I'm in Melbourne and using Telstra.
My XDA
ROM ver 3.14.17 ENG
ROM date 10/11/02
Radio version 4.16
Protocol version 32S54
My problems are:
1.weak signal
2.phone hangs and wont automatically reconnect to network until I switch it off and back on.
Is that only my bad lack or others have similar problems?
Is there a possibility of improving this by change of settings or...?
Any comments appreciated :?:
MY XDA Freezes and Drops Calls
Hello, I am in Ireland. My Phone Hangs and Drops every now and then. It Releases itself after about 5 minutes. Sometimes I answer a call and it drops the line at this stage. I went into an o2 shop to ask them about this but they suggested that there is no other customers with this problem.
the same problem with ROM 3.15.15 ENG / Radio 4.16.00
I have the same hang up problem. I bought mine in Australia as well but use it all around the world, for that matter i have never used it in Australia but i have the hang up problem sometimes. Never the weak signal though. Maybe i am just lucky.
Exactly the same problem with xda bought in HK and used in Russia. And as i note this problem occurs while other mobile phone near xda shows "good" signal level. So I have to restart phone each hour
3.15.15 ENG / 4.16.00
I'm ready to write program which will switch phone module off and on hourly

Same problem in SG. 3.14.17ENG with 4.16 Radio stack. Took my XDA to the service center and they upgraded the radio stack to 4.17... Seems like improved so far but not sure if this is a complete resolution yet. Have not seen this radio stack released on the internet yet.
I have the same problem - I seem to be getting a good signal, and all of a sudden the audio just clicks off totally, while the connection time is still ticking over. I've installed the new official patches which seemed to slightly improve things, but the problem still occurs. It'd be nice if someone could resolve this, I've got no idea.
Hi all,
Have the same problem here in Saudi Arabia if the signal gets week at some spot it will not come back only after a reset..
Hello folks,
I have a QTEK 1010 bought from Dubai in October 2003.
Model PW10A1
ROM version 3.16.52 ENG
ROM Date 03/10/03
Radio version 3.19.01
Protocol version 32S54
The device works well but periodically goes off (PDA and cell phone) and pressing the power button at this point soft resets it. I have tried removing add on software (D9 dialer and SMS name utility), soft resetting and hard resetting.
A hard reset seemed to solve the problem - until I synched with Outlook again - but then maybe I did not wait long enough since even after synching and software being loaded, it does fine for hours at a stretch. It is my impression that an incoming or missed call causes it to do that but since it happens inconsistently, I cannot tell.
My questions: -
Is this more likely to be solved by a ROM upgrade or a Radio upgrade? Or is this likely to be a hardware issue? A friend and I bought two devices together but his ROM and radio versions are higher numbers. He does not have this problem but then his cellular provider is different.

Hi,
please don't be annoyed that I bring up this topic again but I really don't know what to try anymore.
I have a XDA with
ROM-Version 3.14.16 GER
Radio-Version 4.21 (upgraded recently from 4.16)
My telephone network provider is tele.ring in Austria.
and my phone hangs up every hour or so, sometimes more often. Either the connection bar on the top showing the connection strength will drop to 0 and it says "no signal" or everyting seems to be okay, signal strength is there but I can't make calls. Basically the same thing as in posting http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=455 where noone answered
I tried the following to solve this problem:
1. Got Phone Today from Burr Oaks Software because that lets you change the refresh rate, that is how often your Phone connects to the Network
2. Upgraded from Radio-Version 4.16 to 4.21.
3. Got a new simcard.
Nothing helped, now I am a bit desperate because a cell phone doesn't make a lot of sense if you can't be reached. Can anyone, ANYONE please help me here and give me a hint how to make the phone working ?
Thank you very much,
ABertl

Take out SIM. Go to bootloader (hold power while soft-resetting), then press calendar button after "WAIT" disappears. Select GSM 900/1800. Insert SIM again (close cover well). soft-reset.
Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately "I receive GSM turn ON fail !!"
No matter which option I select...
When I go into Device information, there is no info regarding Radio version or protocol - used to be info there before...
The last thing I did before this happened was making a call, and the next thing when I picked it up there is no phone any longer...
SO, what would next step be? Can I reload the phone software somehow?
I have the exact same problem
NO RADIO
TRIED TO BOOTLOADER AND GET A GSM ERROR
I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS HAPPENED.
HELP, WHO CAN FIX THIS?
THANKS,
FERNANDO
Problem Solved!
Dont ask how - but the phone went completely out of charge as I left it for dead a few days.
When I plugged the charger in, just to check my calender, it started to charge and Radio was back again...
Amazing product...
Well, I guess you got lucky!!! I am happy for you. So you left it for dead:
a) how many days?
b) sim card in or out?
Thanks,
Fernando
There was a sim card in
I think about two days.
(The Qtek was turning on/off itself, blinking with backgroud light now and then until it went completely dead. I of course lost all data etc. bit thats OK
Why not try to remove the battery in the unit? To really reset it...
Hi:
I did it. Cracked it open, took the battery out. Put it all back together, and still have the same problem. This is a tough one to solve.
Any other ideas?
Fernando
Hi every one,
i've got my hermes radio to 1.54.30.10 month ago. and i've just seen a Seniour member started a thread warning that the 1.54 series are unstable....
i haven't met any problems till now.. i wanna know if it's possible for me to downgrade my radio to 1.47 or 1.38?
I'm no expert, but I went from 1.54.30.10 to the official 1.54.07.00. Never tried going lower.
I just downgraded to 1.43 due to problems with 1.54.30.10 - start loosing signal recently

Yes, u can down grade to a lower radio version, it's done quite often (assuming u have hardspl).
Thanks a lot~
I'll downgrade my Radio as soon as I finished this semester~
By the way...
Are there any serious problem( known as bricked your Hermes) if i continue to using this 1.54.30.10 Radio?
i mean if it necessary for me to downgrade my Radio?
No hard evidence, but 1.5+ radios are suspected for causing problems - read details HERE and HERE
I start experiencing problems similar to described in the above threads, so just downgareded to 1.43
Cheers
not having any major issues with this radio ROM, been on the radio for more or less 3 weeks (touch wood! ) .. am on Celcom Malaysia 3G (UMTS 2100)
Similar problems here. Downgraded, but it may be too late, had numerous connection problems and slow 3G on tmobile.
Forget radio 1.54.xxxxx
From my experience - flashing radio 1.54 can brick your phone , lost CID and sspl .

Bad plan get rid of it now.
Use this one: ftp://xda:[email protected]/HERM_Radio_Only_1.48.00.10_CustomRUU.rar
it's not worth the risk of waiting.... you've been lucky so far. Current thought is that the 1.5x series ROMs drive the radio chip too hard and it overheats to extinction. First signs are drops and erratic radio performance. If you wait until you already got it you prob waited too long. But if you do get those symptoms before you reflash, then pull the battery immediately and (OK this might sound weird but it worked for a friend of mine) put the phone & the battery in a zip lock baggy and put it in the freezer while you get that radio rom I pointed at above ready.
When ready, put it back together and immediately flash the Radio with the 1.48 version. After it resets and does it's business.... reflash the 1.48 again.
Hopefully you will never see the problem again, if that didn't work then you may as well try calling your provider to see if they will replace the phone.
I've downgraded my radio to 1.48 about 1 month ago..
i'll show my grateful to u, thanks a lot!
radio 1.54.30.10 is working perfect on Orange Israel ,Kiyevstar Ukrain, MTC Moscow , and other Europe countries that i visited , this radio is the best i tried

So far so good .. nothing bad happen yet .. notice that my CELCOM 3G signal getting better ...
Same here, I have a better signal and connects to 3G faster than AT&T's radio 1.54.07.00, and I am on the AT&T Network
just to add to the the list of "satisfied customers" ..no problem whatsoever with my provider (UMTS 2100/GSM 900+1800)..
best downgrade and how to obtain it
I'm also experiencing similar problems. I have been running 1.54.07.00 for about 3 months and steadily experiencing more drop-outs on the phone service. I've ready different treads and some people have downgraded to 1.48 and other to 1.43. Is either one a better choice? And, sorry to ask a basic question, but where to I download the downgrade. I searched, but to no avail.
Hermes 100
Rom Version 3.62.502.3
Rom date 10/11/2007 (Oct 11)
Radio version: 154.07.00
I've been using this Radio on my Vario II since it showed up here (2 months maybe) and nothing happened. Signal strength is still the same. For me personally it's the best Radio I've been using so far. I'd be a pity having to downgrade now...

I've had the 'false roaming' icon on for a few weeks now in addition to a 'no signal' scare for a few hours. I'm thinking of just downgrading to the 1.43 radio that originally shipped with the WM5 AT&T ROM.
First off, I bought this phone online from a guy in Mississippi, but I live in the East Texas area...The radio stack was 1.54.07 when I started with it. I SIM/CID unlocked it fine, but it downgraded the radio to 1.16.00. I reflashed the radio to 1.54.07 as it was before, but has a issue...all calls have static in the background. Not terribly bad, but very annoying.
Anyone have any idea what radio stack would be best for my area?
Thanks,
GunRunner
Not a definitive answer to that im afraid, try out a few different radios and see how you get on. Do make sure your device has HardSPL installed and that you dont interrupt the flashing process.
Well...I re-flashed it to 1.54.00.10, and so far, it looks good...no static in the background...and no loss of signal strength...
GunRunner
Sweet.. Now you've found a radio you like, STICK WITH IT... The radio rom is the most likely thing to cause a permanent brick when flashing. If it is interrupted while flashing this then you tend to get a corrupted area of memory that CAN'T BE FIXED. You can flash an OS only rom but you won't be able to call or receive calls on your Hermes ever again....
Welcome, and have fun....
Cheers...
