Ok so I bought a clear case here And while working, I was inspired by A black and silver Ford GT sitting in our shop. Here are the results.
that looks pretty good. may i ask where did you buy your case.
eBay
You can buy it from eBay a seller "e2" in Hong Kong, but shipping just about a full month. I bought 2 and am using none of them. They are garbage because the holders (places where plastic pieces stickout) will scratch your phone no matter what. Overtime, the places where the case is held on the phone will be pressed leaving the paint on the phone depressed and scratched. Otherwise it will protect the phone real good.

They are not the highest in quality, and it took ten days shipping. But it sounds like you need to trim the "flash" around the tabs, you can also cut the tabs off and use little pieces of 2-sided tape, which will solve all of your mentioned problems.. for less than $5.00 and you can paint 'em any color you want, I ain't complaining!

VERY NICE PIMP! Very nice indeeed. an affortable and less dodgy way to do it
What paint you used? And sorry if I am blind, but you painted the cases you bought, not the phone itself, right ?
And BTW, looks ...WOOW
Nice job!
that reminds me of a friend of mine who once owned one of the cheapest polish cars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polski_Fiat_125p) and painted id in similar way (actually he made quite lot of modding inside as well, including chrome-metallic parts that resembled washing machine in a way
oh well, there's been a lot of fun with this piece of junk... and the guy's nickname is still "Viper" ;]
oh yeah. i forgot to mention i like this mod a lot, looks very cool!!

I am a Developmental Marketing Technician for Ford Motor Co. I pulled the "Paint Codes" from the door of the GT in the Third Picture. And used PPg enamel paint. I think any paint will work?! And yes I painted the inside. I screwed up the stripes (they should be wider and closer together). But I was in a hurry, I did it on my lunch hour, and still had time to eat! The paint looks really good!! The clear Plastic makes it look like a super thick clear-coat!! I spent a little time on a bench buffer with it. But the paint will never scratch, because it is inside!!
[HINT]
Oh yeah, a little Tip if you decide to try!!! After spraying the inside, no matter how well you mask it, you will end up with a mist of paint on the outside. A little polishing compound and a soft rag removes it like magic!!
Here is a Link to a picture of the case without the phone
congratulations
anione knows if this clear case exist for i- mate k-jam or qtek 9100??
COGRATULATION AGAIN YOU GIVE ME A GREAT IDEA

Pardon my poor language.. but what do you mean by "flash"?
Just dropped my phone a few hours ago and extremely upset... Luckily it was in its case but a coupla corners still got damaged
I was about to purchase a replacement housing but seeing this post, this would be a much cheaper alternative... Just gotta think of a theme now and find an artist...
Do you know if anyone sells it without that circle on the back?

Flash means when a plastic piece is cast, a small amount of plastic is left over that needs to be trimmed, or it could leave a jagged edge.
The circle on the back gives it a stable base when you lay the phone down...
could you share the gt theme?

Sorry I missed your post hope you enjoy it!!
man, why dont they sell these cases in the stores?????
that's a pretty damn good job, nice work!!
My wizzard 's casing is pretty beat up due to me dropping it, just laying it down on concrete, etc. I'm really thinking about actually sanding and 'polishing' the body of it to make it more shiny/get rid of scratches....and then buy a hardcase to go over that...
Wow... tahts the nicest case i've ever seen. Nice job... you should resell your case... =]
I did the same thing(well, solid black). It looks awsome from the front, but I cant get the back to really fit to the phone. I don't know if its my phone or if I just got a bad case.
I think I would have a little trouble returning it painted black though!
Obviously any case will offer more protection, and this was a very expensive phone no doubt... But I dont want to get a case other than switching out the replacement back battery cover, because once you put a case on it, it makes it even larger or my hands. I love the thin profile of the note 3 and with gorilla glass it wont scratch easily, Im super careful when I set it down on flat surfaces and if I drop it well thats the chance I'll take. I also like the chrome accents and the silvery edge that goes all around the phone, any case besides a replament back cover will obviously cover the silver fake metal sides that go all around the phone.
so is this a question? looks like you already made your decision on the matter.
obviously, any accessory is an option, not a requirement. accidents happen. cases protect the phone in those incidents. it'll also keep the original housing of the phone in better condition than the usual wear and tear if you're looking to sell it later on.
If you choose not to use a case, that's perfectly fine.

I'd love to go naked, the thin profile of this phone is terrific. But I'm too scared so this is why i like the official Samsung flip covers that replace the back cover. They maintain the thin profile but at least offer some more protection than going naked. As a great bonus they turn the screen on and off when you open and close the cover respectively.
Its not if you don't plan to sell anytime soon. Screen protectors degrade image quality and most non OEM cases look tacky.
I got the slim fit spigen case. Initial trial of it, although it's probably not adding a whole lot of weight, it feels like it is compared to when I was running naked for the first couple weeks while waiting for it to come in. I've since opted to run naked. I do have a slim armour spigen coming in for days where I will be a bit more active or if I'm mounting it onto something.
IMO, flip cases are annoying because I snap photos all the time, and the flip cases simply get in the way requiring me to hold it with two hands when other cases just one hand operation to snap works. As well unless it's the s-view ones, its super annoying to flip open everytime you want to check something small like the time.
My phone itself is naked.
I can't stand flipcases, as the flap keeps getting in the way of everything. (I'm a woman, so I have even less chance of holding it in one hand, Meaning I always have the flap in the palm of my hand.)
Screen protectors look ugly, are a nightmare to apply and reduce the screen quality. My phone goes nowhere near my keys, so it's not needed.
I am keeping an eye out for an aluminium backcover, but so far there's very little of them. Those that are available don't ship outside the US.
I do keep the phone in a walletcase when it's in my pocket or on the table. This way I can lay it on top of the case so I don't scratch the camera: http://shop.golla.com/epages/Golla.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/Golla/Products/G1406
I admire you naked guys really, I don't dare that my 700€ device could drop and brake. It's a huge device in hand and if you do a work that is hard the phone eventually will drop, also you cannot grab it fully with 1 hand. Offcourse I love also the slim naked feel of it but I don't risk it. Atm I have a clear bumber and a tempered tr glass till my Spigen case arrives and I feel secure.

It's silly to not have a case on a $700 device that you use throughout each and every day. I work in cellular retail and every time someone brings in a broken smartphone without a case I ask them about it, and their response is always along the lines of "I'm always super careful and this has never happened before!" and half the time they don't have insurance either.
Accidents happen, which is why they are called accidents; no one can be 100% sure they won't have a careless moment. Not to mention sometimes it's someone ELSE'S carelessness that can end with your phone being broken.
Verizon has a thin shell case (with optional holster) that provides a little grip, a handy kickstand, and most importantly a bit of a raised edge along the screen and camera. It probably won't help much for a 6 ft drop on concrete, but it's definitely better than nothing at all and will at least help prevent scratches if you are against screen protectors.

If you give someone else your $1000 phone, even to hold for a second, you're an insult to evolution and would do well to remove yourself from the gene pool.

But letting a child hold your 1000 dollar phone is even more idiotic.... I would not let it hold a 200 dollar phone, let alone something that costs more than the average car.

my last three main daily driver phone I ran naked. Asus PDA (plastic screen), T-Mobile dash, HTC evo 3d. There were some other pretty boss phones in that mix of the last ten years but those were the phones I loved. Non of them had screen protectors or cases. I got my NOTE3 and now I have been protector/case concerned. The device is just so thin and so jewelry like that I'm going to wrap it up tight and see if it adversely effects the experience. Not Otterbox tight, I never understood that methodology. I'm going glass screen protector and slimmest of cases. Unles there is an artful reason to do otherwise which I think is possible. But I need a Golla bag without Zipper or carbineer, just dual belt loop. A saggy bag with a big velco flap that I can use as a transport mechanism. Hard clip holsters suck. I want padded sliding desert bag style low profile, that I set on my belt in the morning with loops and forget about until night. A few years ago Golla had that exact thing. Now they don't. I'm just going to sew myself what I want out of canvas until the market catches up. Horizontal belt clip? are you kidding me?
1 question? Are you mad? This phone? Naked? This is a precious baby you don't go naked with this. It's that awesome I'm waiting for the otterbox.

No, not very likely; I'm asexual. Me having children is something that'll never happen.
I occasionally teach 6-12 year olds for a day. (a few friends of the family are primary school teachers, they sometimes ask me to do photography, tech or design classes for them.)
Not a chance in hell am I letting them touch my phone. Or my tablet. Or my laptop. Or my camera. Or anything else that could easily be damaged.
Also, according to Google a jackalope is a rabbit with antlers.. Is Google on drugs or is that actually correct?

Your $700 N3, wait I mean $1000 N3 costs more than the average car? You don't let anyone touch your phone? My girl can use it anytime she wants, if she needs it. My godson could as angry birds on it anytime as well... It's only a phone. It's insured, and of not, easily replaceable. The day any material possession becomes more valuable than a person in my life, is a sad day indeed.
PS- I absolutely love my phone too. Just not as much as people in my life.

Yes, 1025 USD, it's 750 euros here. Welcome to Europe.
I'm 22, you don't seriously think people my age can afford cars over that price I should hope. Certainly not in this economy.
I suppose that's the difference, I don't have such people in my life.

Hi guys!
First off, no, I am not affiliated with, nor being paid by SlingGrip to write this. But I do want to share this great little product since I haven't seen anyone else mention it for this phone.
When I first got my Note 3, I wanted something to supplement the one-handed mode that would help me use the phone with one hand. I looked at a few different solutions, but the SlingGrip caught my eye because it was pretty inexpensive and made in the US. I ordered a purple one and waited while it and my case came in.
All the SlingGrip is, is a small elastic strap that you can hook your fingers in to give you a more secure hold on the phone. I got it, peeled it off the card it comes on, and stuck it right to the back of my case. It holds very securely with a 3M glue strip. It does add a fair bit to the thickness of the phone and keeps it from lying flat on a table, but this was a non-issue for me. The plastic and elastic strip feel pretty good, and it's such a simple combo that I don't forsee it breaking under normal use.
This was a godsend for using the phone with one hand. I ended up not even using the one-handed mode on the phone, with this I can reach the entire screen without feeling like I will drop the phone!
I just ordered a three-pack since I got a new case, and I highly recommend checking it out!

Nice. As someone with elfin hands, this looks quite useful. Looks like I'll be doing some cheapskate crafting later :3
Approximately how big is the mounting square for these things? I'm really intrigued by these add-on holders (sling grip, iring, flygrip, etc) but the UAG case I have has all kinds of funky grooves and designs on the back. :x
Yeah, I was turned off by the grooves on the UAG case for just that reason. I'm guessing that the slinggrip is longer than the center part where the logo is...

I feel like you'd be much better off just getting a lanyard. There are cases that allow lanyard attachments and they're a lot easier to use, just throw it on your wrist.

Lanyards don't help with holding the phone at all. All that does is catch the phone when you've already lost your grip.

Just bought a couple of XZU. One for me and the other for my wife. Both of us love the device so far. But today i came across an issue that got me really worried. Apparently the device is very fragile and warps just from regular day to day usage. So, i was wondering how do you carry the device and how many of you have a warped device just by carrying it in your pants pocket. And what measures should i take to preserve my precious device. The sony blog is flooded with complains of spontaneous cracking of the screen which is related i guess. These devices retail in my country for around 300 USD. Considering its config i thought it was a no brainer to buy it. But now i am really worried. So to summerise, how fragile the device is really and what measures should i take to protect its integrity. Sorry if i am asking something that's already been discussed. Will really appreciate any input.
I've had my first one for well over a year now, and the second for 4 or 5 months.
Neither are warped or bent, both have taken dives out of my truck on to concrete. The last dive did split the top plastic bezel and broke my flip case. The flip case is the only protection that they have, and I don't always use it. The device is either in a cargo pocket (if I'm at work) or front pocket if I'm out and about / on the town
Edit:
That been said, it is 2 sheets of very thin class in a aluminium frame
Thanks for the reply. Appreciate it. Judging from the lack of responses i guess the issue might not be as big as i thought it to be. well lets see what happens.
Had mine since March and have no problems
Been carrying it in my back Jean pocket, jacket pocket, man purse, etc...
I don't use a case either...

Mines twisted pretty bad from being in my front pocket, sitting down, etc. When I place it flat on a table it wobbles, but I think it's amusing. It honestly doesn't bother me one bit.
Lol, good for you then mate. As long as its fuctional everything is fine I guess.

Lol,good one
Okay guys. As you all know, you can't paint aluminum. Spending a bit of time on Oakley forum, it dawned on me that you can duracoat or cerakote a phone. I have a gold a 2017u that is begging for a refinish. I hate gold, but love this phone. Just curious whether anyone has attempted such or if I will be the first monkey launched into space. Just had my X metal XX refinished and would love the gold to be gone. If we had a hardware modding section, I'd post there. Lol.
What about the antenna bands? Fingerprint reader? What about the plastic speaker covers? Most people, including me, are going to tell you that it's just not worth it. This is especially true if it's just for a color change and not to cover scratches. I actually just bought a gold A7 because I think they look nicer in a case than the grey ones do. I'm normally one for subdued colors but in this case the color of the phone is just an accent color. If you do it, pick a color that isn't offered to make it interesting and post the pictures here.

Lol I can't count how many times I've been tempted to take a piece of sandpaper and at least get rid of the gold finish...
The good thing about the construction of this thing is that once you take it apart, only the FP reader and the camera lens remain there. I guess you can get the lens out with a little bit of pressure and take that gold ring off. The reader has a piece of what seems to be tape upon it, but you may as well leave it there. and having the two antenna lines of another color may even look nice
I really want to see the final product...
I'm torn between durabake and duracoat aerosol. I'm fairly confident that powered off, the 200 degrees f would not melt anything plastic on the phone. I wish I knew more about temperature tolerances. Also. I'm torn between primary red and nwu blue. The aerosol kit doesn't require baking, so likely that is a safer option.
Update: duracoat aerosol ordered.

Wait, you are dissembling the phone right? I vote blue but it's too late.
lol. yes. and i ordered the nwu blue.
honestly, i think it will be a great project. if it works, it will be the motivation to acquire a 64/128. (not too motivated on that presently bc of the hideous gold.) NWU blue should be worlds better than ghetto gold.
i plan to take the phone apart.
i plan to duracoat the speaker grills the same color. same thing on sim tray and the parts where the plastic antennae lines are. i honestly could pull off doing it w/o pulling it apart and taping/masking well considering it doesnt have to bake. but i feel like the pita of full disassembly may be worthwhile.
ive taken many many phones apart. so i am not squeamish there. i just am not certain that the fingerprint sensor and the sapphire glass on the camera are that hard to mask off. (eyes crappy slickwraps extras. lol)
edit: after watching this video:
, i *definitely* am disassembling. i am so stoked for a blue axon. i wish i could make a red decal to replace the logos.

Well, I took apart my Moto G 2 and while these 2 phones are worlds apart in terms of build quality, all it took was a soft piece of wood and some force to get the camera lens to pop off. was riddled with scratches. Shouldn't be too hard to get this one off too, maybe with some heat.
You could use one of those crappy skins (only the camera one, anyways) to put on the backside lens if you can see the PCB through once you get the gold ring off, assuming you can't just paint it and put it again. I'm sure one of those brands can ship you only what you want, don't remember the name though
I guess you'll have to sand the whole body for the paint to stick to the aluminum and stay there with all the handling? If you can take some pictures of the sanded backside I'd be grateful, cause I think i'll just sand it, paint whatever's left and let it be
The FP sensor should be easy to modify, JerryRigEverything always scratches fp sensors with a blade (like you'd ever get to that point lol) abd they always keep working, so if you need to sand it so that the paint gets stuck to the plastic, you can. I don't even know what those paints are, they probably don't even import them here in Argentina. But from what I'm deducing they won't stick to plastic will they?
Also, I'd advise you to be real careful with the fabric thingy that covers the speakers. I broke one and lost the other one, so I have to clean the speakers with a magnet every once in a while... (workshop fills them up with iron dust). and something JerryRigEverything didn't mention on the disassemble video was that the power button is free-floating once you take it apart (it can't fall off though) and when I was putting the phone together the chassis somehow bent a little bit. Nothing critical but sure looks bad

From what i understand, Duracoat will bond to any material, so long as it is degreased and prepped (sanded in this scenario) . So plastic is in. (yay)
i plan to spray the buttons but i do not plan to remove them unless i have to. even the full disassembly is not that hard.
I dont necessarily plan to paint the fp sensor unless i know the finish will not impede functionality. Duracoat may break the functionality, so i might have to be creative. its funny you mention jerryrigeverything's video bc that was my proof of concept for being able to sand the sensor down to not gold color.
on my Droid Turbo, i used to cover the capacitive buttons with clear self adhesive vinyl before i covered the screen with a Skinomi Tech skin. I may just sand the sensor enough for it to no longer be gold and grab some clear self adhesive vinyl to color match, provided that does not break functionality.
as far as sanding/prepping, i plan to emulate the process used in the video here:
and i also plan to take pics and make instructions for the whole process.
The Axon 7 forums dont have any physical mod posts, so it will be nice to put one out there as it is the best device i have owned so far. I used to be a Moto man. but they lost me with the novelty of "mods" and Verizon making boot loaders permanently locked.
My Duracoat should be here by the 30th. i really wish i could buy another color midframe that isnt gold, but ZTE parts are a pain to find.

Any news? I really wanna see that phone
lol. im watching a couple of 128/6 atm bc one can should do two. depending on how that pans out, i may be able to start on it this weekend.
no news yet. i missed out on the 128gb i was watching. honestly, the hardest part is gonna be having to use my Droid Turbo for a week while the Duracoat cures. fortunately, Turbo has some awesome devs. im still paranoid the midframe will chip easily on the sides, but even after i duracoat it, i will still use a case.
i also have to decide by what means to prep the surfaces. i figure a fine sandpaper, then the truestrip that came with the duracoat. masking the round parts is going to be a pita.
so in essence, its close, but im still deciding my plan of attack. after the holiday, i should be ready to start.
well, i have the turbo updated and im about to go pick up my sandpaper. the camera ring (if i cant find how to remove it) i am leaving gold. i had initially thought id sand the gold off of the camera, but its under the glass. ordered dbrand skins for the camera. if all works as planned, that is a compromise im willing to accept.
the plan as it stands: (commencing this evening)
1) Sand finish of back, sides, mid-frame after disassembly.
2) clean all with Tru Strip (included with Duracoat Aerosol kit).
3) duracoat 5 layers, heat flashing in between coats.
4) (hardest step) leave alone for a week and allow to cure.
I will add pics or a vid when and if time allows while im in the process.
Im using 3m Sandpaper and a sanding block i picked up from Walmart. totally forgot painters tape. back to the store i go. camera on Turbo pales in comparison to Axon 7, so bear with me in this process.
gold finish is thicker than anticipated. i cant get down to bare metal. might say screw it and go with what i got.
400 grit takes forever. camera flash is dead. i tore the black material under the fingerprint sensor. totally pulled the trigger too soon. gonna paint as is. eying broken ones on ebay. if all else goes well (prepped to duracoat atm) either i will live w/o flash and fingerprint sensor (bc of my own haste) or ill buy a grey A7. either way, this back will look great on another axon 7.
also, the gold on the camera lens is a sticker on the bottom side. popped out, and when i went to grab it, thats when the flash fell out.
its probably doomed to look like crap, but progress.

verdict: bad ideas ruined a great project. axon is dead. at least, locked in a boot loop. buttons are stuck. buying grey now. lol. lessons learned.
