Active Sychn 4 - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I am using wm2k5 with AS4 on my himalaya. the moment i sync with my workstation using the cradle, there is a pop-up message "Unable to obtain a server-assisgned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings." (notice that the network icon on the tray was searching for an address.)
Why am i receiving this message? also, where can i get the thread about outlook connector with lotus notes?
i read some of the forums here that people were getting problems sync their pc with AS 4 thru the cradle. i don't have such problem but only the one listed above.
do we ever need to use any of the network adapters found in the wm2k5?
can anyone enlighten me?

strange problem sending emails

Since yesterday I noticed a sudden problem with my XDA I can not sort out, and I would like to ask this community for help on this one:
Problem:
Emails stored in the outbox do not get transmitted during a GPRS connection with my provider.
Observations:
The login process goes as usual, it even says "sending emails ...", which takes the usual while, incoming mails get downloaded to the device, but after the connection is over it says "could not upload emails, check your setting or talk to the provider" in an alert box. When I look into the outbox all the mails I wanted to send are still there, and they are not just forgotten to delete after sending (I sent some to myself to check).
I have of cause checked the settings, and I know the account is working, because I can access it via my laptop.
The radio must be able to send, because it would not be able to establish a connection otherwise.
I resetted the device, but this had no effect.
I thried to use the dvice in a different GPRS zone (other city) but the issue remains the same.
I searched the forum, but did not find any usable information.
Question:
Have these things be observed before?
Does anyone have a hint on how to sort this issue out or what to look at closer?
Any hints would be appreciated,
Martin
i had this prblm b4...but then i used nPop and it worked fine, but now i dont even use that, i just use "myemail.t-mobile.com" as the outgoing mail, but thats just 4 TMO

Well I know I cannot do that with my Device.
Here in NZ the ISP's block access to the SMTP servers from any connection outside their network.
They do this to stop Spammers using their SMTP servers.
Often they still allow access to the POP servers, because they are authenticated, which fits your symptoms, you can receive, but not send, via your GPRS.
One solution is to set the account up to use your cellphone companies SMTP server if they have one. So you send your mail via smtp.Vodafone.net.nz for example.
..Chuck..
Thank you for your replies!
I checked with my provider to find out if they changed their POP/SMTP settings, but they didn't.
It then took me a while to find out this is a software issue.
In fact it is in some software on the device, and it comes back after hard resetting and copying back the SD backup. I did a double hard reset with a clean reinstall of all software and now I'm able to send mails again.
I could not exactly find out which part of the software, because I can not extract or delete individual files from the backup or resore thm one by one to eliminate faulty files. (is there a tool for this?)
I have the suspicion that establishing two active sync partnerships did the change: Before I had the problem, I had only one computer I synced with, but short before that I bought a new Laptop and now sync with two computers (one being a server, via a network). This might have corrupted something within the networking settings, that is not accessible via the option and connection setting pages.
I'd really like to have an overview page to check on all current settings instead of using settings... and options... dialogs in different locations, but that's another story.
It's working again.
Thanks once more for your replies!
Martin
My post is even more basic. I would like to see a short, simple sequence of events to "send an e-mail" from my sx-56.
A. Which program do I use to send (if there is a different one to receive, what it that)?
B. What are the entities that I have to enter into the fields, on which program?
C. What is the procedure for composing and sending the e-mail once the preliminary data has been entered?
The PDA works fine
The phone works fine
Thanks,
Lou

NEED HELP sending emails through WIFI on my MDA

For some reason I can do everything through Wifi except send emails. I can successfully receive my emails, view them, download attachments, browse with internet explorer, and chat on all messenger programs! I have spoken to upper tier level support people at T-mobile and they confirmed my outgoing settings are correct. I use yahooo small business email server and outgoing is set to: smtp.bizmail.yahoo.com. Can anyone help me with this problem?
This is the error message I get: "messages cannot be downloaded to your mobile device. Make sure you are connected and that your e-mail account settings are correct. Then try to download messages again".
timing
Is this a problem that you have just encoutnered or a longer running one. I find that I sometimes get this message if my PC is off (killing the wifi network) or if my internet provider webmail server is down. It may ahve been a glitch that will sort itlsef.
Don't bother phoning and paying fpr Tmobile support - trust me - they don't know anything about the phone you have - stick with the forum!
Hi, I've had this problem from day 1, never been able to send emails
try this
you could try instead of outgoingserver smtp.bizmail
just type in this text smtp.mail.yahoo.com
and furthermore leave the boxes requires ssl connection and outgoing mail requires authentication OPEN.
hope this works for you as it works for me.
Thanks for the suggestion... Tried it, but still no success. Anybody else?
outlook
DO you use outlook elsewhere for this/these accounts and have you double checked that the settings are identical?
Can you send via GPRS?

Who is your email provider? any of these: yahoo.com, yahoo.co.uk, or Hotmail. i have the same problem as well.
Yahoo and new hotmail accounts need to be paid for to sync via outlook, those of us who have been syncyng Hotmail for a while (was it oct 2006 or 2005 they stopped - I have a memory like a seive) can still sync.
When you set up the email account how did you do it, who is it with and did you test the settings?
But you could still forward all your Hotmail mails to another free mail provider
(to which you can freely sync to Outlook).
i have the same issue. set up with an IMAP server. it doesnt even try over 3G and works while connected to a pc and uses its connection. suggestions? is this answered elsewhere?
[Edit]: Found on another thread (thanks to Pawel062) to uncheck the proxy info on the Media Net, this resolved the issue for me.

Tearing out my hair!!!!!!!!!

I've got an issue that I can not seem to resolve. Whenever I connect online using the sprint #777 number, I can not turn it off. I used to be able to turn it on and off through Comm manager, but now, it just tells me to "Tap here to set up data connections." Also, I never had an "Outlook Email" account in my messages folder, but now I do. This happened yesterday when I used activesync for the first time. I don't have Outlook installed on my computer and have no need for it. This Outlook email account is now set to my default and I am getting frustrated over these two items. Any ideas?
Here is a link describing how to remove the phantom outlook email account.
http://ppcgeeks.com/forum.ppcgeeks/showthread.php?t=43702.
As for the PC connection open settings in the start menu, choose connections, choose usb to PC, make sur that the ActiveSync button is checked, and you may want to disable the enable advance network funtionallity, and see if that does not solve the problem.

I'm assuming you have internet connection using other applications except Gmail. If this is the case, it could be some sort of permission problem on the gmail app. If you do not know how to set/review permissions in Huawei, you should google it. I (still) do not have the phone to guide you...

My gmail app works fine. Only the email stock app does not work when I try to connect it to the gmail.
Have you enabled pop/imap access on your gmail account? Official gmail app users their own protocol. Other email clients uses pop/imap standard protocols, but you need to have them activated to work. You can set in desktop gmail settings via browser.
I did and my email on the mate 9 works fine. However I found out that one of the wireless network setting for my mate 10 was set to "sim" when I change it to "peap" then my email app works fine. Thanks for your reply.

Hi,
I have similar issue however I cannot even setup the gmail on the native email app. I have an error saying the "username or password is incorrect or pop3/smtp service is disabled"
I googled the issue but couldn't find much useful. The reason I wanted to try to set the emails up because the notification led does not work when I got an email via the Gmail app.
- Anyway the password is correct to the account but I'm using 2 step verification (I tried my yahoo account which doesn't have 2 step verification and I have the same problem)
- The phone is connected to the internet (I try this over wifi)
- I tried other options such as exchange (this took me further setting up the mail server and port but I got a message "cannot connect to server" on both gmail and yahoo account) I tried the "other" option too but I have the same error pop3/smtp service is disabled as mentioned above.
I checked the sim settings as you mentioned above but I couldn't find any settings regarding the "peap". Can you pleas let me know where is that located?
Did you have any of the issue I mentioned above?
Thx in advance

That setting only appears in the wireless settings when I try to connect to a secure network that requires me to provide an identity and a password. To tell you the truth I have a hard time to find that setting myself. In my case I notice that when I try to connect (using wifi) to the secure network of csula and calpoly pomona that require me to provide an identity and password, my mate 10 just skip the steps that I need to provide an identity and a password and try to connect to the network. Obviously it could not. Only in these cases then I see the settings that I can change from "sim" to "peap". Then my email app works. I am sorry that I cannot explain clearer. May be some expert can show you to get to it better.

Thanks for providing the screenshot. Looks like I had a different issue but luckily I managed to solve it however it took me a few hours to read 100s of unrelated forums..
As I mentioned above I am using 2 step verification for google but not yahoo. Looks like both service provider have an option within the settings where "a less secure application access" can be allowed.
This managed to fix my yahoo account but I still had to generate an app access password on my google account as it had 2 step verification. Anyway, its all done thx for your help
