Memory issue @ Orange Himalaya - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- I need some answers, and I think I will find them here. 8) --
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I've got mine M1000 a few weeks back, and last weekend I installed Windows Mobile 2005 (WM5 1.60c) on it. Since I installed it I've got some trouble with my memory allocation.
When I put WM2003SE on it, i've got 128mb of memory on wich I can install and run my programs. Since I installed WM5, my memory has been split up like this:
STORAGE = 14,54MB
PROGRAM = 120,35MB
-----
Ext ROM = 15,97MB
So far so good I think..?? (I hope :?: )
So when I install some programs I've got the following problem: All my installations are ending up in the storage erea, wich is small and gets full in no-time. I can't seem to figure out how to move or to put them in the Program-part of the memory. I can''t choose between them or something. ( I can choose between Device and Ext_ROM)
:?: :?: :?: So why are my programs get installed in the storage memory insted of my programs memory. :?: :?: :?:
:?: :?: :?: I'm not allowed to delete or write something to or from the extended rom memory. :?: :?: :?:
--------------------------------
I've tried this too:
I installed a wm5-rom wich only allocated the follwing memory:
STORAGE = 14,54MB
PROGRAM = 24,35MB !!!!
-----
Ext ROM = 15,97MB
And I installed a RAMdisk of 96MB.
In this case; when I installing some softeare, I can choose between Device, Ext_ROM and RAMdisk) but nomatter what I choose, it still ends up in the storage erea... WHY WHY WHY :?: :shock: :?:
So I really hope to get some answers here...
Thanks anyway...

EWALLET

Has anybody managed to install ewallet on their xda, I get a message like "program not installed, win ce 3 or later needed". :?: :?: :?:
eWallet
I installed eWallet 3.10 on my XDA having PPC2002 and now WM2003.
No problems at all.
It would be helpful to know, what kind of hardware and software you're using.

Thanks for that, it seems there are several flavours of ewallet, problem sorted once I got the right one.

Extended_ROM read-only on Qtek 2020. Why?

I have recently bought a Qtek 2020 and I have applied the registry hack to make visible the Extended_ROM area.
Now I would like to edit which CABs the system install after an hard reset but, to my surprise :shock:, the area appears as read-only (error code 19).
Do have I to make other registry modifications to make the Extended_ROM writable? I am using ROM 1.03.00 USA.
TIA
ROM == Read only memory
you can write or delete rom
but in many cases you can flash it
if you make your own cooked ROM and
update the ppc2003 os of your xda2
Please, study the stuff you don't know before posting obvious things!

but the config.txt is not in rom
so you are not chaning or writing in the rom
you are just chaning which files in the rom
the system access
just got confused about the way you asked the question
RAM/ROM?
Hi I would like to know, is your Qtek 2020 has 128M and 64ROM :?: ??
How much did you buy it and where? :roll:
Best regards,
Paf
Hi, Yes to both questions . You can buy it at :http://www.mobilkompagniet.dk/default.asp?Action=Details&Item=1820

What the hell are you saying??? Config.txt is on Extended_ROM like Autorun.exe and various CABs.
I suggest you to read again the article I have linked (http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1642) and leave space for replies to people that really own and know the Qtek 2020.

I didn't have a config.txt in MY rom.
Luckily another user (props to him) figured out that if you prefix the names of your cab files with Default_ (default underscore) and make a config.txt they will autoload on hard reset.

You miss the key point of my message: Extended_ROM is read-only in the Qtek 2020. Stop. No way to add any prefix, "Default_" or whatever you want.
Any Qtek 2020 owner out ther that could confirm this? Any XDA-Developers team guy that _know_ how storage disk are mounted by Windows CE and could suggest a (registry?) trick?
Thanks, byez
he is right with saying:
I do have the same issue:
"You miss the key point of my message: Extended_ROM is read-only in the Qtek 2020. Stop. No way to add any prefix, "Default_" or whatever you want. "
same here. read only can't delete or add anything.
alex
It seems my XDA2 has this problem too (but some other XDA2 don't have this problem
I have an O2 XDAII and cannot modify anything in Extended_Rom too
HI,
Anyone that have fix same workaround for this problem?
I have Qtek 2020 . I´m unabel to make changes in the Extended_Rom

Gread !!! I did a hard reset, It work !! But some application show disorderly code, i check it all version, it show (1.66.00wwe,1.08.00,1.66.174,bootloader v1.06), So I think this way update CE rom only n ExtRom(Chinese ver.) did not change.
Any body can help me how to update the Extention Rom only?
Meny thx Gibbo n cairo31male n all !

To update the extended ROM the EASY way:
1. Just copy all the contents of your working XDA's Extended ROM to your PC via ActiveSync or to an SD card,
2. Delete all the files in the Extended ROM of the device you which to upgrade,
3. Put the files you copied in step 1 in the empty Extended ROM.
4. Hard Reset.
That's it. You will have the desired Extended ROM, and you will notice that the version will have changed.
In case you do not know how to access Extended ROM through ActiveSync or File Explorer, have a look at the following post and download the ExtendedROMUnlocker.arm.CAB:

Windows Mobile 2005 for XDAII and 2.20.07

is there any good version of WM 2005? i mean it will not only detect 30MB ram but 125MB ram....... can give me the link? what is the difference between the WM 2003se 2.20.00 and 2.20.07??
Ive said this before, please read it..
WM2005 doesnt detect 30 or 32meg ram, it detects all 128meg of it. It just doesnt use it. at all. Not a bit. Nothing. Nadda.
The missing ram is not a bug, its not a problem its a DESIGN FEATURE of wm2005.
WM2005 uses ENTIRELY FLASH. this is to prevent data loss in the event of battery failure. New wm2005 devices will have much larger flash storage so this isnt going to be a problem.
The fact that the memory program shows the flash being used for running program memory as well as storage says that wm2005 DOES NOT use ram for programs at all. I expect ms will drop ram from the future spec for devices in order to lower chip count and simplify designs.
The 32meg OS memory holds the windows ROM, its write protected. no way to edit it live.
the 32meg DiskOnChip holds the Storage and Extrom, these are partitione d in some way to 2 roughly 16meg sections.
WM uses the storage partition for storage, Duh. It maps it over the windows directory and all file changes and additions are put in there.
the ExtRom directory is used for running program memory. It kills the extrom.
Remember that due to the way MS cant count, differences in the way they measure Bytes, kilibytes etc (1000 or 1024 people?) and filesystem overhead the numbers wont add up exactly at the end. But trust me, unless anyone can PROVE me wrong, this is what happens.
It may be possible to make use of the ram as a storage disk, but a custom ramdisk program would have to be written.
??
oh ya hw about WM 2003 SE version 2.20.07? is it translated version? is the fonts like very rough?? the WM 2005 safe to use?
