Is this a BUG on wm2003se version 2.06???? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Just wonderin if you guys noticed that sent items in sms messaging does not work or at least that's what i've experienced. Everytime i send a message, the "sent items" folder doesn't save any of my sent messages. What should i do to make this work? Is 1.72 better?
Also just wanna know how to extract from a .exe file. i tried winrar and winzip bt it won't work since it says "No archives found in selected files and folders." Can someone please tell me how to extract these files. TNX!

Check this:
go to Messaging - Tools - Options and check the option "Keep copy of sent mail in Sent folder"

Help with small problem, password protect.

While playing (a bit too much), I must have deleted the password setup icon/file from settings and cannot change or disable the password screen. Anyone knows what the file name is and can post it here or email me the file. I know the password and can get in but I really don't need it and would like to disable it.
The shortcut is exactly like this:
"ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1"
>> without "" quotes

Thanks ezzkht, but how do I create the shortcut?
Try to copy any shortcut from \windows\start menu\programs\
and paste it to the location you want, rename it & edit it using Total Commander (right-click on it & choose Properties, then go to Shortcut tab and change the TARGET parameter to "ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1" without quotes.
The icon will automatically change to the password icon

Sorry ezzkht, I did exactly what you said but it did not work. Tried with and without quotes, tried 0 instead of 1 but the icon never changes to the password icon just an executable icon but nothing happens when I click on it.
OH yes you are right!! sorry!
Ok here's the shortcut, I just get it from my device..
I opened it with a HEX editor & found the following line inside it:
51#ctlpnl.exe cplmain.cpl,1?\Windows\cplmain.cpl,-6000
plz tell me if it worked with you
Hi ezzkht, I tried but this also does not seem to work.
I checked the registery and their is a mention of a Password.cpl in the Windows directory which is not in mine. I installed logologin and picturepassword and have recently removed them, don't know if they might have also removed this file. It may be the the problem, do you have this file.
Neither me, I don't have password.cpl file in \windows directory!!
I have cplmain.cpl only!
I noticed that the password link points to cplmain.cpl with a parameter of : password.cpl
I guess that cplmain.cpl is a composite file which contains alot of programs, one of them is the password program!
Do u have the cplmain.cpl in windows directory??

Thanks ezzkht, this was good but it still did'nt work. I think somewhere their is a file missing. I will try emailing MS and see if they have an answer.
You welcome, but I did nothing!!

You got that right, finally got all the programs and the look I want. I am going to do a backup via Activsync and a clone backup tonight at home then if all else fails I will do a HR, copy any missing files from the windows directory and reinstall my backups.
Seems a great idea
Compare the two WINDOWS directories, and copy only the missing files..
Good luck dude

[APP]Using a different SMS application

After some tests, I've seen that the unique way to use an alternative program to view SMSes, even from "All messages" on Manila2D, is to replace tmail.exe... but after that some things no more work well, such email, activesync, etc.
I decided then to build a little HiJack to put over the original tmail.exe, that when we try to view SMSes it executes a link, while for ohter operations starts the original one.
tmail_hijack_1_0_0_0
Use:
1. make a copy of \windows\tmail.exe in \windows\tmailm.exe
2. overwrite the old tmail.exe with the new one
3. create in the \windows directory a link to the program we want to use for the SMSes view, and name it tmailsms.lnk
if everythink is right, when you press on "All messages" the new program will open up, while all the rest remains as is

You are right... I hope that somebody find a way do do it ... I created a copy by extracting it from the ROM image with Ervius kitchen (or any other kitchen able to make a dump)
Try closing tmail.exe using a Task manager before overwriting it with Resco Explorer or total Commander.

Sorry, have not enought time lately... to replace tmail.exe you have to rename it to whatever you want, and only after reboot you can delete the renamed copy... but place the new tmail.exe right after you renamed the old one, BEFORE reboot the device, otherwise a new protected copy of the old one comes out.

No, its not the same: vjbrisk starts the program you linked, stop. This starts the program you linked OR the old one, based on the parameters it receives.
But, there are some situations on reboot that starts tmail with the same parameter (-service "SMS") and load the linked program on reboot (unwanted) but I have no time to check if its solvable.

Hey mate I cannot rename mine for some reason, it is checked as in rom in Total Commander and if I try rename it its either access denied or tmail.exe will just revert back straight after, does anyone know how I can remove this from a ROM or make it change its name as I have tried everything bar the latter? Thanks!

Okay I managed to resolve my problem, if anybody is wondering how, get Total commander and rename Tmail.exe (even if the file doesn't rename) get the Vijay program (this Tmail didn't work due to not being able to get the name changed) then drag the Vijay program into the Windows folder. From there rename it to tmail.exe (so know you have two) then reset the device. From there then edit the .lnk's and you now have SMS chat for your SMS (and messaging which this program can fix if anybody can change it).

[Q] Titanium Backup location

I want to change the backup folder in Titanium to my external SD card. The Titanium site says to do the following:
-Open the Titanium Backup settings (MENU -> Preferences)
-For the Android 2.2/Froyo ROM (or the Cognition ROM on a Samsung Captivate), set the "Backup folder name" to external_sd/TitaniumBackup
When I open Settings and preferences the closest thing I see is the "Backup folder location". When I open that, it tells me where it's backing up to, but the only options I have are "Detect", "Use the current folder" and "Cancel". Am I missing something?
Try using external_sd/TitaniumBackup for the backup folder name. Then reboot. Works great for me!
Don't forget to hit the Thanks Button!

You need to navigate up one folder. When you are on the screen w/ the Detect button, hit the back button and then you should be able to scroll down to external_sd. (I know, it's completely weird and I have no idea why TB would do this.)
That has got to be the most counter intuitive thing I've ever seen. Thanks.
I agree totally weird! Thanks for advice here though as I was stuck too....
This post was very helpful. thank you.
Candle in the dark...
I've just spent 2 hours looking for this solution. THANKS.
Somebody needs to sync the program and the Wiki 'cause they don't match
Awesome I was looking for this too thanks

When u click on "backup folder location" in the preferences menu, it has a box for "detect", and at the bottom of the window, it says, "use the current folder" and "cancel". When u open the window, next to the "detect" box, it will show the default file path, and folder name that the app is set to save ur backup to, which should say something along the lines of, "/mnt/sdcard/", etc. Just press ur back key, and it will take u backwards through ur file locations.Just press the back key on ur phone until u get to the path name that starts with "/mnt", then u can scroll down and click on the folder named, "sdcard-ext", they inside that folder, u can click on "create new folder". Name it "TB Backup File", or whatever it is u want it to say. Easy as that. Any questions, please feel free to ask
Titanium Backup directory location
On my Galaxy S II Skyrocket, which had a MicroSD card installed prior to installing TB, the app shows a default backup location of:
/mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup
If it's of any interest, when viewing the SD card using KiesAIR (a fantastic app, by the way), the TB's settings and config location shows as:
/sdcard/external_sd/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/settings
I was really confused on the way to change the folder location.
The tip really helped me to solve,.. I almost thought I wasted my money on buying Titanium Backup Pro..
Worked!

You might have gtalk disabled with data.
Do this
1. Download SQLight editor from the market
2. If you don't have a good file manager also get Root Explorer from the market.
3. After both are installed - use Root Explorer to browse to /data/data/com.google.android.gsf/databases/gservices.db and click on it
4. Now click on "main"
5. Scroll down to gtalk_vc_wifi_only - highlight and hold
6. Press "Edit Record" and change the "value" to false instead of true

Text Message Meta Data Question

I received a Text message sent from an E-Mail and I was wondering if it was possible to find the individual file on the filesystem holding the metadata for the E-Mail.
If so, would I have to root the phone? And where would that file be located?
I'm a techie, so no need to warn me that I could hurt my phone or files - I'm only looking to READ, not WRITE, and I'd be making a copy of that file beforehand anyways and porting it to a PC in order to check it with whatever program is necessary to decrypt (Probably only need a hex editor, but if someone knows better, feel free to pass that information along, too )
Anyways, is it possible?
Thank you for your time.

You can get access to system files by using a file manager. To edit files, you need to root your phone.
If it is *.txt attachment that was attached in that mail, go to downloads and look for it.
Now, serious. Why so serious?
If you are looking to decompile that mail app, use APKTOOL to decompile. Search on xda for the links. :good:
The apk file can be found on the device in: /system/app/ here
If the apk file is odexed, then you have to first deodex it to make it as one apk file Search on xda for the tutorials. :good:
If you are asking to decrypt mails, ask NSA   :silly:
I am a newbie here. So I don't know where that file is located exactly.
Press thanks if I have helped you.

Just to reiterate, the person sent me a TEXT. I open my text app and I read their text. I want to find the file containing that exact text. (Extra info, info you don't really need to know and MAY have confused you: The text was sent via an E-Mail... Meaning they logged into their E-Mail, typed my phone number, and my phone received a TEXT from that E-Mail address straight to my SMS inbox). I'm not sure if I was clear enough on that. But I am trying to open an SMS sent straight to my phone AS IF from another phone.
What did you mean why so serious? I'm just trying to seem professional in my question. Hate to confuse people. Also: Decrypying a file should a) not be necessary, but MAY be (still highly doubt it), and B) Does not require NSA lol. I can do it myself, and if not, I've got a buddy who could do it for sure. But ALL I'M TRYING TO GET is the "metadata" from the SMS that'll HOPEFULLY give me the metadata for the E-Mail.
Thanks for your time.
Solution
I think I have found a solution to your problem.
This is the absolute path to SMS and MMS DB on most android devices:
/data/data/com.android.providers/telephony/databases/mmssms.db
It is the file where these messages are stored.
I don't own this device but still I have posted the screen shots
I think you get what I am trying to say.
Press thanks if I helped
