What does this icon mean? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hello All,
Thanks to everyone who makes this site such a terrific resource. Can anyone tell me what the icon on the attached jpg means? I can't find it in any manual and it appears regularly. :? The icon identified by the red arrow didn't appear on the ROM that came with the phone from TMobile, or at least I never saw it for the year prior to changing ROMs.
T-Mobile USA refuses to enhance their ROM with the wireless modem feature so I got a cooked ROM from http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/ (excellent site btw) and now I'm using the wireless modem feature to my hearts content with a ROM from o2.
Many thanks!

Looks like a missed call icon to me.

Thanks, but I don't think that's it
I get the phone icon with the exclamation point whenever I miss a call. I thought at one time it might be a missed call icon, but it doesn't appear when I call my cell from another line and don't answer. I don't see any connection between this icon and any particular event. It seems to occur completely at random. :?

I think this icon means the radio has just been turned is off and it appears normally as the device starts up after a soft reset and only appears for a couple of seconds as the device loads the radio and finds a connection. I think it's supposed to indicate that you can't make a voice call at this moment.

do you have IACallerID installed? thats the icon that shows when it starts up i think

BINGO! Thanks dabtran!
I just spent the last two hours researching this and came across the Caller ID 1.0 for Pocket PC help file in the windows directory. The very first paragraph describes a not ready icon that will appear. I've played with the photo contacts a bit, but I found it a pain. Anyway, I went back to the photo contacts and added a photo to a contact and an icon like the one I posted showed up only without the 'x'. Then I knew where the icon was coming from. I was just logging on to post my findings when I saw your post. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. :-D

at times callerID get closed down and restarts when that happen that icon is displayed

hey even i get this icon quiet often................. was very curious bout it . but i found out wat it is. wenever ur network in goes off in the sense ur network strenght will show 100 % but it just cuts off for a few seconds and ive noticed if u click on it it just vanishes.so du nworry.its just the network problem. it wont affect ur calls since it lasts for a very small amoutn of time .

sms

Does anyone know a way to know if an sms has indeed been sent away? some Sms's just don't arrive and there is no notice to confirm the fact that it was sent off.
Lionel,
Pocket PC 2003 solves this. It displays a little message bubble when a message has been successfully sent.
I have seen that in Pocket PC 2002, if I write and send a message and turn off the display before the message leaves my phone, it will never go. But it will give you the error messge when you go back into your SMS's.

many thanks, so I guess I'll have to get pcc 2003!

And you can cook it up from here

Go for the 4.00.10
Best of luck
Hi Ranger,
Can I be sure everything will work all right by upgrading to 4.00.10? I read quite some comments about a series of problems and some people going back to previous versions. Isn't it going to bust up my phone settings in Belgium? Someone wrote not to do any upgrades unless your an expert technician.
2. If I do go on with the upgrade can I just use sd-backup and get my stuff back from Sd-card? Isn't that going to restore my old system?
3. I don't know anything about technics. Most of the options on http://cuba.calyx.nl/~jsummers/ROMkitchen/ sound like Chinese to me.
Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I want to make sure I'm not going to run into trouble.
Hi Ranger,
I decided to run the risk anyway. I can probably do a hard reset and backup if I get into deep trouble.
I went to your link, but as I am a complete beginner at this, I got stuck after 'building the rom now'! I asked for the 'Installer.exe' but couldn't find it on my pc. What shoud I do?
greetings,
Lionel
Ok, first off. Back up your XDA ROM to your SD card. I've never done this, but I'm sure once this is done you can copy it to your desk top.
Secondly, yes there is a possability that it will kill your phone. See http://www.xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1624
But I have never had a problem, once I stick to my golden rule. Close EVERY PROGRAM that you possibly can while doing the upgrade. And son't touch your computer while it is doing it as well. It's a tiny price to pay. If you're using USB it shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. With Serial cable, I heard it can take upto 20 minutes, maybe more.
As far as downloading it, after you've selected the options in the ROM kitchen [whici belongs to Jeff Summers by the way, not me ] make sure that the bar up the top is still green, NOT RED.
Next, down the bottom there are three options. For yourself, choose the EXE file. After a few seconds, might take upto 30 seconds, up the top of the screen will be a button to down load your file. Just save it somewhere on your computer and run it.
Make sure that your phone is in it's cradle which should be conntected to your computer [or connect the phone to the computer with a serial or usb cable]. Also make sure that the power cable is plugged in.
I think some people have advised taking out your SIM card but i never have.
That should be it.
Let me know either way. If it messes up, just pray that it's after 5% or 10%, so I hear. If so we can try the second option.

One last thing. Take a note of your Network provider settings [GPRS etc...] before you upgrade. They will not be in the new 2003 image.
I forgot when I was doing mine and no longer have my GPRS settings
Hi Keith,
I'm trying it out right away. I have the backup on the sd-card, so that should work fine.
Just be careful with your SD card. I have heard a few reports that it sometimes gets erased in the PDA. Can't remember when or where but if you search the forum you might find it.
Good Luck. It's worth it.
if all you need are sms delivery reports, just click on options when in the compose sms screen and then click on delivery reports, unfortunately you have to do this for every sms as there doesnt seem to be a way to switch it on permanently.

Does this have a radio update ?

René
Hi,
I've been trying to cook about 20 times since the 1. of August. Tried about everything. Tried all the roms, with and without adding software. Turning off my firewall. Trying all the Rom's. No other programs running.
This is what happens every time:
After selecting the items, I choose the 'install.exe' option and choose 'build rom now'. It starts doing 'something'. I have ADSL and after about 10 seconds the blue bar at the bottom is completed. At the top of the window in the yellow background it keeps saying
'Creating rom... Please be patient
copying rom Files
running mkrom
even after waiting for 30 minutes nothing more happens.
What am I doing wrong?
greetings,
Lionel
Radio Upgrade
@rk
No.
There's no Radio Stack Unit (RSU) Upgrade integrated.
As it depends on the location, where you live, be carefull, which you choose.
For me living in (good ol') Europe the RSU 4.21.00 from O2 UK webside is working.
My native language is Greek and naturally I send Greek sms.
The only problem is that XDA sends them using Unicode character set meaning that over 70 character messages will be splitted.
Does anybody know of any solution on this issue?
I have an O2 payg sim card, even though I ask for delivery reports on sms each time I dont get them, reason being the remaining balance comes in as an sms which cancels the process somehow. Has anybody got a solution to this?
regarding the last, on o2, put *0# in the subject line, and the main sms in the body.

Thank you very much, that worked a treat, I was told by somebody to put that *0# before the fone number, no wonder it didnt work, thanks again.

Phone app won't end without a soft reset.

Hi sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find any relevant info on the boards...
The problem is with the phone app. Once the device has been used to make a telephone call, the phone app stays running and will not end (i'm using the switcher) unless I perform a soft reset with the stylus.
If I make say three phone calls I end up with 3 instances of the phone app running and not being able to end them?
Any Ideas?
Thanks
Dean
Do you really end up with three copies running, or are you speculating? That would be very strange. It is normal for it to remain running, but I've never seen more than one copy running. There is no way to close it, even with a task switcher (have tried three).
If i am not mistaken your using WM2003 4.00.05
If this is the case it happened to me on hourly basis so i downgraded to 4.00.01 & it works well.
I think its a bug and sometime you see the call meter still running but the actuall call has ended more u cant stop it but by soft resetting.
If ure using this version of WM2003 then your only soltion change the ROM version
I have had my TMo xda for almost a year now, and have used every version of PPC2002 and WM2003 to date, and in every version I have noticed that you cannot close the phone app as well, but I have never noticed multiple instances simultaneously, except that the call log window does sometimes show as an additional instance. So to see two instances of the phone app running is not unusual. I have never seen more than two instances running though, and closing the call log does seem to close the second instance.
David
thanks for the replies...
You are correct about there being only 2 instances of the phone app running, there are never more than that.
i'm using the developers rom v1.1 r 4.21.00
The phone instances simply wont end using either the task manager or switcher. The phone shows the last number I dialed, which I can't get rid of. also to the left of the contact name just above the phones erase button, there is a little "m".?
I have the developers rom 1.2 and I can close the phone app ok, I just go to the switchers "lightening bolt" thing in the right hand top corner, click, click and its gone.
The "m" you see is the confirmation that you are calling the number which appears in the 'Mobile field of the contact record. The last number called cannot be removed without 3rd party software. Nothing to worry about and probably not worth fixing.
Um, you know you can turn the phone app off by tapping on the signal strength meter or pressing and holding the red ph button ?
Hi, yes I did know you could turn the phone of this way, but the phone wouldn't actually end.
Last night I upgraded to the v1.2 rom, problem had dissapeared. Thanks for your help.

[Q] HD2 Clock Keeps changing time.. Annoying...

Hello all.
I have a little, but very annoying problem on my HD2. Im on 3.14, 3.03, WWE flashed with SSPL (previously was blocked on a ****ty NLD (dutch) version rom)
All is working fine, ive installed many apps, and games.
However, it seems when i exit some games (tower defence is very buggy, or gameloft Ferrari game), i go back to the home screen and i notice the clock has changed time. But im not sure its the games that do that, i just dont know what makes it change.
Say its 9.15, it will be 11.15. If its 7.20, it will show 9.20.
It seems it always adds 2 hours on my time. How come? Data connection is always turned off (i dont wanna use it) and its not connected to internet, so it cannot check internet time. But why is it doing this suddenly? wasnt doing this a few days ago, and i havnt really installed new stuff in those pas few days.
Thanks in advance for all explanations
Afgter having looked into the problem, it appears it is because of GMT zones and IGO8 nav programme.. any one else had a similar problem with the software?
I think it syncs gps time (greenwich) and this is what creates the problem, or at least the software is inteferring with the phone... damn..
Nobody else has this problem? I thought it was from IGO8 programme, but now when i exit some games, it also changes the time by 1 hour. Why is this? The minutes are always correct, its just the hour that jumps 1 or 2 hours..
This is really frustrating.. Anyone has some help suggestions? (apart from buying a proper watch? )
Thx!
Assuming that you have the correct time zone, then the problem is that the phone is getting its timing from the phone network.
Settings -> Menu -> All Settings -> Personal -> Phone -> GSM\UMTS Services -> Time Synchronization -> Get Settings. Untick 'Automatic change time zone and clock'.
Thanks buddy for the clear answer. I didnt even know those setting were available via the "MENU" in the seetings
But i set all time zones correctly, why was it changing the thing? Im GMT+1, and everywhere in my phone it was put in as GMT+1, so why would it add another hour? Anyways, time will tell
Get a +thanks! Will report back to see if time doesnt get distorted again
This is a general problem in HD2 phones all over Europe and all over different ROMs
There are already a lot of threads about it (search "winter time change") and the only solution offered by HTC until now is to switch off time sync completely (in personal -phone settings and settings HTC time sync)
HTC already promised a solution to several members of XDA as posted 3-4 weeks ago but still has no solution to it.

[Q] Tray Icon Issue...

Hey Everyone..im new here
I recently bought a GalaxyS2, and noticed something..now, just thought maybe someone to confirm this with me.
After installing an app..for example, SKYPE....
Whenever I reboot the phone, during the media scanning process, The icon tray at the bottom gets replaced by these apps I downloaded for a couple seconds during the boot up (scanning).
Is this normal? Like i mentioned..the phone icon in the lower tray, gets replaced with Skype..and after the scanning of the media is complete..it reverts back to the phone icon.
This normally happens with all 3 icons, except for the applications icon...so basically during the startup of the phone, all first 3 icons, are replaced with the 3 other app icons for a couple seconds.
Sorry for the repetition here...just thought id try make myself clear
Any feedback MUCH appreciated..
PEACE from South Africa!
R
"BUMP" Any advice much appreicated...

Random SMS dissapears

Hi all
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but as it's a general Android issue i thought this was the best one to post in.
I have had this for a while since i have been using ICS Roms and I wondered if anyone else has had it
I use a abacus Bluetooth watch which among other things vibrates and displays when I receive a sms
Sometimes I have noticed that if I get a sms it displays on the watch but it does not appear on the phone at all, not in the message app or notification bar
But weird is that today it happened and as I saw the text on the watch but again it did not appear anywhere on the phone so I sent a reply and straight away their 2nd text appeared as normal so it's not even down to a certain contact
I've checked all settings that I can think of and it can't be anything to do with the watch software as that only displays what the phone receives
I used to have ARHD installed until I Tried Elegencia and have had the same issue with both, maybe it's a ics issue ?
I have posted this in the Rom thread but thought that this may be a wider issue
Would love to hear if anyone has the same issue
Thanks
