I sold an old XDA to a friend, which was in perfect condition. However, a few days later he sent me this email. Do you guys have any tips for diagnosis when I take it back?
I left it off all night last night (waited a whole night before pressing the hard reset button a second time). But when i inseted the SIM card today it was still telling me that "the phone is off. Turn it on and try again." I keep pressing the green phone button and it either doesn't react, or tells me 'operation failed' or it just hangs. It also hangs if i want to get into the phone settings.
All this happened after I changed some connection settings and i said 'yes'
when it asked me if i wanted to soft reset to update the settings. sigh.

Is it possible he changed the band setting to 900/1900 in the phone settings? I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
Please help him (and me) get this XDA back into working order! Thanks

He could try entering bootloader, reset and power switch at same time, then push the button below the antenna, choose his gsm freqency from there. He could also try clicking the signal icon at top right of screen and switch it on from there. Also are you sure he is doing a hard reset, this is carried out by inserting the top half of unscrewed stylus in the hole below the headphone socket, push once, wait a minute, push once more.
why not try to do a hard-reset!

Hi, my SX56 got a strange problem. Every time after turn off the pda for one hour, then turn on again, radio becomes disconnected, and top icon shows it is searching, but never find anything.
And screen can not light on by tapping the screen or press button. And PDA cpu seems very busy, everything becomes very slow. top left power off button becomes of no use.
both soft reset and boot loader fail, hang at GSM checking stage.
Push batter disconnect button at lower right can make the pda (and radio) working normal again. but all data lost.
Anyone have a clue what happened? is my hardware has problem?
Try operating your xda with a different sim for a day, you may have a dodgy sim card.
it is fully charged (led is green when it is in cradle) but when I press power buton nothing happens. What is the problem? Please help. I am new to it, so hope for help of good friends here.

if you by this mean that you press the tip of your stylus into the hole in the left part of button of the xda once then yes
then try to turn it on using the turn on / off button
I tried, but it did not turn on, when I put it to cradle led is green, but when I get it out of cradle I do not see any light on led. I tried to power it on pushing that button, but nothing happens
is anybody able to help me?
If it neither works in the cradle or on battery power then I would suspect a component on the charging circuit has died or your battery is kaput, by doing a reset it should switch on automatically.
but holding power button and doing soft reset I could get to wallaby bootloader, so battery does work. any other suggestions?
If holding power and rest works then the power button is functional, have you attempted to flash the xda before this happened? What happens if you push the green telephone button bottom left of your xda? Have you tried a hard reset, using the unscrewed top half of stylus to push once in the tiny hole bottom right of xda, leave for 1 minute then push once more. You will lose all data but your data isnt much good if you cant switch on.
yes, I tried to hard reset it several times, but had no result. now I am trying to wait for several minutes during hard reset. when I press green button - nothing happens. I did not try to flash my XDA before those problems appeared. no it did not turn on even after 5 minutes... :-( please help!!!!
I had installed KSE TrueFax 2 and this power issue happened to me. Could not switch it on at the XDA at all, and had to so a soft-reset to get it to switch on. After I uninstalled the fax sowftware, everything worked okay again.
so you can power phone on pressing button and dping soft reset. yes? what do you see? wallaby bootloader? what to do next to run operational system? I just see 4 color stripes and below GSM OK, that is all, what should I press?
dmjass, it seems to me that you have lost or corrupted your rom, if you havent been flashing the xda its beyond me why this should happen. I would download a new rom, not radio stack, just the rom and use the sd card method of flashing, this should restore your system if the hardware is all ok, you have a working bootloader and an intact gsm stack so give it a try as you have nothing to lose by doing this.
I think trying to do the SD-card ROM update is your best bet as well.
If it turns out that you cannot get your unit running again, I would be interested in purchasing it for testing purposes and replacement parts.
Good luck!

thank you friends for your advices, but please let me know how to perform flashing rom by sd card. I will appreciate all your help, please describe that process in details. ok? thank you.
PDA bad ROM?
I am experiencing the same problem after having dropped it off my belt clip. Now the unit just says "Welcome to T---Mobile, G324e4 // R6.25.02 // 4.01.16 and none of the buttons work except for the boot stylus ones. Can anyone help?
Hi
Unfortunately I was in the middle of upgrading the software to version 172181 when I decided, for some strange reason, to pick the phone up out of the cradle and make a call. DOH!
I can no longer get the phone to boot up / turn on it is just stuck on the low light o2 backscreen and shows
r 1.17.00
g 1337.20
d 1.72.00wwe
Im quite literally just stuck on that screen, the phone wont seem to reset, reboot or hard reset or turn on or off.
I assume im doing the hard reset correctly on/off button and reset button with stylus.
I did see somewhere to use the on/off button, camera button, record button and reset button with stylus but this does not appear to work either.
I don't know whether the condition is terminal or not but anyone can help i would really appreciate it I have a lot of information on there that is very valuable to me.

would you happen to know if there is any way I can manage my contacts from the pc? i searched activesync and there appears to be nothing there. My old motorola bought up kind of a virtual phone on the pc and managing and adding contacts was easy.

It's bcoz the flashing/upgrading/installing of ur fone seems not to be finished. Always follow instruction. If you really want to do something, think twice so you never messed up. nweiz, try to load it again in bootup mode and re-flash it. there are a lot of ROM for the Himalaya, you can download one. Try to search. again, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS!
So here's a peculiar incident:
I have a CDMA TP with a stock ROM and a few basic apps I gathered from these forums and others. I've had it for less than a week.
Tonite, I went to check my text messages. Suddenly, the screen went black and the phone stopped responding. After pressing the power button and fiddling with the keys, I pulled out the stylus and did a soft reset. No response. Confused by this, I tried again, but still nothing. I removed the battery, and turned the phone back on. It froze at the "Touch Pro" screen with the rom/radio/etc info at the bottom. After repeating this a few times I decided to do a hard reset. So, I turn the device on and perform the hard reset. By this point the TP is only turning on SOME TIMES, and I have to take the battery out and put it back in often just to get it to start successfully. So, I finally get the device to boot up and it starts to configure WinMo. Suddenly, while configuring, it freezes. Now I try to turn it back on, and nothing happens.
Basically the device is stuck like this, shifting between not turning on at all and turning on but freezing at the "Touch Pro" screen.
So, my question is, what the heck is going on here? Has anyone else had this problem, or does this sound familiar to anyone? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
p.s. Yes, the battery is fully charged.

Time to take it in and get a new one.....
Same problem here phone started b not coming out of lock mode. Backlight is on but no display on screen (if i tilt the screen left and right i can see light coming from behind) did about 6 hard resets and still same problem. also power button works whenever it wants to. this phone sucks @ss, i want my mogul back. on a second note my replacement will be here on wednesday.
Touch Pro stock rom purchased back in nov when it came out
yeah, i've had the same problem, i found if i hit my phone on the back or side and then batter pull and hit the soft reset while off, not the power button to turn it back on, it comes back on with color on the screen not just blank black screen with backlight, this works mostly every time, but when it doesn't, i just hold the power button down and do battery pull and hit the power button and it works, its like its got a combo of things you have to do before it works.. weird
Boot Up
I have also had similar problems. I for some reason sometimes have to remove my SD card and boot up without it for some reason. Not all the time, but every once in a blue moon. Not too sure how that affects anything, but you may try that too.
well i started a thread here ***help*** because i kinda have the same problem.
i downloaded some cabs, nothing fancy but i had some problems with a theme i downloaded. when i went to deleted i couldnt..... to make a story short, i took it to the sprint store where they tried to do a master reset/ hard reset and it wont take it. it wont do a thing... they say some important files are missing...
the phone works but not the way it should... the time on the home screen wont show up. and some other small things...
dont know how this happened but i would like to know... im worried about new programs to the phone now. ( getting a new one)
still want to see if i can fix this one.

Have you tried re flashing the ROM?
it wasnt HTC's fault for your phone's not booting...thats what happens when u try to mess with the hardware too much and you dont know what your doing
Would you want to sell???
Reboot Brick HTC process
****DOn't take battery out after hard boot***
1.just watch videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sk56olMkCtU and do what they do but dont take battery out. LEAVE phone STUCK on BOOT screen. Nothign else will move or work but you want phone just like that.
2. connect usb cable to active sync. (this may not link up but leave usb connected anyhow) Do not delete phone profile.
3.use rom like Download MightyROM6_Herman.exe avail at: http://www.lilrico.com/Mighty/mightyromblog/?p=454
4 although active sync is still attatched but may not be connecting. It will connect thru usb anyway when you run the rom software. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV2I2WAFkg4&NR=1
This worked and kept phone from cutting on and off. and restored ROM. don't know about original htc boot. but your phone will work under this rom for now and you can go from there.
hey thanks plain ole dumb, it works now.
man I thought it was over.
thanks again
So by accident I launched a CHT file from my SD Card which essentially crashed sense. No biggie, did a hard reset and thought I would be okay.
Wrong.
When I hold down the end key (to either load johcos' end key or even if i uninstall it) my screen is dead. The hard keys work, but not the screen.
Anyone have a suggestion? I have been using tmo-us stock rom without problems until yesterday when this started. I realize I could flash a new rom and maybe it is time...but tis very annoying this is happening after a hard reset.
Thanks.
still not working after flashing energy rom
argh.
flashed energy.
same problem.
now have to work...but any suggestions? my long hard key is dead and freezes my phone. hard reset/ new rom did nothing.
thanks.
same with android
so now anytime my phone goes to lock screen the screen stops functioning though the hardkeys work just fine.
thought i would try android and be savvy...but wrong.
same problem.
any ideas? i am ready to take a hammer to this damn thing...
This recently happened to my GF's phone, She said she was just playing a game one day, it froze so she popped the battery out and rebooted. Now every time she uses the End/Power ( red ) hard button to shutoff or wake up the device, the screen stays locked and won't respond.
I have tried soft reset, hard reset, different lock screens and what not. The only solution I found, besides sending it in, is to let the screen shut off by itself, and then wake it up with the Call/Send ( green ) hard button.
You can also try using the End/Power hard button to lock it, but then as long as you wake it with the Call/Send hard button it should be fine.
It has worked every time now. Try it and see if it helps! It's a little annoying but it saves money and insurance!
Going to repost this in all those previous listed threads to see if it helps anyone else.
Good Luck!
