I was also having the same trouble with the installer. Setup.exe kept on crashing. So I resorted to installing the program off the pda.
What you need to do is copy the following files to the pda:
wzd.cab
voice.cab
ttn.cab
gps.cab
Then run each one off the pda and the program should then be installed.
To install the maps just go through the setup to install it onto the storage card.
Oh and if you encounter the backlight problem whilst running Tomtom then you will need to press the "Red Disconnect Call Button" so it can be minimized, you will then need to go into the backlight settings and readjust them accordingly.

Explore Cd Tomtom 4.40 to go in the folder voice then to take the files voice04.cab and voice05.cab (are the English voices UK) Initially to put it to Program Files for example then to launch the cab since to this folder (Program Files) in your pocket PC
Voice11 and Voices12 (are the french voices)
This procedure corrects the problem of backlight
what do you mean ?
if you install a voice the backlight problem is gone ?
In my case that corrected the problem
I had this problem of backlight
During installation of files wzd.cab ttn.cab gps.cab
and for my part after to have installed the file voice 11 and Voice 12 .cab (women and men french voices) the backlight error disappeared
That was the good solution in my case
The backlight is automatically returned and work good after voice.cab installation
So I suppose that the 4 cab files describes above must be all present so that tomtom 4.40 run correctly
But it's not the same problem for everyone

First: thanks Nightspider and Dherrero for your tips!
it's hard working, but thanks to your tips TomTom 4.4 is beginning to work
on my XDAII.
I had to put the Benelux.CAB on the Storagecard. Only then it would install.
But I've ran into another problem, it says now "no maps found"
I suspect this have to do with the name and/or the place where you put
the directory with the maps. Can anyone who has a working TomTom 4.4
tell me the exact names of the directory, where the are and what files are in them?

When you want Dutch language you need to install the following cabs
voice14.cab = "Bram" a male voice
voice15.cab = "Eva" a female voice
voice16.cab = "Nora" i think (not tested)
Now the problem is where to put the Benelux map.

I've found it!
Put the Beneluxmap in \Storage Card\.
During executing Beneluc.cab it was stored on
\Storage Card\My Documents\Benelux.
So you have to put the Benelux map in the root of Storage card!

Same problem with the Dutch Language.
Pressing the hangup button and then go to the power settings to chance the backlight, solves the problem for the time being.
But i prefer a solution that works ever time.

hi, i have installed tomtom 5.0 but i cant pair my gps bluetooth(sysonchip). I worked with tomtom3.x and 4.x. When i launch tomtom and try to setup the gps, i only can bound with com2, 6, and 9. Any idea?
I have had the same problem with TomTom and Oncourse Navigator 4.2, I believe it is an incompatibility problem with WM2005. I tried using the built-in GPS manager in WM2005, but I do not think it is working in this version, or it will only work with newer GPS porgrams compatible with 2005.

The problem is TomTom list only the ports that appears in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Active but when you create an outgoing port (with the BT applet), it isnt included in this list. I ve create a little C program (5 kb) that include the port com5 manually, so Tomtom can see it and you can Select it. I ve put a link to this program in windows\startup to be executed after each reset. Now it works ))

Hi, This is the way it worked for me.
1) Create a outgoing port (5) to connect with the gps
2) Place the patch in \windows\startup (to be executed each time you reboot).
3) Reset the device.
4) Run tomTom, select "other gps bluetooth". Then you should see "Port 5".
If you need a diferent port tell me and i will recompilate the program or i will post the source code.
tomtom 5 doesn't install, program crashes.. tried 2 install the cabs... only ttn.cab gives a failure on install, the other cabs installed corectly.

Strangely enough, the patch still keeps working if you run this patch once, then delete it.
Doesn't look like you need to put it in your windows\startup directory.
yep, when tomtom bounds to the gps in port 5 (or other) it retains the port number.
Anyway keep the patch in your sd card (or other safe place)because you may need it if tomtom "forgets" the port
If i install it from the CD, the setup is crashing
If i copy the .cab "ttn.CAB" (2.58 mb) and copy it to the device and open it he say's: "Unpacking was unsuccesful"

just create a folder in Mydevice and call it Voices and copy the voices here :wink:

yesterday i flashed my xda neo (wm5) with the Transformer1.1 distribution from PDAVIET. Very nice. I like this style!!!
After installation i experienced some small problems that took me half a night to solve
But i would like to share my solutions after this horrible trip of searching...
1.) Problem: I tried to copy my Contacts from SIM -> Phone. No success. Even to start Contacts was impossible ( i saw the screen for about 1 sec or so).
Solve: Delete or rename the pim.vol file in the ROOT directory of your Prophet. That fixed the Problem.
2.) Problem: TimeWizard Notification always pops up everytime you turn on/off the scree or after reboot.
Solve: Download the free tool CheckNotify (can be found here: http://www.scarybearsoftware.com/product_detail.php?productname=checknotify ) and delete the notification. It is a deprecated notification from wm5. Dunno why it is still available in wm6 roms.
Thats all i can tell you, up till now. I additionally try to solve the problem of broken links in Programs like Modem Link (that i would like to use), Pocket MSD ( that i wouldn't miss), Terminal Service Client and ZIP functionality.
If anybody already has a fix for this i would be happy to know it
Otherwise i hope will soon be back with the fix.

Those problems are allready solved .. You just need to hard reset your device after flash..
It's better for your health if you would read the many threads on this forum. Al the probs you mention are caused by not doing a hard reset after flashing the WM6 ROM. You will encounter ActiveSync problems as well if you continue to use your Prophet in this state.
If you are confused about how to do a real, proper Hard Reset...

Same here, as soon as a call comes in and I accept it and hung up afterwards, I have to close and restart iGo, because it cannot find the GPS-Receiver anymore.
Hello ,just joined as i thought this was a cracking site with loads of info and the best place to find help .I have just bought a hd2 as i wanted the latest windows based mobile with a very large screen as i often use memory map and tom tom together ,i have been using both on the XDA ii with out any problems but the trouble was it had a seperate gps reciever ,also the camera was'nt very good .
Couple of questions i need help with please
I have installed memory map and it seems to run fine but is there a way of rotataing the screen on the hd2 from potrait to landscape ?
I have TomTom 7 Version 7.915 PPC ,will this work on the hd2 and is it as easy to install as it was on the XDAii i had ?
I am not very technicaly minded with these things so a very simple guide is what i am looking for .
I have used the search function but not with any success

You have to be careful which version of TomTom you install.
Here is the 7.917 version which will work with your HD2 - * TomTom v7.917 *
obviously you still need to buy the maps - as this site does not allow warez.

Trying to install bsb tweaks as you have mentioned ,i am trying to follow the video about flashing a custom rom mentioned on another thread , but when i attempt to run the custom ruu ( i downloaded it from this site seperate as one did'nt come with the BsB tweakes ) it keeps telling me" cant install check update utility "

spl doesnt matter so long as it ends '.hspl'
The error you got sounds like you havent put the roms.nbh file in the same folder with customruu.exe.
Just those two files in a folder on their own.
BUT you do know bsbtweaks isnt a rom, right? its a program that you install like any other, nothing to do with customruu.

like all programs. Copy the .cab file to your phone, anywhere (most people have a folder on their sd card for such purposes) then on the phone open up file manager, browse to where the file is, and click it to run it.

If i try to open anything else i get the message ,"there is no application associated ,run the application first .

nope, you have extracted the cab. (The pc thinks cab files are a type of zip file)
Dont do that. Copy the single cab file (bsbtweaks.cab or whatever it is called) to the phone and click it to run.
Cheers for the help yet again ,i have installed it and it seemed to install correctly ,yet when i ran the application it said it needs a newer version of microsoft for it to work ,any idea what i need now ?
