If it does get bricked or bootlooped is there a method similar to odin, or rsd to unbrick? This is my first HTC device. Thanks

Brick means there is no recovering. You toss it and get another one.
As long as you can get into bootloader, you are not bricked. As posted above, the correct definition of a bricked phone is a phone that will not boot anything including the bootloader. This goes for any phone from any manufacturer, not just HTC. The phone ultimately is a paper weight at this point, and there is nothing that can be done, unless you have money for a JTAG device. I'm not even sure if a bricked Thunderbolt has been successfully revived with this device. Someone else will need to comment on that.
Now if you mean recovering a phone where its OS no longer boots, yes it can be re-flashed through bootloader (full RUUs and Radio) or recovery (custom ROMs).

Thanks for the help. Is there an app similar to odin or rsd that is run from the pc or is it all done through the phone on HTC?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Most work is done on the phone itself. In case of a non booting OS, the computer is only needed to transfer ROM files to the root of the SD card and to check the MD5 checksums. Custom recoveries such as Clockwork Mod or Aman_Ra will allow USB connections to set the SD card as Mass storage in case of a non booting OS.
Odin and RSD are flash programs, where as our phones are capable of flashing themselves without use of a flash program.

that answered my question perfectly. thanks everyone for all the help. im new to the bolt and came from the charge and must say that i am really happy already with what ive seen
To reach the Hboot where you can flash a recovery ROM turn off your phone hold volume down to reach this screen any flash should be named PG05IMG.zip

Here's a great place for you to get started. Read everything in it. It explains how to root, unroot, flash, troubleshoot, etc. This should answer anymore questions you may have as you continue to explore.

Yes it is needed as this is the flash file. The correct file name is PG05IMG and it is a .zip file. Full stock RUUs and Radios must be named PG05IMG (if when you DL it and it is not then re-name it)
Any file with this name MUST be flashed through HBOOT (bootloader). Just remember once you are finished flashing, you need to delete the flash file from your SD Card.
Custom ROMs are different in that they do not need to be renamed however they MUST be flashed through Recovery and not HBOOT.
Sent from my brain.
Ok so custom roms can be flashed in cwm. Does this include rooted stock roms or are those still in hboot with the pg05img.zip file?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Sorry for the late response but yes, rooted stock ROMs get flashed in recovery.

i got my photon 4g rooted without the loss of 4g(guess rooted but locked?).
anyways the way i got to recovery was thru a wall charger, i would use the app system recovery and it would let me do the following: charge mode(where plugged into wall would charge) and recovery mode(phone would reboot and be in recovery)
well i forgot the name of the app and the source. i know i saw it here and was wondering if you could refresh my memory..
my son was playing max payne when a ota came and he hit install. then i got the failed to load 2 error.
got it boot once and was quick enought to go into recovery. had to do a factory reset cause i lost my memory card and no backup was found, but i cant remember the name of the app. was just a .apk file.
thanX in advance.

Check out the sticky thread that says !!!LOOK HERE FIRST!!! by lokifish, it has everything you need. You might want to look there first before posting in the wrong section. This should go under Q&A.
I believe I posted it also in mof's rom thread.
But this really SHOULD be in the Q&A

well my problem is i accidently (stupidly) installed a rom on stock. didnt boot up tho . so of course i had a back up for stock. but it did not boot up visually . the bootanimation does sound off . but thats it . black screen. luckily im able to use stock 1 to apply other rom. but im need to want to get stock back. any help would be well helpful
switch to stock slot, mount /system and show me what files/directories you have there. i had same situation before.
stock slot was broken after backup restore
ps: to list dirs, mount system in ss, connect razr to computer then run adb shell
cd /system
ls -ls
printscreen output and share

My brother had the same issue with his phone as well... instead of letting me take a look he used RSDlite to try and reflash it and bricked the phone. I am currently now trying to unbrick the phone but I have to be careful that the battery doesnt die before I get it working again... Looking forward to learning the solution to this problem as well.
I did the exact same thing a few days ago... I'm running off of ROM slot 1, but would feel better with stock restored...

I actually followed one of the guys instructions to try deleting .\su-backup from system.ext3.win but I don't see that folder in there. How else can I get my stock slot back without Matting it?

OK OK guys yesterday I was deleting some bloatware apps that came with my phone like hangouts, books, talkback ,samsung apps stuff that I don't need.etc
in that time i had switched my phone off around 4 times and switched it back on from when I deleted those apps and now and there was no problems in the system. BUT when I was playing a game (you know how the screen automatically dimmers then the screen went black) that's what happened so i pressed the home button to get the screen on and when i did the lock screen patternmfroze for a long time so I took out the battery than but it back in and switched my phone back on but now it just comes up with 'samsung galaxy ace GT-s5830i' and im not sure what to do. it can go in to recovery mode but i don't have CMW clockwork recovery. when i charge it comes up with the battery icon. I think it is in a boot loop. and I don't think it covers my warranty because ive had to send that phone back TWICE now back to fix it so I think they wont fix it any more. I have factory data reseted it and cleared the cache partition but still no use. I have taken the battery alot of times now and taken the sim card and the micro sd card but no use.

don't call yourself a noob..
odin is a flashing tool for samsung devices..
firmware is the system image,
and flashing is similar to installing..
go in development section and in stickies there is a guide to unbrick your device..!
"unbrick tutorial or guide"
carefully follow each step and get your phone back

OK guys I spoke to my mum about it and she says that if it wasn't your fault then she was going to send it back to the factory again to repair it because I realised we were paying for the phone on a locked 2 year contract. The only time its not under warranty is any damage due to 'physical actions' so hope fully it will just get repaired. But in this thred you can post questions

I'm having some issues with my phone, just been spiraling downward really. I want to go back to stock at least to start clean from. All I have is cwm installed and am rooted. Will and factory reset(the test menu one) do this? Or what steps do I need to take. All help is greatly appreciated, Man I hate this phone. =(

You can use LG mobile support tool, load it from LG website. Boot your phone to S/W update mode. Then start LG support tool and select recover phone from menu.

a factory reset will probably not work if you made some root changes & etc.
If you have artas182x cwm operating, just install my cwm backup

extract the zip into your micro sdcard.
Don't worry the MetroPCS version (LGMS769) works fine on the T-Mobile version (LGP769)
Plus I tweaked the build.prop so move 2 sd works for some downloaded apps.
