Activesync and downloading - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I've used DVD-to-Pocket PC to shrink some of MY dvd's into .wmv files and they are ready to load onto my Expansys 512 card - the only problem is that when I copy and paste onto the memory card using Activesync, it stops copying after about 3 - 4 mins and starts again, although it never actually finishes. I know the obvious answer is to use a card reader but I've several already and really don't need another. Is there any way of using AS and the cradle to copy something like 250mb - 300mb??

try use a memory card reader to copy over
to see work or not

I have successfully copied 374MB (WIKI Encyclopaedia in TR format) via AS to the SD card. It takes a while, and even though the blue bar seems to restart it is still actually transfering data. Check the memory usage and watch it changing to confirm data is being transferred.
Regards

Success
I followed Flintanis's advice and bingo - straight on. I opened the storage card on Active sync and watched the memory counter go up, it took about 20 min but I'm not bothered about that, just so long as the whole process works. Cheers.

HD2 killed two of my 8GB MicroSD?

I have two 8GB Sandisk MicroSD card killed by my HD2 (i think so). Anybody faces the same prob? The cards are totally dead now after using it in my HD2 for a few days...
No such experience.
Good to know the Bland and model.
You mean brand?
Try to format it on your pc...
I had the same Isue.. could not format it on xp pc only on windows 7 pc..
mos of the time if you let you put it in your card reader and its recognized.. you just have to let it scan for errors and let it fix them..
Sometimes my cardreader fails to detecet my card. I don't think this is related to my HD2, atleast I don't hope so.
Not had it...yet...on my sandisk 8GB MicroSD. This is the one straight out of a Nokia 5800. The 2GB one which cam with my HD2 went tits up after I tried to import a playlist from WMP onto it. Seems I'm not alone with this issue either...
For the first time I can report a problem with my HTC HD2.
I also seem to have a problem with my 8Gb Scandisk card. It seems either my telephone or my laptop screwed the card up.
I have standard stock last rom available in Holland manilla 2.5 Rom 1.66. No special things installed.
The card works almost 100% except when I go to the tap music. Then hell breaks loose. The phone looks for the music files. But cannot find them and then suddenly the phone cannot recognize the card anymore? I have to restart the phone before it can recognize the card again. This only happens when I go to Music.
But the damage is done anyway. Cause when I insert card in laptop or computer. I can see the files but according to the computer there empty (which is not the case). I cannot copy or cut while in card is inserted in the computer.
I accepted this problem cause I have a good working TomTom on it which someone else installed for me. If I format the card I cannot put it back.
Try to format your card, I did this from my laptop (if it can reorganize it) and NOT chose FAST. Becouse if there is a problem with the card it will simply skip it. This is also a golden rule when you install new OS on a old or well used laptop.
Copy the tomtom folders to a folder on your PC before formatting, then copy back...done
I have a 8GB Sandisk card, I've had it on 3 plones now, using it for about 3 years, still works like a charm.
To the OP, maybe you got fake ones, Sandisk is the most counterfeit memory card brand, if you got them on ebay or so and not in a respectable street shop they might be fakes, for which that kind of failures are typical.

I have this problem, and I went back to HTC. I got a new phone replacement and everything is fine thereafter. =)
I had a problem with 3 different Kingston 8GB cards.
Statred working fine, but after writing more then 2GB to them, they suddenly died.
I tried all of them in the phone and in a card reader, and they acted the same way.
As a final test - I used a SanDisk card, and it works just fine from the time I got it.
So - maybe, you just have defective cards ?
Did you try formatting the cards in the phone and not in the PC ?
I have the same problem. If i put the files on my sd card from my pc there seem to be no problem. After I check these files on my phone, they are damaged or the folder is empty. So.. anyone has suggestions what to do?
Same experience here.
8Gb was working fine the first two days (the card that was included with my HD2)
Then, for no reason got a pop-up (invalid card type, do you want to format?)
At forst I said "no" and tried with my computer... None of the 6 software I used could save my card. Was definatly dead.
Put a second one in (1Gb, just to make sure), it's been a week, and I already get errors when I write. It's like the micro SD is on read only (though ther's no switch to set it back to "write mode")
One of the many (many many many) bugs of my HD2
i had the same problem. the 8gb SanDisk microsd card that originally comes with my htc hd 2 is now useless. lost a lot of pics, cab & songs. it can't even be read by card reader on my laptop. is this some kind of bug?? now im using another 8gb card & hope it wont happen again. im glad though that im not the only one having the problem
And i thought i was the only one. My 8GB only lasted for 1 day before it went died. Had to get a replacement from Service Center. The staff seem to handle it in a very fast manner (guess i am not the only one to get the SD card replaced recently!!)
My guess is i did a hard reset on the phone with the SD card in it. Anyone else did the same thing?
My card has been corrupted twice no the HD2 leading to:
1) Very poor performance
2) Very warm phone
3) Very fast draining battery
I believe it was due to the power saving features enabled to do with the microsd as someone else mentioned on this forum.
its a manufactures defect. something should be done. lots of users are getting this problem now, including me
maybe i know the answer..
sorry for my bad english..
I've the same problem. But searching from all forums, finally i get the answer. just find n download EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Proffessional 4.3.6 (for 5 MB). Insert the mmc in card reader, use this software to recovery all the missing file (choose Complete Recovery Option). After recovery process done, use software LLFTool (for 600kb, just doing some browsing at google) to Low Level Format the mmc (this LLFTool can recognize the mmc). After all done, Windows can recognize again the mmc at windows explorer. Just right click and choose quick format (format FAT32). Done, you can use the mmc like the new one

thanks for your help. i tried your solution but it doesn't work. neither the EASEUS Data Recovery Wizard Professional nor LLFTool detect the memory card. i think there's nothing to be done for the card. just hope htc will sort that out
I have also recently had an issue with my 8gb Sandisk Micro SD card.
It has been working fine for a while now, then yesterday when I went to pick up my phone, I noticed my S2U2 unlock screen was black instead of having my usual wallpaper there. My HD2 had just suddenly decided it can't recognise the card anymore and tells me I need to format it for it to be readable.
I pressed 'no' and tried to read the card on several computers as I wanted to transfer all data off before formatting it, but it would not read on any of them, nor would it work in my old N95.
I don't understand why this has happened, it has been working fine no probs, had about 3gb left on it still and have not recently installed anything on it - very annoyed as I have lost lots of recent photos of my 6month old boy which I cant get back now.
Have had to order a new card and hope this doesn't happen again, but not a happy bunny

[Q] Media Scanner causing phone to continually reboot?

A weird issue manifested on my phone today ... the phone started, upon boot up, to spontaneously reboot. It would boot up within 30s, at which point I unlock it an pulldown the notifications screen (to see what was going on).
I saw several instances of "media scanner running" occurring - over the course of various trials I would see the following messages alternate on the top status bar.
Media scanner running... (system storage)
Media scanner running... (SD card)
Media scanner running.... (USB storage)
Media scanning completed
...while below in the notification areas I'd see the "Media scanning", "Media scanning...USB storage" etc messages periodically appear.
The phone would first lockup, then reboot perhaps 3 out of every 4 startups. Several of those times the last message I saw prior to the lockup was Media scanner running.... (USB storage).
I pulled out the 32FB Sandisk SD card, then tried booting the phone several times, and this time no issue - booted up fine, no lockups nor auto-reboots. Note though that I've had the SD card installed for over a week, and the problem only cropped up today.
There were two SD card-related changes I'd made last night: 1) used ES File Explorer to cut/paste ~400MB of video from the onboard camera storage to the SD card and 2) copied 1.75GB of MP3 files to the SD card.
The MP3s I had copied to /media/music (direct from laptop to SD, using a microSD-to-USB adapter), while the videos (MP4s, created by GS2 camera app) were moved by ES File Explorer to /DCIM/Camera.
So at the moment my phone is working fine (4 clean boots), though sans SD card - any ideas why "media scanner" may be choking upon scanning the SD card? Should I move the SD content to a different directory, or just kill media scanner?
I've seen issues like that but usually with no name low quality SD cards, with them either bad or modified to register as larger.
I'd backup what you have on the card and format it using the phone. If it's still giving you issues try it on a computer and download a program to check the memory sectors to make sure there are no read write errors.
A good free one is ariolic diskscanner. Can't remember if it can scan SD cards though, though I'd be a little surprised if it couldn't.
You don't want to disable media scanner, not even sure if that's possible. Many things require it to be working.

thanks for the tip - I mounted the SD on my PC and backed everything up, then tried deleting the ~2GB Media directory ... no dice, still locked/booted on the first boot up. Going to next clear the other large diretory (DCIM) and see what happends, and then finally reformat the card entirely. Will report back...
so i wiped and formatted the card in the phone ... rebooted several times with the newly empty card, and so far the lock/boot issue hasn't recurred.
Copying all files save the media stuff onto the card, will repeat the test; and then finally will put the media back and see how things go; will report back.
Good deal. Hope that's the last time it gives you trouble.

This is so weird. I've had this problem as of yesterday.
I'm having the exact same issue... but with a Galaxy S 4G.
I tried re-flashing my phone but I realized it was the SD card causing the problem because the internal phone storage scans just fine.
I've tried 2 different SD cards (one Samsung, one Kingston) - backed up my files on my Mac and tried formatting both cards, putting the files back on the SD cards and booted the phone.
Same problem was happening.
The phone boots up fine without the SD card but I am at loss what to do considering most of the apps I use need the SD card to run.
Try formatting them using the phone.
Could be a corrupted file on your SD card. If after the format the phone works fine, put the files back on one at a time and see if that's what's messing it up.
Try also changing the format type. Seems androids like fat32 a little better.

so far so good ... went a day w/o any spontaneous reboots, thought I do want to do a few more startup trials, but fwiw, formatting the SD card (in the phone) seems to have done the trick.
I do realize now that when I first inserted the card in the phone, I just started using it, I didn't bother formatting it - doh!

Same problem on Samsung Galaxy Ace
I'm experiencing the exactly same problem on my rooted Samsung Galaxy Ace (Gingerbread 2.3.6).
Reboots with SD card mounted and working fine with SD card unmounted.
I'm using Link2SD with a 2nd ext2 partition, and when SD card is unmounted, all Linked apps work perfectly fine.
I've tried removing and re-inserting SD card and also recreating mount scripts to no use.
What might be the possible causes of this problem???:crying:

"MediaStore"Issues / Music File Corruption

I have my ATT version SGS3 loaded with a 64GB microSD card and used iSyncr to transfer my entire library of about 13,000 songs from iTunes to the card (about 55 GB) on an Win 7 PC, including playlists.
Problem - When I call up a music player, it seems that about 200 songs are missing. If I look in file manager on the phone itself, I can see a bunch of files with zero size and a 1969 last modified date. I assumed they just got corrupted in the transfer. But when I plug my phone into my PC as a media device and look at Windows Explorer, I can only see the just some of the first artists folders (the ones that start with A and B) and none of the rest of them, even though the rest ARE visable on the phone though file manager and the music player. To further confuse the issue, when I take out my microSD card and plug it directly into the comoputer WITHOUT my phone, I see everything, AND the same files that have zero size in the file manager on the phone are perfectly fine on the card!
I'm sure this is just some issue with the "Mediastore" corruption (.e. ICS references all "real" media files by creating a shortcut entry in it's "mediastore" and that's what it exposes to the PC and players), but when I try to clear our all the data in the mediastore (Settings->Application Manager->All->Media Storage->Clear Data) and then reboot the phone and wait an hour+ for the media store to rebuild, it did NOT solve any of the issues described.
I can reformat the card and try to start again, but I was wondering if anyone else has any ideas at all what might be going on here?
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!
Does anyone have any thoughts on why this might be?
If your 64GB sd card was formatted in your phone or has the out of box format which is exFat, that's your problem. Many users are finding corrupt files because of this. Format your card to Fat32 and you'll be fine.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using XDA Premium HD app
Having similar problem with MediaMonkey and Windows Media player..
Will try FAT32 tonight.

However, data on the actual card is NOT corrupted if I read it directly in a microSD card reader. It only appears corrupted once I put it in the phone and look at it though the PC. I think it's because the Mediastore that ICS is creating is faulty, but I can't seem to clear the faulty media references.
So I don't think is a format thing. Anything else?
Still could be a exFat thing if the phone is being read through MTP.
This is a snip of what I posted in the other thread, but basically format your card to FAT32 and you can easily eliminate that problem.
Did some researching as to why Team Epic won't support exFAT. Found this page talking about how many OS's support only FAT32. Here's a link to that page: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm There is a Windows GUI to format it to FAT32 for drives larger than 32GB: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?guiformat.htm

No it's not a card format thing definately.
I did the following:
1) I formatting the card to FAT32 which wiped out all the data.
2) I refreshed the mediastore on the phone, and put the card back in and re-refreshed the mediastore
3) With the mediastore showing NO media on the sd card, I reloaded all 13,000+ songs from scratch using iScyncr
4) I looked at the SD card's content with the phone still plugged into my PC without Windows Explorer and everything was there and NOT corrupted at all.
5) I unplugged my phone, rebooted it and gave mediastore about an hour to refresh itself
6) I looked at the contents on my phone using a file manager on my phone and the SAME EXACT 200 or so files were corrupted and would not play. All had a 1969 file date and showed zero size, with strange double extensions like .mp4aS.mp4aa and similar
7) I plugged back in my phone to the PC and both Kies and Windows explorer could now only see the about 10% of the content cut off alphabetically (a's and most B statting artists)
8) I took the sd card OUT of the phone and plugged it into my PC directly using a card reader. Now I could see EVERYTHING and none of the files that were listed on my phone as corrupted were actually corrupted on the card, and the file extentions were all the normal .mp4 and would play correctly
9) I put the card back in my phone and tried various music players and all could see the same number of songs which EXCLUDED the 200 corrupted songs.
10)I tried copying one of the songs directly to the card from my PC and then transferring that copied song into the correct artist folder on the phone and THEN I could see the song in the phone's file manager.
So man - I'm now TOTALLY confused!! Any ideas from anyone?
EDIT: Seems like FAT32 might be working for me.. still testing.

Doubt it. Check your NUMBER of songs between source PC and your phone after the transfer.
I think the problem is with the mediastore on the S3, or maybe the syncronizer (iSyncr in my case). I'm gonna try to sync with Tunesync instead and see what happens. I still suspect it's the mediastore corrupting some of it's media referencing when things are copied, because the actal files themselves when referenced outside the phone are NOT corrupted, just the mediastore reference to them, which is the only thing the phone let's you view (in ICS at least).
The only way to find the number of files on the phone is by looking at the directory on windows. But the number of file match
5332 files

Memory card issues ever since ICS update

Hey everyone,
Ever since I upgraded my phone to ICS, the memory card is not writeable and I cannot delete any files. For example, if I try uploading an album, it will show up under my player, but a few moments later it will give me an error saying that files are not found. I try deleting an mp3 track through my player or My Files and it acts like it's been deleted, but will show up again some time after.
I figured it was an incompatibility issue with the ICS OS, so I tried formatting the card through the phone and that didn't work. I tried formatting it via My Computer and even used a program called HDD Low Level Format Tool, but to no avail.
The drive is recognized by my phone and my PC and plays the music and video files on it without a problem, so I don't think it's corrupt, but it's basically useless if I can't add or remove files. I tried chatting with Samsung Support, but the guy was as useless as tits on a nun.
Any ideas?
Can you put another sd card in your phone and test it? I've had 5 out of 10 sd cards die.
Nah, I'm afraid not.

[Q] Weird SD Card Issues

I've been having some strange things happening with my micro sd card lately. After flashing a CM9 glitch rom, I noticed that when I plug my phone into my pc with a usb cord, it shows two drives instead of just one. This has never happened to me before. I have also been having problems copying files from my pc to my phone and when I disconnect the cable the files are gone from the phone. I copied 2,000+ pics from my work pc to my phone and verified they copied correctly. When I got home all of the pics were gone as well as some ROMS I had just downloaded. I formatted my card with windows xp and then I did a 1 pass secure erase with CCleaner. When that was done, I erased the card from the phone itself. After the card was erased, my Titanium Backup folder was still there with all of my backups. Anyone else experienced these issues?
My card is a Samsung 16GB Class 4 HC and is a few years old
I know regular eraser programs like ccleaner, etc don't work properly on sd cards, (they only kind of move files around so they are not seen) look up sdformatter v4 and use that.
What ROM are you on right now

One other thing i can think of would be that the scanner would take a really long to re scan all those pics (like maybe 20 minutes or more from what I've read)

I tried taking a picture a minute ago and it said please insert an sd card to take a photo. The sd card was still in the phone. The only other thing I can think of is that maybe the phone isn't unmounting the card from the pc aproperly. I had my sd card open on the pc and could see all of my files and when I hit turn off usb storage I didn't see any other messages in the status bar and the files were not there
@Sippi4x4man
I know it sucks but you might need to try saving everything off the sd card again, formatting with sdformatter from your pc,, while still blank install, reboot, wait for ROM to settle in, take picture. Then if all goes well, connect up to the pc (i assume you use mass storage) then put files back on, disconnect from pc,,, reboot and wait the 20+ minutes for 2000+ pics to be scanned by the media scanner process. Hopefully that works
It is formatting now. We will see how it goes. Thanks!
Update: I ran sdformatter and did the overwrite and then format. When I turned usb storage off the ROM said my sd card was damaged. I used odin to go back to stock 2.3.6 and when I was done it was still saying sdcard damaged. I formatted the card from the phone itself and then flashed AOKP Milestone 5 Glitch and all seems to be working just fine. Thank you for your help.
