Take out SIM. Go to bootloader (hold power while soft-resetting), then press calendar button after "WAIT" disappears. Select GSM 900/1800. Insert SIM again (close cover well). soft-reset.
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately "I receive GSM turn ON fail !!"
No matter which option I select...
When I go into Device information, there is no info regarding Radio version or protocol - used to be info there before...
The last thing I did before this happened was making a call, and the next thing when I picked it up there is no phone any longer...
SO, what would next step be? Can I reload the phone software somehow?
I have the exact same problem
NO RADIO
TRIED TO BOOTLOADER AND GET A GSM ERROR
I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED.
HELP, WHO CAN FIX THIS?
THANKS,
FERNANDO
Problem Solved!
Dont ask how - but the phone went completely out of charge as I left it for dead a few days.
When I plugged the charger in, just to check my calender, it started to charge and Radio was back again...
Amazing product...
Well, I guess you got lucky!!! I am happy for you. So you left it for dead:
a) how many days?
b) sim card in or out?
Thanks,
Fernando
There was a sim card in
I think about two days.
(The Qtek was turning on/off itself, blinking with backgroud light now and then until it went completely dead. I of course lost all data etc. bit thats OK
Why not try to remove the battery in the unit? To really reset it...
Hi:
I did it. Cracked it open, took the battery out. Put it all back together, and still have the same problem. This is a tough one to solve.
Any other ideas?

Radio crashes

Hi
I have a problem with gsm in my hermes. It happens very often, that wake it up from standby mode, and it connects with GSM, and it turns out that the radio has been turned off for 4 hours and people could not phone me. I had radio 1.50.00.00, flashed it to 1.56.70.11 and there's still the same problem. Please help and sorry for my imperfect english.
EDIT:
I was quite sure i was writing it in Hermes forum, not Hermes accessories. Please move.

Weird GSM problem: cannot register on the network

Suddenly this morning my GSM died. No, it actually didn't die. When I go to phone settings/network and choose manual, it searches and finds all networks in my region, but then I choose the network my SIM belongs to and the phone says it cannot register on the network. I tried flashing a new radio, stripped ATT radio, new ROM etc. always the same problem. By the way the green flashing led is not working as well. When the phone initially boots, the GSM version is displayed correctly.
So, did anybody had a similar problem before?
somehow it is working back now after over 36 hours of death. I left it in airplane mode through the night and replaced the battery before going to sleep (I had a spare). Now it is functional. I don't know what the problem was, but may be the battery. I will try it with the other battery later and let you know.

Hermes radio fried/bricked?

Hi. I've been using my hermes for a while now and playing with different upgrades without ever having a problem. I've never tried to use mobile internet (GPRS/3G/EDGE) before though. I started trying recently when my ISP became so bad i could barely load a webpage.
No matter what i do the hermes wont even attempt to connect. (I used my electic guitar pickups to detect the radio bleeps. I get them when making a call but not when attempting gprs).
Here is a rough outline of the roms i remember trying:
Schaps 4.30 (with whatever radio it came with)
CRCs 13.4 (with the radio it came with and with 1.48 radio to try and get connected)
Orange UK rom (SPV_M3100_ROMUpdate_0407), radio 1.38
(all with Hard-SPL-2.10 installed)
I'm on Orange UK, and I've even tried downgrading to the latest orange rom (the one with 1.38 radio). Still no joy. I bought the one day access to orange world thing (about 4 times :O), and tried connecting using orange internet and orange wap connections.
Is my radio forever fried/bricked for some reason? Any help would be appreciated, as I dont fancy trying to get my old imate sp5 to connect to the net . Looks like I might be forking out for a new phone
PS. Wifi internet works fine, as do voice calls.
Did you check the MMS/WAP settings as these are lost when loading a new rom. Either run the carrier configurator (if included in the ROM) or get the settings from your provider and do it manually...
Thanks for the reply ultramag. I tried the configurator when I had the CRC 13.4 rom installed. It seemed to set up the settings for wap the same as on oranges configuration site. I assumed that my phone must be being blocked for not being an orange rom or the radio version was incompatible. I then tried radio version 1.48 as i read somewhere that this worked with orange uk. Then i tried installing the orange full phone rom including orange version of wm5 and the orange radio rom 1.38. I suspect this could be a physical hardware fault as i have opened up the phone before to fix the earphone speaker and camera.
I wonder is the voice call chip separate from the one that does GPRS? or is it a one chip deal?
Also, it is a very old sim card. Could this contribute in any way?
mmm if its an old sim card it probably cant do 3g but gprs should work.
perhaps your current radio rom does not support data somehow? or you havent got all your settings configured properly... its all i can think of...
I tried a vodafone payg sim card from someone elses phone, and it came up with a 3G symbol on the start bar at the top. I couldnt connect however, but according to the vodafone website you dont have to explicitly pay to get to the www.live.vodafone.com site? Or am I wrong?
Getting the 3G symbol with vodafone suggests I might be getting close to a solution here. Also connecting and disconnecting the 3g box on comm manager caused radio bleeps which suggests it is capable of 3g. Looks like my beef is with orange/vodafone and not the Hermes. Typical!
Thanks for all your help guys. I'll post if it ever works.
try your carriers website for gprs specific settings =) i know i had to edit my settings before mine would work..
Problem solved
I've finally sold this problem. It was the SIM card and nothing to do with the phone. I never managed to get through to Orange tech support because theyre useless (last time i phoned they said their tech support systems would be down for 5 hours).
A friend had an Orange SIM and I tried MMS (which uses GPRS) with his SIM in the Hermes and it worked fine. I then tried it with my SIM and it failed as usual. Sorry for wasting peoples time with this.
P.S. Orange sucks. I will be switching service ASAP.

[Q] Does Airplane Mode actually turn off the cell radio?

When you put the phone into Airplane Mode, does the cell radio actually get turned off, or just to a low power state that still broadcasts to towers?
Is anyone able to answer the question? Or does everyone at XDA secretly work for the NSA?
Yes, the radio is turned off. You can confirm this in the dialer menu->phone info.
Sent From Capsule Corp.
I mean I guess the reason I ask this question is because the radio firmware on most if not all phones is closed source, and hence we don't really know what it does when you tell it to turn off. Is there ever such a thing as an open modem for GSM?
In regular Linux, some WiFi radios have fully open source drivers.
