XDA II Roms: Anymore l e a k s? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

There used to be a ton of unreleased roms for the XDA I when it was going through the WM2k3 upgrade; how come there arent so many for the XDA II? Just curious.

Seems like they don´t care any more, when there is money to be made on
XDA III instead... developing upgrades for XDA´s cost money.

A thought about the ICS "leak"

I'm not discrediting DG in any way, but does anyone think that these leaks for various Galaxy devices were put out by AT&T to the dev scene to find the bugs that aren't spotted in the internal test group.
Maybe we are THE test group, or at least a test group?
hopefully!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Actually thats exactly what i think...but its a good thing because the majority of the people on the boards are probably better than the shmucks they have to test with

I know if I was an OEM dev I would follow these forums and CM development pretty closely.
To spot bugs/wants and maybe snipe some talent.
What diff does it make.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
If that's what's happening then its a win win for everyone. The dev community is happy and att can save some cash and get better testing on a large user base.
sent from my iPhone killers killer, Samsung Galaxy Note.
I was thinking the samething yesterday. It has to be. Why wouldn't u the development in these forums are way better. We are pretty much R&D for them. It makes their job that much easier.

Also, anyone that bricks their phone in the process has voided their warranty, so there is no monetary loss on AT&T/Samsung's end.

so what?
We are the guinea pigs but Its ok because we got to taste ICS and its yummy!
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
Even if we are a 'test group' that at&t envisioned, and this ICS leak turns out to be basically flawless for most of us, I still wouldn't be surprised to see at&t take forever to do an OTA for this.
OP reads too much into it. Leaks like this is nothing new. We've got many leaks back in Captivate days. Some by Samfirmware.com, some by DesignGears and Some by Chainfire.
It's doesn't mean AT&T is using us to test drive it (imagine all the supporting cost involved if someone bricked the phone by un-successfully flashing the new firmware). It doesn't mean an official release is immenent either. I got Captivate GB leak installed on my Captivate back in Aug. 2011 and yet the offiical GB wasn't released until Feb. 2012.
Rememeber, all the leaks are full ROM. You are not going to keep your existing app and data. Official releases are always upgrades where you get to keep all your apps, settings and data. Such upgrades are never leaked out, only the full ROM.
The man has a source.. Not some random decision by ATT to just hand out beta builds. If it weren't for dg and his people we'd probably still be waiting months for ICS.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using XDA
Was going to say... I know that DG speaks the truth there. I dont think samsung is leaking this on purpose for us to test. These are real leaks
Just happy they are here.
I believe these "leaks" are done on purpose. They can only test these things in a lab or on test equipment so much. Companies like AT&T and Samsung need people like us using our phones in the real world for our day to day things to see how good they work. They then read these forums to see what people say about what does and does not work then take that to their labs to "fix". They may not participate in these forums but they do lurk here.

The number of Developers are decreasing :'( Will Luphorhirp ever return?

Guys... the development of our phones is coming to an end... we have less and less developers everyday and I don't think I'm good enough to develop anything decent my self.... we need to find people to develop and fast if the future of our phones is to be a bright one....
I agree with you... but I think maybe is time to other people (including us), learn some more and keep doing a nice job. Not as great as some developers I guess, but someone has to do the work. I know, its hard, but what we can do if not is change our phones
Awesome devs, don't leave us hehe.

This is just my two cents worth:
Take a look at the Android Development section. There are many budding developers with their themed roms oh, I mean heavily tweaked and modded roms out there. I'm not sure about the rest of you but I feel that this is simply wonderful. Its a good opportunity for beginners to learn more and serve the online community here. I'm sure in 5/10 years time down the road, some of us will look back and say "Hey the Optimus One was the Android phone that got me so interested into developing and look at much I've learned" or "It was my Optimus One phone that made me love Android".
So alright, our phone isn't considered a legacy device (yet, of course hopefully never) so hang on in there I love my O1!
Sent from my LG-P500 using xda premium
Well...I think the developers are enough to build an stable version of ics.For GB,we already have Oxygen which is amazing..or neko's rom if you like some changed graphics. If we'll have stable ICS...I don't think we can request something else from them.Even like this,I'm happy with Oxygen.
The thing is that o1 gets older and older, and resources are very limited.600 mhz...just saying.
The developers will upgrade to better phones.
This phone...I think it was it the top when it comes to developrs support. It was a cheap phone with good performances at that time. Now games, versions of android, apps, all request more resources and in time this phone won't be able to offer enough.
Probably this phone was a challenge for most of developers. We wouldn't have so many roms if this would have...a 1.4 ghz / dual core processor and this stuff.
Don't worry my friends,in time we'll upgrade our phones too.And for most of us,this phone was "first love" ...and you know what they say,you will never forget your "first love"

you realize that this phone is 2 years old and most developers have switched to nexus devices.
you realize this will never have an official update ever again
you realize this has an armv6 processor
you realize that we have reached a "glass ceiling" for now maybe quallcomm will be nice or someone comes up with a workaround or we can get a leak
you realize that this phone has no official flash support
you realize that we have an HVGA display
thats why so many devs are leaving and or moving to another phone IE. Nexus
so many devs went to the nexus, franco, milk, bok, dax\
im new here

I'd really like to change my Optimus One for a better phone but I really can't spend lot of money for a phone. Android 4 is beautiful but set a LOT of devices apart. Now Android looks like something for the few. I still have to understand what should I do with a dual/quad core phone: my Optimus One is old, armv6, 600mhz but I can still use it with Lightbox, Twitter, FB, G+, gstrings, Maps, Endomondo and a lot of apps with no much lags (and I didn't overlock). I hope Tizen or especially Boot 2 Gecko will be good enough to revive not-so-incredibly-old phones like ours. Android is fantastic but it's going too fast.

Although service centres r irritating ones nd ppl der r dumb, bt xperia phones have caliber of dng everything a smartphone can do, example take galaxy s2 it has much better processor then neo v but its stl on ics that also 4.0.3. I guess it was a high end phone. samsung updates only its new flagships asap by d tym u buy note 2 , note 3 will b in market or s4.. Then ur note 2 will stay on jb no longer updates if dey come they ll come rarely. Nd ace plus same processor like neo v and samsung promises jb for it. I wonder hw it ll support jb..

Okk...if you guys say so...i will think about it.
Actually the thing is...updates to a newer android version don't matter if your hardware can't handle it good...what matters is the current firmware should be so refined to exploit the phone's resources at its best...what's the point of adding new features when the basic functionality is suffering.
In our case...our device lacks ram and is single cored...let's put aside the core thing...it simply struggles for ram in ICS and JB. And whatever hardwork teams like cyanogenmod may put into it...they can't provide full functionality that OEM provides...so in my opinion...maintainance updates are much significant...as they bring to you a better phone...not just a new interface with crippled functionality.
You may add various tweaks and improve the firmware to your liking...but the overall experience will not be as the OEM intended to be.
The precis is...even if a manufacturer doesn't update to the latest android version...it provides maintainance updates which are crucial...and samsung does it...and besides the updates...its phones are already loaded with functionality...and a phone with quad-core cpu and 2gb ram is more than sufficient unless one intends to carry a PC in his pocket...which is always thethered to the power outlet.
And the complains about exynos...they have been acknowledged by samsung.
And those who say Sony has ditched 2011 devices...sony has already supported us for long to the extent our devices can handle...it gave us ICS despite the limited resources our device has. And being a global company...it too has to survive. It has to concentrate on the competition. Accusing it of abandoning us is totally unfair. There was no lifetime commitment sony had signed with you...you bought the device and sony supported it as long as the device needed it.
Dont think of me as an advocate for sony...i am simply pointing to the fact that whatever firmware is on the phone...it should be perfect in utilizing phone's resources...not a burden on the phone's head.
Pheeewwwww..........sorry...too long a debate.
These are only my views...those who differ in opinion...simply ignore.

Thanks mate...i have already read your thread...and before that i have tried swap on system of about 150mb...multitasking becomes awsome but whatever media you use for swap...be it SDcard/nand...its life degrades eventually.
And i am not that well off to replace my card every 4months...and not to mention the terrible performance hit when the trade over takes place.
Thats why zram is better.
And i think any ram size below 1gb is inadequate for android 4+.
We have cast away from the thread's topic...my apologies guys...continue the original topic.

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie

Android 5.0 beta is starting to gettin out. Who would like to have it on cooper too? For people that dont know is name: Android KeyLime Pie (Dont know acronim but think will be KP). For our Ace and many other phones KP only will reach us by CyanogenMod 11 (because according to rumors and a quite of logic letter K is 11th on alphabeth).
Xpectating OldDroid or Bieltv.3 start working on it too.

Android 5.0 key lime pie is predicted to arrive by this October to a new nexus device ( they say Google's next nexus will be in cohesion with the Motorola ). Anyways, it's all prediction. You'll never know anything until it's actually released ! What if android gets cloud backup as icloud in Apple ? Backup all your game data, music, pictures, etc and restore things back on new firmware...! Anytime, anywhere ! But for time being, just dream of it running smooth on ace, be satisfied with 4.2 ! Sad to see pioneers like wayland stop development Can anyone else make it ?! Who knows....?!

Thats assuming it can work on our device, ACE is already under a big strain running ICS/JB, if the new android is as much a jump as ICS was from GB, we might not actually be able to see it on our phones ever.

But they still got ics running on ace, didn't they ?! You can never predict what's coming next on the ace forums As far as I'm concerned, our ace forum is one of the busiest ( may be the busiest ! ) and the most active forum ! Our developers are not really developers, they are rock stars !!! Anyways, are developments for nexus 4 and galaxy s2 better than that for ace ? I think these are the only 2 phones that may surpass the magnitude of development in ace.

I agree, those guys are rockstars, nexus 4 and S2 forums devs don't exactly get such challenging jobs because they already have a good enough hardware available, but given the hardware limitations in our phone, its really amazing what our developers have achieved so far.
But still, it was a pretty big jump on hardware requirement when they released ICS, if its the same with Key lime pie, its possible that its requirements would really be out of our reach. Its a 2 year old model after all, and with the rate the technology is evolving, our phone is pretty close to being called ancient.
