XDA I - please help the intellectually challenged. - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi
My stupidity is proven by the fact that I just can't figure out how to remove the back of my O2 XDA I in order to install the new battery that has just arrived , the old one having passed its best. I am sorry to clog this excellent board with such a tyro question but, come on, we've all got to start somewhere!
I've got the four screws out but...then what? Any help you can offer would be really gratefully received and you will know that you have expanded the pool of human knowledge.
Best wishes
Jem

Remove the SD card and the SIM, and start opening it from left side (if XDA facing you), all the way having the back of the case in one hand, and the rest of the PDA in other. Be careful with the Infra latch as it tends to fall out and get lost. You will find the battery in the back of the case.
Gook luck,
Nabil.

Nabil
Many thanks for your reply. I'll give it a go!
Best wishes
Jem

Nabil
All sorted now. Many thanks for your time and expertise. I am wiser now - I hope.

hi,
does anyone has "caller2picture" ?
I have the trial version and I want to buy the full one, but on "pocket gear" I've seen a post of a user that bought the full version but he's still unable to assign more then 3 pictures.
Can I thrust them and buy the software or do I have to forget it ?
Thanx

Oh, please, give me a break... We're doing our best to create a fun experience for everyone. And besides, what hidden about the policy of removing warez trading?

This is not acceptable at all.... Xchange man those ppl are receiving us as their guests and why pay them back by insulting them??? 2 days ago this site or this forum has reached its 500 user and all of them are considering themselves as one family sharing and learning and teaching. Please reconsider your attitude as we all are here friends and one happy XDA, o2, QTEK, SX56 (forgot any?) Family...
Thanks for the ppl behind this site thanks for the members in this great forum God bless us all.

I have to agree with XDA developer Peter Poelman
come on xcahnge - $14 is not a lot for software... that is damned useful...
and entertaining, and intuitive. Instead of moaning why not just develop your own version of the software and distribute it as freeware?
I mean if it cost several hundred pounds and you used it three times you'd have cause to grumble.
Dont forget that programmers have mouths to feed - and being a software developer is as worthy a job as a train driver or electrician.
(Apart from Solicitors & Estate Agents)
I am none of these by the way, but I know plenty of programmers!
Dont forget that we need people like this to develop apps for our phones to make them "far more functional" than our friends nokias, or motorolas are.
Hold on a minute you dont like paying 14 dollars, but you have several hundred dollars worth of mobile phone!!!!
Just try it out. add three pics for your best friends and if you like it then just BUY NOW!

haha,
no thanks, I already got the serial no... caller2phone. I guess our opinion are different.
xda site
hi all
this is a great site and i normally log in daily i used to have a nokia communicator but the xda is a lot more usefull and the only real website for the xda is my-symbian.com and that started a bit like this site but turned very quickly into a forum for selling software and not really intrested in the people or the product it would be s ahame for this to happen here there is loads of free software out there try downloading bear share and you will get loads of games. anyway keep up the good work on the website.
regards kevin beecher
So... what about sharing the serial!!!!
caller2picture is pants..
I only wanted to be able to select different ringtones... caller2picture adds its bloatware crap and removes another useful feature <sending an sms from the contacts> (or has nobody noticed?)
nobody has made a program with a little box that lets you do the same thing?
hmmmm

It is useless, because it is generated depending on number on your Register screen. And that one is probably calculated from your name/or other unique parameters of you xda.
Hi!
Anyone got similar problem. The pictures aren't showing themselves regularly and consistently. They pop up many times less than they don't. Suggest anything, guys? :?
What is frustrating is I bought the full version, but it will not work with WM2003PE.

The program does work with my ppc2003. Anyway, you have to remove your sd card before the installation since the system will automatically install the software to sd card even you choose to install on the default location. The Picture2Caller does have some bugs when installed to ppc 2003. That is the software fails to work with all contacts. Anyway, if you feel ok with this, go ahead. Cheers
I want to agree with Arzeb,
This is an AWESOME site, complete with smart helpful people. Please keep up the excellent stuff that gets done here.
xchange: please chill.
THANX to the rest of you.
Hal.
Tried installing it again withot the SD card, still does not work. What happens is, it does not retrieve the contact's name, and phone numbers.

You're great! (And small plea regarding subject lines)

You're all still great. I get a tremendous kick out of watching you all help eachother now that I've stepped back a little from spending 2 hours a day answering every second post. The fact that people still get timely and factual answers means this community really works.
A small plea to everyone:
This is a very busy board. So please try to make sure you use subject lines that describe the content. It means you should try not to use "I need help. Help me please!!!???!!!", if you can also use "Stuck trying to downgrade 4.00.10 to 3.17.03".
To make sure this board stays usable, I will be somewhat more actively renaming posts that have 'bad' subject lines, and I may be inserting small comments in square brackets here and there to indicate what I've changed, if that's OK with y'all.
no problem at all boss!!!
not wishing any disrespect Peter Poelman .. The work you guys do is amazing - I'm running SER 1.2 happily, the site is great and the level of expertise between your users is unparalleled.
However I have noticed that people with valid questions are being totally ignored sometimes (myself included) so it can feel like a bit of a "closed club" to us newbies sometimes.
I'm sure it's probably because we don't specify our subjects quite right, but I have tried to be polite, helpful and specific to no avail so I'm not quite sure what to do to get anyones attention ?
Or maybe I'm just dumb...............

Nah...
I personally do my best to answer as much as I can, and I see some others doing the same. However I do have other things, and if I really have no idea what someone's problem is, or if I feel the simplest search will answer the question, I may let it slip by occasionaly. Sorry if that's what happened to you...
thanks - it's not your fault at all, you're doing a grand job - I guess it's more of a community thing really - and as you say it is busy here, so it's down to everyone to have a go !
Now that I've got your attention though... Why does this forum look so rough in Internet Explorer on SER 1.2 - the layout on the XDA is all over the place - am I missing something, other sites look alright ? I've been searching for ages - honest !
Oh and lastly - I have to know - why Peter Poelman ? It conjures up images of loads of kraftwerk-like automatons slaving over circuit boards with terminator type music playing ...
The site looks fine to me, well organised, well presented, front page gives all the latest additions etc, maybe you could redesign it for the guys who are busy hacking and cracking and present it to them as a thank you for all their hard (unpaid) work on our behalf.

I tried redesigning some of the templates, or even creating a whole new one, but for some reason it didn't work. I'll get back to that as soon as I have some time. (haha)

The rules of the collective say we can't talk about these things. I'll probably get in trouble, but I'll lift the shroud of secrecy just a little: we're half-human, half-machine, and Peter Poelman is actually my production serial number. We spend exactly half our time in large underground laboratories statisfying the machine parts of us by doing crazy-ass technical research, and then we go and spend the other half of our time statisfying our human halves with an abundance of sex, drugs and rock 'n roll.
nice one ...... and no worries, in your own time !!
besides - the connection speed with O2 is so slow there's no point trying to use this forum on my XDA, I just wait 'til I get home ...

Advice re repair please

Hi there,
I posted the following message in the "Accessories" section about a week ago, but have had no replies. Perhaps more people look in this more general section, at least I hope so. In the meantime I have tried a couple more "pc repair" shops but without success. I appreciate that people who visit this site and offer their advice, do so on an entirely voluntary basis. It's great that so many of you have such an interest in the product/subject and that you are willing to share your experiences and knowledge with us. Even if no one can help with my problem, I must say that I have enjoyed reading the forum, and until this unfortunate accident I was starting to really enjoy using my XDA. I had upgraded the ROM, unlocked a SIM card, installed stacks of software, it was great. Ah well, maybe I will just have the memories!
"I recently dropped my xda and it would no longer power on, it seemed completely dead. Assuming it was a "connection" problem with the power to battery pins, I opened it up to see if I could see any obvious problem. During my poking and messing about (with tools which were not really suitable) I inadvertently damaged the small ribbon cables on the right hand side .
I took the unit to a laptop repair specialist but he was unable to fix it, he said he could not find replacement cables/plugs that would fit. Do you know of where I could obtain such cables, or can you recommend someone who would be capable of carrying out repairs?
I would really appreciate your advice, I'm lost without use of the xda. Yes, I did regular backups to the storage card, the last one being only a day or two before the accident.
I look forward to hearing from someone, hopefully with some positive news!
Many thanks,
Mikeyg "

Problem with XDA after Rom Upgrade!

Hiya all, What an amazing job this lot do.! O2 have to be the most unhelpful company on the planet. (They even hide their Rom updates on their webpage so you have to be a detective to find the link!)
I upgraded my rom the other day (Thanks to Yorch's Kitchen) to PPC2003. Everything was fine for a couple of days and then my XDA started doing strange things and soft reseting itself at random! Anyone else had this problem? I did use the XDA Developers rom prior to that and unlocked the phone. After my "Crash" I bottled it and went back to the original O2 Rom. Does that mean my XDA is now locked again? I know I'm being lazy and could just take out my sim and stick another in; but figured as you lot are such a friendly bunch someone might save me the hassle of doing it!
I'm busy saving for an XDA2 and hopefully will get one before too long. Anyone know the cheapest place to get hold of one? I notice that O2 are the only company out there that dont actually discount the XDA2 if you have a more expensive tarrif! Why did O2 have to be the company behind such a fine piece of equipment????
Oh yeah, I have just had a problem with a 256mb SD card corrupting. Once I reformatted it it says that its only 238mb. Am I just being stupid or has something gone terribly wrong. Anyone with any info/clues please let me know!
Hope to hear from someone soon.
Keep up the good work all you developers, without you we would all be stuck.!!!!!!!!!
No your XDA will remain unlocked.

How are you rooted? Just nook&zergy rooted or running CWM and a different rom? If just the nook&zergy, do the 8 failed boot method (while unit is powering on hold power until it shuts off...repeat 8 times and it will auto factory restore. If you have working CWM recovery, you can flash a stock rom and be done with it.
Ooo
that's i was meaning
...
too difficult for me now...
i used the sd card method from albertwerz
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1439630
thanks for yr help
Put the acclaim.zip on your sdcard and boot. (or go to B&N.com and download one of their stock roms and do the same. After the unit goes into sleep mode it will update. Your easiest way will be the 8 failed boots method methinks.
1 question though, why unroot? If you are using a stock rom that is just rooted, what's the point of removing that access? It's the same rom, only with SU access and market abilities. /shrug, to each their own I guess.
Know Fear because i made a big mistake:
i rooted as soon as i got the tablet, and i didn't took time to explore and understand how it worked, am totally new to android
i thought i could do it... but i'm finding it quite hard...
and i'm going to the states next week and hope to bring the tablet back to store to have the update to fix the available space...
maybe in the future i will have the needing of rooting it again.
what's this 8 failed boots method?
is it the stock rom from B&N???
Get Version 1.4.2 Today
To get the update manually, you can download the software update to your computer at any time and then copy it onto your NOOK Tablet. Simply follow the steps below. Manual Download Instructions:
Yes, that is what you will need. put it on an sdcard, and let the tablet go into sleep mode. It should update by itself.
i've done as told but nothing happened...
flash my recovery rom, flash stock recovery, and run unrooter app. Back to stock! See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495869
you can do this from any state through cwm, even from CM7, instructions are in the video

Ahh, I didn't think they had actually replaced the stock recovery. I assumed CWM was running from sdcard from your version. My mistake. Thanks for clearing that up Albert.

Seriously?? Please, don't ever do anything else with rooting until you learn to read. Research will get you much further than asking the same questions over and over...when the answer is 1 post up.
i'm really sorry
i didn't remember i already wrote the same things,
and as soon as i posted it i realised it was double...
and i try to correct...
anyway i didn't do anything, just pressing power and home button, and the nook asked me if i wanted to factory restore...
thanks again
