OK!
The above ROM has been released and I believe many users have already downloaded it.
Just to check whether:-
a) any problme faced during installation? Is the upgrading procedure straight forward?
b) any problem upgrading from WAXX ROM to this UK ROM?
c) any problme faced during upgrading from i-Mate v1.72 to this UK ROM?
d) other problems encountered?
Thanks for your feedback
ive downloaded both and tried had no problems so far try using file from here

I will upgrade later tonight, and hopefully report back tomorrow
RE
Hi Hobbit!
What file and where's the link?
BTW, is the performance better than the WAXX ROM and the i-Mate v1.72 ROM?
Thanks
this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12512
sorry was in different forum lol
I've uploaded ROMs here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12528
yep tried em both. no real noticable difference to the unofficial 1.72 ive been using for months. Looks like its new device time as no hope of further updates - unless someone knows differntly....
I have upgraded, no problems.......everything works fine !!
RE
Just one question.
Is this upgrade solely meant for UK users?
I'm from the asian side. I just can't wait for myxda to release its asian version.
Any problem with my asian telco operators here?
Thanks
I just upgraded my XDA II to the O2 UK 1.72.187 release. It all went well. I previously had installed the i-mate 1.72 ROM.
I had used Activesync to do a full backup prior to upgrading, and I restored it after the upgrade. After a couple of soft resets, everything seems OK, including the Widcomm bluetooth stack I previously had installed.
So, although early days yet, everything seems OK
Only downside - in my opinion
I was using the asian ROM version 1.60.44 for the longest time without any problems, I just upgraded to the UK ROM version 1.72.181 and the only downside I noticed, as of now, is that the clear type sucks, its just like the 1.72 of the i-Mate, of the 1.66 of the Asian O2. It was way better in the old ROM I was using.

Take a look at this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9279
Thanks DCS for the link. My ClearType is A OK again now
My pleasure
Just upgraded to the image with blackberry version on a CPW xdaII runing 1.66 - result good
1st I backed up with version 3.7.1 of active sync
then I hard reset
then I closed all the programs and icons in the system tray
First it failed with usb left on the screen.
I did a soft reset and re ran the upgrade program again and all is well.
I am now restoring the backup, haha which worked except for a few files which I skipped, these were the same files that were skipped on a normal restore.
Now my destinator satnav is working and that is tied to the machine so all in ace
what have I gained, I don't really known, looking forward to the fax though,
where is it?
Simon
Additional download.
You will find it in the Fax software in the XDAIIAppSuite uploaded by The Hobbit in his post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12526

Do you try ClearType Tuner in this ROM, the file is cttune.cpl.CAB
I think it's another way to correct the cleartype problem beside the dcs' way? Is it right?
is there anyone got problems like mine?I stuck with SMS, i did send one sms to my number and it takes 4 hour to delivery it and when i go to sent box i didnt see any sms that i have sent???? do you knows that and can you tell me how to fix it?
From Inbox check Tools/Options/Keep copy of sent mail in Sent folder
As for the four hour delay - I get that sometimes - I put it down to O2 network.

I tried the T-Mobile 1.60 rom on my O2 xda2.
It works perfectly with my xda2.
However, I found some interest thing on the new rom upgrade process
1. It seems XDA2 (or HTC Himalaya) use one single program for RAIDO / Extended Rom / OS Rom update. It seems Radio upgrade failure may no longer case device failure, because the RADIO upgrade process is same as OS upgrade process, and not required to copy the whole software into the RAM to upgrade.
2. Sinces some of us (and my XDA2) report that the exteneded rom is READ ONLY, but the upgrade program can update the extended rom. That means the Exteneded rom is not REALLY read only, but somewhere locked it. More funny is , it is seems the Main OS rom is not controlling the exteneded rom is locked or not, because after I updated the extended rom, it is still locked.
3. If O2 XDA2 can use T-Mobile MDA2 update, it seems the upgrade software no longer check the header of the device (At lease this version won't). I think we can use it to change device's language. However I don't know how to dump the rom in .nbf format, is that possible to convert the nb1 format to nbf format?
Thanks.
Hi killercheung...
where are you find the 1.60 rom ?
and the radio what version is ?
Can you put it in my ftp pls ?
it's always on
ftp://dgmatic.com
user: xda

...like this we can have it all
Thanks in advance

I asked here for you, hopefully it will be available for everyone soon:

killercheung, thanks for that... I'm still deciding whether to apply the new rom to my UK XDA II.... is the language of the rom netherlands? or can I have it all in english as it is with the normal O2 rom?
Do we lose anything from the o2 rom/extended rom ?
I'm wondering if O2 do bring an upgrade out if we'll be able to still use it if we've tried this t-mobile 1.60 rom.... hmmmmm
hmmm decisions decisions... do you think its much better than the current o2 rom?
Now that I have moved to the 1.60 rom, I must say there's ONE thing I DO miss ....
My O2 BUBBLES ARE GONE FROM MY ASIAN O2.
(I obviously knew this could happen, but thought I'd made a backup of my extended ROM (I DID, but I accidentally tossed it a few days ago) . Who would be so kind as to send me a copy of the O2.cab file from the extended rom, so that I can put the bubbles back into my dialer ...)

Re: Some interesting things on the T-Mboile 1.60 update soft
Hi Killercheung,
You've missed out something ... the EXE file can be unzipped (using Winrar) ... you will then see the same upgrade.exe files, nbf files (3 of them) ... you can then deleted the ms_.nbf so that only the CORE ROM and RADIO is updated, and keep all O2 EXTENDED_ROM content untouch.
You can also use the same method to upgrade to Chinese ...

Good news about the T-Mobile ROM. I don't know what they have fixed/patched, but my O2 XDA II ROM never bothered to disconnect the GPRS connection after having spent some time online, not after surfing, not after checking e-mail. Mind you the T-moblile ROM doesn't either, except ....... when checking e-mail, which in my eyes is quite important.
So now I can go back to have my XDA check my e-mail once per hour, knowing that it will disconnect automatically.
(And Satria, thanks for sending me my bubbles

Hi,
Just one question. Did any of you that make the update testet with the bluetooth GPS?
If yes, It works? or you still have to install TOWA´s patch?

For NBF, you can use XDAtools to capture the Chinese ROM, I did once with the English ROM and the file size is exactly the same as the one in 1.60 update. So there should have no missing bytes in the saved file.
For the EXTENDED_ROM, no idea how to save in NBF format ..
I have installed the update but TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5.
@axbl
Hi, What do you think about the update? It´s mutch better than before?
You say "TomTom doesnt see the serial ports 4/5."
Have you installd Towa solution?

yikes...... did that happen on the old rom as well or did gprs stay connected on the original rom?
I hate the way gprs disconnects on devices.. it's supposed to be always on, and I'd really prefer if it stayed on during suspend etc so that MSN could stay connected, notifying me when I got a message....
Email checking likewise, I'd prefer gprs remained always connected and it'd check email in the background whether off or on, notifying me when it got a new mail.
I can't check the behaviour of my xda II since Im on "roaming" at the moment in another country so no gprs
but can anyone say for sure which way the old vs new rom work in this regard?

It's the same link to download 1.72.181

You will find the link to download 1.72.181...
http://64.244.24.19/xda/Xda_II_172181_Final.exe
Do you pick only one of the two, off to read PDF's.
Here are the answers from the PDF's...
181 will disconnect any connection when phone rings, except the Blackberry, Mobile Web and WAP connections. If you need to use a permanent GPRS connection that will remain connected when phone is used, you should use 187 version.
Also, there are additional apps available for download as well (same page).
1. KSE Truefax
2. Fonix Voice Dial
3. ZIP Manager
This is the GERman update, AFAIK...
Could anybody provide the username and password for www.SourceO2.com website for downloading this updates, please? Thank you.

You can register a username for free on the O2 site, and get a password mailed to you. You will then be able to download the files.
Ha, cool! Thanks. I thought is dependent on using O2 device (check on IMEI)...
Hm... I'm registred, but my credentials are not working...
You can follow the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=63862#63862 to get the upgrade working. mine is at 38% updated and I should be done in about an hour or so.
The extra applications file is attached to this post for simplicity...

A release from O2Asia is expected. O2Asia usually follows about a week after O2UK, I think.
Hi All
I have original Australian O2 ROM:
ROM Version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM Date: 02/20/04
Radio Version: 1.08.00
Protocol Version: 1337.18
ExtROM Version: 1.66.165
I also use the O2 Bluetooth head set which I would also like to keep using (I've noticed a few people having issues with some ROM upgrade versions)
Please could someone send me a link where I can download the most stable/updated ROM for my Australian XDA II.
Sorry for asking for links but I am so confused when trying to search for this, I never know what one to use and there are so many around.
I would also like to (IF POSSIBLE) get an upgrade ROM that is automated like O2 original ROM's, one EXE that extracts and does it all for you... no commands or lots of text to read though and try and work out how to do it all....
MANY THANKS!!!!!
Hope someone can help me out!

Best thing would be to download the UK one for Xda II, hack the device_ID on yours to make it look like a UK one.,,,,,
Thanks for the reply Southern_Man.
Does the UK one have the settings and profiles for Telstra Settings and all. Eg. When you do a hard reset it askes you to select your phone provider to set up the settings for that provider. I would have though it would have only had UK telco's as mine only seems to have Australian ones?
Does any one else have an easy upgrade path for the O2 XDAII for either Win2003 or Win2003SE... but I am looking for a stable version where every thing works that should... EG. Alarms, Bluetooth headset, Bluetooth GPS, Phone...etc..etc
Many thanks guys!

You're right, it only has the O2 UK settings. But imate have published a list of config cabs for most carriers which you can download and use.
Read the site, update your xda ii, open the extended rom (bit like a small hard disk) and load your own settings in.
You'll get a great deal of satisfaction, and a new way of using your gadget...
Hi Southern_Man
Thanks oncea again for the fast reply.
This version you are talking about I'm asuming it is Win2003 (same as the one I have currently?) is ther much diference that you know of?
Also where can I download all the required software (Rom, ID changer, Config Cabs..etc..etc) and instructions on how to get it all done?
In your opinion do you think it's worth the effort (as it is the same OS version? I am unsure what they have fixed etc..etc)
Thanks once again for your efforts.. Sorry I'm just not into the pocketPC stuff as much at the moment and I use it every day so don't want to stuff any thing up... want to double and triple check before I do any thing

ROM Upgrade
Downloaded the UK version and upgraded to 1.72.181 with no problems. Has been working fine and solved the SMS problem but still have Notes that won't open.
With the download all I needed to do was input the Imei number and it downloaded fine. Got it from the UK XDA site.
On flashing it did report one problem and then suggested that I disconnect, reconnect the device and try again. That was successful.
I can recommend this for anyone in Australia so far. The configuration to GPRS is different as autoconfig is removed but that was pretty simple really.
Also got the application updates from the site and found the voice dialler to be great so far. Fax facility not much use unless you're happy to pay all the fees to optus for the service.
Will consider the extended ROM upgrade to higher versions to see if I can solve the notes problem or may use the ROM unlocker to copy another file from an uncorrupted device.
Telstra config
The UK version was easily able to sort out the optus stuff and search for the network. I'm pretty sure it will do the telstra stuff no probs. Thats version 1.72.181 I'll check it right now to see although I don't have a telstra sim card....No Problems! Go to phone , options, network, click on manual selection, it will then search for all available networks and will pick up optus, telstra and vodaphone AU with no problems. No point in stuffing around with all the technical stuff!
Hi fairchiro
Thanks for the reply.
I have just tried to download the updates but it says my IME number is not valid or has already been registerd? I have registered it on MyXDA.com when I purchased the phone a few years ago, could this be my problem?
Do you know where else I can get a copy of this ROM? Also what is the Extended ROM update do? I though the updates updated every thing? (Eg. Radio, Extended, Rom...etc..etc) If not is there a copy of the ROM that updates all software on the PDA?
Also does any one know what is diferent between the UK and Australian version I am currently running?
I have original Australian O2 ROM:
ROM Version: 1.66.00WWE
ROM Date: 02/20/04
Radio Version: 1.08.00
Protocol Version: 1337.18
ExtROM Version: 1.66.165
Is there much point is just upgrading the ROM version if the others are also not updated?
Does this update fix or have a better battery life (when using bluetooth for example?)
Many thanks once again!

Hi Guys, also been reading around I'm not too sure what the diferences are between the two versions (Eg. Version I have and the UK updated version)...
Would it be better for me looking at upgrading to Win2003SE as there seems to be a few more features it offers? If so what is the best and esiest upgrade path to take... and the most stable (stability is what I am looking for!)

Microsoft seem to have a fairly consistent model, whereby it takes them 3-4 attempts to release a decent build of anything. AKU2 is their 3rd go at WM2003SE, and is actually pretty good. Fast, good battery and so on. Worth it for speed and stability.
When they are at AKU2 on Magneto, supposedly in the new year, then all those Windows Mobile 5 devices will be worth looking at (and cheaper too)
ROM Upgrades
Hi Fudgebum....sorry, bottom.
I don't think that the previous registration of your IMEI at myxda will be a problem because mine was registered there also.
The 1.72.181 upgrade will update your ROM, radio, and Extended ROM all at the same time.
Don't quote me on this but, I get the understanding that the extended ROM is one that is not quite essential to the basic running of the PDA. In other words you can play with it so that certain programs are included and certain ones are not. Hey but I'm still learning about all this stuff too. In this forum lots of guys, especially "zero" or is it "extremezero" or similar, seem to cook up their own versions of the extended ROM for personalizing aspects of the pda operation and available applications.
If you want to send me a personal message (see PM's above) then I can post you a cd with the ROM update on it or you should be able to download it at the UK site . Can't understand why you can't as long as you can input an IMEI. :?
Good Luck
I have the Orange SPV M3100 and was wondering when (and if) they release a ROM upgrade, where will it be posted?
O2, TMobile and Voda all have download pages for various things, but Ornage don't seem to do this.
Now come on. Please put a ? on the end of your subject! I nearly wet myself when I saw your post, thinking that they'd pulled their fingers out and posted a new ROM
When they do post it, it will be at
http://www.business.orange.co.uk/se...4132772045&extarg1=Phone&t=SMEDeviceDownloads
LOL Sorry never thought of that
That's FUNNY!
I followed the link above to the Orange page about the M3100. It says that standby time is 6 days! ROFL!
I get about 1 day out of mine - and I hardly make any calls!
Being a little inaccurate - ok. Getting 18% of "official" figure - that's just plain old BS...
Have heard Orange won't be releasing an update until January so don't get your hopes up for one soon.

The link you provide doesn't have their first and only ROM. Does anyone have it. I need it very badly since I want to play with upgrading and using hard spl. I'm afraid if I brick it again while upgrading I'll have a chance to flash the original ROM.
Does anyone know when they will have an upgrade? Will they ever???????

I was waiting for 6 months. Gave up in the end and just took the cover and screen off my bricked SPV and put it on a knackered Vario ii.
I'm not sure what Orange's thinking will be with updating this ROM - if they start selling SPVs with Windows Mobile 6 they may just not bother releasing an Updated ROM at all (unless the need arises to release a newer ROM for handsets pre-installed with WM6 - in which case I doubt the older WM5 handsets will be supported by such an upgrade due to licensing issues).
Much as I would've liked to find a ROM update I really don't think they'll bother: there are no real issues with the original ROM (at least I never came across any).
I Cooked A WM6 Orange Ron Using Bepes Kitchen. It Has All Of The Orange Settings Installed, But It's WM6. Use The UK Orange Package Posted In Bepes Thread.

will that work?
Orange id needs to be 001 not 008 otherwise it'll say invalid vendor ID.
I've the same problem from November 2006 !!!!!! Please a rom with 001 cid !!!! Thanks from Italy
How does your cooked ROM perform? Does it have all the Orange settings for GPRS/MMS etc? Was thinking of cooking it as although I currently use WMXL, I would really like the Orange settings built in.

Bebes thread has a striped ROM(operator settings only I think). What I'm after is a complete shipped ROM for just in case I brick it again.
My intention is to keep the bootloader to 1.04 and use Hard-Spl. Then I'm able to upgrade to anything without worries.
Ok, Well The Cooked WM6 Rom Works Fine, @findus Yes All The Orange Settings Are Included, No Problems As Of Yet.
@sniper258 I Also Recompiled The Original Orange UK Rom From A Dump Someone Had Made, It Is The Original OS That Is Supplied With Your Orange SPV M3100. Search For Rom Reconstruction And You'll Find It.
Cheers
@sniper258 From The Sounds Of It You Still Have The Original Rom Installed, Could You Tell Me What Radio Rom It Ships With Originally So I Can Create A Proper Original Rom That Includes The Same IPL,SPL,OS And Radio.
IPL - 1.01
SPL - 1.04
OS - Orange UK 001
Radio - ??
Just A Quick Check You Are From The UK Yes?
Cheers
As stated the cooked rom as above does add all of the settings but the battery icon on the top bar does not work, after install it stays as the clock.
Changing the registry to show the via ms shell does not work either as the battery icon does appear but does not function.
@the.drone
Is This The WM6 ROM? I Didn't Know That Was The Case, I Use SPB File Explorer Which Uses A Today Plugin Whos Battery Meter Works. But I Can See How Annoying That Would Be.
Off Topic Where Is Lake Vyrnwy In Wales?

Great! Always usefull when you need to restore your device
Has anyone tested if any of these ROMs flash properly.. for me it would be the Dutchversion then... But I can not test right now can not have my phone broken down. Once Kaizer is out I am going to buy that one and then I could test, but would be nice to know if these dumped ROMs work
Unfortunately I do not know, I haven't even tested the UK version as I am not sure if it will work, however I did update the RUU.
Shame we cannot emulate the firmware install!
The T-Mob UK dumped ROM isn't quite right - the w'n'w home page doesn't work properly.
Minor thing but, one of the first things I tested
I dumped my friends ROM the other day. I'm currently working on building it and testing it - will let you know when it's done
Cheers,
Smiffy.
Hmmm...humble pie - lovely
Well, after flashing the ROM i dumped the other day, I had exactly the same thing with IE.
It took me about 3 seconds to realise it must be because the extROM had been flashed by one of the WM6 ROMs I had been using in the past.
As it turns out, this is the case so I can confirm that if you have the same issue, download the extROM dumo from the wiki (from this page) and delete the current contents of your extROM and copy the downloaded one back to it. Hard reset, and voila - everything back the way T-Mobile shipped (apart from Radio ROM, IPL\SPL etc...) but WTH ;-)

Trapper,
I assume you mean how can you put the correct Extended ROM onto your device? If I understand this correctly, the ROMs mentioned in Jygar's first post are the original main ROM but the Extended ROM is in fact from a Windows Mobile 6 ROM (I do not believe that flashing a ROM will affect the Extended ROM - the problem is that the re-flashed (downgraded) WM5 ROM is starting the Extended ROM installation after the basic OS install (as normal) but that Extended ROM is still a WM6 one.
The page that is linked to includes many Extended ROMs from many countries and devices - one of them an original T-Mobile ROM (here) and if you were to unlock/unhide and mount your Extended ROM you would be able to delete the incorrect (WM6) ones and then paste in these original Extended ROM files.
The Extended ROM files are executed during a hard reset after the OS has been installed - details of how this works are within this forum. I am not sure that you need to do a hard reset but it all depends on whether you stopped the device completing a normal (complete) install. After a hard reset the device will start to execute the Extended ROM files/.cabs and if you stop that with a soft reset as soon as it starts then the device will re-boot with a basic WM build (with no service provider fixes/updates/customisations/settings)
If this is all explaining what you already know then sorry but your question posted is rather open... Hope this helps
ExtROM.nb attached Just put it into an NBH and flash
@tony.wheeler - What was the original radio version of your Vario II? I'm in the process of creating a complete upgrade to restore UK MDA Vario II's to their 'out of the box' state with the original ROMs (IPL, SPL, MainSplash, SubSplash, OS, Radio ExtROM)
Phil
eek, think it was 1.03?
[edit]Have done a search it appears it is 1.05!
only problem is this is HTC_BOOT 0106 and most ppl are now patched to 0108 so I would have thought we cannot downgrade our radio rom.
TBH 1.43 is the best radio rom out and i cannot say a bad word against it. I have only eva updated my radio rom and since the radio update have not had a problem with the origional t-mob os.
Hehe, yeah i found out it was 1.05 as well. Oh well, I'll use 1.07 in my NBH. I now have a complete ROM backup (IPL, SPL, GSM, OS, MainSplash, SubSplash, ExtROM) to revert back to should anything ever happen which means I would need to claim on the warranty.
Phil
The dutch rom seems to be in *.raw files. How can i open of re compile it?

I keep loosing connection with the 1.50 that came with the WM6 test ROM, and also falling down to GSM even though I'm in a good 3G reception area.
Didn't seem to notice these problems before. I was running Radio 1.48 onto of the old radio.

Any chance of you posting this backup ROM? There are many of us who would be very keen to have this as a safety net for when we have to return our Vario 2s under warranty.

I too am running with Radio 1.50, after a short-lived update to WM6. I have had no problems at all with 2g or 3g, steady as a rock.
