont think they will repair under warranty as you have changed the software
Same issue
I have the same issue with Mary's v4.0, if i reset or switch off the phone, it just dies, whatever I do it will not switch on.
I managed after 2 days, the keep trying to plug in ac power, with no battery, got a red charge light and then insert the battery, then hold down the power button, finally it booted, now i dare not switch off or soft reset.

if this does not work, then hold the on button and keep trying to insert, then remove and insert the battery until it starts (hopefully).
Just flashed another ROM, so doubt its ROM related, my suggestion is do the above, flash back to your original ROM and SPL, then send it back under warranty, this will be my 4th NIKI under warranty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This worked for me. Seems to be a problem with the HTC Touch Dual. Several people I know have had the phone shut down for no reason. After the above, I did a soft reset.. No problems since... Touch wood!

Hmm, okay I know it's an old thread but I have the same issue but it happened with the original rom, I finally bring the phone back to life unfortenally not with my own sim-card.
For now I'm scared to do a sofreset because I think I lost my phone again just wondering what I can do, maybe someone on this forum have a solution for this.
Regards
I had exactly the same problem... may anyone be more specific?

Hi teorouge, sometimes I got my phone back, what I did was:
1. Remove battery
2. Pressing softreset button about 10 times.
3. Insert battery and keep pressing the powerbutton until the phone reacts.
It's not a fix, the only thing you can do is use the phone but if you do a softreset the problem is back.
Personally I think the powercircuit is broken, I had to buy myself another Niki.

Thanks for the answer, I gave the Niki back to his owner... it's a corporate phone so he shouldn't personally pay any money (and me neither, that's for sure!) to get it repaired. Thou I hope for him they'll change it to a newer (and feature-rich) device!
Greetings mates,
Typical thread...Bricked Herms 100
But, very untypical.
I was upgrading to accomplish somesh** n prevent bricking.
Don't really know what happened.
I had sspl before as well.
Now i do not see anything.
No LED when plugged for charging
No LED when plugged via USB...
Just dumb blank screen, literally!
Any ideas n thoughts or I lost my 24days young Herms?
Anothe question I have is will HTC peeps come to know by any chance I was playing with my phone... It is not responding for power or anything basically. :/
I am newbie cooker... cooked n flashed 56.4 custom grilled rom... was struck in boot mode... thus flashed "Pays_WWE_305_Final_Full"... worked fine... booted... N then i flash Hard-SPL with 100% success but the phone is dead.
Attached is what I flashed.
Regards,
Sam

In humans its the other way... lol, if you know what i mean....
good nite for me.....
You can't boot to bootloader, what about a HR?
And are you pressing the right buttons for bootloader, ok button, power button and reset with stylus. Hold in until tri-colour screen appears.
Just asking as some people try holding in the camera button instead, thats another mode that works on some Hermes but not all - I can't think what it is as I'm pretty damn tired and my brain is shutting down...
Cheers...

I hope when i get a new battery and plug it on my baby starts burning.
Anyways, good day!

I'd definately try the battery before playing around with the jtag method. Be a pain to accidently stuff up everything and find out a new battery would have fixed it...
Cheers...
bad thing is that it did not fix the issue.
I checked the whole market for JTAG cabels but not avail.
Thus building one using the method I saw on a site...
The link is below... this may help other users who yapp around to find the procedure. Senior members who already experimented with this methord to confirm if this would be ok stuff... .

Ok, a bit akward. I think i bricked my folio 100. I was working on upgrading to honycomb, i did some things wrong i think. Problem is now when i boot the screen stays black and only the power led goes on. Any idea where i shuld search to try and get it back to live?
if you can boot into fastboot you might be able to save your devise by pushing the revovery and rom to ur devise
I cant get into fastboot, i dont even get the toshiba logo.

Did you try to connect to fastboot? Maybe your screen is broken (or if you are lucky the screen connector is loose). Does it vibrate when you turn it on?
It is very improbable to brick this device by flashing something. At least I never heard of it. Only thing known to me to fully brick your folio is by pressing 4x Power and volume down on boot (don't try that...).
When i press the power button it does nothing, only the power led on the right turns green (white when on AC ).
Also, when i connect it to usb and do a fastboot devices i get no respons. Realy think i did something wrong and bricked it :S

did u try removing the battery?.. or maybe the reset pinhole at the back?.. who knows it might work..
I brick my Folio too, and now it don't have logo when power on.
I tried to get battery off and press the reset on the back, and nothing happened.
How to rescue a fully brick folio?

apologize for interfering & oftop, but certainly cant keep silence - "impossible to brick" - same i was told abt my dell streak device, but here I'm with bricked device on hands, where only ORT-JTAG can help :-(
it was bricked when PC hanged during rom flashing....so I guess every chance is possible :-(
Shidima_101 can you describe in detail before/during brick ?
Well, I'm not really sure what i did. And i think that is the problem. I was installing a new rom, and left it unattended. When I came back, something was wrong and I started messing with some options. Witch turned out to be wrong i guess
Tho I'm a little further now. When I connect the tablet I my pc recognizes its there a device, but I'm not sure I can get it working again. Tomorrow I have some time to look at it more.
Sader0 can you give me some info on ORT-JTAG? Do you know if its possible to do this on the Folio100 ? I don't mind opening up the tablet to get it back in to working order.
I'm in the same situation.
After the update to the last version, my folio apparently boot but the screen is blank. The backlight is on but nothing appears on the screen.
I'm able to go in Fastboot or in recovery mode, but formatting cache. system and reflashing different roms do not solve the issue
What I should do ?
SOLVED !

Ok, I have a small update. After trying a lot of different stuff, and nothing working, I decided to bring my tablet back to the store. First I tried to get them to switch my device for a new one, but that was a no go. So the device was returned to Toshiba for a check up and fix.
I was a little afraid that they would find out that i rooted and bricked my device, but today I got a letter telling me I can come pick it up and it was fixed free of charge
So tomorrow I'm going back to pick up my tablet
