can you go back From WM2005 to windows 2003 ? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

hi all newcomer here so be patient, have upgraded to wm 2005 but dont like can i go back to a windows 2003 rom that is not ORANGE bias :?:

Yes you can, but not not without any risk. When I went back to 2003SE, I had some problems with it. My PDA didn't work for almost a day before I find the solution. I am not sure that this is working for you, but it worked for me. I have done it with a new installed computer with only activesync 3.7 version on it.
Good luck

I upgraded from WinMobile 2003 to Windows Mobile 5 and found it nice but slow. I reversed the steps and went back to SIN's version of Windows 2003 SE available here on XDA-Developers. Frankly it is better than Mobile 5. Yes, there are the same landscape screen benefits, but man is it fast ... especially when you set Xscalar to FAST.
So instead of an expensive paperweight, I still have a beaut XDA with lots more speed and functionality. The SBP add-on for Windows Theme Generator works a treat ... so all around I am happy.

WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 Stability ?

Hi ALL
I been reading through all the post for the past week or so.. and contemplating upgrading to WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG on my 02 XDA .
I check out ROMkitchen and created my ROM but I deselected all additional software I Just wanted the bare bone WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG. I have not installed it yet. (BIG THANKS TO XDA-developers )
some users posted that they had good and bad experience with WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 . The reason why i created this topic is to collate disadvantage and advantage using WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG (due to not final version if I'm correct).
I check here and the Enhancements are damn good which should of been support by PPC 2002 Phone Edition .
a) Can user posted disadvantage and advantage using WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG i.e. annoying bugs http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1945
b) What's your personnel percentage based on WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 ENG? i.e. User ability
c) Will you port back to PPC 2002 ? i.e. WM 2003 ROM 4.00.05 Stability dose not meet my needs
Share your thoughts and experience please if possible
Well to be honest with you so far the device and the WM2003 are very stable together.
I am using QTEK 32MB with ROM 4.00.05 and i can assure you that the speed is even better and the performance is great.
Now that doesnt mean its bug free there are still some small problems here and there as any normal ROM.
My advice upgrade it... and then you will see that you will like it allot you wont downgrade.
By the way "Test Not for Sale" screen when reseting the device is great lol 8)
Frankly, my experience with my 02 hasn't been all that stellar. i do get some slowdowns, but i don't think i can go back to SER1.2's smsing... smsing in the new os is spectacular, well worth the other drawbacks.
my 2 cents
I've got 4.00.05 installed. After a soft reset, a white square box with a grey rectangle over it comes up on the screen- looks like some sort of dialog is trying to come up but isn't all there. There's also a (x) in the top corner. Clicking that brings back the today screen.
Has anyone else noticed this? It happened also when I was using the 4.00.01 ROM.

This is the SIM Toolkit. If you can still boot, simply remove the stk.lnk file from \Windows\Startup. Otherwise create a new ROM in the kitchen: I added the option to not include that link earlier today.
Sweet. Just took out the stk link.
So far this ROM seems pretty stable. I'm still having some issues with the SD card though.
It seems if I remove the card and add files with my card reader, then put it back in the phone, it's not seeing the changes.
4.00.05 vs 4.00.01
I have a fairly vanilla ROMKitchen 4.00.05.
The SIM toolkit is annoying (empty dialog) that pops up after a soft reset.
4.00.01 was very stable for me. If anything 4.00.05 appears a little less stable on GRPS. It keeps/makes the connection OK, but the network (TCP/IP side) seems to get confused until I power off the radio or reset sometimes.
I'm not going to bother going back to .01, but I won't bother updating any more devices to .05 if they already have .01.

Are you on T-mobile ? The whole GPRS network seems very unreliable since Saturday afternoon - I had problems in CO, then CA on Tuesday (though late morning was fine) and again today in CO. My machine ROM is unchanged in the last 10 days.

Confirmed: we see that too. Annoying. But fortunately the 'Answer' on the screen always works, otherwise 4.00.05 would be unusable.

EasyTweak does all sorts of PPC2002-related registry tweaks. You can't really expect it to be very useful on new OS versions. I've set it to 'PPC2002 only' in the kitchen.
Hi,
I tried the 4.00.01 and got many bugs ... (bad reception ...)
Yesterday I put the 4.00.05 and all seems going well. Good GSM reception and for the moment no problem.
Thx to Jeff and his kitchen

not really sure what you mean by that
if you mean if it's based on the whole new windows CE v5 then no it's
SE as in second edition
so it's just the second edition of wm2003 which is based on windows CE 4 or 3 i forget
To the Moderator...
It was suggested, after the last such post like this, for about the ten thousandth time, that it might be worthwhile making it STICKY, that win2003se is NOT OUT YET etc.
If this wasn't done, can I re-suggest it now Peter?
Before all going crazy... about WM2003SE for the QTK2020
Yes it exist,
No it is not avalaible...
And the worse still to come :
it require a valid licence and ACTIVATION...
Bad time is coming....
big brother is on the move ?

What do you people have against Nyditot Virtual Display?! I've been using it for years in my MDA - 640x480 landscape - just a little work with fonts and cleartype + undock keyboard and you basically have comfort of PC screen! You don't need any SE!
The main problem I have with it, is that has caused my i-mate to freeze more than once.
I'll wait for SE . . .
NEVER had a single problem with NVD! :?:
mda3 runs se, we might be lucky as hardware seems to be almost identical, apart from keyboard and wlan
nvd works fine on an xda1 but on an xda2 it totally mongs it up, works a lil then goes fubar...

2005 and IntelliDialer

Right guys,
I've been watching the work that Buzz and co. have been doing with awe. I think he/they are doing a grand job.
The only thing stopping me from installing 2005 is the lack of IntelliDialer.
This is the main thing that I upgraded from 2003 to 2003SE for - landscape mode I can sorta live without most of the time - but not IntelliDialer.
Is there any way to get IntelliDialer working on 2005?
If so, please point me in the right direction and I'm gonna have that puppy running on my phone quicker than u can say Jazzy Jack Rabbit.
Cheers,
ND
Ok, so if there's no IntelliDialer replacement, could ppl let me know what they find to be the quickest and easiest way for dialing contacts on WM2005.
I use IntelliDialer exclusively so don't really wanna give up on it.
but still the wm5 "contacts" just like a 75% intellidialer...hmmm

Need help to upgrade my XDAII to WM2003SE

I really need someone to help to lead me how to upgrade my XDAII WM2003 to WM2003SE. Please show me where and how to do this. appreciated to show detail step by step set up.
Thread moved out of Upgrading, Modifying and Unlocking to here
there is so many forum that would help you to upgrade from wm2003 to wm2003se. anyway, i will try to help. i'm a newbie my self. i use XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS. it pretty much have everything on it. and it's stable. you have to download XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS from ftp://xda:[email protected]/GlobeSmartSun/XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe
and then.. put your xda on the bootloader mode by press and hold power button + navigational pad + softreset switch. a number like 1.03 or whatever will come up and put it on the cradle. and then run the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS.exe. after that you just wait till it finish and when it shows you finish then reset the xda and that's pretty much it. if you have a question feel free to ask. hope that helps
How stable are the wm2003se versions that are available?
I use the xdaII everyday as a business tool, I would really like to have 2003 se (mainly for the improoved bluetooth) but I wouldn't want it to crash when I need it!

i use the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS version and it's very stable. the bluetooth have two stack. use the one that's the most compatible. don't run them both because sometimes it crashes specially with tomtom 5. i use the microsoft bluetooth stack.
Why do you want to upgrade to WM2003SE if you can upgrade to WM2005?
xdaII upgrade to WM2003SE
I'm a first time user to the site and just followed the link from MDAIII and have now upgraded my machine. All seems to be working fine. So far I am impressed. Thanks I've been waiting a while to get this sorted.
I upgraded XDAII from wm2003 to wm2005 and in my opinion its not perfect yet. There is still some memory issues to be ironed out... I ''ll say gave it month or two.
I have now downgraded to 2003se and iam very impressed with it.
its very stable than my previous orange build (wm2003). I could serously see myself sticking with 2003se for some time to come.
I have also just bought an sd-wifi card from ebuyer for £19.00
so no upgrade of the unit till the 3G pocket-pc is released later this year or next.
never upgrade for the sake of upgrading.
thanks to xda2jojo and others  .
So which version of wm2003se are you using?
am using XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS combined zt on extended rom
seems stable to me. I got my wireless sd card today and that works perfectly too.
these are some of apps installed on my pocketpc
tomtom 5
mapopolis
worldmate
omega battary pro
agile messanger
mortplayer
betaplayer
adobe reader
mobipocket reader 5 beta

Hi I'm new here! (Pinoy XDA2 user)

hi guys! i'm benz and i'm from the philippines. i just recently bought a mint xda2..i was wondering if you could help me with some of the basics. i don't know where to start! (this forum is so full of info!) since i'm beginning to experiment with upgrades in OSes, can you guys fill out something for me? thanks!
1. i noticed there is a WM2003SE OS and a WM2005 OS for the xda2. i was wondering what are the differences of this OSes?
2. it's possible for WM2005 to go back to WM2003SE (or even the default xda2 O2)?
3. when it comes to stability, is the XdA2JoJo.v3.2zS version the best for my xda2?
4. I don't know about you guys, but my GSM signal for SUN seems to be reaaaaally lagged everytime. is this affected by the rom? (i'm using the latest O2 upgrade).
finally an OT question:
when converting a DivX movie to play for my xda2, how big will the file usually be?
some inputs to your questions...
1. i noticed there is a WM2003SE OS and a WM2005 OS for the xda2. i was wondering what are the differences of this OSes?
ans: one big difference from the original os to the 2003se is the ability to switch from portrait to landscape mode easily and without kinks. before this rom came out a bunch of chaps (including me) tried using software like jslandscape or nyditot for landscape mode. for the 2005, it takes the 2003se even further by adding a whole lot of enhancements. xda2jojo and buzz and toenailed did some very amazing work in bringing that rom to the xda2. and chances are they're still working on making it even better.
2. it's possible for WM2005 to go back to WM2003SE (or even the default xda2 O2)?
ans: downgrading from 2005 to 2003se is possible and has been done by myself and other people as well. for the original os, as long as you have a copy of that rom then it should be possible...though most chaps i know either stayed with se or 2005. btw, 2005 rocks!
finally an OT question:
when converting a DivX movie to play for my xda2, how big will the file usually be?
ans: i use divx; when i converted my dvd of spiderman2 for ppc use the resulting file was around 130mB. i think it depends on the movie length...to be safe you would probably need a 256mB card at the very least for one movie/dvd
cheers
thanks for your inputs! other differences in WM2003 from 2005?
how "buggy" is 2005 for the xda2 anyway?
