WM5 + Windows Media 10 Sync - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi All,
Followed the upgrade procedure for my XDAII, and have found that (apart from one or two little bugs, and the camera app being absolute rubbish) WM5 is o.k.
However, WindowsMedia 10 is causing me a headache - I can't seem to get the desktop player to sync via ActiveSync 4 (Build 4343) to copy across any music files to the XDA - I have to use an SD card reader and sync the playlists directly to the card, rather than through the device itself.
Any ideas?
P.S - Pocket Railplanner (http://www.travelinfosystems.co.uk/) works O.K with WM5!

just to give people an impression of what to expect of their device after the upgrade compared to what they get now
??
had wm2005 running for about an hour now and im quite impressed with how stable it is for an alpha release,
using a SPV M1000 on orange UK network,
phone app works fine, sms working fine,
activesync working fine, also remote activesync to my companies exchange 2003 server works great.
conduits pocket player running but had to install onto a SD card (PQI 1GB) since there was only about 9MB of storage on the device,
when i sync the only error im gettin is a calllog module error as i have jeyo mobile companion 1.1 installed,
but so far so good,
congrats to everyone who made this possible! cheers guys,
regards.
Spritebackup runs, although you can't browse where to save the file and it only backs up if you de-select emails (something to do with the way it accesses the memory I'd guess).
Trying to run TomTom3, no luck so far
MSReader works.
I've some problems with activesync (can't connect)
In system proprieties the device is under "Network devices - Windows Mobile-Based Device" and not under "USB" or "USB Adapters"
In "Magneto" there isn't MMS client?? i've seen txt messages ; outlook... but not MMS
Thank's a lot (sorry for my english)

Tom Tom, Roue66 or GPS program

I have a MDA Vario and I was Wondering
Which navigational program can I use / install on my Vario?
And where can i get it?
TomTom can be a pain to get installed and running. Search the forums for further advice. It took me a couple of attempts. Once installed it works perfectly. Get the scamera, sorry saftey camera database from www.pocketgps.co.uk it enables you to have appropriate warnings. e.g. 30mph warnings at 30 mph sites, 50mph warnings at 50mph locations. I have to pass 7 cameras on different speed roads each journey into work and it is nice to have a reminder where the sites are to allow me to check my speed. I have no experience of other SatNav software but there are some comprehensive reviews on the pocketgps site.

TomTom on MDA Vario
How did you manage to put TomTom 5 on a Vario? Every time I try I get a set up application error and asks if I want to send a report to Microsoft. I tried to install 3 and that failed as well.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Nich
There are better people to guide you through the steps necessary than me but this is what worked for me. Don't use the TomTom installer from CD. Extract the cab files from the CD, I use Winrar on my PC to do this. Copy the cabs over to the vario. Using a file explorer on the vario create the following directories. \tomtom, \My Documents\TomTom, \Storage Card\TomTom, and finally \Storage Card\zip. Copy your map to \Storage Card\Great-Britain-Map\. Copy Great_Brittain.Postal to \Storage Card\zip. Tap on the cab files one at a time. I don't think it matters which order you do the cabs. I soft reset between cabs but again I don't think this is essential. Once all the cabs have installed, DON'T start TomTom. Go to setting>connections>Bluetooth>Devices and setup a new partnership with your GPS unit. Tab to COM Ports and create a new port for the GPS. Leave Secure Connection unchecked. Mine is COM6. Using a file explorer, I use TotalCommander go to \My Documents\TomTom and edit CurrentMap.dat to point to your map folder on the storage card. Soft reset and when the vario is backup start TomTom from the startmenu. When asked to configure GPS choose Other Bluetooth and then COM6. I found it helped to be outside with a good satelite lock prior to this last step. TomTom will automatically turn on Blurtooth for you and switch it off again when TomTom is closed. TomTom does take an age to come up after tapping the startmenu but once running it is pretty responsive. If you overclock with OmapClock TomTom does come up quicker but it is still the slowest program on my vario to launch. If you need further help just shout. I will try to find the exact list of extracted cabs I used. I do know that the English Female voice is voice05.cab.

Thanks for all this, unfortunately it did not work. When I tried to execute the cabs files, I get the message installation was unsuccessful.
Thanks for your help anyway.

rephrase:
Ok, installed the cab files per your instruction and also created a new partnership between my gps receiver and my MDA. It appears only serial 6 and 7 show up on mine and they both used. Am I suppose to creat a new serial port the GPS device? When I try to do it, it still only shows up 6 or 7 and it won't allow me to use neither.
Also, where do you put the voice file? I presume that is not a cab file.
Still trying to get mine to work. Almost there...I hope.
Thanks.

There are lots of posts about this problem on this and many other forums.
In brief - only TT V5.21 works on a WM5 ppc.
If you add an extra outgoing port for BT on either 6 or 7 TT V5.21 allows them to be used, V5 does not.
see my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=43412 for full install instructions.
I used your instrctions and got it up and running in no time. Tnx for that. It works great.

crashing when setup
hi ive just got my copy of tom tom and have installed both the standard and update.
when im trying to do my initial setup it crashes when i choose the map i want to use. i ahve no idea why?
any help?
p.s. it does work perfectly fine on a wm2003 pda
I would guess you are not using a copy from a shop!
Sounds like you have a file missing.... You need to create a directory \My Documents\TomTom
Then create a text file called Currentmap.dat with the following in:
! \Storage Card\Great_Britain-Map\
assuming you are using the UK map and its on your storage card.
Transfer this file to your device and then start TomTom and you should be ok.

HTC S740 many Question!

Hello Friends,
Yesterday i got my NEW HTC S740 smartphone! I have to say that i'm really newbie to smartphones but i love this phone!!
I found all the features of the phone and i have to say that i'm very pleased with it! My problem is that i can't - fear to connect the phone to my computer!!
When i insert the cd of HTC in my computer it asks me to download Flash player. I download flash player and then i install it on my computer but i still can't open the cd!! Also i have installed Active Sync 4.5 on my pc! What i wanna ask is, can i connect the S740 on my pc with only Active Sync 4.5 or i have to install the program of HTC (the one i can't find because i don't have flash player)?? How can i fix the problem with flash player?
thanks in advance
My Activesync has probs with Vista
Not sure if this helps but from memory my activesync didnt work with vista and I needed some other syncing software for vista. I found it pretty easy so do a google search on syncing problems here.
I now sync my TYTN2 to my iMac and it works great as the iTunes all come across with no probs.
Enjoy
My friend i have XP! What about the problem with flash player? Why i can't read the cd?
In fact, if you've installed ActiveSync, you don't need anything else from the CD (maybe except User's Guide from the second disk). It contains (packed in Flash animations) just sync programs and few links. Anyway, if so curious, try to explore the CD and run start.exe directly from there...
Working ActiveSync should sit (greyed) now in the System Tray on the right side of the XP's bottom Taskbar. Right click over the icon and choose Connection Settigs... On following dialog first check the box Allow USB Connection.
When you'll connect your Rose to the machine now, it will start working without hassles. If any problems, first check the manual and if lost anyway, let us know again.
Ok i will try to connect with Active Sync!
WOW it worked!! thank you my friend!! Does the cd contain anything else useful?
Not really... Just links to WM 6.1 Home on Microsoft... Have a look there on TotalAccess, they're some freebies avalable.
On little trick for other places - open the connection dialog (as above) again and have a look, if the last box (Allow wireles...) is UNchecked. If so, hanged on USB your Rose will connect to internet trougth PC - it's faster and 100% "free".
And have a look on your built-in mobile favourites on Rose - you'll find a HTC page with few links. One little warning - you'll find there a link to Adobe FlashLiite, which does not work on Rose... Good tip is to check Google Maps application and maybe SkyFire (alternate browser with YouTube support).
As Pocket Internet Explorer tends to ignore WiFi connection, alternate browser is good to have anyway. Another, very solid option is Opera Mini. Just be aware - it's Java application. After installation you'll find it in Java console (it's in Accessories folder).
Enjoy!
thank you me friend for giving me these useful tips! It's really helpfull and will help me understand better my smartphone!!
P.S. How can i see youtube and generally streaming videos on my S740? I visited youtube but i couldn't watch videos!!
Until Adobe will understand, that WM 6.1 Standard has no limitations in that (the FlashLite just denies to install), as far as I know, the only way I see is the SkyFire browser as mentioned above. Just read Privacy statement on their site first, you'd probably not like info they're collecting...
Oh ok! And something last...
I want to buy an extra card because i need more space! What kind of card does it take?? Micro sd or Mini sd?? Confusing!
Micro. Don't be confused, on commercial photos they look the same, because usually sold with adapter in Mini size (micro is then just delivered inserted in the adapter).
Crossfingers with inserting card into the slot as this is only thing which drove me insane on early beginning...
Therefore I would recommend you the largest possible card to avoid a need to change it. As Rose supports the latest standards of SD Cards, you can use any size up to 32GB. Speed of the card isn't really critical - major snail in file operations is Windows Mobile file system. But this is area of little wizardry, because it depends on size, brand etc. With hight probability the most critical operation from this POV is video capturing by built-in camera.
So my recommendation is - don't spend money for useless speed, prefere size (otherwise you'll after few changes of cards in the slot throw Rose against the wall ;-) ). And if possible, just for sure, try to record some video on the card in highest size first directly in the shop and you'll see...
So, what i need is a Micro Sd card 32GB? Right?
Yeap. First word of my previous post...
Obviously, smaller sizes works as well and some (1-2 gigs) are today sold for nothing...
Maybe it's time to open 2nd CD with the manual (promise - no flash, just PDF file). I understand first confusions if somebody meets first Windows Mobile phone and enthusiasm (especially in combination WM + Rose ;-) ) should be supported.
Nevertheless in this stage manual would be faster than me (leaving for single malt "dinner" with friends ).
Ok my friend. Thank you for all your help! I will open the manual!!

Usin your TP as your computer...suggestions & tips?

So very soon, I will be moving, and when this happens, I will no longer have access to a computer. My TP will be my lifeblood.
1.)Are there any programs I should install on my TP that can only be installed via PC? (Windows Mobile Device Center)
2.)In case I find a program after I move that is .EXE only, is there any way at all to run those on Windows Mobile?
3.)Most ROMs can be downloaded on the phone then flashed via SD card correct? In case I take the plunge and get rid of my stock
4.)-Please- suggest some programs for me to use...I just bought a TV out cable in anticipation of the move. I plan on using skyfire to watch streaming video (Bleach/Narutoget.com ftw!!), but it can be choppy at times, so anything better than skyfire for that purpose?
You guys have NO idea how grateful I would be for your help!
Hey bud,
I have a few suggestions, the first of which is to buy a cheap computer when you move . It will save you a ton of hassle. The office applications included on the Touch Pro can be somewhat of a problem with editing, etc. The TV-out can be prone to lag. That aside here are a couple of other suggestions:
- For videos forget about skyfire. Use HTC's (or coreplayer) Youtube application to watch videos, including anime, the quality will be much better than skyfire. Or, alternatively, several people encode anime and what not to be viewed on the PSP...the format works very well on the Touch Pro. www.yes-psp.com is one such site. Try googling "anime4psp". You can also download an IRC client (eg. pocketirc) and download videos through IRC. Coreplayer plays most popular xvid encodings quite well.
- As for the activesync/rapi installed programs, I'm sure there is a way with a PC...not sure if there is an app for windows mobile
- Personally, I've tried a ton of ROMS. Each one seems to have its positives and negatives. EnergyROM has ALL the bells and whistles, however, be prepared for only a 4-5 hour battery life. DCD is great if you want a base ROM. Juicy has a ton of cutting edge stuff. Mighty ROM for speed and stability. I personally use NSFan's rom with touchflo3d turned off. It seems to have the most balance with regards to speed, stability, battery life, and includes a good smattering of "bells and whistles". Plus he some decent graphics drivers included in the ROM.
- ROMS can be installed via the storage card as long as the .nbh file is named appropriately and your storage card is formatted in the correct filesystem.
Here is my list of apps (not including what's included by default in NSFan's ROM):
- G-Alarm
- Coreplayer
- Pocket Artist
- Mobile FTP Client
- Mochasoft FTP server
- PocketIRC
- Beejive IM
- Skype
- Microsoft's Facebook App.
- System Seven (a free service that delivers push e-mail using imap-idle)
- WMtorrent (for downloading torrents)
- NSFan's Opera Browser build (available here on Xda)
- cleanRAM
- Total Commander (file explorer)
- Powerguard (battery monitor/logging)
- Sashimi (for easily restoring files when you flash a new rom)
- hTorch (flashlight program available on XDA)
- cHome Editor (on XDA)
- reStart (on XDA)
- Touch In Call screen tweak (think it's on XDA)
- Chartcross GPS Test (I use it as a GPS primer)
- QuickGPS (can be obtained from DCD's site)
- MyMotion (a program that logs your run/bikes etc with spoken feedback, and it allows you to save the logs as kmz files...which can be loaded into Google Earth. Note that this program will not function with Touchflo 3d turned on).
- Tom Tom Navigator
- Jetcet Print 5
- W0lf's Translator
- Clearvue Presentation
Hope this helps

[HTC HD2][IPAQ R4100] Unable to install apps - Not sure where to get apps/games?

Hello all,
I have recently purchased a few HP Ipaq PDAs, I believe one is an R4000 and the other R4100 (Or H4000, can't recall) anyway they're running Windows Mobile 2003. I have also purchased a HTC HD2 running Windows Mobile 6.5.
I have got hold of loads of Pocket PC games but only maybe 1 in 20 will run on either of these devices. Normally I get an error of "Not a valid Pocket PC Application" or similar. I found an FTP site with various games/apps for download specifically listed as either "Pocket PC" or "WM2003" but again, only a small selection seem to work.
Am I missing something? Is there a better source I should go to (I appreciate none shall be named here but if someone could hint). I would have thought looking for WM2003 apps would be the ones I need for the IPAQs and Pocket PC apps should work on either but at least one of the devices.
Any help would be appreciated
