Help! O2 mediaplus it does not work

Hello
it is possible re-install mediaplus without having to re-install the rom?
thanks! Ciao
There is no installer for this as this is built-in to the ROM. Building the cab for this would take some time though. I would suggest you backup your contacts using PPCBckpContacts to save your contacts, tasks, appointments, speed dials, call logs. And use Jeyo SMS backup for your SMS backup.
Ciao!
Maybe you could describe what's wrong first, you may possibly not need a reinstallation...

when I approach the Mediaplus, FM radio, or Wireless Manager, appear the written " skin file are corrupted, Mediaplus exits! ". I would want to avoid to make the hard reset in order re-install all the programs!
Media Center Skin
I don't know if we have the same ROM structure. In my XDA Atom, the Media Center Skin is found in the hidden Extended ROM. If by any chance, you have removed this, OR modified one of the files, it can cause this problem.
I'm not sure if we have the same Media Center Skin, BUT I have attached mine from XDA Atom.
1. Backup first your original Media Center Skin using Activesync
2. Replace your Media Center Skin with the attached files
3. Soft-reset your device
BTW, you can backup your settings, programs, and everything else USING Spb Backup OR Sprite Backup; SO, you don't have to install each program you used AFTER a HARD RESET.
Same thing happen to me.
I want to know what you installed to your system prior the crashed.
I have this problem after installing the broadband TV programs. Did you install any?
BTW Did you restore the files successfully?

Contacts Manager Problem G4 WM6

I Upgraded to at least three versions of the wm6 custum roms with shelltool on a G4 device. All goes well except the contacts manager will not operate and also activesync 4.5 errors out when syncing (needs more memory) Memory is ok on the device. Software conflict? Has anyone else had this problem. How can I fix it. Maybe a problem when overwriting the old contacts manager?
I have the same problem with my G4. Help us anyone?
Are you restoring a WM5 PIM backup to WM6? They are not compatible.
I've got it figured out. Apparently, the pim.vol is corrupted after every rom update I did on my G4. All I did was rename the file to something else, soft reset and the whole problem is solved. A new pim.vol is automatic created and I deleted the renamed pim.vol. I restored my contacts list through PPCPimBackup. Everything is good now. Kudos to dotfred for the Pimbackup program and Whiterat for his very fast and stable WRCX roms!
where is the pim.vol file? is it in the windows folder?
It is in root directory

Best Backup/ Restore Program for APP4

Greetings,
What is the best backup/ restore program functioning well with AP4?
I am using Sprite Backup 5.02 with no problems others have said they had issues but I am not sure of the version they were referring to.
I have used Sprite Backup ver 6.2 and it works fine.
Cheers
BR
I used sprite backup 5.1 with no problems to sd card but on trying to backup the microdrive to my desktop , the microdrive got trashed and i couldnt access any of the files.
I use SPB Backup, it works fine on 4.0 and it has an external archive viewer, extracter and other desktop utilities that makes it a simple win for me. I also enjoy the desktop plugin that lets you know when its time to backup, how long since last backup or to schedule new back-ups in the future...
Hope this helps,
Bob
Gentelmen,
Thank you so much for your comments. I try both.
SPB Backup is the best! Ive tried both..
Regards,
Carty..
AP 3.0 SpriteBack in AP3 Addons is the best!
After reading some says SpriteBack 6.2 works fine with AP4, I tried it with unexpected result. When I restored, I discovered that VueFlo which has been disabled before Backup, it becomes active again after Restore, and some apps which I have entered the serial numbers, but still asked me to enter the serial numbers. However, SpriteBack 6.2 says successfully restored without giving any warning. I got a feeling to be cheated. The worst of that, in one of restoring process, SpriteBack 6.2 kills 2/3 of my files in MicroDrive, again without giving any warning report. Such things never happens to AP 3.0 SpriteBack in AP3 Addons file although it gives some warning relating to T9, but you can have 100% resote including your setting in VueFlo. The best of that, after AP 3.0 SpriteBack in AP3 Addons file is installed, it shows "SpriteBack 5.11, Authorized Version". But after you install SpriteBack 6.2, and remove. If you install AP 3.0 SpriteBack again, it only shows you have ten days for trial no matter you installed in MicroDrive or in the device. You have to hardreset and restore backup file before you installed SpriteBack 6.2. Fortunately enough, I have full back, those miserable things did not happen to me. But those wish to try SpriteBack 6.2 have to be very careful, the rule of thumb is to have a full backup.

Fixing contacts in WM 6 on Hermes

I have the Softbank Hermes X01HT. I have upgraded to WM 6 from WM5. After upgrade my contact wont appear when I press contact on the right bottow corner ( after I restore from SPB back up). The sim manager wont help also.
Could you all please let me know how solve this?
Thanks.
D
dont restore using a full backup as you are just trying to replace wm6 files with wm5 files that spb backup has saved which is probably why you cannot restore the backup.
Unselect the system section of the backup. You will probably need to clear storage first then select only the pim data to restore and see if this works.
If that doesnt work then you should re flash your wm5 rom and then restore your backup with spb, this time using the full restore option. Then use this file to backup your pim data (contacts, appointments and messages, speed dials etc)
http://rapidshare.com/files/85563377/ppcpimbackup_v2.8.rar
you can then reflash your new rom and restore all your pim info, you will have to re install your applications though. But once you have installed everything you can create a new backup with spbbackup

You can chose whatever backup software you want. Sprite offers a restore after ROM upgrade, so does SPB but be assured that in 8 out of 10 cases it will FAIL, your brand spanking new ROM will be messed up, sluggish, unresponsive.
The only way these backups DO work is a 1:1 restore. Let's say you back up, installed a theme, phone hangs or you don't like the theme and cannot convert back.
Hard reset SAME ROM --> Restore --> > Done.
Get accustomed to MyPhone, PIM copy, UC, Sashimi and other tricks because you wont be happy with the restore.
Catch phrase --> "Trust me!"
agree with tyguy...
PIM Backup, SASHIMI, and UC is very useful in backup/restore... I use them all

There are SOME things that will work that way. If you use Sprite Backup, you can decide which things to restore. If you avoid restoring the registry, you can still use it to restore selected items like PIM databases. I used Sprite Backup but it has become unusable and it seems the company has stopped responding to support requests. AFAIK, SPB doesn't offer the ability to select but I may be wrong.
I'm curious about one thing though. When using things like PIM Backup, what usually happens is once I sync, all PIM Info gets duplicated (Active Sync thinks the data restored via PIM Backup is something "new"). Does anyone know a way to fool Outlook/Active Sync to not behave that way?
If like me you have meetings and contacts in the thousands, using Outlook/Activesync to restore PIM info to the phone after flashing a new ROM takes a really long time...
I can confirm that newest version of SPB Backup never worked for me on EnergyROMs. I could not connect to gsm network even on a same ROM. Sprite Backup works like a charm, but only on the same ROM. It is good just if you are installing something you never know what happens. So it could work just like some restore points in windows. As the guys here said, best method is to learn UC customizations, Sashimi, but i have to say, it is not that easy, for some people...
i work with SPB Backup with ROMeOS and it worked perfektly even on different ROM Versions. I tried to restore a backup made with SPB Backup under ROMeOS WWE and restored it under GENY GER Version, worked without Problems after changing some names/pathes in the registry (Speicherkarte => Storage Card etc) depending on the language. Not working links like Total Commander werent in the installation of GENY in the main memory; they run after installing TC in the windows directory; for me the Speed was absolutely ok, but i dunno, how fast it would be if you work with UC. I restored all my BUs since ROMeOS since version 1.4 until ver 2, but then i decided to install everything new, what took 2 weeks of braincooking but i got 50 MB more free RAM. Of course its better to install everything new, but if its a complex program & settingsstructure, with a lot of tweaks, colored task bars and so on it is much easier & faster to restore a BU...
SPB has the opportunity to choose which parts of BU you want to restore ... from complete restore (with ROM Upgrade mode/ phone Changing mode) over all or single databases to even single files, if i remember right...

P.S.: i only worked with WM 6.1 ROMs
If I'm in the right mood I'll start a new thread under the general Raphael section because I think this does belong here to the ROM dev. section.
Just in a nutshell:
Sprite has and had major problems if the basic SYS changes dramatically (WinMo 6.1 to 6.5 or 6.5 to 6.5.3) thus I stopped using it BUT it has a nice but not really great working "Restore after ROM change feature".
My basic tricks are:
PIM Backup with SPB
Sync with MyPhone
XML changes (like program paths etc.) with Adv.Config
Install with Sashimi
Copy with Total Commander (programs, Opera settings and bookmarks).
Username and personal data either manual input or Sashimi.
This worked since WinMo 5.0 with no issues and it takes me ~ 30 minutes after a flash to be back 99.9%. I do have to install a few things manually
Don't have much time now so I'll post the link to the "How To" later today.
You can actually do a lot with just pimbackup. The custom option is pretty cool-it allows you to backup and restore custom files, much like sashimi does, except that once you set it up, it will do the backup for you instead of having to do it manually. If you uncheck the 'binary' option, you basically just get a zip file with a directory of all the files you selected for backup.
There's a lot that can go wrong using sprite or a similar app. Even if you don't restore registry settings, you might insert something into the startup folder that screws up your phone (it's easier than you'd think, lol). A week or so ago, I decided to try running a task manager at startup (IT Task, which is really cool), and for whatever reason, when you put a shortcut for it in the startup folder, you have major problems booting up the phone. After about 10 tries, I got lucky and the phone booted up, so I didn't have to do a hard reset (which I wasn't fully prepared for).
You're probably ok restoring with sprite if you stick to the same rom-line, but it could certainly be a mess if one chef stores apps in \program files but the new chef has them all in rom (in \windows). Then you'll end up with two copies of everything, which is a waste. It may work, but it's a lousy way to go.
