hie... i am a newbie using the XDA II and i would appreciate any advice and information from anyone in this forum... i would like to ask...
1. is it possible to upgrade my current windows version to a newer version?
2.if this is possible, then does it mean that i would be changing my ROM as well??? then how do i do it?? via USB link with a PC?
3.by changing the windows version, would it affect my GSM reception?
4. would i be expecting to face any problems??
5.would the remote chance of it craching happpen?and if it does happen, would i be able to recover it without taking it to professional help??
thanks.for your reply and i once again, appreciate all feedbacks.
u said it.. upgrade means UPGRADE.. >> obviously this improves the previous OS and ROM and GSM..
dont worry, it anything happens bad, u can simply revert the operation.
so far i have no problems encountered since i started upgrade.
2003se den to 2005 then back to se then back to 2005..no pwob..
read threads discussing upgrading. and gudluck^^

Microsoft will Blast us now!
FU^$ MS
F&^K MS. I have spent the equivalent of one month of my time trying to make their software work... LIKE IT SHOULD WORK IF THEY WERE TO DO THEIR DAM JOBS!!!!
If they are not going to support their software, we are going to try.
These "great, powerful, advanced", PDA-Cell phones, SHOULD work but they are full of bugs. Bugs that should not be their if MS had any pride.
Look at every show Bill gates has been on.. There is always a blue screen or crash or some other problem. They are getting lazy and FAT and do not care if their products work. There is not even a place for us to complain... With all the money they are making, they should have some products that work without glitches. Yes, I love MS products and use them every day and they are great and cool, it is just the little imperfections that make a bitter taste.
Sure, I will get shut down, maybe even get into trouble... I do not care. May be someone is listening that can make a difference?

You are right...

ROM images with Windows Mobile version 5 (codename MAGNETO) are starting to leak out
March 21, 2005 [Pocket PC phone]
We have information that ROM image with Windows Mobile version 5 (codename "Magneto" also known as "Windows Mobile 2005" although it is not confirmed yet) for HTC Magician has leaked - it works with T-Mobile MDA Compact. And now ROM image with Windows Mobile 5 for HTC Himalaya (aka Xda II, etc) also leaked out:
To learn more or to download these ROM images (setup program, ROM image + ActiveSync 4.0 BETA) click here (you must scroll along the thread to find a working server).
Warning: if you are not an expert in ROM upgrading of HTC devices - don't run this upgrade - it may render your device broken and your device may be never again upgrade-able!
Please observe that currently Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition is powered by Windows Mobile version 4.21 what reflects version of core operating system: Windows CE 4.21 so since Windows Mobile codename Magneto (the name "Windows Mobile 2005" is still uncertain) has core operating system Windows CE 5, it is natural that it will have Windows Mobile version 5 in "about dialog".
Conclusions: last year our sources at Microsoft told us that next version of Windows Mobile will come out in August 2005 and it looks like this date is very close to reality... although we have now some hints that first devices with Windows Mobile version 5 may appear in Autumn/Fall 2005, not in Summer 2005! In any case: first ROM images with Windows Mobile version 5 have just leaked out and we can expect that Microsoft will release SDK (software development kit) for Windows Mobile version 5 very soon - probably MEDC conference or at Tech*Ed this year.

magneto on ipaq?
Hello ,
Does anyone know if we can get magneto on a ipaq 6315?
I just want to try it, and see what it's like?
Would I have to change something in the rom file before i try it?
I looked in my asset viewer and I'm not sure if I need to change the product ID# on the rom or something else?
Does anyone know if magneto will even work on this slow processor?
I'm curious, but i don't want to fu*#-up :? my device.
Thanks in advance.
Similar to what wild1 wrote, my device is DEAD after upgrade. It gives a device authentication error..
Doesanybody know how to recover from this problem? Thanks a million!
Snellius
Apologies, I was too hasty. After rebooting, putting the XDA in bootloader mode it is now accepting a WM2003 downgrade. Problem is fixed I expect.
Thanks anyway.
wm2k5 installation problem
i upgraded my PPC to wm2k5, done all the steps as mentioned, but the device stops at the first blue screen when trying to hard reset it after installation is complete,
i followed all the steps mentioned here, exactly, and still didn't work,
now i have a peace of metal that doesn't accept any OS.
could you help me ??
thanks in advance.
hi people,
I have wallaby with windows 2003 SE I think and from time to time phone stuck (wont sync etc) and I have to soft reset it, thats not too often, maybe once-twice a day or so, is that enough reason to change win version on the phone, everything other work fine ?
Can anyone tell me about the upgrade or downgrade (I ve read someones post that SE is buggy and 2003 without SE is ok), I ve read that I should "build" my version and after that put it in windows folder on PPC and run it there, does the windows installation have anything with that ROM flashing or Radio flashing you mention a lot here or its just a windows installation ?
Can I destroy wallaby with windows install ?
Thanks people !
perhaps everyone changed wallaby for something newer, this forum looks dead
rom is windows and anything else which is preinstalled
here ppl get roms http://www.romkitchen.de/
and yes you can kill your device by upgrading rom

Perhaps you should read a little bit more in the forum... ;-)
As Rudgear already told you, flashing the ROM of a device could always kill a device.
For Up-/Downgrading the device you can read here about the process:

I upgraded to PC2003 several times, and my XDA always ended up dying after a few weeks, I now use PC2002 and it works perfectly. Never tried PC2003 SE though, is there much to be gained? At the end of the day a stable XDA missing a few features is much better than a buggy XDA with all the features.
still here guys, sorry for my paranoid toughts about dead forum )
Best regards people and thanks !
okay, the Purpose of this Thread is to ultimately find out if i need Active Sync to be up and running while I flash my XDA II to WM5.
Don't try to bash my Head in okay, i'm pretty new here and every search is giving me so much results that it's confusing finding your way through it all.
The ROM i would like to use is "XDA_WM5_3.50aWWE" and i also acquired a copy of the "himaupgradeut_noID.exe" File to bypass the Country ID Check (or whatever it was called).
I believe that this should work... i just need that darn question outta the way before i even dare to try something as delicate as flashing the ONLY XDA i have... not to mention the ONLY phone i have.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Oh by the way, if anyone from germany reads this and would like to help me in our native Language, feel free to do so
Yes you do need a computer with Windows XP (not Vista!) and ActiveSync version 4.5 (not older!) to flash WM6 to Himalaya.
success
thanks for the reply
I flashed my Hima to WM6 two days ago and i'm very happy with it
hi, I have a HTC Hermes 100 (I-mate JASJAM) with still the original firmware and has never been upgraded.
I want to try out multiple user made firmware and stick with one for a while, when i get bored with it, change for another. etc.
What do i need to know?
What do i need?
thanks
ryan
PS - I have flashed many devices before but never a mobile phone/PDA, and I run an IT business so don't hesitate on using 'technical' terms
If you haven't done it yet, just start reading here. It's pretty much all you need to know to get you started. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners. You basically just need to pay attention to point 1: HardSPL, Flash using MicroSD.
what is HARD SPL?
use the [Easy Hard-Spl v7 beta v0.1] by qwasde2
it,s really usefull i tryed it it,s by me
it,s for win xp and vista and se7en users
i,am not joking here is the link

Do you mean reset WP7 from Mozart? You can go to Settings, About and reset there. All data will be erased.
Shamoon, can you provide any more details of you're problem? Like what sort of restart problem?
Is it restarting on it's own, or you can't restart/reset? Or what?
If you can let us know, we may be able to help, but as someone already said there isn't anyone currently working on this - probably because the Mozart connects mainly with Zune, which would need to be hacked... Which would have all sorts of implications :-/
Sent from my now unlocked 7 Mozart using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
Please excuse my ignorance if I'm way off the mark here. But does WP7 read executable files like WM6? Because if it does, and as we can already access the Mozart's bootloader screen, it should be a short while before a haret-like (or haret itself) application is developed.
also could do with android
i have also just aquired a mozart and to be honest win7 isnt all its cracked up to be , android has so much more going for it :-D
not only Android but dual boot....Android and WP7 if possible....im getting bored at my Mozart WP7....its just like the Dumb IPHONE
Thanks guys
yeah m fedup of this phone... by the way i came over the problem i have by hard reseting the device.. manually

1. sell mozart and
2. buy android-powered device
no other methods available for now
yh would be nice to dual boot wp7 n android cuz i like both of them.maybe we will get sumthing like that in the future
No you cannot install any version of Android, as the phone is already discontinued in some countries i don't think we are ever gonna have android running on Mozart.
shame we can not install android for Mozart
