SD Card FM Radio for XDA 2s? - MDA III, XDA III, PDA2k, 9090 Accessories

Does anyone know if an SD Card with FM Radio is available for the BA? I think it would be a good value addition on to the device -- if anyone knows where I can find one, I'd be grateful for the link!

Hi,

Many thanks! However, the web site says that the radio will be available "soon" 8)

hmm that looks like a nice gadget! Bet the reception would suck tho.

Those waiting for HTC/Sprint for the ROM update

There is a reason it's not out yet, it's not even close to being released yet. There are problems that are being worked on in the ROM update. I can tell you that you probably won't see an update officialy released until maybe the end of march. How do I know this you ask? I am an engineer with sprint. I myself have the Mogul and am frustrated with the lack of GPS etc.
There's no lack of GPS anymore But there is a lack of being able to send pictures!
update
If your an engineer with Sprint...tell us what the holdup is.
I'd love to know what can be so baffleing to the entire company that months and months of work can't figure out.

If you're an actual engineer with Sprint, maybe you could tell us what we will be expecting from this new ROM, besides Rev A and GPS. Are the rumors running around here true about:
Windows 6.1
Sprint TV
etc.
Please enlighten us.......... It's driving us INSANE!
So, come on...level with us Chubz.
You're running DCD 2.x.x too, aren't you?!?!?

I'm thinking about moving to DCD's WM6.1 ROM because I'm so tired of waiting for the official release. The only thing stopping me is the SD card not working yet for it.
gimme a break this dude comes in here and spews out some garble about how hes an engineer COUGH COUGH he dont even know about the gps that WE all have already. Dude go somewhere else and play, none of us in here fell off the potato truck last knight. in fact I think i hear your mom calling you.

you have the gps update from a "leaked" or cooked ROM
Anyway the reason for the holdup is that they need it to run stable. Obvioudly it will run the new apps fine, but then the speaker might not work etc...
the official rom will obviously have:
GPS
Sprint TV
6.1
and supposedly a better task manager. Also help out the memory leak problem.
REV A
The sprint touch may get the GPS and REV A update first
It's nice to see Sprint being so concerned and cautious with their update. But then again, you work for Sprint, so shouldn't your statement be, "...we need it to run stable..." ?
Anyway, in the immortal words of Wayne, "Yeah... right... and monkeys might fly out my butt!"

i think DCDs 2.2.6 fixed the SD card issue, although my understanding it was only a problem if you used encryption (my SD card worked on all dcd roms)

Honestly, we know how this will go.. you claim it'll have SprintTv, then when it doesn't come out with Sprint TV, then one of 2 things will happen...
1) You don't reply to questions directed toward you because you're full of bologna
2) You do reply, and give us some bologna about how Sprint decided to not include it for some oddball reason.
If Sprint TV really does get put on a ROM in the future, then i'll give you respect, but until it happens, you can't just come into a community spouting off fiction hoping that people will think you're cool.. Honestly. Like i said, if you are who you say you are, then you'll get respect when what you say happens!

I can also confirm that I had no problems with DCD's ROM...
Back on topic, since all the good quotes have been taken, I'll believe this when I see it. I mean, it would be nice, but the day the OEM's give us a good ROM (that can't be made better by the likes of DCD, No2Chem, etc) is the day I stop using all devices and move to a cabin in the mountains without power...
The Touch may get updated first? I'm beginning to wonder if the next official Mogul update comes pre-installed in a Mogul 2.
First post here (from my Mogul) but long time lurker. Just running 2.17 but I'm tempted to install a dcd. My main concern is the radio stability as I like to stream alot of audio.
chubzilla, you had to know when you posted who you were, you would take alot of shots from people on this site. There are alot of angry people here that have been waiting for sprint and HTC to get off there butts and fix the problems with the mogul.
I guess what I would like to see is an official response from sprint about the status of the ROM Update other than "Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008."
Outdated information like this just inflames customers.

Titan Radio ROM 3.42.30

Taken from the new official Vogue Ship Rom and ported to the Titan.
Flash with USB using the executable here: (If you already have SPL 2.40/2.47, you MUST downgrade to 1.20 using TitanUnlocker before flashing the radio via USB. When it completes, reflash SPL 2.40/2.47.)
http://rapidshare.com/files/125518524/Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30.exe.html
or
Flash from Storage Card using TITAIMG.nbh here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/125052225/Titan_Radio_ROM_3.42.30.rar.html
I take no responsibility if you mess up your phone.
In your opinion, would it be better to stick with the 3.42 version of the titan radio, or go with this 3.42 which has a slightly higher revision number from the vogue?
any sort of compatibility issues to worry about?
The radios work cross device. There's always a chance for side effects later on down the road as is the case for anything. I've been running this radio now since this afternoon and have seen no problems. In fact, I've personally seen an improvement. I'm not going to comment whether it's "better" than 3.42.02.
THANKS!
That was quick. I just flashed 3.42.02 last night and was dissapointed in the GPS not locking.
I now have this 3.42.30 flashed and GPS locks on quick!! And I also tried, live search, Google maps, and GPS Speed Sentry. All very fast locks!!
THANKS!
I've noticed a significant increase in GPS performance.
I know that gc has the new PRI, but does froader? Wonder if that has much effect compared to the radio itself.
I'll third that, GPS reception seems much better/quicker so far on 3.42.30 compared to 3.42.02.
kockroach, I'm on the 2.03_003 PRI version.
edit:
oh yeah, where are my manners? Thanks for the release GC!!
Oh for the love of..... I literally JUST finished reloading from scratch so I could get the 3.42.02 on my VZW xv6800. I don't have an SD card (whats wrong with me?) so I had to do the Sprint ROM and then lay DCD 3.2.0 over it.
I came to ask if others had GPS problems with 3.42.02 because GPS in the DCD 3.2.0 & 3.35 radio was working ok.... then I see this thread.
Damn you, gc14, damn you.
So is the SD card still the only way to do the radio without borking the whole thing? I should just go grab one tomorrow, I have no excuse for now having one.

Installing this now, thanks GC!
What do you expect to find in the installer when/if Slorizon Wireless updates the Titan? aGPS, drivers, etc?
i like it.
i cant tell if this thing working well is making me happy or the fact that i flashed with a microsd, which i have never been able to do before.
either way, gps seemed to work well from my apt window, will test again tomorow and report back.
cautiously optimistic.
thanks gc
Thanks the mirror worked.

you throw it in your PC and format as FAT32?
other than that i dont have any suggestions.. maybe its just TOO small a card. during the flash, maybe it needs to write back to the card for cache or something.. after format, that card is prolly only 13.9 or so, and this radio image is over 11.. might just not be enough room!

576mb roms vs normal custom roms

Hey guys
I am wondering in plain english what difference there is? obviously in my eyes the more memory the more responsive,
but im not just talking about speed, are there differences in stability?
Also what rom would you advise that uses the 576mb hack?
Regards
I may be talking out of turn...
Just spent last few days trying different combos of roms...
whilst the customised 576mb roms have latest and greatest features, here in the UK on Vodafone Network, having to use any 2.xx.50.xx radio leaves me with awful call quality...
Love the ROMS and their features, but not at the cost of a useable telephone.
My advice is unless your device is a native 576mb, it really isnt worth the drop in useability as a telephone.
I have been through all the .50. radios, i've tried the wavedev.dll fix... all make slightest of differences...
Back on a .51. radio... the difference is undeniably obvious...
Just my two cents... thanks for letting me get that out
strange im using one of the .50 radios now, and my call quality is fine, i mean compared to the stock i dont notice a massive massive amount of call quality difference, noticable but not too much.
im currently just reading through all the different roms to see which would suite my needs, i need stability, i cant be doing with reboots all the time, but then i love the looks of some of the custom roms
hmmm decisions!
just try some custom roms... u will find one that suites best... bet u will get flash addict!

Already am, with my old HTC Desire i must have changed roms 3 times a week, well until i found a rom i loved anyway.
Quick question (for some reason when i use the search funtion on my works laptop it fails miserably and times out)
Is there anyway to install a custom rom from the SD Card?
Ive not had a problem using a .50 radio in the uk..... I think they just dont like vodaphone, Ive seen a few people complaining about it....
If anything my signal is better than before.....

copy the nbh file to sd card and rename it leoimg.nbh
go into bootloader and it should find teh image and flash it. If it doesnt, then try formatting teh card to fat32, and if it STILl doesnt find it, chances are you have a 8gb or 16gb card, which can be hit and miss.
as for searching, rather than teh built in search function, which is mediocre at best, bookmark and use THIS google advanced search page, and start your search with
+hd2 +leo yoursearchhere
so example
+hd2 +leo how to hspl

Many thanks for the info pal, much appreciated, i have a sneeky suspision that work has for some reason blocked search engines as Bing is now also not working, may just be an issue down at our london office, right im off to try duttys rom, it looks pretty darn good!
You guys may well be right about vodafone.. and .50. roms with 576Mb, if it is any help to another vodafone user to avoid the trawling and testing of roms i have done...
I don't remember having issues with call quality and .50 radios before the 576Mb versions came out.
In my tests with Energy and CleanX Ultimate ROMS 2.10.50.19_2 was the one with least static and hiss, still very poor call quality tho.
If anyone manages to get sensible call quality on .50. radio with a 576Mb ROM on a EU spec phone and vodafone let me know, as i was really enjoying Energy latest ROM.. was why i spent so long testing out the .50. Radios.
Cheers
I've been using the latest max sense energy rom with the 2.12.50.02_2 radio on my UK vodafone. I've had no problems what so ever and the call quality is excellent. It may be an area thing by the sounds of things.
I was wrong!
I was wrong
Listening to what has been written above, i installed radio rom 2.12.50. and still had terrible call quality....
so, tried my PAYG O2 sim (uses same frequencies as Vodafone) and made a call with no crackles or hiss at all!!! With no change in radio or rom, vast improvement... noted that was on 2G signal at that point...
Changed back to vodafone sim, switched to GSM only mode and as if by magic the signal was miraculously better..
At least i am one step closer to nailing the vodafone hiss/crackle between talking... something to do with how the HD2 handles 3G based calls...
I am determined to locate and sort this feature of my HD2....
Wish me luck.

Fm radio on frx04?

Arrgh didn't know anything about a radio so i think only the rhod100 phones have that. I tried FM TwoO from the market but it didn't find the hardware for the fm radio. So i don't thing it's working, because the hardware isn't addressed for android.
Hrm. I'll look up some specs, I'm pretty sure my RHOD400 doesn't have an FM radio.
If it is doable, this would be very low priority... as in, if the devs are bored with nothing else to do, this might get addressed. However, I'm not aware of any dev with a RHOD100.
If anyone does know definitively which RHOD's have FM radios that would help... thanks!

Yeah my 210 has radio too. I presumed all rhods did, but maybe not. I do hear that it didn't come unlocked in the stock build or something . . . . .but within a week of buying my rhodium I had a custom rom with fm radio app installed on it.Only works well with htc headfones though, as antenna (and mine are fairly rubbish) so id say for most bluetooth/camera would be of higher priority to get working right
Same status on Blackstone. Need kernel support.
Anyway, if CDMA and GSM Rhod's use the same wireless chipset all of them have fm radio, like the nexus one. At least, if I understood something of all my readings

Uh, they don't use the same wireless chipset. They can't as they aren't all GSM
If I understand it correctly, both Sprint's and Verizon's TP2 are actually world phones meaning they have both CDMA and GSM. I suspect the CDMA world versions lack a functioning FM radio because of this extra radio.
I think it's similar to why the Epic 4G is so radically different than the rest of the Galaxy S phones as only Sprint needs WiMAX.
I the Herman/Raphael (Touch Pro) had a similar issue regarding the FM Radio being only enabled on the GSM version and not on the CDMA version. I had a Sprint Touch Pro and there was significant uproar that the FM Radio was not physically enabled on it where it was on the GSM version. Something about it being literally crippled on the hardware end to disable it.

[Q] FM radio on flyer possible?

Hello
Can someone tell me if it's possible to have an FM radio like on the HTC smartphones?
I have a Sensation and a Desire HD and on both phones there is an FM radio.
I'm not familiar with the hardware of my devices but it would be nice to have it also on the HTC Flyer.
I hope that somehow we can activate that possibility if it's hardware supported.
Thx guys (and dolls)

There is no FM radio in the hardware.
But you can use radio over the internet, there are some goed Apps.
Kind of off topic... but I have often wondered why radio's are more common in phones than in tablets... i mean a tablet prob wouldnt require the headphones plugged in ... as the device itself should be able to house a large enough antana to pick up FM
Kris
Bluetooth is FM radio, so if it has Bluetooth, it has FM radio. Now whether that is enough "hardware" to receive FM radio stations, or something more is needed, I don't know.
I think that this is a great idea 4 use in the tablets...
Now that people forget the radio, use it since new gadgets, And uf smartphones can why not the tablets...

I'm a bit on the fence with an FM app, I probably wouldn't use it much (if at all). Don't get good radio reception at work and that would really be the only place I'd use it.
But I'll throw my vote in for it...
After some searching in other device forums on XDA, two things would be necessary for the FM radio app to function in the most basic of senses (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not too well versed on the android backend).
1) There would either need to be a standalone FM chipset, or the existing BT chipset would need to be one that is capable of receiving OTA FM radio frequencies.
This appears to be the BT chip: http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/cracking-open-the-htc-flyer/6256123?seq=70
8903GE TI107 BTEM
2) The FM radio app requires kernel support to be added.
Apparently it is not an easy task to add it to devices where it was not pre-installed.
This thread has an HTC FM Radio APK attached... maybe if anyone gets really bored?
I dunno... It kills me you MUST have headphones in to start it because that's where the antenna. Couple that with crappy signal and that you can get stations outside of your area on internet streaming I have to say I don't miss it other than for say... Lovelines. (My area got rid of local internet stream for it). :/
I'm not rooted yet, so if somone could try to install the htcradio app i would really appreciate it.
In belgium we have expensive mobile data plans...so I preferr the fm radio while reading the newspaper on the train
