Qtek 2020i Should I Flash ? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I've been reading the forums avidly for the last few weeks but I can't find a definitive answer to my question.
I have a Qtek 2020i, which I believe is a XDA iii clone, which I also believe is known as an Himalaya Alpine. Hopefully, this shows I have been reading the forums and not just posted a question.
My Question is, Should I flash my rom ??? I know there isn't a rom upgrade for my model, but I do know that some people have flashed the rom for different models into their XDA iii. What benefits would this give me ? What would I lose ?
I don't have many problems, the occasional lock up, phone switching on by itself etc. I did have a problem with the GPRS connection bug but found a fix in the forums, and it worked.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.

Himalaya == xdaII
Alpine / andes == xdaIIi
you can only use apline / andes roms on your device

PPC 2003 upgrade

Dear all,
I am currently running ROM V. 3.17.03 and radio stack V. 4.21. and recently contemplating on installing PPC 2003. I have also read tons of unpleasent articles about severe installation failures. Would any of you guys know whether I can re-install my existing rom version in case the installation of the new 2003 version does not work fine. Any other comments concerning this are extremely welcome. Thanks in advance
I've been back and forth twice now with no problems, however I could not go from PCC2003 to o2's 3.17, said something about authentication, but you can go back to xda dev 1.2 and then, if you wish, install o2's 3.17.
The above was using the Programme A way as I don't (yet) have a card reader.
If you have any concerns I recommend waiting a little while longer till the next version comes out.
My thanks to you York mate
I've also (and a few other friends) managed to go up and down quite a few times without trouble.
Go for it!
2003
i have installed 2003 twice with no trouble i think the secret is to follow the instructions properly.

One more concern to you, generous mates. I have read somewhere in this very forum that the units bought in ASIA are not supporting the PPC 2003 due to some differences in their physical designs. Any comments on this. Thanks again in advance.
One more thing: TO Poci: If you prefer the ppc 2003 over the version 3.17.03, you can download the unofficial release at no cost, thanks to our generous friend, Ali. The site ishttp://www.ali.nildram.co.uk/xda/. Cheers
also you can find the ROM at

I have an ASIA unit, running it in Australia fine with the 2003 ROM and 4.21 Radio. I think they are just trying to force people to upgrade to the new XDA II when it comes out.
Jeffrey
Hi again
Problems seem to come and go at their own will. Great news is I have successfully installed the ppc 2003 while the worst news is that I just discovered that my newly and expensively bought external keyboard ceased to funtion since the driver installation indicated versions incompatibility. Any suggestion on the keyboard driver version that could do with the ppc 2003? Anyone? please suggest.
Hi,

Upgrade to O2 ROM from i-mate- Is it worth?

Hi folks,
I have an i-mate with the following specs:
ROM : 1.72.00WWE
Radio : 1.14.00
Protocol : 1337.24
Ext ROM : 1.72.800
After going through the numerous posts here, I am thoroughly confused. Can someone please clarify the following:
1. Is is better to upgrade to the new O2 ROM? If so which one, since I understand there are 2 versions.
2. If I do upgrade, there seems to be something called O2 active. Would this or any other settings hamper the usage of my phone since I live in India?
3. Can I have the procedure to do this upgrade?
My humble apologies if some of these questions have been answered before, but frankly, I am completely lost! :? Thanks a ton in advance.
Cheers!
Lakshman
Lakshman,
Will try to help you out once by compiling everthing from other threads:
1) There are 2 versions: (thanks to Nighthawk)
- v1.72.187 does not have Blackberry software built in. If you need to use a permanent GPRS connection that will remain connected when phone is used, you should use 187 version.
- v1.72.181 features Blackberry, will disconnect any connection when phone rings, except the Blackberry, Mobile Web and WAP connections. But so far haven't heard of any non UK O2 users able to use the Blackberry.
2) About 02 Active, i find it pretty but useless to non UK 02 users; therefore, once you upgraded your ROM it will prompt you for O2 Active Settings like Country, GPRS or GSM, just hit 'Cancel' and it won't install the GRPS or other network settings. You can still use the O2 Active but a lot of function will not be available for use in India. I removed mine.
3) Not too sure if your unit is CDL or O2 (info from HimaGetDeviceData.exe) but my upgrade was no issue at all; i just download from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12515 and ran the upgrade. If you encounter country ID error, then you would have to refer to DCS's thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12101
Hope this helps.

You mean I canot use my GPRS after cancelling and what other network settings are you referring to?
Can you elaborate? Thanks
RE
Hi Lazzy,
Thanks to your input, I went through the upgrade successfully. Many thanks to DCS for his excellent step-by-step guide to fix country id errors.
I am now facing a curious problem. I downloaded the Appsuite for XDA II provided in one of the forums here. When I try to install the utilities I get an error on my PPC saying could not install, "please upgrade your ROM and try again!" But I believe I have the latest ROM now. Could someone please advise. :?
Cheers!

We are trying to sort this one out Hopefully someone will come up with an answer soon.
Hi guys,
thanks for running an awsom website...
I just want some clarification on this thread.
So it is okay to upgrade an i-mate with an O2 Rom such as v1.72.181 and is this the best ROM for devices such as the I-mate currently?
Anyone? please answer my previous question as I really want to upgrade...
bump..
As for the os and radio you can use any 1.72 / 1.17 rom.
The differencen between al the roms is in the extended rom and thus just a matter of functionality you want : choose anyone you like and use dcs' guide to upgrade.
thanks man, I appreciate it.

Question regarding WM2K3SE (callerid Qtek language WWE)

Hi all,
since there are that many operatorid's compared to the language id..
i'm wondering if one of you guru's has successfully got the Qtek 2020 upgraded to WM2K3SE with the caller id Qtek and language id WWE
since i want to give it a try on my own 2020 i have been reading a lot of info on this board.
unfortunatly i'm loosing track on the various roms available..
it looks like that the 'sin' rom is currently for the 'english' the most stable.
however i'm missing a couple of things in his instruction which are being mentioned in the dcs- rom ..
therefor i'm a bit too scared to start updating my 2020,hoping there is someone who can has upgraded his 2020 with the roms and is willing to tell me which steps to take and which areas to be carefull about..
thanx in advance
yup without any problem. Surething I'm not a guru.
Regards,
Mark

Have a look on the UK O2 site. It has a IIi ROM there you can download in case of emergencies.
