2. Spb Weather
3. Spb Finance
4. Spb GPRS Monitor
5. Spb Time
6. Spb Full Screen Keyboard
7. Spb Arkaball

13. Soft Object Technologies Pocket Commander
14. Sprite Software Backup
15. Jamdat Worms
16. SOE EverQuest
17. ZIO Interactive FIFA 2002
Pls. help me. I keep on backing up and restoring my program. Almost daily it hangs my unit and to have my unit to work I need to hard rest it and restore my backup.
Thanks in advance.
***xda2jojo: drain your memory(others i dont know)

When you run worms does it actually start the game up ??
Mine doesnt, it loads something into memory but does not start the game , so if youve tried that then it could be the cause ... it used to take 80% memory up on my xda 2i
if that isnt the cause then try a hard reset but dont restore , start from scratch and see if the same problem happens.

Worms works fine in my unit. Every single application works. I don't know which one makes my unit hang.
It always happen when I'm not using it. So even I turned it on the display won't turn on. I don't know if their are application running at the background.

Pls. help.....

SPB Pocket Plus - XDA II PROBLEM!!!

I have installed SPB Pocket Plus but it hardly jams finished the installation. Any icon doesn't appear
I have also installed macromedia Flash Player.
HELP
From my experience, I've had no problems with SPB Pocket Plus, get the latest version, 2.2 I think.
It could be conflict with other software you have installed. Best way to check is after a hard reset, install SPB Pocket Plus before anything else, and see if the problem manifests, if it does not, then its software conflict.

WM 6.1 memory management "feature"

So, ever since I upgraded to windows mobile 6.1, there is one "feature" that is driving me nuts... I haven't seen any reference to it in the forums (though it's possible I just didn't read enough of the 20+ page threads), but I'm wondering if anyone knows how to disable it.
It seems that windows mobile automatically starts closing programs when I start running low on memory. Particularly Messaging and Internet Explorer are prone to suddenly not be there anymore, but other programs do it as well.
For example, I'm reading a text message, switch to contacts to update someone's information, and then I try to switch back to the text message to verify the data and it's no longer running. I start up text messaging, and contacts has closed.
Very frustrating. I'm fairly certain it does it only when memory is very low, but I much preferred the warning "yo, idiot, you're out of memory, shut stuff down" messages to this "I'm going to close this program with no consideration to what you're doing and w/out asking" approach.
Anyone have any ideas? Maybe I'm missing something obvious?

WoW. You must be running a memory HOG program in the background to run out of memory with text messaging and the contacts program.
I have bluetooth to use with my Stereo Bluetooth head phones when I listen to Windows Media and Have the Threaded Text Messaging Software in the background running ( I text alot and I need it running in the background to initiate it faster ) all with HTC Home Plugin and I dont get any memory problems. Nothing closes out.
Do you have the X-Button program installed? The one that closes things out completely when you press the X. If so this can be the problem.
Honestly I use an Alt-Tab program to switch between programs. This helps alot.
I know exactly what you mean as far as the memory management closing applications. for example i used to be able to have tomtom running, and also audio manager playing music, however if memory is low, the management always closes audio manager. Rather annoying, i've had it do it during other programs also ie. messaging, internet explorer.
That's weird.... Possibly sending hibernate signal to programs to see if some will shut down?
I haven't noticed any apps getting closed automatically but I never try to have more than a few open at a time.
Well other then recommending that you review your installations and see if there are any memory HOG programs to remove, I also recommend using Oxios Hibernate.
Check out this website for more details.
http://www.oxios.com/memory/
I have some today plugins (like SBP diary) that may be taking part of the memory. I have to blame the memory leak for the rest... on a fresh boot I have 18 meg free, by the time I start having real problems with things shutting down left and right I only have 5 free. I use QuickMenu, which has a program similar to X-Button so that I can explicitly close programs, but I can also use it to switch tasks. In WM6 it worked fine. However, unless I reboot frequently, I end up with this problem. Some things always exhibit this problem, even right after a soft reset reset. For example, if I use PIE to view a site such as youtube and I play a video clip, PIE closes in the background while the video is playing, which is very annoying.
I know that there are things to do to try to free memory... I have hibernate, I have the task manager connected to quickmenu, but I still have this problem.

What ROM are you using? I have DCD 2.2.0 core with others mixed in and I get about 23 to 24 MB on soft boot. That is with all of my apps installed.
It might be that the page pool on your ROM is high. If it is high it tends to speed up your device but you sacrifice memory. Are you using one of DCD's new ROM's? Because I believe his new ROM's have a higher page pool then before to cope with WM6.1.

i've heard of oxios causing this phenomena, something in the way of how it alters things when you run it. I use oxios exclusively to manage my ram, and have done so for a long time. the newer dcd roms are a lot better at this, some 6.1 roms though have a terrible memory leak.
Honestly though, you really shouldnt ever have that many apps open at one time. i start to freak out when i get down to 15mb free
try to use something where you can monitor your ram on the today screen, like batterystatus today plugin along with mbutton to see the open apps in the taskbar, and oxiosw memory apps to keep it all tidy.
I'm having the same issue, but not sure it has to do with low memory. I have dcd 2.1.0 rom with Spb pocket plus 4.0, mobile shell and oxios. If I'm going from say IE to any other program and go back fairly quickly to IE it would is still active but If I'm on another program for more than a minute it closes down on its own
Strangly having same issue here. Bus most annoying for internet sharing, and Messenger Live, can't be memory issue, nothing else is running! It just closes stuff as it feels like it.
Using Task Manager 2.0 here, no X-Button.
Mine is doing the same thing and I am running DCD 3.1 ROM. Sometimes I can have only 2 apps open and it will close the one that I am not in. Just 5 secs ago I had opera mini running and spb wallet. I had opera mini running and minimized it with the ok button and then opened SPB wallet from the start menu to get a password and when I went to go back to opera mini it was gone. This seems to be happening to me when I get ~8M of RAM left. This is very annoying. I am running quite a few programs in the background though.
SPB mobile shell 1067kb
S2u2 613kb
tmail 125kb
Wisbar Lite 65kb
Mortscript 16kb
AEB 13k
Ftouchsl 5k
I have had all these programs running before on a WM6 rom and never had this issue. and I never map the ok key to close.
Guys, sooner or later you're going to have to come to terms that the Titan only has 64 mb of ram, with over 50% of it being used by the system. This means you only get about 23-26 mb of free ram with a CLEAN rom. Taking a look at some of the applications you use, I can see why the system is auto closing stuff. WM 6.1 does this so your freakin os won't crash due to no memory. I use a LOT of software and I still end up with 22 mb free at boot. This is because I choose not to use certain programs that eat ram. If you absolutely need to use all that bloat, go back to WM 6.0 until a device with more ram comes out.
Nothing I'm using should be going above 22MB (which is free at startup)
Here's what I use and how much ram they eat up:
Garmin Mobile 5-7
Opera same
Navizon 2.7
GPS Viewer 1
other stuff (no more than 4 at most) less than 1MB
But I use Garmin Mobile in the car and not Opera becuase I don't have a data plan. And If i'm using Opera I wouldn't have garmin on as I would be at a house or mall or something like that.
But with JUST garmin Navizon and GPS viewer (with free ram mind you) garmin will close everything else (sometimes)when I activate it. However, with all three open and garmin in he back it won't close....
Ha..first off..Navizon has to be the BIGGEST pile of bloat I've ever used on my ppc. I had it installed for about 5 minutes before I trashed it.
WM 6.1 doesn't close programs when you run out of ram. It automatically senses when certain programs are eating ram, and when it gets low it closes programs to ensure you don't run out of ram.
If it's closing programs it means something you're running is causing your ram to drop tremendously. I've never had WM 6.1 close any of my programs.
Hello, i had the same problem on my Hermes. But i solved it. Just changed this two registry Keys.
Hkey_Current_USER/Software/HTC/Taskmanager
Enable Autokill change from 1 to 0
Hkey_Current_USER/Software/HTC/Taskmanager
MemoryThreshold change from 9437184 to 943718
Now it works perfect. No more closing Tasks automatically.

I am running a stock rom and it doesn't seem to have those keys. Could you post the exact spelling for the values (for example, is the value "Enable Autokill" or is it "EnableAutokill")
A clip for the registry itself would be even better.
Thanks for the tip!!!

thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!! I'll try this out, if it works then one of my biggest gripes with this device will be addressed! I played with a friend's Tilt and the amount of available RAM blew me away but this will definitely help with the craptastic memory!

This appears to have solved my issue with this. I run no2chem 5069k with a 10mb Pagepool. I use Oxios and have ~24 mb of ram at boot. I normally encounter problems when trying to switch between apps. I use the LastFM app and prior to this fix I would OK out of the app and it would close 5-10 seconds after OKing out. Even with a fresh boot. With this fix implemented I have successfully had it running in the background for 10+ minutes while switching between using Google Maps, Live Search and IE. Note that none of the programs closed.
Keep in mind your mileage may vary from ROM to ROM and app to app. I'm guessing that it is exclusive to a certain version of HTC Task Manager. Also possibly maybe exclusive to some type of Memory Mangement App. All I know is that I have been fighting this closing issue since no2chem 5066 IIRC and this has apparently solved it. I've used the same app loadout since I've had my Mogul pretty much.
What I did:
I did not have these registry keys. I created the:
"HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager" key
then created a binary-dword for "Autokill" with Decimal value "0"
then created a binary-dword for "MemoryThreshold" with Decimal value of "943718"
I have rebooted my phone several times and have not had any close issues.

EDIT: 20+ minutes and still no app closes, still browsing and switching between. I'm going to delete the keys, soft reset and test again just to make sure
ive found that 6.1 seems to establish a "baseline" of how much ram it wants to keep free, if i let it have 22-23mb free after a soft reset it will kill any apps in the background to get back up to 23mb, even if the app it kills is only using 500k or so
if i open a bunch of apps right after a soft reset, and get the ram down to about 10mb, i can run all day perfectly stable, and keep all those apps open, or close them and open others and be fine, but i let it free up more ram and 6.1 realizes it can have more ram it starts closing apps to reach the "new" baseline
Alright...
So...
That reg edit appears to do nothing. But. I think I may have stumbled onto something that may be causing the issue.
Reset 3 times and tried lastfm with removed reg keys. Nada - multitasked as previously mentioned with no issue. Had me confused. Then I realized I had never run Oxios Close/Hibernate since my last boot. Something I generally do at least once or twice a day, my phone usually doesn't get reset unless I'm installing something. Closed lastfm, ran Closeapps, launched lastfm and tried to multitask, closed out within 5-15 seconds. Something that Oxios (and most likely other tools like it) messes with WM memory management. I realize that even after a fresh boot I'll sometimes run Oxios (quick way to check ram). Either it loads something into memory or the function is sends is somehow looping or causing WM memory to close nonfocused apps.
So, essentially not any further along, but maybe mem management apps are more responsible than many have guessed before? Anyone else have some time to do some independent research?

HTC Hero trouble synchronizing with PC? Read this...

Hi Heroes
Did you ever have trouble syncing your Hero with your PC? No connection with HTC sync? Only usb connection and access to the SD card? Maybe you got no connection at all? HTC sync couldn't find the driver... Or you actually used to be able to sync, but you can't anymore?
Well, I know how annoying this can be There are a few things you might wanna try. They worked for me...
a) Get HTC sync and install the drivers.
Windows 7 users (like me) will get an additional challenge, but it is doable IF you read this this thread (entirely!)
Remember the HTC Hero sync tab in the notification area trick (mentioned by #19 Magnus in the above thread).
Also remember #7 Daniel Kruschinski comment on restarting the phone.
b) Now, why create my own topic if every answer can be found in this thread? Simple: I DON'T WANT TO RESTART MY PHONE EACH TIME I HAVE TO SYNC!
Question:
Sync works after phone restart (if drivers are installed properly), but stops working after a while... why?Answer:
Because the HTC sync app (called "PC synchronization" or similar) ON THE PHONE stopped working.Question:
Why did the application stop working?Answer:
Because a) it shut down on its own (bug or whatever), or because b) you killed it with a app like Advanced Task Killer (ATK) in order to try to free some memory because your phone was being sluggish...Question:
Why not simply restart that app by going to "Menu" - "Settings" - "Synchronization" - "Sync with PC", since this IS the app?Answer:
...because it doesn't work! You can restart the app after it died, and it will show on ATK, but the syncing WILL NOT work. Weird, but that's the way it is...Question:
So what do I do?Answer:
Don't kill it! Oh, and by the way, if you use ATK, unchecking HTC sync in the program WILL NOT BE GOOD ENOUGH!: ATK will still kill it (!).
You HAVE TO add it to the "Ignore List" in ATK in order to keep it running (long press on the app in the list, then choose "ignore"). Strange, but true... This only applies to HTC sync, as far as I can tell. Don't ask...
A few more things, while we're at it:
- If the events of the calendar OF THE PHONE don't transfer to your Outlook calendar or your Google calendar , read this thread to know why (jr2408 's post).
why, WHY did they do that? Why can't you merge the calendars? Why can't you change the event's calendars after having entered them? At least, the phone remembers your calendar event settings... Uff!
- Here are a few apps you might want to install. They are free, and they are really usefull:
Advanced Task Killer free:
Allows to free memory by shutting down unused background apps. Removes sluggishness - awesome! Remember to use the ignore list for apps like HTC sync and TouchFLO
Quick Uninstaller:
Makes uninstalling apps a one-click operation. Cool!
Y5 - Battery saver:
Fantastic! Turns off the phone's wifi when you're not close to your (or a chosen) Access point. Remembers location by GPS tracking and thus saves you A LOT of battery energy. Try it, really...
3G Watchdog:
Keeps you informed of your Data connection rate (on 3G network, not wifi) and warns you when you reach a certain value. Very useful for those who don't have free unlimited transfer...
aTrackDog:
Keeps your software updated, even if it doesn't come from Android Market.
ASTRO:
An explorer which lets you manage your files.
Barcode Scanner:
Obvious...
Shazam:
Recognizes songs by listening and finds info on the Web. Impressive!
Wifi Analyzer:
Helps you spot the most appropriate Access point if several are in the area...
Sky map:
Helps you identify stars in the sky. Powerful!
AND:
Robo Defense (addictive!); Mario Simulator (laughing guaranteed); OI Flashlight (a "where is the #@! keyhole"-killer); Metal detector (eat that, I-phone braggers!)
If you got cash, don't forget CoPilot for GPS navigation, which allows to DOWNLOAD entire maps and store them on your SD card.
Et voilà! Comments welcome, recommended apps, advices... You tell me!
Questions are welcome, but answers are even more. Share!
Very useful post
very nice thanks!!!!!
My Hero doesnt detect the HTC sync on my Vista. I have never been able to sync with PC. I dont want to sync with PC as sync everything with google. But I need to sync with HTC sync for ROM upgrade. I have tried everything. I tried disablling the antivirus and firewall, put the program on teh Firewall exception list but nothing happnes. says that phone cannot detect HTC sync on computer. I hav downloaded the latest HTC sync from the HTC site. Any suggestions?
Hi all,
This is a little hello from me to you all. Like you all I've had problems with HTC Sync, unable to connect my HTC Hero, which I've only had for three weeks, but it seemly like a long time due to the problems I've had with HTC Sync and time I spend getting it to work with Outlook...
Anyway, I've read a lot of information here and externally i.e. google.com searches. I'm glad to say I've managed to HTC Sync to work..
This is what I did....Oh! I have a Windows Vista Ultimate 32bit, I GUESS this might work with any other installation of Windows, but not sure about Windows 7. If this works, please post here so people have one place to go to find the answer.... cheers.... and good luck!
1) Downloaded Andriod SDK, this was to allow debug USB connection. You can find it here.. http://dl.google.com/android/android-sdk_r05-windows.zip
2) Downloaded HTC sync version 2.0.33 (http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=283&cat=3&dl_id=933)
3) As I use my Ipod to sync music, I found Apple also installed Mobile device software, I uninstalled this.
4) Reviewed all software that related to USB and mobile devices and there were a few.... including my trusty HTC Diamond..., UN-installed them all...
5) Rebooted my laptop.
6) Installed SDK to C:\ASDK, then set-up Environment Variable to point to ;C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools, this is thanks to someone who posted this information on the web...sorry I can't find the reference, but here is my Kudos to you!
I rebooted my laptop...
7) I then installaed HTC Sync, but prior to the install, I stopped Anti-virus software (AVG), disabled my firewall.
8) Did another reboot.
9) Once my laptop was up and running.. ensured my firewall was disabled and disabled AVG, connected my Hero (baby) noticed Windows installed the USB drivers
10) Once the installed was completed, HTC Sync, did not see the phone, now I was pretty pissed at this point, however I wasn't going to give...
11) Whilst my phone was still connected, I decided to power it off and left it off for about 20 seconds.
12) Powered my Hero back on... and then that was it.... Windows found the phone not just USB, HTC Sync, noticed the Hero was connected and started the installation of the drivers, this took a bit of time... do be cool and wait...
12) HTC Sycn, status, conected baby, yeah!....
I setup what I wanted to sych, Contacts, calendar etc. and clicked on sync on the PC....
And it was great seeing this happen....
I hope this bit of information help someONE or someTWO at least... I know how much time I spent on this and if I can help save someONE or TWO save sometime - WoW It make me feel goooood....
Please post if it helps or if it don't...
Cheers and good luck to all
Right click "START". i was having troubles for hours even after all this reading get fed up. Press right click to delete HTC SYNC seen "START" and it went str8 to installation. let tha root begin!!

I am trying to use your method... but I don't quite grasp the meaning of point 6 (sorry for being such a noob, but I am at point of tears as I bough the Hero a few days ago as my first smartphone and now everything that can go wrong during freeing it into better phone, is going just wrooong).
So were do I set this C:\ASDK\android-sdk-windows\tools at? my PC? My SD card? How exactly I do it?
Thanks people for all the post, really... just at the beginning is quite overwhelming
Agnes
Thanks for the post.
I have a question for you guys that it is bugging me... why do you need sync? i've never used it so i don't get its purpose.
Thanks!

To be honest I don't know, but apparently it's necessary for installing ROM (following the steps from THE guide). I want to make sure it's working so that I won't get stuck with this problem in the middle of ROMing...
but later today I found my software is not up to date, but for some reason my phone errors with the phone+red triangle screen on, so I cannot update, without it I cannot properly root (even though the Universal Androot says it's rooted), and can't do anything. I am stuck at the moment, and plan to visit some store that claims they can do it for me... I feel disappointed and angry.:crying:

lol well like half the apps i use are root apps
hmm.. pandora radio is basically just web streaming radio app, you can Customize and save stations simply by entering 1 word and it will play songs related to your criteria… very amazing app. And it is good at putting songs together that are similar to the criteria you enter.
gesture launcher is probably my favorite... this app is so freaking useful. you basically assign swype gestures to open apps, shortcuts, any function of your phone. there is a little green android that stays on your screen at all times (very small, hardly noticeable) and whenever you are doing something and want to open a particular app or shortcut you just touch that little droid icon then draw your gesture and it opens up immediately. this app redefines "multitasking"
another good one is zedge.. basically a ringtone and wallpaper downloader
drop box does not require root.. it is a wireless file transfer portal from your phone to a computer... try that one out... amazing as well. i use it all the time.
Why not use the Market 'Top' lists. It's more comrehensive and covers a much larger sample group. i.e everybody using Android!
@vs511 : you must try to read a guide about how to root your's devide. You can you many useful app .
My best app (non root)
Astro manager - bluetool.
Advantage task killer.
QQ laucher.
Opera mobile.

If you want top apps you can try different sites like apktop, appbrain, etc they will give detailed info.
i dunno why people write their apps without saying what the apps are for? stupid

[Q] Problems on Xperia pro K16i or android system?

Hello,
i have this mobile for about half year, but have there some problems, that i still not able solve.
1) I see problems with lags and unwanted pausing at some games. But still not found why. And how. Because in some games i do not click on pause button, but game when i moving fingers on display randomly go to pause, or go to black screen or stop respond for while. It look as weak procesor, or it is problem of memory? This device have low memory, but i try kill every aplication that i can, but problem still persist. And i have also problem kill some aplications. I kill them and they start again. And not are because because must run.
I also try disable builded antivirus but too without changes.
In some cases mobile start wifi conection or data transfer, that i have set off.
I dont know how i can receive email when i have disabled wifi and data.
And two times mobile send premium sms that i unable control, and not figured in mesages, and not know that i send that kind of sms. I call operator to block all premium numbers to awoid this robbing.
2) android market is extremly chaotic and it look there is security problem - google play. Is posible found most easy way how to block some aplications to accest to sensitive operations? (acces to call, sms, and other services?)
Im thing there is too much many aplications that want baseless access to some services.
3) is possible mount on this phone Windows mobile 6.5? Because that system been most suited for me and in basic have most aplications that i need, and have also a loot prety good games. On android are there minimal.
Or some way to modify rom and kick and kill stupid aplications and system layouts.
Please can somebody good, frienldy help?
