Been a while since the POLL Shows that there are more people who has experiencing the non-working rec and cam button in Magneto than those has a working button. Up to this moment there are no single explanation why this is happening ..
But it is not the number that are very intriguing in the POLL but its BOOTLOADER version, because we can easily distinguish does people who have a working button than those has not working button
:arrow: If you have a BOOTLOADER 1.01, 1.02 or 1.03
Most Likely ALL your Button will work .. if it doesnt work .. just a little adjustment then it gonna work
:arrow: AND if you have a BOOTLOADER 1.04 and 1.05
The Record button will only work if it is turn off(press power off once) and the buttonlock is off but it will not work if the device is ON or Total OFF (press power off twice)
and Camera button is not working in any type of situation (ON, Suspend(press power off once), total OFF(press power off twice))
:arrow: BUT if you have 1.06 the results are mixed
if you are sure that your original Booloader Installed is 1.06, then same as those who have 1.04 and 1.05 your camera and record will not work if the device is ON
but some have a working button and has Bootloader 1.06 ..
im not saying that a ROM upgrade can upgrade the BOOTLOADER since it needs the bootloader to be Unlock or to be Unprotect before it changes the Bootloader which mostly of the Device Bootloader is Lock and Protected and im not sure if there is a ROM upgrade (.nbf) that can unprotect our Bootloader to Upgrade it although we had already a case in the past thread that bootloader is change due to rom upgrade..

Now we first extract and compare the bootloader of those who have working button and uses 1.06 with those is nonworking button and uses 1.06 bootloader

Suprising we FOUND no SINGLE DIFFERENCES AT ALL .. so it means that it is not the BOOTLOADER ..
BUT WE CANNOT CONFIRMED if no one will try to Downgrade there bootloader for those non-working and upgrade there bootloader for working button. And Downgrading and Upgrading the Bootloader is surely a very Dangerous thing that you will do to your device .. i once explain it in this post

I would image at this point that its probably not bootloader so much as the hardware revision of the device, and probably older devices work, (which typically have older bootloaders).
The REAL experiment would be for someone with working keys to upgrade their bootloader, (like a 1.01 to upgrade to 1.06)...
(Ya I know,... NOT ME!.... :wink: ) Some other braver soul...

SOme ROM Upgrade, mostly the OLD ROM WM20003 contains already a bootloader 1.06 like the 1.66 and 1.72 (or even 1.75) .. some older rom contains bootloader 1.03 like the 1.60 .. but this ROM will only upgrade/downgrade your device BOOTLOADER if you have unlock bootloader which is most of the case is LOCKED or Protected..
im not sure if there is a rom update that can unlocks the bootloader and change it .. but in the past there is http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=54696#54696 .. but in a case of anybody, (tnx my friend for all the info and help .. :wink: ), i believe it was updated and not originally 1.06 since he bought his device December 2003 and the bootloader 1.06 is built in Feb 18, 2004 .. .. and yet still he has a working Rec and Camera button .. but it was repaired in March 2004 so it could be also an update from the service center .. ..

Ok, this is a dirty job but (as they say) somebody has to do it!
As suggested by James, maybe if somebody can volunteer to upgrade his bootloader, we can finally put to rest the issue of "not working buttons" as either related to the bootloader or any other thing.
So toe, I see you are successful in downgrading, if you may share & give me the steps to do the upgrade i'm willing to take the risk!
I have bootloader 1.03 & working buttons. I'm willing to try an upgrade to 1.06.

I find it odd that there could be a software difference that would stop hardware buttons working, and yet here we have it. 2002/2003/2003se all work fine, but put 2005 on and they brake.
the recent experiments in downgrading bootloader would suggest that its the actual hardware that is the problem, ie, later models (tend to have later bootloader) are less likely to work.
From this, I think its time somebody looked at how the buttons actualy interface with the hardware, and what the difference is. Because the phone buttons, the cam/note buttons and the contact/calender buttons all work on different methods.
We may have to resort to a hardware hack. It may be as simple as changing a surface mount resistor to alter the value that the buttons trigger the hardware or as complicated as changing the gpio pins, who knows.
Any hardware hackers wanna take a look?
god i wish this theory of bootloader wud go away ,i bought a secondhand xda2 of ebay last week it has 1.03 and it works fine.
one possible clue is unfortunately is to dismantle the device or remove casing and locate what REVISION the board is.which i will do 2morrow .at the same i will try and identify any obvious differences between the two.
my original device has 1.06 and works fine!!!!!

if i m not wrong the rom its made for one single device and that device was probably old so
new ones have new ship version and dont work. bootloader is recent
old ones work
and then aggain some new ones works cos the way chip board are manufactured
an old stock off chips got int production in a more recent version of devices wich made some 1.06 bootloaders also work.
so check the driver compared with 2003 driver and the answer is hidden there........

hi rhmartin .. pls PM me your YM or ICQ bro .. we need to talk live in Upgrading your BOOLOADER .. my first downgrade to 1.03 .. took 1 minute to finish .. and yeah ive been praying that nothing will happen .. when i downgrade to 1.01 from 1.03 it only took 15seconds .. but when i upgrade to 1.06 it took almost 30seconds.. but when i downgrade again to 1.01 and now from 1.06 it took me also 36seconds .. anyway its more on your PC and PPC condition than the actual upgrading process .
wish you were in pHilippines so we can study and compare our device ..
anyway guys before i even try to downgrade my Bootloader id already ask a forumer who has a working button to open his device and i will open my device also and compare it with him .. i just had to confirm first using all bootloader that its not really a bootloader issue .. it will just take us too long since i cant find a forumer near to my place that has working button to compare it we only communicate thru IM ..
ONE MORE THING GUys .. anyone here has also BOOTLOADER 1.01 pls pm me .. id like to check and compare it with the one i got from JAMES .. im having some problems with 1.01 than with 1.03 .. id like to know if this is just me and my device or the problem is incompatiblity somewhere of bootloader itself ...
anyway JAMES have you try using an MMC bigger than 64MB .. i dont have a problem in SD card even in 1gb but if i use MMC it can only read first 64MB and it will hang there .. i already try it in 1.06 but i havent encounter that problem .. i remember in 1.03 that i dont a problem in that either .. anyway tnx again for the 1.01 ..

actually m with you that the problem is due to driver (or dll) and it can be fix with a patch or a new driver .. since we dont have this problem in old WM version .. maybe we just need to distinguish first wat causes the problem ..

i tested a 128 mmc card and its ok
i did test for a 128MB MMC card i have in my foto camera and it worked ok
i usualy use a 1GB sandisk SD card
if that can say anything...its tested

I have an old XDAII from Korea that came with 1.52 or something like that and a newer one from China with 1.66 with Chinese on it.
I have 2.20 Translated on both now.
The hardware is different.
I broke the screen on the China one and I took the screen out of the older unit. The connections would not even fit. Different hardware. :shock:
The China one is at www.PPCtechs.com now. When it comes back, I will flash them both with 2005.
If one works and the other does not... It will prove it is a hardware issue.
Volume slider program
Has any one tried this http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus_t.html It woks great on 2003 2.20 etc. If it works on 2005, even with only the two top buttons, you could have a total of SIX buttons. (two real and 4 virtual) If the Volume slider part works.. THAT WOULD BE GREAT TOO!
Can anyone please post a guide on how to flash Hard-SPL onto my HTC TYTN.
The guide for installing Hard-SPL onto the HERMES is not available anymore, and i am EXTREMELY confused about what im doing, and i am afraid i will brick my phone if i do something wrong.

It really isn't hard to do. But be sure you know what you are doing btw. SO read the sticky!
Basically you just download the flavor of Hard SPL you want (I used 2.10 which I can recommend, very easy to downgrade to factory SPL again as I just learned!).
After download unzip the folder and run the RUUWrapper. Follow instructions exactly, do nout unplug your device etc. and it should work like a charm. It takes about 1 minute!
If you don't know what you are doing or you are still doubting, wait for Mr Vanx site to come online again or don't flash. There is always a risk you screw up and end with a $500 brick.
So use at your own risk!

hi guys have tried to update mine today on a jasjam it connects sys it updating but starts at 0% then just jumps to 100% and says flash finished but when i restart the phone it still has the same loader what am i doing wrong i want to update it from windows 5 to windows 6 using crc-9 but don't want to update till i do the loader any help from you guys would be great

start the device in bootloader, what is displayed?
Mine is doing the exact same thing. Starts at 0% and jumps to 100% and says it is done, but it has done nothing.

the SPL flash is VERY quick.
I'll ask YOU this aswell, put your device into bootloader mode and tell us what it says.

thanks for your reply after checking the bootloader it has changed to 2.10 olie it did it so fast i thought it had failed will check properly next time and have successfully flashed it to crc 9 and it runs great thanks for all the help

I appreciate your reply Mr. Vanx. Same as with puca, I put my phone into the bootloader mode and it does indeed show the correct 2.10 Olipro version. This is the 3rd 8525 I have had and I could have SWORN it took much longer on the first 2. Even the update from WM5 to WM6 seemed to take much less time with this particular phone. Guess I shouldn't really complain
Downgrade Error 260
Hi Mr Vanx I have followed your guide to downgrade my current SSPL (2.10 Olipro) to SSPL (1.11). But I keep getting error 260. I have followed guide step by step.
I have even tried flashing from SD-Card (by renaming to HERMING.nbh). Process runs successfully, but nothing happens.
Its still showing SSPL-2.10 Olipro in bootloader. Am I missing anything?

I do not see the radio version or the IMEI. So I would like to do a HARDSPLv7 followed by Radio ROM update to 1.06.00.10. I hope this will work. Seniors may help with their sggestion.

I have an I-mate 9502 but my problem is for pocket pc generaly.
I installed a program for sound, When I do a soft reset it hangs on Blue Imate page and didn't boot.
I tried to hard reset but it dosen't worked too(I know hard reset of it, is Green+FN+Power button) but it don't work, Also I tried to install a fresh Rom but it need to loud windows.
Please help how to hard reset it.

After Flashed with the new ROM, My Device is now stuck in iMate Blue Screen Logo....!!!
But Don't worry Guys...it can be solved with manually hard Reset...
1. Remove battery and reinsert (to make sure the phone is off).
2. Hold down Fn and the Green button (with the phone icon on it) and press the power button.
3. You will see the white hard reset option screen almost immediately. Press the Left Soft Key to hard reset.

Impossible to enter PIN number the connection manager refuse even to open.
I've tried to install different ROM to see if it could change anything but nothing has changed.
I've also no more description of the RADIO I'am using in the about file.
Please help me to save my lovely brick !

Please download the Michy R4.1 and update it it will work. I had the same problem. My advice is "do not use password or pin while you are testing the new rom"
1. Do a hard reset By Vol Down+ reset hole press
2. Get into boot loader By Camera button pressed + reset hole press until you see the tricolour screen.
3. Then flash R4.1

I tried to install the 4.1 Rom and it loaded well. I had the boot screen where nothing was writen after the "R" of radio and then I went to the frist setting screen. It then asked to reboot to customize and since that moment black screen. The power led is on and nothing more...

I think you have somehow lost your radio or it has become corrupted
Do you have one of the shipped roms?
Try flashing this as i think it includes a radio
even AP3 may have a radio included in the RUU
Flash this while you are in bootloader.
Or you could flash radio 1.58
I've been trying to flash the 1.58 this morning and I was stuck on 0%
I will get to the wiky and try to download the original Rom for my Athena.

i have ATHENA 100 in T-MOBILE Ameo........ i update lot of rom's on my ameo with success . my phone status is: IPL-v1.00 SPL-v1.20. Olipro.
my bad luck i try to update with that rom (Athena_SPL3.5_WM6.1_WWE_R6.1-Michy) after 92% rom got error & phone restart. after that my Ameo hang on startup. i put my phone into usb mode by pressing CAMERA key + POWER & try to upgrade with lot of diffrent roms but i got ERROR[244] INVALID MODEL ID (pic attached below) plz help me how can i update my phone in working condition??>......................

my bad luck i try to update with that rom (Athena_SPL3.5_WM6.1_WWE_R6.1-Michy) after 92% rom got error & phone restart. after that my Ameo hang on startup. i put my phone into usb mode by pressing CAMERA key + POWER & try to upgrade with lot of diffrent roms but i got ERROR[244] INVALID MODEL ID (pic attached below) plz help me how can i update my phone in working condition??>......................

here is the situation i'm in:
i tried to upgrade my HTC Touch Dual with an HTC Touch official ROM ,i prosed with the operation but it did not complete for an error then my phone was stuck on the three colors Screen after that I've reseted the phone ( hard reset ) by pressing the call ,end call ,power and reset buttons all together and here...i realized that i made a disaster because that my phone is not starting and make no response on the screen and it's totally black and when i connect it to the PC ,the indicator light led torn's red!!! and the PC dose not see it i tried to hard reset it again it didn't work.
Please help me ....

hey m8 i had this problem b4 also i just ran a different rom whilst it was in the tri colour screen and it was all up and working again.

Thank's 4 the fast response bro but the problem that is when i flashed the phone with wrong ROM i had the tri color screen but after that i hard reseted the phone as i described above and the phone went died and red lid light indicator on USB cable.

have you tried to enter the bootloader?
yes i did if it mean's pressing the camera and the reset button together but i learned this method in an HTC Touch thread replay so if it's the same (pressing the camera button and the reset button by the styles) it means that I've also tried it and did not work. and please ,if there is any other way to enter the Bootloader just feel free to tell me about it cuz i think that when i get the tri color screen again i will able to flash the phone with official English ROM of WM 6.1 that I've downloaded from the HTC site unless there is some thing that i don't under stand.

I did use the method (pressing Power+Camera+Reset) and I've got the tri-color screen the PC saw the phone and I've got the "USB" text on the phone screen then i started the ROM upgrade utility then i noticed the text under the tri-color is changing once "Serial" and another "USB" and so on until it stay's on the "Serial" and the upgrade utility show's an "Exit" button ,i press it ---> it exit's!!!.then i just disconnected the phone and reconnected it to the USB the tri-color showed the "USB" text then i started the ROM upgrade utility and got the same results.then i soft reseted the phone by the styles and get back to the same old situation ( black screen and red led on connection) and the phone is not entering the tri-color mode using the same method using the same method u linked me in ur last replay (pressing Power+Camera+Reset)!!!!!!!!
What should i do ...
please help me coz no one to ask near me and we have no HTC center here in Iraq and it look's like that i'm the only one who carry an HTC phone in my hole country!!!

It's some kind of a progress .. right..but what's wrong ?? Q/ is the ROM ?? A/ I downloaded it from the official web site and it's for the HTC Touch Dual...then what????
Please do not let me down ... my hops are only on ur experiences.

The phone is locked to a particular phone company. You'll need to unlock it first. So, a bit more work needed. Follow this thread. but make sure you read it carefully:

Ok now...here is the situation:
as u advised ,i went to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395945 and it say's in (1.) that i must have a HardSPL 1.15 MFG installed (i have SPL 1.18 installed) then i went to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730 to get the HardSPL 1.15 MFG and i've found it but here is the problem:
in step (4.) i have to install sspl 1.16 nike.exe by copying it to the phone memory ,but i only managed to enter the tri-color screen and i can not copy any thing in to my phone so who am i gonna install it??? then i saw the other attached files flash-hardspl-niki.zip and flash-splash-niki.zip and all others ,what i get when i start the utility after unzipping the attachment is error in connection and the bar stay's on 0% and start the recovery system....
by the way ...all i see on the tri-color screen is the following:
RUUNBH on the right upper side of the screen.
NIKI 100 ,SPL-1.18.0000 and CPLD-4 on the upper left side of the screen in the red bar.
USB of Serial in the bottom wight bar.
thank u all 4 ur effort ,but i have no place else to ask for help....
so please stay with me to the end ...i hope it will be a happy end.

From this point, we know you have SPL 1.18 on board, with a locked ROM to a phone carrier.
Best advise I can think of is to get the official ROM from the carrier and flash that. It will get you back to starting point
After that, copy SSPL 1.16 to phone, and run that on phone, followed by falsh to Hard1.15MFG before trying to unlock the phone.

the phone was sent to me from Holland (Netherlands) and when i was turning it on on startup it show's a logo of number (1) or something like that.
so please can any one tell which carrier is that and where to find it ????

try to find your phone's original country in following website.
http://service.htceurope.com/htcdistributor/Default.aspx
then, you can know which language rom is suitable to your phone, try to find it.
flash the original rom
everything will be ok...

so please any one can help me with providing a link for the original carrier ROM of KPN or send it to my email or just any any thing just i'm feeling so disperet ...

you can go to www.htc.com then find suport, use your sn, you can download the original ROM. flash it first, then flash other rom which you need.
Thank u Justsun ,i just solved it by the help of Homerh and now i have the original ROM on my phone and by the way , i did not flashed it ,Homerh teached me how to restore the original ROM on the phone using the mtty and that's it. now i'm looking for a ROM that support Arabic for my HTC Touch Dual ,if u can help me find it ,i'd be pretiated.
