XDA II GPS/Charger Connector use on XDA - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I am looking at upgrading my GPS system to a PocketMap system using an Arkon Powered Multimedia Windshield Mount Kit w/Built-In GPS using Xtrac V2.0 Ultra-Sensitive Firmware. Does anyone know if 1) the plug into the bottom of the Siemens SX56 is the same as on a XDAII and 2) do I need to do anything to my Siemens SX56 software, rom, firmware, etc. to use the program? I'm not real knowledgeable about this stuff and the unit that is being sold is listed as compatible with an XDAII phone. Here is a link to the web page. http://www.pocketmapstore.com/pomuwimokitw.html
Thanks for your help guys/gals.
Stacey

I think most of the pda's mentioned are xscale processors which is the later arm chip. I would check with seller first. I have the same arkon mount and the noise from the speaker as a result of rf breakthrough from the radio on xda and xda 2 is unbearable, I dont know if mine is faulty or maybe they changed the design.

I sent them an e-mail, but no response and unfortunately I don't have enough knowledge of this area to understand your response. Other than the noise issue you are having, are you saying that it will probably or probably not work?

GPS on the XDA?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any tutorials/read-ups available for setting up GPS for the XDA?
I'm aware of the software available ( Tom Tom etc) but am unsure if I need further equipment/cables etc.
I don't want to hook up to the car, just to be used handheld as I roam the streets! (Errrrrr....!)
Thanks for any info, in advance.
Midi :?
(UK, XDA I)
http://www.tomtom.com/products/products.php?ID=31&Language=1
this tomtom2 support xda and comes with anything maybe apart from all maps
deleted
well it will when tomtom make their new software update
and i think he's talking about xda1
and the link i gave is not for the bluetooth version
You might it find it very ungainly, the xda needs a cable device which also needs power, so I think you need to look for a different solution unless you are willing to carry the gps, cable, power source, xda etc. For in car it is fine, any questions about gps with xda I will do my best to answer.

xda ii & Golf Mk5 Phone prep kit ?

Hi all
This is my first post here so hope it's in the right place
I'm a longtime XDA and then XDA II user but one thing i've never got properly sorted is the in car thing.
I'm looking at buying a new mk5 Golf and they do a two part phone prep kit for it. One for the 'car' and then another for which ever standard ish phone you have.
Now of cousrse they don't do an XDAII version
I was wondering if I got the 'car' bit whether the XDA II could be hooked up to it ? with a bit of soldering etc ?
Not sure how much control I could have over the phone beyond sound through speakers/answer call etc ?
Does the XDAII edge connector have many inputs/outpust for controlling the phone ??
Thanks in advance

What's required for Sat Nav?

Hi guys,
Excuse my ignorance, but what do I need to use my XDA 11s as an sat-nat device. I have Tom-Tom software and niavely thought that was enough, however when I run the program it says "No GPS Device".
Also does anyone know where I can buy a replacement pen, I bought my device 2nd hand and the pen that came with is not the original and so it does not fit in the slot snug.
Many thanks in advance!

You need a physical GPS receiver, you can find inexpensive bluetooth receivers all over the internet and possibly in local shops. Search google for "BT-GPS" and you should get alot of replies

Another great opportunity for google, I searched "i-mate+pda2k+stylus" and got 15,700 replies, here is a random site:
http://www.mphone.co.uk/acatalog/pda2k-stylus.html
beside new BT GPS you can also use old gps devices from the qteks 1010 and 2020 (mine is from the 1010)
you can obtain stylus from an ebay.
I think you will find that the stylus is not snug because the plastic clip inside the case is broken. Buying a new stylus willl not fix this problem. There are instructions somewhere on this site on how to fix this problem
A good GPS is the "Holux GPSlim 236" provides excellent reception and is able to be found on ebay.

Torque - Anyone use it?

I was curious if any on here have used this app? I love the developer (have his SpeedHUD app)..... If anyone can does use it, I would love your opinion. I am hesitant to spend much on a bluetooth OBD tool. I think the one he recommends is around $100.
here is a link to his site for those interested: Torque
Here is a description (from his site linked above) also:
Torque is an engine diagnostics application for Android that allows you to directly monitor your car engine control unit (ECU) and retrieve various information from the sensors connected to it as well as use your phones internal GPS and accelerometer sensors to graph other information such as acceleration
Torque can be used to view any stored fault codes on your vehicles ECU, then, after a mechanic fixing the fault, it also can clear the fault codes allowing you to clear the ‘Check Engine’ light warning on your dashboard
Torque can use a multitude of OBD adapters, ranging from the cheap (and slightly buggy) adapters you can find on ebay, to the more reliable PLX Devices Kiwi Bluetooth and OBDKey which are the amongst the best.
That's pretty damn cool... I'm not a car enthusiast, but even so I kind of want to get one of those BT adapters and try it out
^ yeah, same boat. I have a bad gas cap so my check engine light is CONSTANTLY on. Now I just ignore it because "I KNOW" that's the cause... heaven forbid something else be wrong with my car and I've just ignored it. Would be especially nice since this app also lets you CLEAR THE CODE (no more check engine light).
Really need to find a good/cheap BT adapter that will work with this app!!!
I'm interested in this too. The only thing I wonder about is the Bluetooth connection. There was a thread somewhere about wii remotes not working with some app on the market and the explanation was the Bluetooth version we have (3.0) would require considerable changes to make it work. I don't want to fork out the cash only to find out they are not compatible. I read that thread weeks ago, so I don't remember the particulars. Hopefully, someone will chime in that has already tried it.
Hmm. I've had no issues connecting with a few bluetooth devices... Never really had that concern, hope there are no issues. Wonder if you could return an item for that...
I was going to ask in his forum if anyone has tried it on a Galaxy S of any sort, but I never got the password e-mail. I'll try again later. Here's the thread that is making me balk. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought.
Bluetooth 3.0 Compatible Controllers for Gaming?
I just got the cheapest BT ODB2 dongle from eBay (<$30), and it works fine on my 2010 Silverado HD. The throttle position sensor didn't seem to work right (my foot does just as well ), but the boost sensor seems like it may have...? I only drove around the block - we'll see when I'm getting on the freeway tomorrow. Being a new truck, there are no SES lights for me to check. Also, my truck has BT for the stereo, and there didn't seem to be any issues being connected to both.
In short, it works just fine for what it seems to be for (simple guages & such).

A new $10 gas cap and a $25 AutoZone code reader would probably be cheaper and easier.
The gas caps for my car go bad every few months, it's just a design flaw I think. With all of the additional features the app offers + the cool factor, I think its worth it. May give one of the cheaper cables a try.
down8, got a link for the cable you got man?
Awesome + Finally!
I've been waiting for one of these to come out for some time. I have had a BT adapter in my car, as I used it with my Nokia N810 (using a software called CARMAN). It has some +/-'s, but this new software (Torque) is simply amazing.
Ended up using the free version, but purchased as soon as I got home. Will do some more testing and report soon.
I think it is pretty cool app, even though I can scan the codes for free at an AutoZone, but if you mod your car the app will come handy when you need to setup your CAI to by-pass ECU, etc.
I've been playing around with this app using a $30 Chinese bt dongle from ebay. It works great, you don't need the $100 one unless you plan to use it for pro level diagnostics (which some people do). It's got a ton of cool functions, the least of which is being able to read and reset fault codes. But I use for that too. It may not be able to read all the OBD output from your car, for example, it won't list the turbo boost for my Volvo, but that is vehicle dependent. Check out the forums on the dev's site; lots of good info there. Btw, I'm using the paid version.

^ I think I know which one you are referencing, but I've seen variations. Could you post a link to the one you snagged... I have a saab so perhaps I will have similar success. Thanks for letting me know that.
Wow the developer needs to get on board with CobbTuning for the import enthusiast guys. This tool would be awesome to flash tuned performance maps. My accessport cost me $600+. Pretty awesome. Shame you couldn't just use the sensor to the micro USB.

Sorry for the delay. Here's a link to the one I purchased. OBDII Scanner - seller autodoctor007. It shipped pretty fast from China.
wow, this is a great idea. i have not tried it yet, as i dont have an obdII to BT, but this looks awesome.
On a side note, as i dont have the obdII/BT connection yet, I do have an OBDII to USB cable. Can this or another app use that? I guess I would have to get a USB to microUSB adaptor to plug into phone.... how about any computer programs that will use the ODB to USB adaptor to monitor car data/engine lights?

Awesome, thanks man!
The cheap chinese OBD II don't work with all vehicles so be wary about buying one of the these. I bought one for $25 on ebay and they don't connect with Ford's interface, however it did connect to my Dodge truck.

Android Car Stereo (AN6B01)

I purchased an android based car stereo a few months ago and am thinking about trying to cook a rom for it.
I am inexperienced in cooking, but am quite computer savy. Also am new to posting here, so if this is in the wrong area I apologize.
I know there isn't going to be much interest, but I thought maybe I would post some info here and see what I get. I think decks may be heading in this direction and some input would be great.
The only real downside so far to the unit is that it has a somewhat outdated os and boot time is that of a phone. So speeding up the boot time and upgrading the os would be top priority.
The deck is an Adayo AN6B01. Came stock with 2.2 froyo. I cannot post links being that I am new so here's the best I could do.
www * youtube * com/watch?v=fjz08DgQmb4
www * foryouge * com/en/products-show.asp?prid=AN6B0 Home Page for deck

Looks pretty legit. Hope somebody helps out. I'll be in the market for a new stereo here soon.

Honestly, I like it.
When running it stock with no extra stuff installed the boot time is bearable.
I just can't help, but wanna upgrade it.

Other Names for this Unit
Just to aggregate the names that I found for this same unit over the web:
ADAYO AN6B01
AIKON AK-010A
OttoNavi K1
Nakamichi NMMC-1300
Rydeen DV621
HiTV iDroid 8000
There's a good review from Nils Schneider at (t * co/qC7uy8Lk)
On my tests Gingerbreak 1.1 or 1.2 are not able to root the unit
The unit is great, it has some minor issues on Reverse Camera Mask that I´d like to correct on Camera.apk, but seems that without root I'll not be able to reinstall the modified application.
Another issue is the 3G modem compatibility. It´s not any modem that works with it... a good reason to root the unit and check some logs...
From my experience with a similar unit from Dynavin, everything is peachy until you try to add in support for the touch screen drivers which are closed source - or at least were on my unit. This is the only thing that has halted previous attempts to upgrade to a newer version of android.

I have just ordered one of these units as a xmas prezzie from my wife..
the unit looks great , but being a rooted galaxy s3 user i am also very interested in being able to upgrade this unit
ill keep an eye on this forum and when i recieve my head unit , will post as much info as possible to try and help in any way i can
Good to see there is a thread about the radio. I wrote the review mentioned above some weeks ago.
How did you get this update to version 1.19? My dealer didn't inform me about any update. I'm just downloading and will try it out this weekend.
Hopefully I don't brick the unit, as my branding is Nakamichi.
Rooting the unit would be very nice.
I currently work on an app that listens to the iSteering events and translates them into regular media keys, a first test already succeeded.

I have a Huawei E160 here that works.
Hello Lyve,
I got my Nakamichi 1300 Android yesterday. I have made some program installations outside car and want to install it at Saturday. Do you have made the 1.19 update from K1 unit? Does it work and do you have found important chnages? Thanks for an answer.

Andreas
Damn, so someone's already done it, eh? Making something like this has been on my mind for years now, and I guess I shouldn't be surprised it's already been made. I was thinking of using a nano-itx atom-based board and android on x86, but arm is so much better supported so that's good.
'Nuff about my idea, have you opened this unit up? Do you have the wifi adapter for it? I wonder if you can find any open ports by scanning that wifi adapter's IP. Maybe you could telnet to it lol. I see it has USB... do you have a USB serial dongle? There has to be some way to get an adb shell at least, I would think. I asked about opening it up because many embedded devices will have some headers on their mainboard for a serial or USB connection.
Cool stuff, let us know what else you find out about it and good luck.
Edit: I'm going to download the firmware update and see if I can find out anything from that... no promises though.
Hello tethrk,
WIFI adapter was included and works fine. I do not have opened the device because there are many warranty labels on it. I Paid 600€. When it gets defective, I do not want to have discussions with the dealer. I have no serial adapter for rooting the device, but I think this is a very interesting point. At the moment there is Android 2.2 on it. I found some apps who needs Android 4+ and can't run with 2.2. But anyway, I have installed yesterday in my car and it works really fine. One point is steering wheel control and hearing music when navigating. But I will try to make this working today. Google navigating and hearing music works, but Sygic and music not for example. Overall a nice expensive toy
Best regards
Andreas
Apparently that download contains a system image, but the filesystem used is ubifs. This means that I have to use some mtd hack to mount the image. Hopefully I can get to it tomorrow.

Hi,
I have checked the content from update 1.19. My files on device are the same date. So I have it installed in radio. I hope there comes a new update soon which I get from my dealer. Especially when the rear cam switched back and the radio traffic system switched back, I have some problems. Nomrally it should switch back to previous used source, but it does not. For example after traffic message has finished, it switch back to AUX2 but not to source I have heard before.

arriving tommorow
Well after a long nightmare getting mine through customs, it seems it will finally be in my possession tomorrow, although I am going to have to wait for an auto electrician to install it.
As said , im not into taking this unit apart due to the cost and import nightmare, however I am up for trying to help as much as i can to get this thing rooted and upgraded to JB if at all possible..
Help please

some news???
Hello everybody.
is there any news regarding the rooting of this device? I did realize that the hard reset (menu+back+power) did not work (as well as the reset button). Its hard to take the chances without having the possibility to restore the head unit to factory standards if something go wrong...
mine head unit is the AIKON AK-010a by the way.
The system seams really secured, there is no possibility even to change the dock apps. ;(
looking forward for some news.
everybody quit???
Hi guys,
lets put this thread back to live. I did find a way to receive the update data from the adayo an6b01.
Considering I do have an AIKON I would like to know how are my chances to brick the device going through the update.
I verify that some of my apks are "foryou" which are the same from the adayo.
Any tips?
Hi, I've had this unit for a few months now and I was able to root it using the z4root app that is available on the pay store. I haven't really done anything fancy except backup the files using titanium backup. I'm using the Adayo version by the way.
I too have just managed to root my device with z4 ...
I am currently working on a better launcher solution using " home simple " as a base and modifying it
Ill try and get some screens and post some stuff up tommorow...
Im really pleased this has rooted ok... now its time to mod the hell out of it
