Thinking Of Picking up Cheap XDA I - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Spotted a cheap XDA I which i may be able to pick up for around 50 quid, so i was wondering looking at the specs of a 200mhz processor how well it performs with audio and video? As well as gaming and the odd emulation? Finally i wondered if its possible to replace the battery as the one I may get seems to have a nackered battery

I still have a XDA 1 and be please with it.
Audio is good.
I do not try VDO for real but should be fine.
I do not game with it, so I cannot comment.
Regarding the battery, this is the most critical part.
You can :
1. Buy a replacement battery and change it (not difficult really but will void the garanty)
2. Buy an external additional battery (probalby very difficult to find now)
In any cases, my comments is: Find a new battery before you decide to buy it, as it start to be really old. (it might be cheaper to buy a "fried" XDA that a replacement battery).

Any suggestions for best UK source for a replacement battery?

I've had my PW10A1 Wallaby for many years now and whilst it's still useful and I don't really want to replace it, the internal battery is, expectedly, not holding charge that well any more. It's ok for a few days but if I leave it in a drawer for a week, when I go to use it I'm presentd with a low power message.
Can anyone suggest a reputable supplier in the UK from whom I could purchase a replacement battery.
I'm comfortable with taking her apart to replace it but because she's quite old now, all the adverts on ebay I could find were for much later versions of the XDA series.
My reservation with non-UK purchases is simply the p&p costs.
As an alternative question, are there any workarounds that allow the battery to be taken apart so that another battery of the correct voltage could be used instead?
Thanks
Charles

replacing the battery on an XDA
Thanks for the link, but that price!!
Surely on that basis it's cheaper to upgrade to a whole new XDA model?
Or is that the usual way people go?
Expansys show £104.99 for the battery only or £85.99 if they install it for me?
Either way, that's a lot of cash for a battery.
Isn't there any other way?
recall expenansys having more then 1 hit you can look around and search their site
xda 1010 battery is what I searched for
another option is ebay I suppose

Looks good, thanks for the heads up.
it's a big battery...make the phone bigger but it worth if the life of that battery it is abot 2-3 day because i charged my phone every day with te stock one
Did you see the picture on Ebay? It claims that it is the same size as the OEM battery so you DO NOT need to change the back cover. You use the OEM cover
Hi,
up to now tests showed that no alternate batteries were an improvement if they fit in the standard case. Google for the name of the battery perhaps you find something.
Are you on stock firmware? If yes a modified firmware might be a good idea. With froyo I reached more then 70 hours with low usage. The new GB roms will reach this also in a few weeks I think.
Ralf
Thanks for the reply, I did install the latest 2.3.3 Wolfbreaks ROM...
1. Maybe thats why the battery life is short...
2. I did just get this phone...heavy use...may cause the short battery life.
3. My excitement for the phone is another reason battery life is short
Interesting find.
I never used the particular one you found on Ebay, but I have another regular-sized one from China claiming it has 2200mAh capacity.
I hate to burst your bubble, but I have in the past bought and tried many, many replacement batteries for SE, Moto, HTC and other handsets and not single one of them clearly exceeded the capacity of OEM ones. Sure those sellers say theirs have 2200mAh or 2300mAh compared to OEM's 1500mAh they seem a lot better, but in realty they are about the same as the OEM at best. The one I have (they advertised as 2200mAh) for my X10 seems a little bit better than OEM. The 2300mAh one on Ebay, at least, doesn't try to copy the look of OEM, and (from my experience) it usually is a good sign of they are better than self-claimed really cheap OEMs you can find everywhere in Ebay. In the end, long battery life is not a forte of android. It's not like we have symbian devices.
As far as I know, "Mugen" replacement battery seems truly better than OEMs, though I haven't tried them personally. They are not cheap, you know.

Awesome incite and input!!! Thanks Hasei!!!
I think I am going to buy it...!!!

Symbian battery is PATHETIC. I still have My N97Mini and my N8, alongside my HTC Sensation and SE X10, all heavily tweaked [you can't even tweak symbian that much] and I'll tell you now, its pathetic. Laggy like ****, but the battery wont even last 30 hours in minor usage, and not even 4 hours in hardout. My x10 can last like 4 days in the minimal usage and 10 hours in hardout, but I still carry one extra battery around =]

Just ordered this battery for $34 USD, will post a review when tested in a couple weeks.
I think it will be a good move from my side to search for such a battery. Ebay, i'm coming!
Seriously, the phone saps away power like mad when using Wi-Fi...
guyz i would recommend not to use chinese or fake batteries. They can even blast.
I never used to play with my battery.

i've been using the 3200 mAh battery from ebay as my x10 battery for the past 2 months or so. It's really good if you don't mind the bulk, i can play psx games on my phone for about 8 hours and be left with 60% of my battery. if i don't use my phone much (just texting occasionally) it lasts about 2-4 days. So far no signs of overheating/blowing up .
(edit: used to be running on demand governor, recently switched to smartass. Battery seems to be doing even better)

it's a 3200 battery, i'll try pming you the link, it won't let me post it.
If it sounds too incredible, it probably is...
Give it a thought: If the manufacturer of the original batteries would be able to squeeze a few extra hundreds milliamps into the battery without risking the battery security, don't you think they would have from the beginning?
There is always one or more downsides with these "better" batteries:
1: They're fake. in fact, it's only a 1700 mAh battery with a 2200 mAh sticker on it. Placebo warning here! Those reviews from other "customers"? Problably the manufacturer themselves, or payed "customers".
2: They're bigger, so they do need a different cover. These battery claims can be true, more capacity = larger battery. Something has to give in. (In this case: Size), right?
These bigger batteries are okay, as bigger battery means more capacity. You have to give up the slim size here.
3: They removed some or all security features in order to allow "overcharging". That way they can squeeze in a few more mAh in the battery.
The risk of overheating is very real here. There have been cases where such "no security" batteries have exploded, and in some cases even catching fire... while still in the owners pocket. Ouch! That gotta hurt alot.
Here is a video on overcharging a Lithium Ion battery, but it isn't far from what can happen to a Lithium Polymer battery without the security:

[Q] Eventual Battery Replacement?

[1st post] Apologies if this has already been discussed in a thread -- if so, just shut this one down...
Though I am looking forward as much as anyone else here to eventually getting my own Asus TP, I am curious about how easy/expensive it will ultimately be to replace the internal battery i.e. when the initial one wears out from continual drains and re-charges (as a follow-on to this, I am curious what treatment needs to be given to the TP battery to maximize its life span)?
One of the many selling points of the Toshiba Thrive was the user-replaceable battery (and easily-removable back panel). From what I understand, that was the *only* tablet with that feature.

You won't be able to change the battery easily. From what i looks like I guess the back is somehow glued to the screen, so I don't think removal will be a good idea
Modern batteries should not need replacement before the average user buys a new tablet, so i wouldn't worry about it.

But I do wish to worry about it.
Perhaps I plan to make this a permanent resident of my desktop or car?
Perhaps I use items far beyond the length of the average user.
OP, most of the time in cases like this there is a in-warranty replacement plan available.

Hmmm...it disturbs me to think that it might not be easy (or, worse yet, possible) to replace the battery in *any* device that I might own. Even if I myself cannot do the 'replacement', I would hope that some service center could (?). If not, I think it is crazy to 'throw away' a perfectly good device just because of the battery. I suppose one could just leave the device plugged in, but on a tablet that is very constraining
Any estimates for how long it might take to get to the 'point of frustration'? Say, heavy use for a year? 2 years? Hmmm...
Nothing is impossible, it will just need to be disassembled similar to the way the ipads are imo, modern lithium batteries should be able to easily go 2 years of heavy use with no issue.
Apple doesn't allow users to replace batteries. You must send iDevices back to the all mighty to have batteries replaced. Im sure Asus offers the same thing.

If it is a permanent location, then it should have a permanent power source, which means you wouldn't need to run off the battery while using it.
I realize that this an old thread, but I found it while googling and I just want to post a reply in case anyone else comes along.

In it, you can clearly see that the Asus Transformer Prime is very parts replacement friendly. You can replace just about any of the internal pieces, as long as you can figure out how to open the case without damaging it.

Thanks for the video link! Now, I hope things are just as good -- if not better -- with the pending 'Infinity' model
honestly because the battery can last for days without a charge, it cycles much less than say a cell phone. I charge my tab about 1/4 as much as my cell phone with an extended life battery. (Granted overall the phone gets more use) but still I think you can expect at least a good 3-4 years of moderate use before even THINKING about a battery change. For someone like me who uses my tab in spurts depending on the situation I wouldn't be surprised if I have only had about 100 cycles on the battery so far and I've had it 6 months so far.
How did you glue the battery? I used double sided tape but didn't immobilize the battery. Did you use a specific type of glue?

How's your battery doing these days?
Lol, I know it's 2019, but I still have my Prime.
I am also looking for a battery replacement. I mean it is pretty much the only reason making it "old", otherwise it is still very usefull and can always be used as a photoframe if needed
Anyone have any knowledge where a replacement can be found?
I'll take the glue off and reseal it if needed.

Galaxy Note 3 - Battery Update - 10th May 2016

Many of the threads discussing battery replacements in this section are dispersed and old.
However,
I'm asking for help with updated opinions/recommendations/insights please.
I have a Note 3 (5.0) N9005 - original Samsung battery, and it needs replacement.
Problem: As I have a spigen neo hybrid case, I want a battery that fits into the original note 3 cover.
I am looking for safe bets - companies whose batteries are not risky nor untested by members.
Obviously there is the option of another stock Samsung original - but are there established/safe alternatives that will give me better 'juice' than stock, but still fit in the original cover?
My thanks to any that are willing to share their advice/opinions & contribute.
Capt. M
I just recently bought a anker for my note 3 they are trusted and a very respected company. Look for a anker on amazon for your note 3. Yes it will fit same exact size. I use to have neo hybrid. They give you a warranty as well.

Why did you choose the anker over stock?
On the anker website - there also have customer reviews of each product. Some of the note 3 battery reviews are quite poor?
I chose anker because my brother bought one for his note 4 I already knew of anker and needed a battery, he said it was great. Reviews are hit and miss take them with a grain of salt, I've bought a power add Apollo charger and love it works flawless yet on amazon where I bought it many reviews are negative. Also companies can and do hire people for good and bad reviews. The original battery is hard to find unless you directly contact Samsung they can be rather annoying with customer service with my run ins I've had with them over chargers. Most if not all Samsung OEM for note 3 on amazon are knock offs there fake. If I'm unhappy with the battery I can still return it, they gave me and everyone a warranty, they have good packaging and they only use grade A cells, from what I've experienced and my brother I believe they are great. I hope this helps if you need more info message me anytime.

Anker for me long time user.
I'm interested in finding a solution that genuinely gives me an advantage over a samsung oem battery.
Is it true that no oem batteries were produced after 2014?
The manufacture date is printed on the battery. One of the things pushingme away from oem is that they will be 2-3 years old, and kept in storage for a long time.

Now, I see that you want a battery that fits the original cover, but many folks here can recommend the ZeroLemon 10 000 mAh battery. I'm using one.
Advantages:
+ comes with a dual layer TPU case with hard plastic shell;
+ you can get 2 to 3 days of extremely heavy usage, 5, if you are moderate, and a whole week with light usage (once did 6 days with 38% battery left, got tired of trying to drain it all the way and charged it, screenshots attached).
Disadvantages:
- the thing becomes really ugly, thick and heavy, you better have big pockets and strong belts. Yes, that's the only disadvantage. Well, if you change SD or SIM cards frequently, that would be a disadvantage too.
After the first calibration charges and discharges of the battery, it takes some 6 hours to charge from 0 to 100%, but 6 hours of charging for 3 days of extreme usage - that's more than a fair deal for me.
I'm in two minds. Oem vs third party.
Problem with oems are, it seems that the last production run was 2014???
Is it really the case that I'd have to purchase a two year old battery that has been in storage for that time?
First of all I checked my original battery and there is no manufacturing date that I can see, the closest I can come to date is serial number, but no idea how to decode it. Did they put manufacturing date later on?
2. if you want/need original size don't expect big capacity improvements: same size will have similar capacity give or take tolerances and chemistry need to be similar due to charging/ voltage.
3. Especially in the phone which is charged almost daily, number of cycles is more important than age. I have Li ion batteries probably almost 10 yrs old that still work, more or less.
4. There was suspicion that some OEM batt sold around were used and therefore already partially worn out.
5. If you use NFC, make sure the new battery has NFC antenna, some don't and NFC won't work there.
I bought battery called Stalion for about $10, it has NFC antenna, it holds charge as well as new OEM and if it wears out faster than OEM ( so far all's good, 6 months and counting) I'll buy new one for $10, not worth worrying about.
But if Note 6 will be as good as the rumors suggest this is all non issue in 3 months anyway.

Can you give me some more info on no. 4. his is new to me.
When I was looking for OEM batteries on Amazon (some stuff is sold by Amazon partners, not Amazon directly BTW ) some people left comments that batt. they got lasted less than old one they just replaced, some commented that they see scratches, like they were used, some said they didn't get original packaging, another commented that advertising never said those were brand new etc. etc. while others had no problem . Actually if what you said is true about OEM ending production in 2014, all those negative comments begin to make sense. At the end all those negative comments turned me off, to the point I bought off brand (Stalion) and I'm pretty happy with it.
for example here http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Note-Standard-Battery/dp/B00F3583S8 22% gave 1 star, that's one in five.
I like Anker but little luck with this phone for some reason . One works and other doesn't. The Anker do have NFC. Problem with OEM is that most are fake. Have several of those and 2/3 didn't last a month.

Need Battery Recommendations

Hello,
I like the 6P so much I purchased a pair of used phones. One needs a battery and I found ifixit has no intention of ordering more battery replacement kits. Regardless, since one of my 6P's continues to run without issue I need to get the other operational. If anyone knows a person that is skilled at replacing the batteries in these phones please let me know. I am very concerned about letting someone else replace the battery in view of the steps that have to be performed. Damaging the lower plastic cover and upper glass plate seem far to easy to do...
Doesn't look that bad. As long as cheap replacement panels are available don't sweat it.
It has a AMOLED display so anhydrous isopropyl alcohol can be used if needed.
If who's ever doing it has the right tools, skillset and takes their time it should be easily doable.
I've watched all the battery replacement video's I could find and I saw this post regarding an extended battery on aliexpress w/2yr warranty. I just prefer to get more acceptance of this battery before buying it.
New higher capacity battery finished the shutting down problems and gives new life
Recently I replaced the battery of my Nexus 6P that was unusable in a cabinet for a long time due to the shutting down issues. I found on Aliexpress a high capacity battery and I decided to try my luck, changed the battery and I can tell you that...

I also located the original Huawei battery and neither of my 6P's exhibited the power off at moderate battery charge levels so I think I'm clear of that problem. The goal is to use one of these for XDA dev and the other for UBports dev.

I may have found the OEM battery at aliexpress:

However, I emailed Huawei to see if I could get correct information from them before acting. I'll post the response from Huawei if I receive one.
