Is anyone else having a problem with this new application from O2 for the XDA II? When I send a fax from my device it disconnects the telephone connection and comes up with an error message "No dail tone detected"?
I have the same problem - I only share this so you know you're not alone.
Yup
Another peice of untested o2 sh%t.
You have to enable the fax service on your sim,
phone 100 and ask them
yes i had the same problem, you have to get fax/data enabled on your phone, they will give you a separate fax number.
my works fine without any problems.
addition to answers above:
1. This questions was allready answered elsewhere on the forum
2. It is by design that the phone app gets de-activated, because it locks the gsm h/w exclusively. It reconnects the phne app afterwards neatly. Nothing wrong with it, although MS could have incorporated fax in its original s/w design of WM2003.
3. It is not O2, it is KSE that build this. And I gues we have to thank them for enabling fax on the Himalaya.
KSE Truefax is unstable on Imate/XDA2. This is due to a bug in GSM firmware. Maybe 1.18 GSM ROM would be more stable.
Works fine with me ...
You have to activate the fax feature from your SIM Card Provider ...

Hi
In my country, Viet Nam, have 2 GSM providers: Vinaphone & Mobiphone.
With Vinaphone sim, I can use GPRS & make call or answer without any problem
But with Mobiphone sim card, GPRS confict with GSM, so can not make call or answer any call,
The problem here is GPRS from Mobilphone, I can ask mobiphone to stop GPRS for my Mobil simcard, then can make call without any problem.
The question is: Can I stop GPRS from O2 XDA , not from Mobiphone System.
O2 XDA II can work with mobiphone with GPRS without any problem
Pls help.
Thanks & Best Regards
Hai Nguyen, you could delete your GPRS connection settings - no settings,
no GPRS! If you just wish to stop GRPS after using it for a while, press
and hold the red key for a few seconds, and that should disconnect you.
I am surprised that VMS and Mopiphone have a different setup - in almost
all other respects they are very similar, since they are heavily leglislated.
The only real difference I have found is on hte edge of their rural coverage,
especially around Long Xuyen.
Good luck anyway,
Dave.
There is a Freeware where you are able to choose whether you want GPRS to stay connected once you no longer use it. It installed ok on my unit, no strange behavior.

Thanks all for your help
But the problem here is not GRPS software, This is a GPRS signal conficted with GSM Signal
GPRS software, connect or not is not this problem
I call Mobilephone to stop my GPRS so I can use Mobiphone simcard with O2 XDA (Running SX56 2003 rom, Radio Stack 4.21),
When I call back Mobilephone to active my GPRS signal. this problem come.
SO
This can not use GPRS software to stop or solve.
It is only solve by stopping GPRS signal from provider, so I look for the way to stop from handphone (some modify in registry or radio stack)
Pls advise

Sending a fax requires a direct peer-to-peer connection, allowing you to transfer audio realtime..
This can not be done by GPRS, since GPRS is PURE DATA traffic.
You may, how ever, send your document to a spesific mail adress..
The service provider will then send it as a fax to the number you sepcify.
This is a service offered by several companies, at different rates..
All,
I'm being driven crazy by a recalcitrant Orange M3100. I had my old one set up no problem with O2 but it got stolen so my friend gave me his old one. Now I cannot get mobile internet/MMS etc to work. When I try to connect I get the "there is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your registered home network". This was the case with both Orange's WM5 and Shaps WM6.
I've studied all the posts on here and have installed a radio ROM that, apparently, should work but it still doesn't. I've tried about 6 but none of them solve the problem. Voice/SMS work fine as does WIFI. Current setup is as follows:
ROM: Schap's 4.31
ROM date: 10/03/07
Radio: 1.47.00.10
Protocol: 32.80.7020.20H
It's unlucked and HardSPL7 is installed.
If anyone could help me out I'd be really grateful!
I've recently set up my m3100 using o2 to receive mms,
following the settings on this website.
That was the only one that has worked for me.
http://www.m3w.co.uk/2006/11/o2-settings/
i don't know about internet, but mms works.
hope this helps
regards
Thanks Sniuk - will tag that for future reference. I've now just solved the problem and, ultimately, it was nothing to do with the phone. Despite me having asked *twice* O2 had failed to notice and remove the GPRS bar that was put in place along with all the other bars when my handset was stolen last week!!
They've given me some free line rental to apologise, though
Hi, i am a totally new in PDA phone, i just got an Orange SPV M3100 from my brother-in-law in UK, and it works fine in Malaysia excepts the GPRS and MMS.
Everytime i try to open the internet explorer, an error message pops up: "there is a problem connecting to the GPRS service in your resgistered network".
I have consulted my local service provider, they try to solve the problem at first, but finally they told me that i must upgrade from WM5 to WM6, and the mentioned problem will be solve.
Can anyone provide me an advice for the above problems? How to upgrade from WM5 to WM6?
Read the Hermes Wiki for upgrading to WM6. Your mobile service provider just needs to supply you with connection details to their internet service so they have not given you correct information.
Some ROMS come with a connection app for service providers around the world that automatically configure your internet & MMS settings. This may also come as a .cab file. Do some reading and searching.
Thanks!
Hi Wam7, Thanks a lot for your advice!
Hi Everyone,
I have just joined Giffgaff in the UK as service provider. They use O2 network so they are classed as a "virtual provider" as far as I know.
I have entered the APN info in order to get on the net and send mails and all works great. But, I cannot send MMS.
>there is no place in the OS to enter MMS details
>on MSFT site it said that the phone will read the SIM on first boot assuming ADC is enabled.
>I reset the phone and still no MMS
> I ring Nokia and they tell me that ADC is in fact enabled in unlocked Lumias.
>how can I check this?
>others say to install the network setup app but I can't because I don't have the very latest firmware
>some have tried this and now say that Giffgaff is not in the drop down menu so therefore can't be used.
So, as I am chevron unlocked, is there any way to change registry settings to ensure that ADC is enabled and therefore hopefully read the info from the sim card?
As long as your phone is debranded the handset should read the SIM card settings after a hard reset.
You should also be able to install the Network Setup app once it is released again (hopefully soon) after it was taken down to be updated.
If your phone isn't debranded then hard resetting won't help and you won't be able to install the Network Setup app. You won't even be able to see it in the Marketplace.
See this thread for more information on debranding.
See this thread for more information on Network Setup app/MMS/ADC.
Thanks for this great info. My phone was bought from Clove and is supposed to be unlocked. There is no branding other than Nokia. The problem is, I think, the fact that ADC may not be enabled even though it is unlocked. I called Nokia to make sure and they told me that all unlocked phones had ADC enabled and it was only carrier phones that had this functionality disabled. I somehow do not believe this.
If auto data config is not enabled then the info on the sim, card canot be read. And I reset my phone in the hope that I could get the MMS details this way but no success. I have read elsewhere as well that even I can get the network setup app from marketplace it will still not work because Giffgaff are not included as a service provider at this stage. Oh, what to do. WHy could MSFT not have given us this functionality within the OS in the same way as our old winmo platform.:-(
Network Setup app has been available for awhile already, at least for me. I just received an update for it through Marketplace this morning.

Network setup is not even in my marketplace because I am running 11451 firmware and it is only available in th every latest firmware (according to Nokia). And anyway, even if I had network setup available to me there is no mention of Giffgaff as a provider so I still cannot get MMS settings on my unlocked Nokia Lumia 800. What we need is either a MSFT update allowing us to change MMS settings or Nokia to include Giffgaff on their app. I think its that simple.
The network setup app came avalible today in the UK.
It would install and run but still couldnt send MMS on a vodafone branded device, so ive just debranded and its all working fine.
So i can now send and recive MMS
We need to get Giffgaff included on Nokia network setup app; simple as!
