Wierd SMS problem after upgrade.. - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I upgraded my XDAII to version 2.06 (the unofficial "test only" version) and in general, it has worked well. My only problem is with the incoming SMS messages sometime failing to arrive.
When this happens it will always resolve itself by a cold boot and reinstall (although restoring a sprite backup taken whilst phone's functioning OK will not fix it)
I always have to hard reset to get it working again.
I have 2.06.00WWE
ROM date 06/14/04
Radio version 1.14.00
ExtROM version 2.08.100a
Is it possible that it's a flaky radio stack?
I've reflashed this version several times and have found I prefer it's noticeable speed increase.
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
Radio stack 1.18 maybe. It's making me paranoid now that i'm missing SMS so I am forever sending them to myself to check they work.
Much more of this and i will become obsessive compulsive about it...

i did encounter similar problem...i know an sms is coming cos the screen turns on but it never ring and no envelope icon appears. sending out is ok though.
hard reset and restore w sprite backup...same problem.
hard reset again and before restore, send sms to self and it ring. means my backup is also corrupted too.
dunno why.

Are you running the same version as me?
It's a real pain as it will suddenly stop receiving the SMS messages for no reason.
I hope someone has a solution for this.....................
Strange how the backup gets corrupted when I have actually restored a backup on some occasions and the SMS was fine?

i'm using 1.18 radio.
at first i thought probably it's the system files so i restore only the personal data ie. calendar, contacts, tasks and the my documents folder.
doesn't work too which leads me to conclude that my backup is corrupted.
screen does turn on meaning it detects an incoming signal but no ring or envelope icon appears after that.

I assume that if you don't use sprite backup and restore all that data by just re-syncing it with the PC fater the hard reset, the fault doesn't occur?
This is the case with mine

There was a problem with early versions of sprite when restoring backup it would have problems with sms.

Interesting.......
I use sprite 3? would that be it.
I thought that was the most recent

Sorry you are right... version 2.1.4 is mine and that is the one mentioned on their support page.
Brilliant...you are a star.
Many thanks for your help.

um... what's a sprite? (im a newbie..)

Sprite backup... it's a fairly cheap backup prog for pocket pc.
It takes about 5 mins to do a complete backup whilst the built in
program with the XDA takes many many times longer and is not
as reliable as Sprite

Startup Items?

Well my PPCPE has been running fine up till today on a 4.00.21 ENG and Radio Version: A.20.10
Today I was in the middle of talking to someone when all of a sudden they could not hear me. I thought it was the service and called them back, still they could not hear me. I reset the device and called back and still they could not hear me. I then called someone else and the same thing they could not hear me. Few more resets and a few more calls and the same problem no one could hear me.
So I finally did a hard reset as a last resort and called someone and all was well again. THANK GOD! I feared it was a hardware problem and not software but so far so good again.
Anyway, I am trying to get my software installed again and well I remember deleting some items out of startup a while back. Here is what I have in startup and was wondering if someone can shed some light on what the items are and which should go:
aFlashman
Battery Monitor
cFlashman
Handsfree
poutlook
SMSReciever
Ussd
I believe I had deleted the "Battery Monitor" before. Not sure what these Flashman apps are. I think I can get the gist of the handsfree, poutlook and smsreciever. Not sure abot this USSD though.
Any advice?
Download the update ROM file from www.o2.co.uk, and see how you get on. Version 4.21 is the latest. Backup all your files though as the update will hard reset the device, killing anything in system memory.

Phone voice too soft

HI all.. my phone is giving me abit of problems lately..
my voice into the phone is too soft. but this only happens when i'm talking through the phone. I don't have any problems if i'm using blue tooth, or voice recording. Only through the phone.
Anyone know how to fix it?
Did you get some dirt in to the microphone whole?
don't think so, voice recording works fine

hmmm.... if the hardware mic is free of debris, you might want to reflash a radio and see if that helps, might have become somewhat corrupted.
well i reflashed everything. It's working now.. but i lost alot of data my first reflash so i didn't backup everything, only some stuff.. now trying to rebuilt my tytn again.. sigh..
anyone got a guide to what data to backup? or how to backup?
spb backup
spb clone
sprite backup
sunnysoft backup manager
thats all i can think of right at this minute
Update
it's happening again. I just flashed my ROm to scap's latest 4.0 RC,
radio to anotehr newer version also. But after flashing scap's one for 2 days it happened again.
Only other thing i did in the middle was a restore using PIMBackup which was backedup few days ago (while i had the same problem)
i suspect that it could be something to do with my backup, but i'm not sure... anyone have any ideas?
update again..
i did this that i found from another thread.. seems to work for now
I made the following experiment
I changed the value (default was 32)
HKLM/Software/HTC/StartupAnimation /Volumn
One time to 64 and I got the startup animation sound half volume and when the phone booted it was the same half volume as the startup animation
Then I made the value 16 and the volume of the startup animation and the phone after boot was twice louder than the value of 32
The phone starts with the volume that set for the startup animation and it changes volume after some time
put this key to value 0 (zero) and you have the phone boots at high normal audio level

thanks for the idea. seems that soft reset helped. "reseted" the sound back to normal
now i gotta figure out the cause of it..
i just rebuilt my thing, this time without putting any backup restore stuff yet.. it's already soft..
Guess i gotta check next time if this happens again, does soft reset fixes it. And hopefully find the root cause of this whole thing

Unable to answer the phone most of the time.

I'm on a 5060 build using the Kitchen. I have HTC Home, S2U2, and anything else that was defaulted in the settings from the basekit.
I had the same problem on DCD 3.0.1 and nue 5054 and 5059. I was told it was advanced config, so I reflashed 5059 without AC, then 5060 without it. The device worked great yesterday, but this morning I couldn't answer the phone again.
I had found something that added a change soft key setting to the systems tab, I installed that and changed the setting to messaging instead of calendar, and that's when the issue returned, so I figured it was something to do with the that. I did a hard reset but the issue still remains. My next resort is a re-flash, but I really don't want to go through all that if I can avoid it.

What do you mean you cannot answer your phone?
The calls don't go through, you cannot use the send key, what's up?
I press the answer softkey or the hardware key, and it doesn't work most of the time. It will mute the ringer, but will not answer the call.
This has been discussed elsewhere in this forum and on brand X. I also had a problem with the phone not answering. If you believe what they say....and I've tried it and it seems to be working for me now......reload a ROM without Advanced Config. This seems to be the common thread to the problem....Now my calls answer almost immediately. Try it...see if it solves the problem
I did that. My 5060 build didn't have AC in it at all.
Do you have SPB Pocket Plus installed? I had the same problems, but it hasn't returned since I uninstalled PocketPlus...
Nope. No SPB. Only default 5060 basekit and HTC home/S2U2.
I've actually gone ahead and re-flashed back to Sprint 3.35, which sucks because I really really liked the 6.1 threaded SMS, but a phone that I can't answer doesn't really do me any good.
I'll just have to wait for an official 6.1 I guess.

the new PocketCM comes with threaded text..
A little update.
The GPRS_bye_if_device_off registry hack is what was causing me not to be able to answer my phone. It was supposed to improve battery life.
I had ran no2chem 5060 for a few weeks without it happening, then went to DCD 3.0.4 and it didn't happen until last night, I tried that hack. Sure enough, after the reboot, that hack is what did it. I was doing this hack just to test that theory so had a back up. I restored it and now the phone works properly again.

dissapearing text messages

ive seen this discussed somewhere else, maybe it was ppcgeeks, but the problem is, i lose text messages when i soft reset.
i dont have much information about it, but if i soft reset soonafter a soft reset, or even an hour or so after a string of text messages, they will sometimes just not be there any more.
anyone have any idea why this is happening, or more importantly how to fix it?
thanks
i would really like some info on this. i cant offer any help other than verifying that it happens to me too. i think it has happened with both sms and mms too actually. i dont like it though
The only way I've been able to save my SMS when I reset is by holding the button to power the phone off rather than using the stylus to reset. Every time I use the reset button I lose info. Power the phone down, then turn it back on. Should help.
Sounds alot like a cache issue.... Sometimes things get put into mem cache and will be saved later when enough has been stored.... I do not know how to adjust it tho.... I'd say that between the 3 of you, there is a common program that you have installed that may be changing the way your messages are stored.... just a theory on my part, cuz I don't have that issue....
Perhaps 1 of you can flash the ROM from the 3.2.0 post and install nothing but your carrier and then send a bunch of SMS messages. Then do a soft reset to see if they stay....!
are you running a cooked rom?
i recall having this on pre 6.1 roms, though you will always risk data loss if you suddenly soft reset your device with the reset button instead of powering it down properly
i have used the same apps on my phone for a while and only started noticing this messaging issue recently. the more i think about it i think it might have started once i started using 6.1 roms. before that i was just on alltels updated stock rom and this didnt happen. but on both no2chems 5069k and now dcd's 3.2 it happens.
so..maybe its a 6.1 issue? maybe a 6.1 cache issue? all of these 6.1 roms we are using are going to have bugs so this is what im guessing.
just read the post directly above mine...... so maybe im wrong.
anyone else offer any suggestions?
This is definitely a cache issue I discovered some time ago, I think even with 6.0. If you use the reset button or pull the battery within an hour or less of doing text messaging you have to shut down Outlook/SMS first so that it will write the cache to the database.
I'm on Verizon.. This has happened to me even with the stock ROM. Not only do new text messages disappear, but if you delete all your text messages.. then reset.. they are all back.
It does appear to be a cache issue. It takes some time before changes are permanent I guess.
This happened to me on Stock with original Arcsoft, Also on DCD ROM 3.1.2, 3.1.6, 3.2.0.. with various Arcsoft versions 5.xx.
I have found no way to change this.. but I haven't checked all the reg keys for a setting that might do this. If I discover one, I'll post back.

Big problems, only sms and calls working.

Hi, my HTC mozart has seen better days.
I can't access my wifi menu, my "about", and everything that has to do with wifi..
First started to do this when I upgrade to 7.5 wp.. Then never stopped. Does anyone have a solution for this?
I tried hard reset and backup restore with zune. nothing seems to work.
Best regards.
