So, after what 2 years? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Now, with the best comparisons of the 2002 and 2003 rom images, what for English devices is the most stabile.
The reason for the question is that successively after different images some with extra software themes etc, some with nothing, my ppc is now randomly soft booting when I hit the power button to lock it, or even after calls and such.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated..

The best PPC2002 image is 3.17.03 IMO. quiet stable (I've had a few instant soft resets anyway), but...it's PPC2002, no pda/phone volume, no speakerphonet etc.
For WM2003: 4.01.12 O2 if you have a PWA10A1 (I'm using this: very-very stable, fast), and 4.01.16 if you have a PWA10B1 device. NOTE: WM2003 has a bug that can wipe out your SD-card (you'll lose all your data). I'm currently using my SD card locked in my XDA...

Major Bugs in T-Mobile Rom 1.6

Good morning to all of you from snowy Germany,
I'd like to introduce myself as former user of a MDA I who upgraded to MDA II in November.
Like many of you I lived through all (officially) published ROM upgrades offered by T-Mobile. Now, after having upgraded the MDA II to 1.6, I finally ask myself one question:
Do you think (as a member of XDA developers), that there is one single person on manufacturers side who is actually testing wether these ROM upgrades work and if yes, to which extend?
Here is my experience with 1.6 ROM:
First I changed my today screen to Windows Standard, but decided to like the T-Mobile screen better in the end. After reactivating T-Mobile screen the dropdown menu appears with white letters on white background. Only fix: cold reset :-(
Worst bit: any calendar or tasks notification is displayed with the known blinking red LED, but no matter what you do the LED goes on blinking forever (even if event is confirmed or deleted). No matter wether preset blinking time is unlimited or 15 minutes, the only way to stop it is again a: reset. If you are using your calendar notifications frequently for business, you end up resetting your device up to 10 times or more every day :-(
Again I have noticed that there are too many applications simultaniously launched and some of them are REALLY useless. Top ranking in wasting resources is CALLER ID. This program is causing so many problems that one have to wonder why there is no option to delete it from the operating system.
I'd like to know what your experiences are with MDA II (or similar) and I would higly appreciate any suggestions how to solve the mentioned bugs.
Beside these bugs, the MDA II is a very nice device with high engineering and build quality.
With kind regards
Joe
I have also the german t-mobile MDA2, i upgraded to t-mobile NL and 2 days later upgraded back to the new t-moble rom release, so everything is back to german, and I have none of your problems as stated above. I suggest you re-load the rom again, my MDA2 is proving itself a very steady work-made, even battery life is good, get a good days work from it,
However to be sure , i orderd an extra battary (just in case)
IA Caller ID
You can delete IA Caller ID, as well as some other programms you do not need from the Extended ROM and it will never bother you again. You have to know that after deletion you will have to do Hard Reset.
Also you can delete FlashMans from the Start Up folder - you will see how faster it will be (requires Soft Reset).
And go to http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/ppc_cn_overview.html - this will clean duplicate proccesses on your MDA II.
For sure all of this you have to do on your own risk, but there are a lot of instructions how to do that.
Contact me if you need a help with it.
Flashmans... actually I don't know what they do. Any harm removing them from Startup?
Flashman
I believe that the flashman processes are related to the 'Permanent Save' feature. If you do not use this, you can remove them from the startup folder.
I have removed (or rather moved) the following entries:
AFlashMan
BTIcon
CFlashMan
IA_Caller_ID
NFlashMan
Orange Support
stk
TFlashMan
This gives me the ability to have Activesync + 3-4 apps running in parallel.

Michael

Home cooked extended rom files for Windows 2003 SE

Hi,
Running w2k3se 2.06 wwe for a day now. Looks quite stable. As this is intrim build (in between dcs and CHS version) there are bound to be bugs.
Most have noted camera failing the landscape. I think it would be better if we can list the bugs so that we can try to solve them.
I found many of the bugs cropped if we used older external rom files with w2kse .
Good that many of us are coming out with home cooked extended rom files. The big problem is to find which of these files are better and which are not.
Let me give you example MIDI56.sa.CAB give a better performance than MIDI561.sa.CAB. And rember the cleartype of 1.60 to 1.72 and so on.
The other problem with cooked extrom is that 70-80% file are same in many of them with very few new files. I am on dialup and it takes quite a bit of time to down load 6MB file just to get a customised cab. Also the server will have that much of load.
So my sugestion is we need a repository of file which are included in extrom. Why not seperate the cab files and just publish their customised config.txt in the post.
I think we need to create a thread of only those files. Suggestion are welcome.

OK! Lets starrt the ball rolling.
Noted the followings for v2.06 ROM posted by mystery man:-
1) Sometimes the bluetooth icon on the Today screen would mysteriously disappear. Worst case is when the Today Settings don't even have the Bluetooth Profile although the blue light is blinking.
2) The camera menu got stuck in landscape mode after repeated switching from portrait-to-landscape and vice versa. Soft reset could not resolve the problem. However, after some time of use the problem automatically resolves itself.
"The phone is not ready. Wait 15 seconds then try again"
This is when accessing the phone icon in the settings menu, or when trying to send an sms message.

same here the Today Screen BT will play games with em
hi,
few more bugs on 2.06
1. After playing around with landscpae and portrait several times, phone would loose last two rows of buttons both in landscape as well as potrait mode. Soft reset corrected it.
2. MMS composer is not started if you choose from programs, but this can be bypassed by going to the outlook and start coposing.
If you notice startup folder of w2k3se several of the w2k3 startup programs are missing. Is that why SE is faster and I noticed my battery now lasts longer than W2K3 ;-)

This is something I've always seen if trying to access any of the phone's advanced functionality right after a reset, even with my old XDA.
This is akin to trying to access phone numbers on ye olde ubiquious nokia phone SIM card right after turning on.

Applications conflicting with WM2003SE 2.06-mystery man

Hi everyone,
I would like to kick start a thread for any application installed in the latest SE rom by mystery man. The rom seem stable nevertheless some apps seem do not really prepared for the changes. (i mean from WM2003 to WM2003SE). Let begins........
1) Battery Pack Pro v1.11-will make your today screen screwed up. How? Go Start-Settings-Today-Items-then click OK and closed it-you will get what i meant here.
Will continue to report.......
Best Rgds...
Wisbar advance freezes and requires soft reset after telephone has been used/or whilst attempting to dial.
XCPU Skalar - you have to update to version 3.85, lower version keeps system to hang
Tillanosoft Pockettweak - update to 4.2.7, lower version destroys font settings
PocketZenPhone - update to latest beta 11 version, older versions are not able to switch phone on again
Can someone tell me what is the function of "Today timeout" which constantly showed 4hrs at Start-Setings-Today?
Well why must that function included in the today settings? The problem is now and then my today screen showed nothing or clean even though i unchecked the Today timeout box to disable it.
After all i suspect something is not right wif the Today timeout option and nothing to do wif Battery Pack.
Anyone experience the above problem?
Calligrapher 7.4 (just only 7.4 ,older not has this problem)
after i install and use for 15 sec. ,then screen is locked up cannot tap anymore but Button still work.
I do soft reset and disable it then 15 sec ,screen lock again.
Only one way to solve it by using cradle sync with desktop and select remove calligrapher and then soft reset ,it will work normally again.
It may from defect in version 7.4 or conflict with XDA II.
PLease take care ,if you decide to use this version
Problems with SE (both dcs's & mysteryman)
Hey there guys!
I used this weekend (in fact starting friday evening) to upgrade my T-Mobile MDA2 from ROM 1.72 (radio 1.14) to ROM 2.xx and radio 1.18.
Although I did a lot of reflashing up to now - I want to thank you all guys for this forum, because everything I've learnt about my PPC is from here. It is shame that I cannot contribute via paypal because Bulgaria is not included in their country list.
Now.. Here is what I've experienced with my mda:
I upgraded from 1.72 T-Mobile WWE to 2.02ti... All cool - until I started to load the device with programs. I mean - it is cool and fast and nice and colorful..
A guy mentioned that SE boots faster - I can's say that - the phone would show the first boot picture, then fast will change to 2nd and then (in 2 to 5 seconds) the bluetooth led will flash (if at all) at least 5 times and then it shows the today screen or will stay there forever :-(
I understood that:
* xscallar 2.8x would not work - it freezes the system;
* sbp pocketplus 2.1 would hang the system or/and the today screen;
* sprite backup 3.0 hard-resets the system (3 in 2 times after finishing scheduled/normal backup);
* gprs monitor 2.12 would hang the today screen;
* cleartype is a way worse than in 1.60wwe
* if the system works, compared to 1.72 - it is flying! but :-(....
These problems appeared both in 2.02ti and in 2.06, no matter what extended rom I install (if I install any at all - because thru tears I tried that one too ;-) )
The (X) sign for closing programs disappears constantly and some programs could not be closed or [ok]'d :-(
Bluetooth 1.5x would either not work properly or would not work at all.
about the extended rom - i noticed this:
MMS15024_WWE_Hima_OzUp.sa.CAB, despite the lower version compared to MMS2.0.0.13 incorporates in the outlook folder and doesn't take additional space in the today screen. Also it provides sending restrictions as 100K, 200K, MAX - ;-) which is kewl 'cause I missed the ability of my SonyEricsson P900 to send unlimited in size MMS messages.
CallerIDB10, provided with 2.x SE versions cuts about 4 pixels from the bottom of the CLIP pictures and I don't like it - it has no new features or anything
For conclusion:
I liked the look of SE versions - it is really neat and fast - when it works.
But non of my really needed sofware would work as expected.
I went back to T-Mobile 1.72 (edsub's version) and I will tell you guys - there is nothing as stable and fast as it is.
This is my first post here, and I read this forum for more than 8 months. You guys rock!
Yours,
Dean

I had a big problem with 2.06-mystery man . Stuck on the every second
boot . So I had to do Hard Reset all the time.
After that I switched to 2.02 and all I can say its the most stable ROM
I know from 1.60 .
The reason I am posting here is :
NO PROBLEM WITH Battery Pack Pro v1.11 on the ROM 2.02.t1WWE .

I've notices that 2.06 sometimes freeses during boot when SD-card is inserted. It boots normally when SD-card is out and inserted when device finishes booting.
Cleartype in 2.06 can be tuned to look fine with cleartype tuning tool from Microsoft. I can upload it if needed.

Probably , probably , probably
Spb PocletPlus 2.1 is stable in my 2.06SE. The problem i encountered is the unstable widcomm bluetooth stack ( 1.5.0.801 ) which always "could not correctly initialized - BTTrayCE.exe) . can some one post some registry tweak for this?
@ mamaich
can you post the MS cleartype tuning tool please? thanks!
Phone Profiles is another one....
Using Phone Profiles 7.5 or 8.0, there is a dialog on reboot, 'Can't Find Window", (something like that), and it will not continue booting, only solution is a hard reset...
I can confirm the Calligrapher 7.4... will lock during boot, hard reset

Mine is working fairly well... I did notice the same problem you have, but I got around it by holding in the reset button until it reset itself (normally 5 secs or so). It resets fine every time. This is a pain compared to 1.66.00WWE. I haven't tried 1.72 yet. I would like to persist with the 2.06 version to see what bugs it has.
Recrem...
UPDATE:- Installing XCPUScalar Version 2.85 has completely cleared up the reset hang problem. I have configured it to auto start on soft reset, and minnimise on start. I have now reset well over 10 times and it resets as it should. I have XCPUScalar set to a min speed of 400MHz though...
I have only one problem with wm2003se 2.06 - at every call speaker mode turns on automaticly

Yeap i encountered this problem too. Any solution so far? Or shall i reflash my rom to dcs one 2.02? Would it solve this problem?
Anyone pls HELP......
My list of problematic programs in SE
1. Mamaich's "Contact Button", which I miss dearly.
2. Pocket Zen Phone.
3. BTtools freeze Today screen. (not needed for functional purposes, only used to turn BT off automatically)
4. Still have to use EzWAP for MMS
5. Camera switch screen back to Portrait.

Which is your most stable WM2003SE ROM?

Hi guys,
After so many sleepless nights in configuring the WM2003 rom for your ppc, now its the time for you to determine your most stable rom.
If possible kindly tell us the reason why you opted so!!!
Well I'm running 2.02 from dcs, the first and only upgrade i've tried because basically, it works.
I have an Orange SPV M1000 with the orange extrom upped by djms?. Like i said, i've had no problems with this so i ain't changing until we can get either an offical SE release or until Mamaich can complete his Chineese rom translation.
If i had to mention anything, the only slight niggle is the bluetooth headset today plugin disappearing from time to time, but a simple click of the start menu brings it back.
Any other thoughts .....

Thats common but dont you think that there are more bugs in dcs rom?
1) Ugly cleartype font (unless u dun cleartype it)
2)Loud speaker phone bug.
Have u voted the best rom for you, if yes...well done
bluetooth headset today plugin disappearing from time to time
happen to both version 2.02ti & 2.06
but not 2.20CHS
&
No Loud speaker phone bug
Running BT (on ) for full day, received/maked 15+calls at night battery still got 70% and above
wat bout battery consumption/ i read in one post, that the battery consumption is more compared to the 1.72 ROM series...
is that true? is it a noticable difference? thats the only reason i have not yet upgraded yet from the 1.72 ROM.
currently, my device lasts one full day...about 12 hrs., including GPRS usage. i dont use bluetooth at all. If i can get more or less the same usage from the new rom, then i would take the effort to upgrade.
In any case, from all the various versions running around, can people tell us about the battery usage?

Hi mani,
I guess your post is best to be at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13698
So that u r not off-topic here.
This thread is strictily for those already upgraded to WM2003SE. Nevertheless you still got the option to vote which is apparently "None" at the poll question.
No hard feeling but pls dun put irrelevant topic here....
Good Luck
Here is what I found out
General pros of both versions compared to 1.72
- Faster boost
- Nicer Icons
- Rotatble Screen (that's why we all upgraded in the first place )
2.02 Cons
- Loud Speaker (you probably won't need speaker phone ever)
- Screen Scrumble (this happens when you scroll up and down while in landscape mode)
- Voice calls will be cut dead once the device is turned off, esp. when you're on power saving mode (my initial reaction was to press my fingers at the screen to keep it alive and to prolong my conversation)
2.06 Cons
- Some applications in the extended rom will completely kill the phone functionality and hang the screen IF soft-reset is ever performed while in landscape mode. You can refer to my suspected lists at http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=73207#73207
- Seems to me that ClearType is much better in portrait than in landscape mode.
- Screen Scrumble resolved
General Cons of both versions
- Some of the today plugin programs are so fond of playing hide&seek (esp. BT profile). Refreshing the today screen mitigate this issue.
- Uninstalling some incompatible programs such as Widcomm BT Stack can permanently mute the system sounds (incl. incoming rings)
- Some says power consumption is fast (I don't really notice the difference, it might dry up faster for me but only because I was playing more with it  )
Cheers,[/url]
Hi ken,
Good review. Do continue your findings and let everyone of us know!
Thanks
plus and minus
I know it is not nice to re-post but it seems to me that the most important thread is now dead, so I will post it here:
Hey there guys!
Few days ago I shared with you my disappointment with both 2.02t and 2.06 versions because both seemed really unstable. My ppc was constantly freezing, would boot for 1 minute if at all, bluetooth problems and such, soft and hard resets 3-5 times a day
I decided to go back to 1.72WWE (edsub's one) and it went well. But then all of a sudden all the problems continued - soft/hard resets. I really didn't know what has happened. I am not quite sure but I think that except for the last re-flash the cradle was not connected to a power supply, but only to a powered USB port. All the times the main battery was fully charged - something i've learnt as a must when flashing gsm phones.
My original configuration was 1.72WWE, Radio 1.14 and all the times I upgraded to either radio 1.17 or 1.18.
Two days ago I decided for the last time to try again with 2.06 but with radio version 1.14 - the one included in the original file (fyu I used the mysteryman WindowsMobile2003SE.exe and didn't touch anything but the operator ID in ms.nbf.
I flashed my MDA2 (I don't know why but this time the upgrade took LESS TIME than my previous attempts or at least I think so), hard-reseted it, allowed the Extended ROM 2.06.100a to install and as it contains only win2k3SE compatible software it was no issue (callerIDb10, cameraB10, clearvue3.4.381 and mms1.5.0.24)
Cleartype fonts are fine. I removed the built-it MS Bluetooth stack (deleting all the keys in the registry) and installed widcomm's 1.5 and it works just fine. I installed Netfront, spb 2.2 plus, gprs monitor 2.1, weather panel, icq, resco explorer 2003, resco keyboard 4.21, phonExt. Screen rotates in less than a second. As of this moment - everything is just STABLE.
The only thing is the soft-reset boot. Sometimes it takes 5 seconds, sometimes it takes 15. The "Phone not ready" appeared only once when I tried to access the phone options, but I guess it was because the gsm part was not registered yet with the network or something with my 64k stk SIM card.
I would suggest you all - not to cook a special extended rom but install the mystery man's update without any changes (except the operator/language ids). Then install anything you need. Avoid to install programs not designed for SE. It didn't hurt in my case to put 2 items on the today screen that are not se-compatible - but who knows.
Because I didn't know how to make myself an installable .CAB file for my operator settings (like MMS, GPRS internet i.e.) I just extracted those things from my registry in a .reg file and after a hard-reset I just run the .reg file and it is all there (resco file explorer needed of course) - this includes: RAS settings for MMS, INTERNET, MMS server settings for the mms-application, Device Name, bluetooth profiles, paired devices list, all of my phonext ringtone settings, timezone, etc...
Now my device shows:
ROM: 2.06.00WWE (14-JUNE-2004)
RADIO: 1.14.00
PROTOCOL: 1337.24
ExtROM: 2.06.100a
Windows Mobile 2003 SE
ver. 4.21.1088 (Build 14132)
T-Mobile MDA2
MMC 256MB Transcend
Bluetooth widcomm 1.5.0.108
Yours,
Dean
p.s. My opinion is: the best way to flash is to use a notebook/laptop or ups'd pc - to prevent power loss during the upgrade. To use powered USB port. Not to touch the PC while the upgrade goes on. And to disable ActiveSync for searching usb connection - all things from the dsc's post.
Loud Speaker Problem
The Loud Speaker Problem is on all the threee versions.
It will occur perpetually after running some apps. e.g. Screen rotate or Calendar.
Cheers

I am using 2.06 with registry tweaks from 2.02t1. It is stable, with good handsfree enabled (faster transfer to G2 headset, last call re-dial etc).
However, I would love to have a good port of 2.20CHS WMP10 mobile files over. I believe that all 3 versions must share certain key similarities for the ROM to work on the XDA2 device.
Therefore, it should be possible to port WMP10 over to other versions.
henrylim: What registry tweaks? And why did you apply them?

WM5 (UK T-Mobile) to WM6 (Black Majik) and the latest (1.43) Radio

My Experience of Upgrading – thanks to Modaco and XDA Developers - See link for latest update - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1370896&postcount=9
Having just successfully upgraded everything I thought fellow (junior) Hermes owners might like to know of my experience. For those of you about to embark on such a move, and especially for those on T-Mobile UK, you will hopefully find this useful. There are plenty of links throughout this post that should help.
1. Preparation. Having read what felt like all the information here on this forum, and others, I finally decided to start the upgrade work to take my Vario II (UK T-Mobile Hermes) to the latest (phone) radio, the latest Windows Mobile Professional 6 Black Majik build and also to CID and SIM unlock the phone to boot! All without a single problem after a significant amount of reading – but most significantly by simply following the instructions and understanding what they were asking me to do before carrying out what might actually render my Hermes a ‘Brick’ with no warranty! The XDA Dev Hermes Wiki is a great place to start and so is the upgrade guide. Warning: If you are nervous about the upgrade there is a serious amount of reading required to counter those fears.
2. Backing up. I keep very little on the actual device so all I had to do was note all the settings and backup the call records and SMS messages. I used Pim Backup to backup the calls and messages and in fact found plenty of installation .cab files that could be run from the device to restore the T-Mobile settings to allow GPRS, SMS and MMS etc.
3. The Upgrade. I did the upgrade in 7 stages getting more ambitious with each, I did not encounter one single problem and did this over a 3-day period plucking up courage as I went. This is not the optimum path to upgrade but allowed me to get familiar after first protecting my investment with Hard-SPL from OliPro – I also wanted the radio most initially:Insurance 1. Using Paul’s guide I dumped my old T-Mobile supplied WM5 OS ROM so that I had an option to get back to at least the basic WM5 build should I need to consider warranty claims. This worked OK but was undoubtedly the most complicated part of this process that use many quite advanced tools – not for the beginner I would suggest! I doubt that many will do this and I would not recommend it (I can post the dumped ROM) as others already have now) Warning: if done wrong I suspect that this is the most likely part of this process to wreck the device!Insurance 2. Having read the guides (see MrVanx and his Hermes Guide) I upgraded the IPL and SPL with Hard-SPL (thanks Olipro) to avoid ‘bricking’ (wrecking) my phone -took less than 10mins.Radio. The radio was my first upgrade goal because I’d read good things about improved reception etc. So I went straight for the latest extracted radio ROM (1.43.00.00) from the XDA Radio ROM page as this had good reports on UK T-Mobile. - took only 6 mins.WM6. Having read lots (and lots and lots…) I opted for the Black MAJIK ‘cooked’ ROM because it had so many good reviews (see XDA and 4WinMobile and Modaco) and liked the look of it (note: you can easily change the theme away from Black to more conventional appearance). The download site is http://wmblack.info/ and there are lots of applications and configuration files here. (thanks Jasjamming) - after some pre-reading the actual upgrade too only 5 mins!SIM & CID Unlocking. To get access to the extended ROM for additional storage space I had to use Pofs cooked radio ROM to make the device "Super CID" - this also removed the SIM (operator) lock and the CID (language) lock. I was then able to use HTweakC (one of many tweakers) to mount and unlock the ROM. This fix now allows me to use any operator SIM card, install any language OS ROM and also to mount and unhide the Extended ROM (Note: in WM6 it appears that this fix by Pof is required to write to the Extended ROM whereas in WM5 it can be done solely with a registry hack). Thank you Pof because the batch file did it all without problem (albeit I was really quite nervous because the Hard-SPL was removed and the radio downgraded temporarily). - this took a longer 18 mins in total (after reading). – this left me with the wrong radio and the potential to ‘brick’ my device with subsequent upgrades so…..Insurance. I put Hard-SPL back on (to protect the device) before…Radio. Re-upgrading back to the latest radioI now had a perfectly functioning Vario II with all the latest software ROMs installed and it was future proofed against my further upgrades and testing of ROMs that will certainly come after this….
5. Re-Building. I used a .cab file created by Lordsmiff on Modaco (here) to configure my T-Mobile settings and it all worked. I used the backup of the call logs and SMS messages from the Pim Backup software to restore those and then I started the installation of all the software I wanted. Of course I also had to configure pop3 access to my e-mail, enter my correct Device ID and all my personal details.
6. Problems. I had very few problems. The Internet connection would not work for my pop3 account access (OK for web browsing though) and I found that a setting (settings-connections-connections-Advanced (tab) and Select Networks button) needed to be changed to “T-Mobile Internet” from “My Work Network”. Not all of my call log was reinstated so I lost some calls. I also found out initially that I could not get full ‘write/delete’ access to the Extended ROM because it needed to be SIM/CID unlocked (or at leats part of that) before running one of the tweaking programs. That was all!
7. My Software. I installed all my usual software with no problem and all is working very well: Spb Mobile Suite/backup & Diary, SK Tools, TT6, Modaco CamerAware, Comm Manager Pro, and MS Livesearch.
8. Result. All is great so far and I have a nicer looking, slightly faster, better radio reception phone that holds 3G longer. Bluetooth pairing with my handsfree Jabra BT250 is fine and the BT pairing to my GPSlim 240 is OK too. Wifi at home also works without issue (still limited range as before). Yes it all took lots of effort to avoid the problems but it has been a free upgrade and I owe a few donations to those that made this possible – a GREAT BIG thank you to all you cooks and developers out there .
I hope this helps some of you - of course reading the Wiki is excellent free guidance offered by many (some not so politely!)
I’ll report back here on any problems I have and if anyone spots an error then please let me know and I will fix it so I do not mislead others.
EDIT - latest update (all going well) here.
Good Luck!
Nice 100th post, and nice guide as well
Hi
I have completed the stages (except reinstall the radio? why? mine was still the correct version after installing black) expect my T-Mobile settings are not working. I cant get MMS's to download using any settings cab I have found.
Is there anyway to manually edit these settings?

In my original post (at top) I included this:5. Re-Building. I used a .cab file created by Lordsmiff on Modaco (here) to configure my T-Mobile settings and it all worked. It worked absolutely perfctly for me and if you had done so I doubt that you would have had any problems at all.
If you used the cab file and it did not work then please post a reply.
Regards
Tony,
Have you noticed a great deal of difference with the radio upgrade?
thanks
Mark
good reference!
@Tony, thanks for the very good detailed outlined upgrade reference. It should be helpful for others to see the complete process from start to finish.
WM5 to WM6 (Black Majik) and the latest (1.43) Radio - UPDATE
This is an update to my original post at the top of these postings
My Black MAJIK Experience - Going well so far!
All going very well still and no problems at all with any software. Some slight slow-down after installing all the software but that is to be expected with any OS build. The main problem with slow-down (only slight) appears to be caused by Today screen plug-ins - the HTC Home Plug-in in particular.
Likes: Very Stable, absolutely no Micro SD card issues (had them with WM5), looks and ease of use of the WM6 Internet sharing capability which even my daughter can share on her Mac laptop!
Dislikes: very few indeed - go for it! There is a newer Black "Satin" in creation (JJ working on this right now) which is based upon the official HTC WM6 build - might try that next when others have posted on their experience. My only small dislike is the lack of contrast on the start menu with the black theme - in bright light it's easy to miss selections.
Problems: On a couple of occasions the speed dials have gone missing (suspect I caused it). I locked-up the device once and had to hard-reset but that was my fault again because I used too many Today screen plug-ins and it would not boot completely. Now have Monocube Safe Mode 2 (recommended) installed and so I can push the limits of Today plug-ins and not fear being unable to boot-up now.
Radio - I had absolutely no problems with the 1.43 radio but of course had to try the even newer 1.47 version. This new one seems little diffrent so far so I'll give a week. Do not forget to check Hard SPL is still on your device before flashing updates - the super CID/SIM unlock removes Hard SPL - so you need to put it back. BTW - there are instructions on how to remove the SIM lock without applying the Super CID fix - they seem more complicated but it might be worth a look before you embark upon the Super CID route.
Unless you see more from me then assume that my experience with Black MAJIK and the latest radios (1.43 and 1.47) are all going well. If you want more detail before embarking then just PM me - but read this whole post first.
Have a look at the Kaiser Homeplug.
problems
I have followed your instructions and installed the new radio and black majik and have used it for a couple of weeks. I have experienced problems with voice calling. The Icon tells me there is no service provider (T-mobile in my case), I can't make voice calls but SMS and internet still work. A hard reset solves the problem - but then I need to reload everything - annoying to do once per week.
I will probably try a different radio, unless people have other ideas?
Hugh
Working good here on T-Mobile (Aberdeen, Scotland)
Where abouts are you?

Hugh,
I have still had no radio/phone problems at all. If you have the Hard SPL still on the device (it will be unless you did the Super CID bit) then you can just flash new radio ROMs to the device without ANY need for a hard reset. The radio is completely idependant from the OS. It sounds to me like you must either have a radio/phone hardware problem (were there any issues before upgrading?) or the radio flash upgrade was not completed correctly. Did you use the radio ROM linked to from this site?
I'd suggest that you check HardSPL is there then simply run the radio ROM update again. Providing you do this correctly and do not brick your device by doing something silly - like disconnecting USB or power - the upggade of radio should have no impact upon the data or programs installed on your device - and that also includes all your SMS/MMS, E-mail and Conenctions settings.
Good luck
