What is the easyest way to switch to another EXT ROM ?
(Sorry for asking that stupid question , but I been out of the forum for a few month , so I have no clu what to do . By the way SEARCH giving me tons of info on something else)
The easiest way is probably to get an extened rom unlocker (so you can get to the files in it), then changes the files in it that you want then hard reset should reinstall the rom. Remember that you have to change the config.txt file to make it install all the new cabs that you put in there.
The way that I have done it when making custom roms though is to get the offical latest upgrader, use winRar to extract all the files in the exe. Then I swap the extended rom with the one that I want (I make my own using er2003edit, you can find it in the wiki). Then I just run the normal upgrade.
Either way, it requires a hard reset.

does anyone know how to or where to get the software to make my camera work because i cant get the ext rom installed thanks
The camera app should auto install after a hard reset, if not i think you can unlock the extended rom then run the cab file that installs the camera app.
The best way is modified your ROM by Extended ROM unlocker and put CAMERA-cab file from another extended ROM in Ext.ROM ,then Hard reset.
this second way ,if you don't wanna hard reset, is just copy Camera-cab file and then activate it by use file explore and click it. By the way ,you still need to copy CAMERA-cab file to Ext.ROM via extended ROM unlocker. If you don't put it in your Ext.ROM, next time you hard reset you will need to activate it again.
For Extended ROM unlocker ,you can use "search" and find it in this forum.
For CAMERA cab file, again, it came from many ROM version. I suggest you to use the newest version from T-mobile 1.72 or from i-mobile 1.72.
here is Extended ROM unlocker
Just a little info -I discovered at the weekend. I have been playing with the wm5 1.60a for a while and in orfder to save space in the storage i have installed a lot of programs on the extended_rom partition. I renamed this via the registry. Don't do this !as it really screws things up. You end up with two extended rom plabels in explorer and you can not rename them back. I have had to reinstall wm5 1.60a
I dont see any problem installing program in Extended ROM. All you have to make sure is you have to rename the Extended ROM BEFORE you install anything.
If you rename it AFTER then surely you are going to be screwed. Because the program installed in the extended ROM is registered in the registry as whatever name the extended ROM when the program are installed.
Can you please be more specific with your problem. If not I think your post is "misleading".
True
In summary you are correct. I should have renamed Extended_rom before installing programs to it.
However when you reset the machine the operating system creates a new folder called extended rom and puts the renamed extended rom data and programs in it.
The original renamed folder with the memory chip icon is also present in the directory view so the data appears twice.
odd to say the least
I dont have the problem that you described.
When I install WM5 v 1.60a. I immediately rename it to "STORAGE" then install program in it. I have been using version 1.60 for more than a week now and I have countless Soft Reset even Hard Reset(Persistent memory right?) and no double folder and anything.
Just follow my advice and rename it at the beginning. I am sure you wont have the problem.

So is there a way I can do this on my G4 8125? I've been trying, but have not been successful.
Extended ROM basically consists of large number of CAB files. Go to the ftp and get hold of some of the ROM packages in ZIP format and unzip the EXT rom. Unlock your EXT ROM and replace everthing with the one you've downloaded. Done.
Personally, I don't use Ext Rom. Upon hard reset, I just skip the Ext Rom installation and I install my stuff manually, which I think gives more flexibility. I had my phone backup-ed into an EXE file which I can use when I hardreset next time.
I don't know how to unlock it, and I can't even stop my Cingular one from installing every time.
To stop it from installing, upon hardreset, softreset your phone just after the security option (eg when it asked you to set your PIN for the phone). It should skip installing the EXT ROM.
I'm not sure if it is read only or not, but you can try. Download and open Total Commander (for PPC), at the top section of TC, enter this
Code:
\Extended_ROM
It will show you stuff in your Ext Rom. See if you can overwrite it.
If the extended_rom is protected like in G3 >2.xx SPLs then you have no luck there. Even if you change something and it looks like it worked you'll get bad checksums on next soft-reset and all data in extended-rom will be deleted

exactly what happened to me.
after it had bad checksums, strange characters and folders, i formatted the extemded rom using wizard service tool ver 4.2.1
now my extended rom is empty... but i have a copy of it on the PDA in a different folder and on my PC.
Is there a way to restore it?

Absolutely. Simply use WST and select the "Write ROM" option. Then select "Extended ROM" and upload the backup from your PC.
Hi All,
Is there any way to build own ExtROM?
Thanks
I'm in the process of reverting my Hermes back to a T-Mobile UK ROM for Windows Mobile 5 using My Vanx guide but I can't exrtract the entended ROM from the ROM I have. Can anyone help me out?
I have a rar file of the contents of the t-mobile uk ext rom, if thats what you need?
Yes please, that would be great. Is that what I need to revert back to WM 5?
Well, ideally I think you can just overwrite the ext rom contents then do the rom downgrade, then hard reset and the ext rom contents will install.
I havent done it myself though.
Here's the zip, rar's not allowed apparently.
Thanks, I'll give it a try this afternoon and let you know how it goes.
That would be appreciated, just in case I have a warranty issue......
I'm trying to get it back due to a warranty issue (white appears as yellow).
Anyway, the extended ROM downloaded okay, however it didn't contain the Herm_extendedRom.nb as stated here. I've got the PrimarySplash.nb, SecondarySplash.ng and Windows.nb files from decompiling the NBH file, and now I'm stuck in a dead end.
Oh. you're doing that, I dont have the nbh file im afraid, what I was doing was leaving the extended rom alone when flashing rom updates so the original contents will work.
The main reason I didnt bother deleting the original ext rom is that the files dont actually run under wm6 and I dont really have any use for the ext rom.
Theoretically if you replace the contents of the ext rom with the contents of the zip then do the downgrade stuff wthout selecting the ext rom nbh file it might work. since I seem to recall that the ext rom contents were run by a prompter file in the windows directory from the original t-mobile OS rom after you first hard reset.
Might be worth seeing if anyone can clarify this though, as I said, I havent downgraded as yet.
Sounds like it might work, or just trying to flash without the Extended ROM, and then running the cab files seperately afterwards, but I'd like to seek clarification before doing so.
There is a way to cook athen extended rom?
Al i try atm is:
-Htc ext rom editor, seems not working (error:invalid file format)
-I opened the extendedrom with winimage,i can add romeve files,i modify the file config.exe with the changes i do,i rebuild the extrom, rebuild the nbh and flash it to my device;when wm6 start to install the ext rom cabs and exe, seems the files i put in are ok,it start maybe to read them but i think it skip the installation and after the reset no programs are installed.I try to put in 1 exe and some different cabs, but i have always the same problem.Sure i'm doing something wrong,or maybe i forgave something, but i can only find information for other devices and not for the athena.
Maybe some can help (like olipro ).
Ty all
uhm noone tryed to cook extended rom yet?
if u would of search and read u would of seen there is no way to write to extended rom yet. u can see whats in it and maybe delete whats in it but not write to it. you have to wait till we have figured this out.
