Help needed to resolve "Not allow operation!" - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

When trying to flash my QTek using MTTY, I am getting the "Not allow operation!" message once I type the 'l c:\myrom.bin' command. Basically, whenever I type the l (load) command, this error message shows up.
I am using QTek Himalaya with WM2003 first edition. I tried quite a number of methods, but still blocked by this message. Please help!!

I heard that I might need to unlock my bootloader, is this possible?
I am having ver 1.02 bootloader on my Qtek.

I want to know too. Can anyone help!!

Please help

Hi there...
How to solve the "NOT ALLOW UPDATE"... )
First you have to create your "own" SD backup and save it's header as a file somewhere...
Then, grab another's device SD backup and replace it's header with your own, from the saved file...
The header is everything from the offset 0x0 up to red line - offset 0x17F.
After it's replaced, insert your SD card into your device and reboot to bootloader mode. Wait few seconds till the device shows: "Press Power to Flash"
...so press it...
Once done flashing, it will say something about chacksum error... just forget it... and reboot + hardreset..
that's it...

I did full SD backup
d2s 80000000 02000000
d2s 60000000 00300000 sd a
d2s 70000000 01080000 sd a
What parts should be in "another's device SD backup " ? (and where can I find it )

Hi
Does anyone know how to unlock the bootloader inorder to run commands like 'l c:\myrom.bin using the MTTY program.
Thanks

Error Message When Upgrading ROM........Please help!

Hi All,
I wonder if someone could give me a little advise on a ROM problem.
When trying to upgrade to ANY ROM image & get the following error message:
"ERROR: GetConnectionType - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.....
..Error Getting connectiontype"
Then the ROM program closes & goes no further....>Doh!!
I have done a soft & hard re-boot, re-installed MS ActiveSync & even tried on another PC.
Please help!
did you follow this guide to upgrade ?
Ok here you go, its a little outdated but its what I still use:
Qman's how to use XDArit to write nk.nb1 or nk.nbf to your SD card aka the Bootloader Method!
1. Place XDArit and the nk.nb1 or nk.nbf file in the same folder and start XDArit.
2. Select your SD card (disk drive) from the drop down menu.
3. Select Write to SD
Notice that the Windows CE box is already checked so just click the browse button at the end of that window.
4. Select your (nk.nb1 or nk.nbf) image and then Open
Notice by default XDArit will open looking for a *.nb1 file but if you're going to use a .nbf file you'll have to manually change the "Files of Type" to *.nbf
Notice that nk.nbo / nk.nbo was automatically added as your boot-loader and its check box is unchecked so leave it that way and click OK. XDArit should start writing to the card.
When XDArit has finished writing the image put the SD-card into the XDA and hold the power button and soft reset. You'll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a "Soft Boot/Reset".
Click to collapse
Yes, I certainly tried to follow instructions to the letter & don't think I missed anything.
Any other ideas guy?
what bootloader version is it ?
here is a bit about different bootloaders

Thanks very much. I have now got the latest XDA 1 ROm from the o2 website & have installed the latest radio stack update too.
However I now have no signal! have also tried several other SIM cards & no joy..
Strange..

Please...
ive got 1.72, but when i try that. it says country error.??
can that be resolved.. i dont mind loading 1.72.
the good news is that it seems you still have the boot loader working ... use ER2003 tool to modify the country code of the 1.72 ROM file ... or you can use the xda2nbftool.exe if you like the command line mode
thakns, but i have the 1.72 as an exe file. can i use er2003 to edit the file ??

Unpack the .exe file with winrar/winzip. And you're good to go.
Edit this file: ms_.nbf
managed to unpack it... now when i try to load 1.60 it says model id error & if i try to load 1.72 it says country id error.
what do i change in the ms_.nbf file ????
do i only change this file fields or all three??
i even removed the battery & checked the model ID. on my phone it says PH10B
i changed all the three files to PH10B ..
Now i get Connection Error.....
Now what???
now the error is ERROR 101... connection error.
(i'm loading 1.60)
also is it possible for me to do it via my emory card (i have a MMC32MB & 128MB)
if so, what file do i need to copy & then whats the procedure??
i got 1.03.00 rom on mine. my xda 2 is 2 days old now dunno wht rom to load it up with now. whts the best & safe rom now. i have no apps or nething to back up so its oki. the phone was bought from u.k. and was locked on O2 network. now its unlocked and being used in India. plz advise wht ROM to d/n and use. if possible the d/n link as well. thx
Question?
Why do you want to downgrade your phone?
For upgrade to 1.72:
1. Download i-mate 1.72 update and xda2nbftool
2. unpack that update to any directory on your harddrive
3. download script from this post to created directory (unpack it too)
4. copy xda2nbftool.exe to that directory
5. run provided script
6. insert XDA2 to cradle and then HimaUpgradeUt.exe
You will i-mate splash screen from i-mate though, but working device.
thanks for all the help. but im yet getting country ID error even after running the process .
this process basically converts the id to O2, in a batch dos mode... right??
then y is the problem yet there.
i wonder... most O2 XDA II come with 1.6 rom version. mine came with 1.66. could that mean its not O2 even though its written O2 on my phone? could it mean its T-Mobile or something??
can someone post a link or software that i need to put onto my MMC card & then use that to install the rom from the card inserted in the phone??

So, what's that problem? Can you run it?
Try to run it in command prompt... And if it writes any error, post it here...
Can you access the file system of your XDA2 from ActiveSync -> Explore?
now i managed to get the problem of Country error out of the way , but now im getting the ERROR 101 - Connection Error.
no i cannot browse any files & my active sync does not show connected.
what files do i need to copy paste onto my MMC card so that i can flash it by executing the files with the camera button & the MMC Card inserted??
im dowloading the NTRW & 1.72 NK.nb1 file. do i just copy & paste it on the mmc card & then instert the card into the phone & then press the camera button.. should this do the trick??
this is all that i have tried so far... yet no luck.
my phones originally from malaysia , its an O2 XDA II
i have the following rom with me. my bootloader is V1.06
1. RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1
2. XDA_IIupgrade_v16050
3. RUU172104wwe-t-mobile-uk
1. i removed the battery , dcoked the phone, connected the charger to the docking bay at the back...the red light on the phone lights up.... the bootloader screen shows up ina slightly distorted manner.
i then ran all the three roms as it is..without editing anthing. The error i get in all the three times is ERROR 101. CONNECTION ERROR. it tells me to check is usb is connected, charger is connected usb port is conencted & the phone is on. .......... everythings connected but obviously phone can only be in bootloader mode.
2. i put the battery back in dock the phone, the charger is yet connected to the back of the docking bay. .. i try all three installations withour extracting or editing as they are exe files..... now, all the three times i get COUNTRY ID ERROR OR MODEL ID ERROR.
3. when i edit the ones that give me model id error then i get CONNECTION ERROR AGAIN. (this is again with the battery in & charger plugged in)
i downloaded the NTRW & 1.72 NK.nb1 file. but the one that is available on this forum is corrupted. so i cannot extract it.
NTRW ive downloaded seperately. i need the nb1 file now. can someone post a working, no-corrupted image rom image file?
once i get the correct Rom.nb1 file... all i have to do it copy & paste the correct rom.nb1 & ntrw.exe file onto my MMC card & keep the battery in the phone & insert the MMC card & press the Camera button .... is that correct? i'm guessing that this will run the ntrw exe file & load (dump) the Rom.nb1 file onto the phone. is that correct?
please do let me know what else i can try & dowload a newer RUU or something. i think the best way is to SD flash the phone.
i dont even mind flashing it to a PPC2002 version & then upgrading it from there. if thats possible.
As far as the connection between the USB Docking Bay is concerned,...everytim i connect or disconnect the phone, i hear the familiar XP "TING" which shows that some USB thing is connected, but my active sync does not show that the phones connected, i guess that cause it got no rom in it.
Also when i edit the ms_ / NK / Rom files er2003 i get an error everytime i start the software, but i just press IGNORE & continue. i always get ROM successfully written & then the error pops up again but i keep pressing ignore. this works... but whats up with the CONNECTION ERROR. IF ITS NOT CONNECTING TO THE PHONE, HOW DOES IT KNOW THAT THE MODEL ID OR COUNTRY ID WRONG ???
Ok.
If any ROM update can detect your device (as we can see error messages COUNTRY ID ERROR or MODEL ID ERROR), there is hope, you can update your device.
If it's 1.72 ROM (that writes COUNTRY ID ERROR or MODEL ID ERROR), use the solution I send you few posts ago (unpacking, running batch script etc.)
When you updating, keep battery in your device and charger of device connected to cradle! Don't remove anything.
BTW: Don't use RUU172800WWE_CDL_SKU1 update, it just update only part of your device (ExtROM)!
BTW2: Read this: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing
thanks againa beecher. the problem is that once i use the patch & then run it. it does not show me the country id or model id error (for which i thank you) but then it says error connecting.
i have a USB to serial connector. should i try serial connection?? or maybe try it on another computer.
can anyone please tell me how do to a SD flash step by step with the Rom.nb1 file attachment of link.

"Not allow update" from bootloader 1.06 at cold bo

Hi there, I created a SD-Card with the 3 d2s commands and could restore a dead Qtek 2020 with bootloader 1.02 . The same SD-Card used on another dead Qtek 2020 with bootloader 1.06 brings the infamous "Not allow update" message at cold boot time  .
Any  hints to circumvent this protection?
Thanks,
at the beginning of the SD card image is a "signature" of each device.
first create SD image on that dead device and save the SD header.
replace the header of 'good' image with the header from 'dead' device.
it should be ok after that...
search the forum... it is described somewhere here...
good luck

Receiving Error 011: in trying to unlock XDA1

I've been trying for several weeks now to unlock my XDA1 Wallaby without success. Some members have tried to help but no joy. In trying to load the Special Edition ROM I get the Error 011 message per the attached screen grab. Can anyone tell me why this is occurring and what the solution is? My current device ROM is version 4.01.16ENG, Radio Version 6.25.02, Protocol version 32e4.
Any help with this frustrating issue would be much appreciated. Willing to make a phone call if you can help. Thanks.
It´s a very easy solution.
Your installed ROM prohibits flashing via Exe....
Extract the special Edition ROM with winzip or anything else. You got an folder called English. In this folder is a file NK.nbf with about 32 MB. This File you will need for flashing via SD-Card.
Instructions how to flash via SD could be found here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_FlashSD
Here
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_Unlock2
are complete instructions what you have to to to unlock your device.
Step 6 is not a must. If you get an error Message you should be able to process without downgrading the bootloader....
Stefan
Stefan,
Thanks for your response. I followed the instructions you pointed me to but they are a little unclear. I first copied the ROM image to my SD Card while in my device (I later assumed the instructions meant to write the ROM image to the SD Card via a card reader, which I don't have).
After downloading to the SD Card in my device I held the power button and soft reset which displayed on screen the message:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
However, nothing happens in touching ACTION on the screen to download. What do I do?
Thanks, David
Don´t know, what you are meaning with "touching ACTION" put you have to press the center of the navigation button on your device to start installation.....
Using the XDA-SD-Slot is also ok. You just have problems if anythhing went wrong, and you don´t have access to this slot any more....
Stefan
Stefan,
Thanks for your reply. I've sent a response to your personal email address.

Major Problem with XDA

Hi all, first post from an XDA newbie - be gentle!!
I've inherited an 02 XDA from my brother as it's not working & he's upgraded.
I'm trying desperately to get this thing to work. He installed the xda-developers Special Edition ROM V1.2 (according to the front screen - it says in red in the bottom corner 3.17.83 , it also has a red G and R above this)
It doesn't seem to hold a charge very long, which suggests the internal battery is dead. I've read about the light in the top right corner of the unit - I've never seen this lit except once when it went red for a few seconds.
When its sat in the cradle, it seems to work ok. I've checked the Version etc, and it reads:
ROM 3.17.03 ENG
ROM Date: 5.15.03
Radio Version:
Protocol:
I want to reinstall the XDA ROM to see whether it works with the "official" ROM.
I've tried to do a soft reset, I get the stripey screen with WALLABY BootLoader V5.22. After the WAIT sign, I get GSM ERROR, which ties in with the above Version Info in that there is no Radio Version number?
When I press the Action key, I see GSM turn ON Please Wait - then after waiting I get GSM turn ON fail!!
Can anyone tell me how to do the following:
1) Get the official operating system from the o2 website onto an SD Card
2) Get the XDA to boot from the new operating system
I can see from the 02 website that there are 2 downloads, RUU and RSU. I guess one is the OS and one is the radio unit (gsm settings??)
I have a laptop with SD Card reader built in, and a blank 256mb SD Card.
I apologise for the length of this posting, but I have no idea what I'm doing really! Any advice / help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Steve
PS - also tried a hard reset, but first press switches off the unti, and it stays off after the second press - HELP!!!!
YOur GSM Part is corrupt.
Flashing a new ROM wouldn't solve the problem....
Try this:

Stefan
thanks Stefan.
I read the link, how do I install the ROM to the XDA unsing SD Cardreader & Bootloader?
Sorry for the obvious questions - I appreciate your help!
Steve
this is just rom though not radiostack

Thanks guys, you've been really helpful.
I'll report back when I've tried to do all this stuff.
One more question - I've only got a 64Mb SD Card, is that big enough?
ALSO - in the instructions it says "Select your Rom Image from the Source drop down menu. "
Which file is the ROM image?
nk.nb1 or nk.nbf
and yes 64MB should be enough
The mystery deepens -
I've put the SD Card in the card reader, but when I use XDATools, i can't select the SD Card as the destination for the ROM image file.
I click on the Removable "E" drive in the Explorer style layout, but it's almost like the tool is wantingme to select something, but i don't know what!
FYI, the SD card already has some data on it ( I took it out of my Dads Digital camera!) Could this be the problem?
Thanks
