Have you tried read the manual or a little bit of this forum?
Hard reset will be done by sticking twice time in the little hole down under the earphone connector....

I have actually searched for a good two hours, and came up with how to reset a II but not a I. Although, I did learn a whole lot of other stuff, including answers to other questions I had. There was just too many pieces of straw to find the needle, I was tired, running out of smokes, and getting a head ache, so I posted this and went off to sleep.
Thanks for the quick answer

HELP! HELP! Stuck between ROMs after trying to upgrade!

Anybody out there know how to fix this?
All I have is a black screen giving a USB version. Won't connect to or be recognized by ActiveSync.
it's still ok given that the usb is shown. just cradle back the unit and restart the upgrade. don't expect activesync to "recognize" your device. just hit the upgrade exe file and it should proceed. this happened to me once when i upgraded to 2005.
THANKS VERY MUCH, I'm going to try that, I'll report back my success (hope)
You Are Fantastik, Thanks! Thanks! and Thanks!
Now let me ask you, this happen to you when you were updating to Windows Mobile 5? If so I too am looking to upgrade to WM5 just thought I should get O2's final update before doing WM5. Seen WM5 (for Xda IIs)for sale on ebay for about $16 to download, with all instructions.
Do you have any suggestions or advice, I'm feeling pretty brave now.
THANKS
yes this happened to me when i decided to upgrade to wm2005. what happened was the instructions said that i should first do a reset before proceeding with the upgrade (not sure if it was a soft or hard reset). anyway, i forgot to do this and went straight away to the upgrade. after a couple of minutes the upgrade screen (on my laptop) said something like "device error"...of which the screen on my xda said "usb version-something"...with a dark background (i think this is the one you experienced). anyway, i did a couple of resets (even a hard reset) and my screen was stuck with the same info. i believe this is called bootloader mode. i remember reading the instructions that if this happened i simply cradle back the unit and hit the upgrade command on my pc. it worked!
for you, i'm not as familiar with upgrading an xda2s. but in my opinion, as long as you can get your unit to bootloader mode you are still fine. in fact i do remember reading a couple of posts that some chaps had a completely blank screen. they said that they kept on doing hard resets until the unit went back to bootloader. true enough, a buddy of mine upgraded to 2005 and his screen went blank. he did something like 10 or so hard resets and he was able to get it to bootloader mode. from there he proceeded with the upgrade and he succeeded.
hope that helps and good luck
Oh, I should have said, your suggestion worked. I put it back in the cradle and restarted the ROM upgrade and it worked perfectly. I just thought that since ActiveSync was not recognizing it, it was Broke.
Thanks, now weather to temp faith again and try to upgrade from 2003 se to WM5. Did you find WM5 to be a big improvement over 2003se?
nice to know it worked. wm2005 is fantastic in all aspects. the only con i found was that one of my apps was not working due to not being compatible. i use animated today (animation of my baby girl rocking back and forth on her rocker), when i upgraded i couldn't get it to work anymore. however; i wrote to the app developer and he said they're working on an upgrade to make it compatible with 2005. so it's not really a con...more of just waiting until the release is out for the upgraded software. so in your case, there might be some apps which may not work properly (or not work at all) due to it being incompatible. there's a thread somewhere in this forum listing the proven apps that work well with wm2005.
a LOT of people complained about the memory issue when they upgraded to 2005...myself included. however the fixes came out (ramdisc, doc tools, etc) and from there everything worked out fine. for you, when you do upgrade to wm2005 just make sure you follow every bit of tip and instructions so as to make the transition and experience worth it. i read a lot from the forum (as well as buzz's website); a lot of chaps didn't do this and they ended up downgrading to 2003se.
other than that, a lot of my favorite apps work well with wm2005. i still have this app i used 2 years ago (today plug-in) and it works with 2005.
cheers
Sounds pretty cool, watching your daughter rocking when ever you want. What is buzz's website?
buzz was the one who enabled wm2005 to be ported to the xda2. the website is:

TONS of info and resources in there.
cheers
Thanks for all your help, I'll check out buzz's website.

Hard Reset?

Hey guys, trying to hard reset my 8525 and I'm following the directions on the Wiki, with no success.
With the device turned off I'm holding the left, right soft keys and the reset button. Once I push the reset button, my 8525 turns on like normal. What am I doing wrong?
hold down the reset button longer
edit: +2 n00b points for referencing the wiki. keep it up!

Nyditot Virtual Display?

Has anyone tried Nyditot Virtual Display on the Athena with WM6 yet? I'm asking because I can't be without my device the next 2-4 days and don't have the time to restore if it gets messed up.
Let me know if you had any problems if you tested this software on your athena and thanks.
I tried it, it didn't work, every change required a program activated reset, which didn't work, so i had to use the soft reset button, which obviously cleared the changes, so nothing happened

Thanks. The product promises a lot but I guess the developer hasn't really done testing on many devices. I've been trying this program for years and never got it to work properly myself. I even had to hard reset a few times because of it. Didn't feel like going through this without asking for experiences.
Maybe I should email the developer and tell him he should join this forum and get people to test his software on multiple devices to make it better, or at least get it to work. The features promise a lot and it looks like a great product but it just doesn't work well.
Agreed on all counts, the Nyditot web site links to a forum though
BTW I initially thought it was pronounced 'Any Idiot'
I also never got this to work, even had to do a hard reset once
I wish they would update their program. Looks like a very nice utility...if it worked.

Password Reset in WM6

Is there a way to reset the startu-up (boot) password in WM6? Please avice.
hmmmm...... maybe the other guys have some better idea

It is mine. The password got changed by itself. I know the password very well. This is the second time happpend with me with this HTC WM6 Rom.
windows mobile protection system is a ****.
It's true, the password change it self.
Just use a 3dparty program for password protection...
I have performed the hard reset and then full system restore thru SPB Backups 2. Thank you all for your great support and help.
It happened to my once, I contacted HTC and they told my only way it was a hard reset, hence I do not use windows password protection anymore
No surprise here,as always Microsoft security features=piece of crap, really....
really, that has never happened to me before
At the time I had a Hermes, no matter how many times tried the password no joy (and it was a simple numerical one)
I've just been caught as well on WM6.5 Its still no better!
6.1 Hosed up Too
I just got back from vacation yesterday. The phone worked fine until this morning. Somehow the password changed and I cannot get in. This sucks! I will lose all of my vacation photos (on internal memory) if I do a hard reset. The good news: I did a back up prior to going on vacation, so I won't lose everything. I, however, really hate to lose two weeks of photos. Any suggestions on how to retrieve my data?
Thanks for your um, silence. I did a hard reset, but skipped the flash drive reformat. This reset the main memory to factory settings, but did not delete any of the files on the flash disk. I saved all of my photos, spreadsheets, and other data from the vacation. I restored the August 13th backup, but only the main memory files and lost very little.
This was a scary experience for two reasons: 1) I almost lost a ton of data, 2) I got it all back without needing a password. I thought that data on the flash disk was secure, but I was soooo wrong. All 16Gb are as secure as what is on the MicroSD card. If someone stole my device and performed the same operation they would have had lots of embarrassing photos of me at a bacchelor party and wearing a Spedo (or less) on the beach. I guess this is something I need to keep in mind in the future. I don't need these photos popping up when I run for president.
That is why you should never wear speedo's and make pictures when you wear even less...

Orange SPV M1000

Hi everyone,
I need some pointers. My dad gave me his used Orange SPV M1000, that he used to use for work. He now has a new one and this one is obsolete.
The thing is, it seems to have his companie's old software engraved and I can't seem to wipe it from memory. I have tried a software reset and a hard reset. I have also let the battery completely die out. Nothing works. The camera is also blocked and doesn't work. How can I get around this? Can anyone help me out?
Do I have to unprotect the extended rom? Will that be enough? And if so, how is the easiest way to do so?
I'd very much appreciate your help, either here in the forum or via email ([email protected]).
Many thanks,
Cris
i'd say yes
