Advised upgrades - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hello, all once more!!
I'd like to ask (and I beleave, that an ansver to this question is of onterest to lots of people) what are the advised upgrades for a Wallaby phone?
For example I have a QTek 1010 from Austrian One with factory settings. What OS is advised to upgrate? Are there any compatibility issues? Risks to damage device? (For example I'd like to install WM2003SE from lumpistefan's ROMKitchen)
One more question is about radio unit upgrades: if I know what an OS upgrade will give (a new and hopefully better) OS, I don't know what radio unit upgrade will give? And once more about radio upgrade: are there any compatibility issues? Risks to damage device?
Thanks
Yaroslav Novytskyy

If your radio is working then leave it alone is best. If you upgrade to wm2003 or 2003se you can always revert to your original rom if you back it up before flashing. The only damage I have seen is from flashing radio so be advised.

Thanx, for your answer! So I will *not* upgrade my radio, becouse I'm satisfied with the current...
(by the way where can I get info of what has changed, is upgraded since in new radio versions - a king of changelog)
And one more important question: are .exe upgrades for OS (since WM2003SE form ROMKitchen comes only in .exe form) secure, if to compare with .nb1 files flashing method? How do these methods differ?

As much as i know, there aren't any diffs/changelogs of the Radio Versions. .......
If all is going fine updating via exe is fine. But if you got any problems with the connection between PC and XDA, the upgrade will fail and the device won't coming up again. Then the only possiibility is to flash via SD. Also some ROMS prohibt flashing via Exe.
In my eyes flashing via SD-Card is the securest way getting an other ROM to the XDA. And if flashed about 100 times.... ;-)

Problem Solved: Dead devices due to tmob 1.72 + Downgrade

OK Guys. Problem Solved : Dead devices due to tmob 1.72 + Downgrade
Problem: New version changes Device ID, as well as ID format.
If you upgrade to tmob 1.72, you cannot downgrade back, as you cannot supply valid NBF files for the new device ID. If you try to play around, you end up with a very dull bootloader screen "Serial V.1.06", and nothing more can be done. SD card images cannot be flashed due to the same reason.
Untill our developers come up with a simple tool, the following 2 solutions can be used to get out of the disaster:
Solution 1:
(tested and 100% working for both dead devices stuck in bootloader and devices working but stuck with the tmob 1.72 version.)
You will need a working device (with old ROM before 1.72), besides your dead one.
1. Prepare your DEAD device in Bootloader mode. Don't connect it yet. (If it is still working but you want to downgrade, press Power+Action+Stylus, if it is already stuck in bootloader, just reset with stylus).
2. Connect your WORKING device, with OLD version via activesync.
3. Start the rom installation of your choice normally, with a version compatible with this WORKING device (Official or Modified NBF files via HymaUpgradeUT). If you don't know what I am talking about, just use your official file downloaded from your WORKING devices' provider).
4. Press NEXT, untill you are presented with the Current version and the one that will be installed. DO NOT click "UPGRADE" yet. (If you got an error so far, you are not using the correct version for your working device.)
5. When you get the dialog with the versions, disconnect the WORKING device from the craddle and connect your DEAD device, in bootloader mode.
6. Click "UPGRADE" and go get yourself a drink.
Et Voila.
Thanks to Victor for inspiring this solution.
Solution 2:
If you don't have another working device, and only have a dead one stuck in BootLoader, you can flash the attached image, through SD card. It will bring back your device to life with the BETA tmob 1.72 CE ROM.
Write the image to the card using "NTRW". Info on SD images and NTRW can be found in this forum.
Unfortunately, i don't have device even with working bootloader And it stuck in TMObile screen
I am sorry I have no solution for screwed Bootloaders, but if your device loads into the tmob screen, there must be something there still working. The only thing I can advise is to try to hard reset and not go into the extended ROM setup files (Soft Reset right after the Hard Reset and welcome procedure), but I guess you don't reach that far ....
What is about for XDA 1?
HI !
I have a Dead XDA. The bootloader is OK. How can I do with it ?
I need some advice for doing it, please !
Best reguard,
Carlo & Victor... You are GREAT!!
Okey.... I will try FIRST!!
please, where is the officiale t mobil rom ? we all have the beta (and thee pb you solve) but not the official one...
thanks
When i posted the T-mobile 172 rom i did not know how much greif it would cause people, sorry to everyone for this
As to the second solution using the SD card is it possible to use this method on a working XDA2.
Basically i have a UK XDA2 and of corse i getthe ID error if i run the upgrade, i dont understand very well how to change the ID part so could i just make the SD card with the rom on it and follow your instructions to recover a dead XDA2
Thanks
John
What should I do when I want to upgrade/downgrade...
I have the T-Mobile 1.72WWE rom installed.
Everything works ok for now, no problems.
But do I need to do when I want to upgrade/downgrade?
I don't have a second device so thats not an option
Please advise.
Thanks
To cairo31male!!
NOP!! Can't HELP!! Maybe the BOOTLOADER got the diffrent version? Mine is 1.03. Can u tell me how to upgrade the bootloader to 1.06?
And you mentioned about OLD version, what do you mean by that?
@hcnsoft:
The 2 solutions described above are for XDA 2's which have been screwed up by installing / uninstalling the latest beta version tmob 1.72. If this is your situation, and you have a working bootloader, both solutions should work for you.
@SEB152030:
The beta we have is 1.72, which caused all these problems. If you have another working device, as described in solution 1, you can revert back to the latest working official ROM (1.66), just follow the steps decribed above and use the official 1.66 upgrade program.
@applecom:
If your XDA 2 is dead, there is no harm in trying. But basically, this SD file will only work on devices that have already been upgraded to 1.72 and then died. If it is dead because of any other reason, I suggest you stick with older stable versions and don't try to mess up with 1.72 for now, until the developers come up with a simple tool to go back and forth between different roms. You can flash SD images that were made from other working devices that have your same model/language. You wouldn't get any errors that way.
@Panja:
Since your device is working, I suggest you wait a couple of days, before trying anything. The developers might come up with a simpler solution. If you absolutely have to downgrade, you can follow the solution 1 described above, but you will need another working device for a few minutes. Use the other working device which has the old ROM installed and start the OLD ROM installation software, then plug in your device with the 1.72 ROM AFTER you get the different versions dialog with the button "UPGRADE".
@Ivan-R: which method are you tying? Solution 1 or 2? FOr the first solution, I guess it should work. For the SD flashing, I beleive you should have Bootloader 1.06. How to get that one, I don't know, but I strongly advise against it, untill all this matter is clear, as each new version of the bootloader implements stricter security, which will make it harder to customize in the future.
OLD version means any version before 1.72

I already try BOTH solution!! Solution 1, i try with ROM 1.03.11, which is thats the basic ROM. Solution 2, the RESULT is Not Allowed UpDate!!
So i guess this is the matter of BOOTLOADER!! Yours is 1.06 and me 1.03. THATS THE PROBLEMO NOW!! Now... How about upgrade the BOOTLOADER??
[email protected]#$!%G FREAK ROM!!
Mas Ivan,
Sebaiknya anda jangan menggunakan sd image yang di upload karena masih beta untuk menghindari kesalahan pada rom 1.72
thanks cairo for the info, my xda is working with the standard rom, Our only problem is me and the guy that got the rom in the first place would like to use it but we cant
anyway thanks for youe info

Solution 1 don't work for me because (I think) 2 version of bootloader 1.03 and 1.06.....
I found a solution : Here
Radio Stack Downgrade
I loaded the 1.72 Beta and would like to keep it, but the Radio Stack is horrible for me. I need to go back to the O2 launch version of the radio stack. I noticed in the O2launch Rom that the contents of the exe file included Radio.nb while the 1.72 exe contained Radio.nbf.
Is it safe for me to try and downgrade only the radio stack and if so should i use the launch version of himalaya upgrade or the 1.72 version of himalaya upgrade to install the launch radio.nb file?
Can anyone give me some advice here? My radio is barely functional. can't find networks where i know there is coverage. Thanks for any advice.

Go go go... Just downgrade it!! 8) Then you will join me in HERE!! Huahahahaha... You are STUCK for the REST OF YOUR LIFE!!
Didn't have any trouble downgrading
I just upgraded to 1.72 last week...hated it...gprs was WAY too slow. Today I downgraded and crossed my fingers back to Xda_II_Upgrade_v16050.exe (filename..not sure where i got it).
IT WORKS!! everything went fine and is fine.
I think my bootloader said it was something like version 1.01 (very hard to read that screen without the backlight) So I'm guessing this downgrade problem may be specific to bootloader versions.
No expert, just letting you know what i did.
This site is amazing. Thanks for everything.

Hi,
Thanks for all help!
I have a dead unit due to 1.72 ROm.
Itried to fool the himalya upgrade program with a soft reset as suggested in another thread, it works It gets trough the device id but stops when erasing rom, any suggestion?
Is there anyone out ther that can disassamble the himalyprogram and
make a small program without error checking?
I also have bootloader 1.06 and tried also "ntrw write ROM.nb1 H:"
It works writing the image but my bootloader don´t loads any rom.
Tried with 2 differnet SD cards, and soft reset, hardreset, and only pushing camera button, without succes, what is the right command?
Any more suggestions?
@nilron:
Press ARROW KEY (any direction on joystick) + POWER Button + SOFT RESET, all together, then wait a little. You should get instructions to press POWER to start flashing.

Beginners Guide to Unlocking/Upgrading the ROM

So you want to try some ROM other than the shipped ROM for your Athena!
What Do you need to know?
Backup
You should also know that doing this will usually wipe all the info off your phone(except the microdrive and SD card)
So it is important that you learn to backup any info that you want to keep.
I suggest using pimbackup and I usually back up MyDocuments by syncing with your computer or even copying it to your SD card.
I do this as a routine everytime I fiddle with my ROM so I can return to the previous state.
I also use Sprite Backup as well.
Remove Sim/Sd card
Next , make sure you remove your SD card and simcard before proceeding to apply Olipros unlocker
Unlock
Well you have to unlock your ppc to accept a new ROM.
I haven't done this for a while , but fortunately the process has been made easy by Olipro in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315831
and in german in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=378216
Check Bootloader Screen
Throughout this forum you will be referred to your SPL.
This is the Secondary Program Language and on your unadulterated ppc it will be 1.1
Olipro's original unlocker upgraded this to 1.1x but the unlocker above will change it to SPL 1.2
You can see if this has already been done by putting your phone into the Bootloader screen.
This is done by holding the camera button completely in and then pressing the reset button.
You will now see a red/green/blue and white striped screen telling you the device id and SPL version.
If you see SPL 1.2 , you are good to go to load any SPL 1.2 Rom.
Activsync/Windows mobile device centre.
You need this program to apply updates to your ROM
There used to be a problem with earlier versions of these programs not recognising WM6 ROMS.
This problem is easily solved by updating these programs
Upgrading Radio
No there is no FM radio on the Athena, this refers to the operating System radio that operates the phone/wifi/gps etc
This is important to know as AP4 needs at least radio 1.50 (and maybe WM6.1roms)
Upgrading the radio proceeds the same way as a rom upgrade
version1.58 is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409271
version1.57 is here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=372904
Where to find a ROM
Fortunately Sergiopi has collected and sorted them here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=397518
Walk me through the Process
1.backup data
2.remove sim and SD card, apply hard reset and wait till full initialization complete before connecting to pc.
3.establish Activsync connection
4.ensure no background program running, antivirus, firewall and etc. before executing flash command.
5 start the unlocker and follow the instructions.
6.reboot phone and make sure you still have activesync
7.**Update the ROM to an SPL appropriate rom according to what appears on your bootloader screen**
following the above protocol
Great!
Now you should have a new ROM to play with!
And play with it you should !
But I want to try an SPL3.5 ROM!
OK if you got this far You should be able to do this.
**First step is to install AP4**
At the moment there is only 1 foolproof way to do this and this is to use the Athena Updater
But first read the upgrade Guide Please Here http://www.htc-hackers.com/uploads/AP4_How_To_1.8.pdf
It is very detailed and I recommend following it exactly !!
This is the link to the athena Updater
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387409
Now I want to go back to SPL 1.2
Ok. this is possible
see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405604
Need to know more or Stuffed the Flash?
Don't worry , nearly everyone here has made a mistake but been able to recover.

If you have any suggestions to change What I have written ,post a reply.
Advanced:SD Card Flashing
Rather than using Activesync/WMDC it is possible to flash using the SD Card
from the athena Wiki (a good source of info)
"Rename the .NBH file to ATHEIMG.nbh and copy it to your miniSD card. Press camera+soft reset to bootloader and wait for reading ATHEIMG.nbh from SD. Remember, the miniSD card must be formatted with a FAT32 filesystem before copying the file ATHEIMG.nbh to your miniSD. After finished, do a soft reset."
this doesn't work with SDHC cards .

you need to learn a few skills like reading the wiki and then doing a search of the forum.
also this question has nothing to do with the title of this thread.
The problem you talk about is not confined to the X7501 and i refer you to a sticky in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387986
At the top of the forum is a new section called question and answers and I suggest you look there as well
I had unlocked my device and upgraded radio version to 1.58. Different Roms tested , last was Michy 5.1.
For variuos reason I had to reinstall the Original HTC Rom and again everything was working succefully.
Now I would like to reinstall Michy Rom 6.1 and once I enter the bootloader the screen is showing:
ATHENE 100 IPL-v1.00 ( standard)
as well as one line below
ATHENE 100-SPL-v1.20 Olipro
In order to avoid to brick my device my question is:
I can flash the Michy Rom straight or I still have to repeat the unlock procedure since the beginning again?
Thanks and regards

You can only flash SPL 1.2 ROMs and last time I looked Michy 6.1 was only SPL3.5.
You would need to upgrade to AP4 first as outlined in my first post

update rom and radio
Can someone help me? I have updated my dell axim rom many times but in the case of athena (u1000) i am afraid to do it because it is also a phone. I am not sure whether the radio 1.58 is applicable world wide mobile phone network or is it just in the united states. I live in Malaysia and we have several mobile phone network providers like digi, celcom and maxis.
Also should the radio be updated first or the rom first? Thanks

Radio 1.58 works everywhere as far as I know and is not carrier specific.
I could not get mms to work.
You need to upgrade to radio 1.5 at least to load AP4 and I think people had troubles if they used an earlier radio with WM6.1 roms.
So I guess it would be best to upgrade the radio first.
Thanks
Thanks lakeman,
Thanks for your clear clarifications about the radio updates and the AP4 Roms.
i am beginning to feel confident again about updating my u1000. I have read so much about michy's rom and a few others. The official rom in my device is stable but might be a bit slow if i were to compare to my axim x51 using the latest L11 rom from Lenny.
The joy of having responsive roms made me reluctant to sell of my dell axim even though I am using my u1000 most of the time now. I wonder if anyone had sold off their previous axim after using u1000 (athena x7500) and regretted.
But if i must use my u1000 which has features that no other ppc has namely the large screen, i would like to have better roms than the official roms.
Thanks to all here who have contributed so much to improve the athena!
lakeman
your instruction seems the most easy to follow (at least for me)
So i am itching to try upgrading my dopod u1000 here in malaysia.
So if i just want to upgrade the radio 1.57/58
I have to
1. do the unlocking using olipro (3 steps)
2. remove sd card and sim
3. connect to pc using activesync
4. install the radio and
5. hard reset (will be done automatically)
CORRECT?
If i want to upgrade to a say michy rom
1. do the unlocking (3 steps)
2. remove sd and sim
3. connect to my notebook (activesync)
4. install radio
5. hard reset
6. connect to notebook (activesync)
7. click on the say michy new rom installer on notebook
8. follow til the end
9. hard reset (automatically will be done)
10. NEW UPGRADED ROM!
Am i correct?
Thanks!!!
(Any recommendations regarding ROMS for a start if a newbie like me wants a the fast u1000 but as plain as possible so that i can choose what to install later?)

[Q] HTC Hero on 3 UK

Hi
I have just recieved a new HTC Hero on contract with 3. I am relatively new to ROMs and radios etc. I just had a few questions with regards to the hero ?
I only have an internet allowance of 512mb, will this be enough for the phone ? Are there any free programs which can track this ?
I want to change to the latest 2.1 Rom but I am unsure if this ROM is faster than the current 1.5 ROM. What would you recommend is the fastest and most stable 2.1 ROM for the hero ?
Does the 2.1 ROM use more battery power than the 1.5 ROM ?
If I were to change the ROM would I be able to make a backup of the "out fo the box" ROM. I know I have a lot of questions and most likely a few more to follow but any feedback is appreciated.
Regards,
Riyaz

OK. 2.1 ROMs are miles better
Battery life should be a bit better. You make a nandroid backup if you want to store your current config.
There are apps to track data usage in the market (free). Droidwall (on custom ROM) will let you control what apps get internet access.
If you ever needed to restore to box condition, you could run your nandroid restore, or just use a goldcard and 3 UK RUU
HTH
512 meg will usually be enough provided you dont sit there on youtube all month, or use tethering and download substantial amounts. Make sure it connects to Wifi when it can. I have 500mb and while it seems little I've never had a problem.
I rooted a 3 uk hero the other day. Massive issues with it. I was on 2.73.771.73 or something and I had to make a goldcard, then downgrade to something else, then install flashrec, then flash a new recovery then flash a rom. Horrible to find the drivers etc needed to downgrade though. I needed to change them to "My HTC" drivers for HTC Sync and bootloader. Using 64 bit win 7 by the way.
I appreciate the feedback guys. I have done some more reading and I think I want to install VillainROM 12. Just a few more questions before I attempt to have a go !
Is the goldcard method the best way to root the hero ?
Once it is rooted, would it be relatively easy to return to the original 3 uk rom ? (How would I create a backup of this ?)
To install this ROM am I correct in assuming I would need to root the phone. As my phone is on the 3 UK network, it is running android 1.5. I am unsure of which radio is installed, and hence would you recommend updating the radio to:
"update-hero-radio-63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14-signed.zip" ? (I think this is the most up to date radio for the hero).
I know some of these questions are probably common knowledge but I am new to this so please bear with me.

Thank you very much for the support guys. I have done a bit more reading and I think I have it figured out but before I start just wanted to confirm the process in case I miss something out or the order is incorrect. This is the process I plan on using:
1. Backup the phone using nandroid and save folder on to PC
2. Goldcard procedure. Setup SDK, create the goldcard.
3. Downgrade using this goldcard to 2.73.405.5
4. Install AmonRa's (v1.6.2) Hero recovery image (Am I correct in thinking there is a new recovery image out ? Which one should I use ?)
5. Load VR12 and reboot
6. Update the radio to 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.14. This bit scares me as I think this may potentially brick the handset !
7. Reboot phone and hopefully should have rooted hero with VR12 and latest radio.
Is this order correct ? Any tips ?
I will be using Windows 7 32 bit, do I need to install any extra driver's ?
Many thanks
Riyaz
You have it summed up correctly (assuming you're currently running v1.5 of android).
To answer a few of your questions/worries
Yes there is a new version of AmonRA's recovery. May as well use it. Seems fine to me. v1.7.0.1 (i think)
The radio will be fine. It's only an issue if you pull the battery whilst its going (user error) or you have a sprint cdma hero (user error).
Tips - install the latest version of HTC Sync v3.0.5387 from here first. This will ensure the correct drivers are installed. If you get an error whilst downgrading just update the drivers in windows to those installed with HTC Sync (HTC folder on C drive) and run the update again and all will work. That is perfectly normal and happens to some (probably most) users.
Enjoy.
Hi
I installed the HTC Sync in that link but when I try to connect it says this software is only for devices which are running 2.1.
Any ideas ? I cannot set-up ADB without syncing the phone. I hate windows 7 !
Doesn't matter - just need the drivers. Nothing else
Thanks I will continue tonight. Just another question about backing up the original rom on the phone. Am I correct in assuming I need to switch the phone off, turn back on and hold power button and home key and it boots into recovery mode I think. I do not see an option to create a backup. I do however get a cache error. Any idea's ? Am I doing something wrong ? Can I create a backup image via this method ?
Any idea's ?
Apprecuate the feedback guys.
You haven't got a custom recovery image on the phone yet. What part of the process are you trying to do?
Hi
Sorry I just re read my post and it is not very clear. I am referring to the first step of making a backup. If i want to make a backup of the original ROM on the phone (the three ROM), how would I go about making a full backup incase anything goes wrong whilst I am trying to root the phone ? What I am trying to say is I want to have abackup incase I get it wrong whilst rooting.
Apologies for the questions.
You'll have to read up on that. I don't think there is an easy to follow guide. Check out the nandroid details with a quick google search. Personally i've never bothered with this part of the process because as long as there is a 3 network rru exe file (check htc's website) then you can always go back (obviously losing your personal settings). When you run the rru it removes everything you have done and sets the phone back to the state it arrived in.
If you do do it then please make a simple to follow guide for others.
Am I correct in thinking that if anything were to go wrong during the rooting process, I can still restore the phone via a 3 network rru exe file (all be it loosing my settings). Just in case I do make a mistake, how would I go about restoring the phone ? Would I simply place the RUU file on an SD card and then run the RUU file ? How would I run the RUU file ?
I have looked on the HTC website and cannot seem to find this RUU file for a hero on the 3 network. Does anyone have this RUU file and would they be kind enough to forward it on to me or a link to the RUU ?
Thank you guys for being so patient. I know I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer !

That should be the 3UK rru file. I would recommend keeping a copy just in case. You just run the file from any windows PC and it will do its stuff.
You are correct in your deductions and sharp enough
Hi
Just an update guys, I have managed to create a goldcard but I cannot get HTC sync to work with Windows 7. I tried to follow the advice provided but it just states Windows has picked the best driver for this. I am tearing my hair out !
Any ideas on how to sync htc hero running 1.5 cupcake with windows 7 ultimate ?
Regards
Which version of HTC Sync are you running?

[Q] Update radio firmware without reflashing a different ROM? - SOLVED

Hi,
I recently updated my Mozart to Mango via the beta invitation.
The reason being that I was unable to force the Mango update via Zune and was not included in the first update wave.
So I activated the beta invitation that I had received several months ago (I'm a registered developer) and set up a PC with the old beta versions to flash my Mozart.
After going through all the updates (I was on 7392) including ISV, I am now on 7720.
However, my phone did NOT update the firmware.
I am therefore currently stuck with:
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.12803.111
Radio software version: 5.52.09.16_22.33a.50.10U
Bootloader version: 1.28.2250.3(113810)
But my OS version is: 7.10.7720.68
Do you know of any way to get the new firmware revision and the new radio software? (I would like to keep my data on the phone and would therefore be happy, if I don't have to reflash a Mango-rom that has these updates included)
Thank you very much in advance
Best regards,
FrozenLord
little info
The only words I can say is that after offical update (free phone in france,)
figures are:
Firmware : 22.50.21.40.600.401
Radio: 5.69.09.05a_2250_50_50_21U
spl; 4.6.2250.0 129193
i have the same later radio and firmware version numbers as well, after tricking the update with the Zune and Local Area Connection disable method.
Hi,
I do know that you receive these updates when updating via the regular way (even if it's tricked).
Unfortunately, this way was not possible for me - for a reason I don't know.
So I used the approach I explained above and am NOT able to do the regular update.
Does anybody know of any way to update these components separately?
Best regards,
FrozenLord
I updated my wife's Mozart to Mango 7720 via the 'leaked' MS employee release. Her phone still had the original firmware after the Mango update like yours. I was beginning to anticipate having to reflash her phone with the Stock ROM when two days ago she got a message of an update in Zune. Sure enough it was an HTC update that brought the firmware up-to-date, the same as mine updated via the public release. You just may need to wait a bit longer.

Hi,
I have the same problem. My carrier is also t-mobile germany. Maybe it is a problem from them??? If you find a way to tricker the firmware update. please let me know.
I finally found a way
Hi there
After a lot of fiddling around, I have finally found a way to upgrade the radio rom without losing the private data.
You will need at least the following applications:
- A modified RUU so the flash is not erased after the update (which is a standard procedure in the standard RUU, so use the modified one and ignore the HD7-part - it works!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204733
- The actual radio update (5.71.09.02a from the HTC Mozart Europe ROM) https://rapidshare.com/files/1216711649/RUU_unsigned.nbh
Now, before you start doing anything that you might regret or wonder about later, I suggest that you read the complete post
I've tried to explain all the pieces and posted my experience too.
Just for security (better safe than sorry!), you should create a complete backup of your phone to fall back to if anything goes wrong.
A great tool is provided here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14258464#post14258464
Now for the instructions
I am not responsible for your actions or any consequences that are caused by this mod! You do all this on your own and can hold no one responsible but yourself!
Download both files and extract them into the same folder.
Reboot your phone and keep the VOLUME DOWN button pressed, while turning it on
You should see the SPL-screen (a strangely colored screen like this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16189686&postcount=3)
Connect the phone via USB to your PC
(Windows should install a driver - if not, install Windows Mobile Device Center if you're on Windows Vista/7)
Fire up the modified RUU and click through
You should be ready to go
By the way:
I almost killed my phone in the testing procedure because I created an invalid nbh (had no idea what I did and started fiddling without tutorials ), which seemed to have killed parts of my SPL...
The process was easily fixed (fortunately) by applying the HSPL by DFT, which fixed the problem (which was that my phone always booted back into the SPL-screen, unable to boot into WP7).
But since that moment, I've got HSPL installed.
So if the above procedure does not work for any reason, install HSPL and try again
HSPL can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
Also, I updated the ROM using a standard RUU and found out about the FLASH-format after applying the update the hard way (resulting in a totally clean mobile...).
Fortunately, I had created a complete backup before and was easily able to restore it via the same application.
Should you happen to run a normal RUU for who-knows-what-reason, just restore the update. (the radio rom is NOT downgraded in the restoring process, so you're good to go, even if you chose the wrong RUU)
Just out of curiosity (and knowing that I had a backup to fall back to) I reran the update process using the modified RUU (see link above) and the flashing went fine - and the phone did not format itself afterwards
Therefore: Ignore the HD7 in the name, it works for the HTC 7 Mozart too.
I used this tool to extract the Radio-rom (and the including customisation) and repacked it using the same tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1260757
Thanks a lot, ted973 for providing it
Additionally, I am glad that DFT had released the HSPL for my phone, else I would have had a problem
Thanks a lot guys!
Now have fun with the updated radio and feel free to comment
My versions are now:
OS version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.12803.111 (unchanged to before)
Radio software version: 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Bootloader version: 1.32.2250.1(119496) which is because of the DFT HSPL
Best regards,
FrozenLord
@ FrozenLord
did you debranded your mozart or did you have an unbranded device in the first place ?
i'd like to figure out a way to get the latest radio on a debranded mozart. seems like zune doesn't update the bootloader and radio on a debranded device.
I've got a T-Mobile branding.
But the procedure should work for an unbranded mobile as well
thanks a lot. will try to get my debranded phone to the normal update route with your tip.
