Can't install PhonExt on XDA WM2003 - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

First off, after realising that i needed to unlock my SX56 and ATT/Cingular/Siemens weren't going to help, I ran across the forum. Had a new ROM cooked and running in almost no time at all! Thanks to everyone!
Here's my question: I'm running a slighly modified "A.30.09 ENG Siemens" ROM on a Siemens SX56 (Wallaby). I downloaded PhonExt 1.2 and copied the file to my XDA, but I can't get it to install. I've searched a lot, and read a lot of posts, but I guess Im missing something. I just get a "SetupPhoneExt_PPC2002 is not a valid Pocket PC Application" error message. (I tried running it on my desktop as well, just to make sure I didn't need to that and copy it over...")
Any help would be appreciated.

Try this...
Make sure the .exe file or a shortcut to the .exe file is in your Startup folder on your SX56: My Device\Windows\StartUp\PhoneExt.exe.
After placing this file in your StartUp folder, soft reset, the program will load.
You should see an icon in your system tray when the program is active.

can't even get phonext.exe
I can't get phonext.exe. The file i downloaded from the phonext website is the SetupPhoneExt_PPC2002.exe, which i can't run. Do I need anything other than just the "phonext.exe" file itself? Can I just copy the phonext.exe file from someone, or do I need to run the setup?

am running wm2003 - does that matter?
I'm running wm2003 -- does that make a difference?

You will need to run that setup file from your desktop. I have a copy of SetupPhoneExt_PPC2002.exe that I just ran from my desktop with no problems at all. It is strange that you cannot run the setup file from your desktop. Are you getting an error message or will the file just not run?
I am running Windows 2000 on my desktop. My SX56 is running WM2003 with A.30.09 ENG ROM, and Activesync 3.8.
I am not sure just copying the PhonExt.exe file from my SX56 and emailing to you would work, but I can if you would like.

It worked!
I don't know what was different when I ran it this time, but whatever it was seemed to have worked.
Thanks llwhipll!

O2 settings on an XDA with the T-mobile 1.72 Beta ROM

I have installed the T-mobile 1.72 Beta ROM update on my O2 XDA. Everything has installed just fine and it appears to be working great. The addition of the Fax module is really welcome although a little buggy has allowed me to send a number of faxes.
The BT stack now gives me an extra option on my Widcom BT software on my desktop pc. It seems much more stable than the O2 stack.
My only problem is that all my MMS, SMS, GPRS and WAP settings are for T-Mobile UK and not O2 Ireland. I have tried to enter them manually with little success.
After reading through some of the other threads would it be possible to take the relevant cab files from an O2 1.60 (latest ROM) Extended ROM and copy them onto my PDA and then run them to install the settings? I also miss the O2 Active screen and would like to install that as well. If this is possible could and please tell me that it is!!!! Would someone be kind enough to send me the relevant Cab files?
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice.
Paul
I think its posted on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8515
On page 2. There is a modified extendend rom.
Thanks for the mail
I have downloaded the extended ROM that you mentioned but it seems to just contain the T-Mobile stuff. I would like a copy of the O2 Extended ROM if possible and just install the O2 settings and Active.
Thanks
Paul
If you have an old backup, you can replace that with the new one you have now. And then runt the desired CAB files (Camera, mms, andsoon) from the new 1.72 upgrade.
Here you go mate...
Attached is a ZIP file, containing a folder.
In it, are ALL the O2 files found in an O2 Extended ROM, as per 1.60.00 ROM Upgrade, O2 WWE.
I am not sure exactly which CAB is the settings file (can anyone tell me what the GPRS settings file CAB is called in an extended ROM), so you will have to find it yourself.
It also includes the O2 Active stuff.
Hope it helps.
Download it quick, becuase I'm not sure the legalities of posting it here, and also its a big file, so using up a lot of my space, so I wanna delete it soon.
Thanks
Thanks Shadamehr
I downloaded the ROM ran the Cabs and I now have O2 connection settings and O2 active. Thank you so much.
My next project is to copy the o2 files to the extended 1.72 ROM so that if I require a hard reset it will install the O2 stuff and the newer 1.72 files etc.
Out of interest the application for unhiding and unlocking the Extended ROM requires the sending of "arguments" how do you do this on Pocket PC. i am familiar with doing this on a desktop PC. Any help would again be appreciated.
Thanks to you all.

Er, you've totally lost me mate.
For the Unlocker, all I do, is copy the cab file for it over to my XDA2, then use File Manager on the XDA2 to locate the file, and click to run.
This installs it.
Then, if you go into programs, there is a new folder, next to games, for the extRom tools.
Open that, and you can hide/unhide, and lock/unlock the extended ROM.
It sometimes requires a soft reboot.
When it is unlcoked and unhidden, you can simply delete all files in it, and copy the whole O2 folder contents into it that I posted.
Then, after a hard reset, it will install all the programs in the extended rom.
Not sure what all these 'argument' things are you mention mate, sorry.
Sorted!!!
Did not see the programme group had been using the application via the file explorer and it was asking for "arguments". Thanks for the help.

ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR

Hi guys,
I have to compliment Stefan for personally e-mailing me back about a problem I was having and pointing me here. Hopefully I can become a little less clueless through the forums.
When using kitchen, I get the ROM.EXE update. I understand I run this on my PC. My phone is a Wallaby, with WM2003 first edition. I've written down my t-mobile settings and I'm ready to flash it. However, when attempting to run the ROM.EXE program, I getting the following error:
Code:
ERROR 011: EXECUTE REMOTE COMMUNICATION PROGRAM ERROR
Cannot execute the remote communication progra,
Please make sure that the USB/Serial cable is properly connected.
The phone is connected to the PC directly over USB through it's cradle and I have ActivSync 3.7.1 running. Any ideas what my problem could be?[/code]

Alrighty, after reading those, I figured I had to write the WM2k3SE ROM to a SD card. After extracing the NK.NBF from the ROM.EXE I have to a directory, I fire up the XDA OS IMAGE TOOL and select it in the SOURCE. I choose "SD CARD" for my destination and produce the following error:
Code:
NK.NBF: Incorrect Filesize(33554464), file size should be exactally 32505888 bytes. Error opening input file.
A quick search of the forums didn't show anything that might apply. According to these wiki instructions this looks like the correct thing to do. Is it possible that I have a bad kitchen rom?
Because of an different Memory Usage of the WM2003SE ROM, thes ROMs could only be flashed via EXE. OSImagetool used for writing this file to SD-Card reports an incorrect Filesize. If you have installed a T-Mobile ROM that prohibits upgrading via EXE-File (you get an error in the DOS-Box) you have to downgrade your phone to 3.17.03 via SD-Card and then use the WM2003SE ROM....
OK, but is the procedure I'm following correct? Download a WM2003FE ROM.EXE at version 3.17.03 and then extract the NK.NKF from the executable and flash with that? This will allow me to use the ROM.EXE of my WM2003SE kitchen image instead of using the OSI tool? (If this works, I'm going to go add to the wiki).

Custom ExtROM Issues

Hi all, i normally make custom roms for our devices but am having issues with this one, its about to be the 1st Hermes in space [coz i am gonna strap it to a firework and send it skyward ]. I have the ExtROM unhider, i remove all the rubbish, i add my custom read-only cab's [all signed btw] edit my config.txt, then hard reset the device. All looks ok on the loading stage, you see my cabs being called and run, but they move on to the next file far to fast, and when i check the programs installed after, its not there, so its skipping the cab files. No errors on load, nothing, if u run the files manually they work but i did noticed they say "Unknown Publisher" on the certificate part of the install. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to overcome this please.
Thank you in advance
EViLOPTiC
Hermes startup is full security mode. Your CABS need to be signed by a trusted root CA and you might even need the more secure provider level signature (although I'm not sure of this).
V1605
Hey EViLOPTiC,
IK see you are having the same problem as I'm having with my V1605.
I had a Qtek 9000 before did the ext Rom modification had no problem, I had a Signed disable security cab which I run in the cab first then all the another after no problem.
Now with this pda the signed cab still says it is not signed I've tryed anothe 3 another disable security cab but with the same issue.
All we need is a signed cab file that well modify the register 0000101a from 1 to 0 put that in the Extended Rom followed by all the another cab file we want to install.
Where can we find this cab.
PLEASE SOMEONE HELP US PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Thanks

Newbie to the Community-old SX56

Hi there- I inherited an SX56- but can't seem to download new proggies to it! Not too sure if it has PC2002 or 2003, but i can tell you it has:
ROM Version 3.17.03 ENG
Radio: A.20.10
I tried using installing ActiveSync- but I guess I need a serial key or something.
Since I couldn't find a post on how to build with current updates- can someone reply or re-direct to a post that lists what I need to make this baby current so I can install some of the cool utilities for this PDA?
Thanks again!
PS: Im running XDA-developers SW on this baby!
activesync can be freely downloaded from ms's site
and require not serial
if it ask for code when you connect your pda it's the pda's
user set code it wants
ok- got the latest active sync- 4.5 build. I still can't seem to successfully run .msi files or .cab files to and from the sx56. I tried dropping the .cab files to different directories- since its probably looking for PPC2002 files as well to run the program. I also downloaded CNET framework v2.0.2...still can't seem to install programs onto the pocket PC
any ideas?
Cheers!
i think msi files was ment to run from the pc not the ppc

[Q] how do i run CustomRUU

Please please help
I have read lots of threads and have downloaded the radio i need (2.07.50.27) to run the rom i need (sense 2.5 cookie). It says to Rename the extracted file to "RUU_Signed.nbh" (already is named that when extracted) and flash with the CustomRUU.
When I try to run CustomRUU through the handset it says it is not a pocketPC application. When I try to run it through the computer, nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in hoping

Hello mate!
First of all: You have HSPL instaled on your device?? If the answer is YES, you could continue.
The CustomRUU.exe is a app for PC, so you need to run it on a PC not on your HD2, OK?!
So, to it work the way it is designed to work, you need to run it as admin (right click on the CustomRUU.exe and select RUN AS ADMIN...).
In case it does not work, you could flash the radio via SDcard (rename the NBH file to LEOIMG.nbh and put it on your SDcard. Enter in the bootloader and it will tell you what to do.)
Read here for more usefull info about flashing your LEO: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
Keep reading dude!
Hope it helps!
if customruu does absolutely nothing when you try to run it, chances are your anti virus program has disabled it. You need to turn off your av, and then download it again. (just turning off av is not enough, because it has already disabled customruu as soon as you downloaded it.)
I have the same issue.
HSPL is installed on the phone,
active sync is on,
and I have renamed the radio file and put it in same folder as the customruu.exe
I am running it as the administrator (no antivirus on the computer)
Nothing happens when I double click.
I have tried changing radio files, but still no luck.
I have downloaded customruu from 2 different sources to make sure its not corrupt.
Any ideas?

firstly, no need to rename the nbh file.
second, was there av running when you downloaded it? some av programs disable it as it arrives.
thirdly, you are right clicking and choosing run as administrator? cos just being logged on as administratior isn't the same. (though its less important for customruu than for hspl)
what operating system?
Hi samsamuel,
Thanks for the help.
I dont have a virus scan at all.
Laptop is running windows xp, there is only one account and it has administrator rights.
I have right clicked > Run As > Following User - there are 2 options, administrator or vik.
Admin account has not been set up, but I had a go at selecting it anyway (no luck),
also no luck with my main account "vik"
in that case only. suggestion i have is use sd card to flash, or try a different comp. sorry.
thanks mate, I have tried it on another computer and it has worked fine.
Updated the radio and now using andriod. cheers for the help
