I would very much like to use my MDA II for both personal as well as business phone-calls using a dual SIM adapter (one SIM on 1 network is for personal use, the other one on another network is for business use).
To achieve this I would like to hear any experiences on this subject, but most of all:
1. WHAT Dual-SIM adapter (apart from the ones where you have to cut the two SIMs to fit into 1 adapter that in its place fits into the SIM slot of the MDA II) fits into the MDA II / XDA II / QTek 2020 / iMate well???
2. HOW do I get the phone application (or any replacement) to display the appropiate operator logo (just like I could with my old nokia for 1 operator) instead of the operator name? I tried the registry setting explained somewhere on the forum for the XDA I, but that appears not to work on the II device.

For your XDA 2 it is more easy for an operator logo! Just make a gif file with as maximum 20 pixels high! Then name the file carrierlogo.gif and place it in your /windows folder and softreset!
Or buy Netphone Logo from Jgui
The carierlogo.gif 'trick' will only support 1 logo AND it needs a soft-reset.
I want to use multiple logo's (one per network my MDAII connects to). When the MDAII detects a new network, it should show the correct logo.
This is especially useful together with a dual SIM (most adaptors switch SIM after of/on of the phone (which of course can be done on the MDAII to go into and out-of flight mode . . .

Sorry, impossible for sure!
mmm, thats a pity.
The registry trick for XDA I seemed to be able to handle this . . .
That leaves me with the question WHAT type of Dual SIM adapter should fit into the MDAII.
In another thread I read about the "Ghost Type C Dual SIM"adapter, but I would like a cheaper 'ebay' alternative . . .

There's a XDA II hack but I can't get it to work, does anybody try this hack on XDA II? I don't know where to put it on my registry.... heres the link:
http://en.pdamobiz.com/en/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=80&PN=1
Hey Perry, thats the one I did try allready.
It was originally for the XDAI (but WM2003)
Maybe I made some mistake before. Also I have a new rom now.
I'll try again
In short:
1. Create a picture you want to use (it is claimed gif, jpg, bmp and png are valid formats, format must be max 20px(H) x 150px(w))
2. Create (if needed) a registry key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CarrierLogo
3. Create a string value
Name = Operator code, just the digits (lookup: http://www.mobilforum.hu/main/operator/operator.php or
http://www.techgsm.com/page/gsm-provider-codes/network-provider-identify-codes.html )
Value = path to the picture
4. Restart phone
BTW I found a dual sim: King of double card, type MAI-E (on ebay, less than 10euro)
No luck again. Seems that this simply does NOT work on my device.
BTW, what DOES work is to change the operator name shown:
You can customize the Operator names:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\OperatorNames]
Name = operatorcode
Value = Text Shown
Examples:
"20408"="NL KPN"
"20620"="BASE"
"20810"="SFR"
Of course this is only useful if you want the name shown to be different from the standard.

To "edsub" Thanks for trying! And for now I guess I will used the carrierlogo.gif trick that you posted above that works for me.. And maybe if I get tired of logo that I could used the hack that you mentioned on how to change Operator names.
Thanks mate!
Superperry: WHAT carrierlogo.gif trick are you referring to?
I know of one: copy a operatorlogo picture as carierlogo.gif in \windows.
But that does not work either with me . . .

"Carrierlogo.gif in \windows" the one you posted/suggested on very beggining, that works for me. Maybe you missed type the spelling of carrierlogo.gif? (just incase)
But this one trick "
You can customize the Operator names:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\RIL\OperatorNames]
Name = operatorcode
Value = Text Shown

doesn't wok for me when I tried it. I am using Resco registry editor and should I use "new string" on OperatorNames?
mmm, I must have been typing errors more than once. Indeed the carrielogo trick works with me too.
To change the operator-name shown you need to create (for every operator you want)
a "Value name" containing the operator-code (5 digits)
a "Value data" (string / REG_SZ) containing the name you want to display
see attachment for an export of my registry on this key

Because I use my MDAII with a dual sim adapter (King of double card type MAI-E, search eBay) I would like to know for sure which SIM is active at any moment.
When I am in my home country the Operator name show does the job, but when roaming that is not reliable anymore.
:idea: I would like to see some kind of (customisable?) string in the Phone application instead of the (roaming) Operator name that identifies the active SIM instead of the current operator..
What could be used is the first number that is stored in the SIM under "Own Numbers".
Does this exist :?:
Could it be built :?:
Hi
I recently purchased an O2 XDA IIi, which is unlocked from O2 and has been hard-reset to remove O2 features.
My SIM works as much that I can make/receive calls and send/receive text messages.
But, to access Internet, Email, MMS etc etc I need the settings for Orange (Ive tried http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=7306 but no luck).
Does anyone have the correct settings please ?
Is there a programme I can download (the type that is pre-installed onto Orange phones) as this may be the quickest solution.
I have tried Orange support on 3 occassions now and whilst they state they dont support non-orange phones they have tried to help - but without success.
Does anyone know if the hard-reset actaully leaves various O2 settings on the phone, which still need sorting.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GOOD !!
Thank You !!!
Paul

Hi mate,
Are you on PAYG or Contract?
If your on contract try this :wink:
Daz aka Cadburys Man.
Hi
Im on contract.
The other potential problem is that its an orange sim, orange contract BUT an EQ Virgin tariff (if that makes a difference)
Paul
Mate i can't see that making any difference what so-ever, if it's Orange contract it's Orange contract as far as i'm concerened, unless of course someone can say differently.
Daz.
Hi Daz
Thanks for that - but no luck with it.
Just to check I did things correctly.....
Downloaded it to desktop and bluetoothed it to PDA.
Found it in My Docs and clicked it to load it.
Was that correct procedure ?
Unfortunately, when I try to connect with it I get........
"No modem at above number. To check your connection settings and change them if needed tap settings"
Name = Orange Internet
Modem = Cellular Line (GPRS)
APN = orangeinternet
User = [blank]
Password = [blank]
TCP/IP = User server assigned IP address
Servers = Use server assigned addresses
Are the the settings that were downloaded ?
Thanks
Paul
Hmmmm thats wierd cos mine works and the settings are same as mine :?
I copied mine using the cradle through activesync but don't think that matters at all as the settings are the same.
Anyone else have a solution or tryed this file sucessfully?
Sorry i couldn't be of more help
Daz.
as i wrote in this post in the other forum then if it's set on auto pick of the o2 network profile it is bound to fail
Rudegar
There is NO mention of O2 anywhere on connections.
I ONLY have Orange Internet set up as described above.
Now.......
someone suggested looking at the External Rom ??
Ive managed to unlock this and need to know where and what I am looking to change ?
..Unless anyone has a full ext rom download i can use to overwrite what i already have ?
MANY MANY thanks
paul
As subject, just wondering if there any roms or ext roms that enable line 2 and allow you to switch between Line 1 and 2 on the same sim.

I believe that it isn't an issue with Rom Updates. I've used a few rom versions and always had the ability to make two calls at a time. Have U got this option enabled with you GSM provider??
The problem is not making two calls at the same time. I can do that. A few networks will allow you to have 2 different numbers on the 1 sim card. This will show up on the phone as Line 1 or Line 2. You can then switch between lines depending on which number you want to call from.

Aaah i thought we are talking about something else. I have a SIM card with this feature, but I have no need for second line so I don't use it, therefore do not know how it works on TyTN.
But I see as my network "Plus GSM Sluzbowa" which means "Plus GSM Business" and with my earlier SIM card without this feature it was only Plus GSM so therefore i think it probably supports it
UPDATE: just read a little about it, from what i've read it depends whether you have DUAL SUBSCRIPTION SIM CARD or not. It's not dependent on the hardware that you're using. Each subscription has its own PIN CODE and when you want to turn on specific subscription you just enter this pincode which is assigned to it. Also there might be an option to change it without turning off phone module but it must be provided by your operator (additional menu etc.)
Apparently here in the U.K Orange is the only network that offer Line 1 and Line 2. Unfortunately on there Windows Mobile phones this option is disabled so that you will only see Line 1
HTC originally made the Hermes to support Line 1/2 but there was a problem with it. In their own words...
The problem we have found is that all incoming calls come in on Line 1, and all outgoing on Line 2. We are aware of this and an upgrade should be available in the near future

This is the way that my 2G 64k sim worked, though not ideal I prefered it this way as that is how I used my phone. After upgrading to a 3G 128k sim only Line 1 could be used.
I went back to my 2G sim and my calls went from Line 2 UNTIL a sim update from Orange made the phone only see Line 1. Now I am waiting patiently for a ROM update to fix the issue once and for all!
Hi,
Since I sync my X01HT with my PC outlook,
the phone number is my contacts looks like:
+81 3 12345678.
If I dialed this one directly, I got an error voice message.
The SB cannot recognize "+" sign.
Should I use some software to change this number automatically to:
03 12345678?
By the way, I can use this number well in Taiwan or China.

i don't know if there is any software that can automatically do it for you but you can't dial + when you are making calls from japan and numbers need to be changed to the 03 12345678 format you mentioned. what i did is manually added those in each contact as an alternate phone number so that i can pick and choose the one appropriate depending on where i am.
Try dialing +81312345678 manually, then you will know if it is a problem with your contacts or a total incompatability with the network.

i said that doesn't work when you are calling from japan. you have to apply for the international calling service first if you want to make international calls, but even with that using + plus the country code doesn't work in japan.

Thank you harryk1372 for your suitable comments.
This is why I want to find some soft to change the "+" for me automatically.
One can use "+86" in the China Telecom network.
I tried "dialDTMF", but nothing happened.
I fight this since I am in Japan, but once again, one man against the Japanese bureaucratic world... Anyway things which drives me nuts is that while you have to dial 010 for call, SMS use the international dialing system with +
http://mb.softbank.jp/mb/en/global_service/international/message/sb3g/index.html
Now how hard can it be for Japan or SB use an international standard... like this dammed + ?
Or if they love so their uniqueness (their 010) why could not they simply tweak their system to accept both 010 and +

exactly... why the hell they need to use 010 for voice calls when they can accept + for sms. they should consider accepting + for voice as well.
Someone might like to take a look here.

I've been using the generic installation on my X01HT and it's the best work around I've found.
All my contacts from Outlook have full numbers including country codes with "+".
In the Country Code options I have a Japan International setting that adds 010 with the Convert + and remove - options checked.
When I select a Japanese contact, in Japan, I toggle the Int'l Access off to get no country codes.
For a Japan based International call I toggle the Int'l Access on (the country code appears) and then the Int'l Calling to select the Country code option to add 010.
It sounds more complicated than it is, but anyone who has had a call in, cursed they can't copy/paste a number and add 010 etc will find it a blessing.
There is no information on the author so take care, but I don't think it is doing anything malicious.
I upgraded to the "Shadow ROM My Edition" and each time I synchronize my mail in GPRS/EDGE, I get the message:
"You are currently roaming. Synchronization may result in addtional charges"
In fact, I AM NOT roaming, since I am in France and sync my mobile in France (with Orange).
Is there a parameter that I have to change so I do not get this message in France (of course, I should get it when I am abroad)?
Thanks for your help.
This happens when you are on a different network in france. I think you can disable it by adding other networks to the allowed list (Start->Settings->Phone->Network tab) then click the set networks button and select the allowed networks/add them to the list.

Hello,
I have the same problem than mazerolle, on the French Orange Network :
Afert a sim update, the celphone did not detect the orange network as the home network.
Is anyone can tell me where in the registry I can find the list of all the known netwoks (I presume that Orange F has changed his networkID and I would like to chache it in the registry for matching with te sim data).
regards
Olivier
I'm not sure about the registry, but to check (and change) the list, load the phone program, click the right soft key and select options (may be called something else if it's a french ROM) then go to the "network" tab. There should be a drop down menu that you can change the preferred network.

Good idea, but, Orange F is already in the list at the top position. That’s why I’m looking for the location of the preferred networks on registry. I think that the ID of Orange F is different in the SIM and in the HTC

Have you tried using HTC Network Wizard to set the settings up? It might also change the network orders...

i m not sure but maybe this reg setting helpful:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\RIL\OperatorNames]
"20801"="Orange F"
"20802"="Orange F"
add these 2 string values.
There are 2 network codes seen in the mobile network code list on wikipedia:
