I have a Logitech Precision PC Gaming Headset http://www.computingondemand.com/reviews/audio-Logitech-PrecisionGamingPCHeadset/page1.shtml and it works great.
So would need an adapter like this to connect it to the Blue Angel -

I have the same setup. Both connections on the adapter are for headsets only
1 for headset
1 for stereo headset
I contacted them about this and they noted that there may be a need for this type of setup, but had no immediate intentions of changing the config.

Well..., I think I have to disagree with Raptor :shock:... I have both the PPCPADPT16 and the PPCPADPT15. The 2.5 side on the 16 does indeed enable the mic on a standard 2.5mm head set and the 3.5 mm side provides stereo sound, but no mic.
I use mine as part of a car kit for my xda IIs. I use the 3.5mm side to plug in a cassette adaptor and feed stereo MP3 sound and the phone through the car speakers. I plug in a regular 2.5mm hands free kit into the 2.5mm side of the adaptor and use that as the mic attached to the door pillar Works pretty well for all up cost of about $45
The 15 works by feeding the stereo sound into the car stereo via the cassette adaptor, while keeping the internal speaker of the XDA IIs enabled. In this way you can play the sound through the car stereo (or any stereo headset) while still being able to answer a call via the xda's mic and listen to the caller over the stereo speakers...

You need an adaptor that provides stereo sound and a mic in a single 2.5mm or 3.5mm connector....correct..? In which case neither of these do it in a single connector..

Does your 2.5mm hands free kit comes with its own speaker, too? When you plug the 2.5mm hands free kit into the 2.5mm side to use the mic, does the sound comes out of the 2.5mm hands free kit's speaker also? Or the 2.5mm side only connects the mic and no sound is routed through it?
If no sound is routed through the 2.5mm side then it sounds like the PPCPADPT16 is designed for one to use his own speaker (cassette adapter to car's speakers, etc...) and his own mic (hands free kit,etc... but then one wastes the hands free kit's speaker). Does any body know if there is a mic-only device that can plugs into the 2.5mm side? I couldn't find any, a device that has a mic always come with an earphone. arghh!!!
If there is sound routed through the 2.5mm side, then whenever one receives a call, sound will come from all over the place, louder sound from the car's speakers competing with the weaker sound from the hands free kit's speaker... It sounds distracting!!
I have a feeling the designer meant to add a mic to this adapter so that the 3.5mm side and the 2.5mm side can be used independently. The 3.5mm side for those who wants to use the car's speakers and the adapter's mic... The 2.5mm side for one who wants to use a hands free kit...

PPC Adaptors and hands Free Kit

The hands free "kit" I put together is actually an assembly of individual components I selected, rather than an actual kit.
I use a standard non powered, vent mount holder for the xda 2s and power the device via a standard car charger. The holder does not have any kind of speaker built in. I am currently using the PPCtechs "16" adaptor, with the 3.5mm side plugged into a cassette sound feeder (have also used it with an FM sound feeder as well) and the 2.5 mm side plugged into a standard 2.5mm mono hands free speaker/mic combo. I have the mic part of this attached to the drivers side door pillar. Then, I have MS Voice Command installed on the xda, with the "record" button on the xda mapped to the Voice Command software
So the way it works is as follows.
1. Get into car and place xda in vent mount holder. Attach car charger and PPCTech # 16 adaptor to xda.
2. Turn car radio / stereo on and insert casette sound feeder adaptor (you can use a FM Sound Feeder here instead and tune to the appropriate FM station)
3. Hit the xda "record" button and at the Voice Command prompt say "Play Don Henley" (It's the only CD I have on my SD card right now.. ) The music starts!
4. Then I decide I want to call someone, so, while the music is still playing, I hit the record button again and on the Voice Command prompt say "call Veronica at home". The music stops and the phone dials the number from the contact list.
5. The phone rings and I get her voice mail (she's never at home ) So I hang up and restart the music.
6. Then a call comes in, which interupts the music with the ring tone through the car speakers. I can see who is calling via the xda screen and hit the "call answer" button on the xda to answer the call. My car has volume up and down on the steering wheel, so that its pretty convienent to adjust the volume from there.
7. When the call is done, I hit the "call end" button on the xda and the music starts back up automatically.
It works pretty well. A couple of other things to address your questions.
a. I don't have a speaker built into the xda holder, so sound coming out there is not an issue for me.
b. The 2.5mm headset side does still have the speaker attached, but sound is not a problem as its so low.
c. I too have not found a (cheap) 2.5mm "mic only". I asked the PPC Tech folks if they had or could recommend one. They did not, but their solution was simple and inexpensive...."we find just cutting of the headphone part off the handsfree works well"!!
The other thing I use and love is PocketMax "PhoneAlarm" (www.pocketmax.net) As well as some great alarm functions, this app supports various profiles that control, amongst other things, the input and output sound on the PPC mic and speaker. So I set up the "car" profile with a mic sensitivity and audio output that matches the car stereo best. That way there are no big volume changes when switching from say the car radio to the MP3 music on the XDA (BTW, you can also listen to internet radion on the XDA this way too!)

Hi Black Night
The 3.5mm socket on the # 16 is for stereo headphones (no mic), while the 2.5 socket is for regular hands free kit with mono head phone plus mic. I agree with post above that a useful addition to the connector range would be a 3.5mm that was stereo and also included the mic. This would allow the use of the gaming headset mentioned above.
For now though you could use the # 15 adaptor. This is a 3.5mm stereo socket that accepts a 3.5mm stereo headset AND also keeps the mic on the device active. With this you can get stereo sound and still communicate wth the xda via its built in mic while the headphones are plugged in.

Does anyone know if one can use any 2.5mm earplug handsfree with the XDA Mini S? The one supplied is difficult to carry lots of wires, would like to have a monaural one. Has anyone tried any? Kindly let me know. Thanks.

I was also looking for a good headset fromt he beginning on, the issue might be solved if I can install the A2DP software (will try later), but a nice wired headset would still be nice.
My favorite would be the ones SonyEricsson is shipping with the music phones.
I actually tested a 2.5mm adapter with cord and speakerpice (with clip) plus adapter for 3,5mm, which would be perfect. One was for Nokia, one for Motorola - both are NOT compatible with the HTCs!
Lately I saw a shop selling the same adapter specifically for HTC devices, so the problem might be solved.
Also I saw 2 wired 2,5mm stereo headsets from Jabra on the US website, they are for sale there but NOT in Europe. If these would work, they would for sure be of very good quality.

I use it for headphones only (senheiser PX200 which sound great with the Wizard!), so not sure if they have mic connected or not. Sorry.
Get the adapter at radioshack.. there r tons n tons of them for $3.. i got one n it works like charm..

I have an adapter 2,5 to 3,5mm with GREAT sound quality, however without microphone in the adapter, thus I always need to unplug the adapter and take off the headphones to answer a call - sucks!

2.5 mm to 3.5 mm adapters at Radio Shack
Beware of the Radio Shack adapters. They stick out and are easy to catch on a doorway as you walk through it. I did so a few weeks ago and the headphone jack no longer worked. The adapter male end bent back and damaged the phone female socket. The result was very quiet sound from the headphone jack, totally unusable for phone or music.
I sent the phone back to T-Mobile and they very kindly sent me a replacement. I bought a new Radio Shack 2.5mm male to 3.5 mm female adapter and the same day proceeded to catch it on another doorway, bending back the male plug, and damaging the phone female headphone jack. No sound again from the headphone jack. I will stay away from the headphone adapters from now on.
Phone speaker not working after using headphones - No sound
I had a similar problem (not the same). After using a 2.5 to 3.5 mm adapter my phone speakers and the mic didn't work anymore. I was about to send the device in, when I read about a solution (I think it was in XDA-Dev somewhere).
You'll have to gently move the headphone jack forward and back, twisting it a litte or even better use some compressed air blowing into the jack. It works best, if you to take out the battery and blow from the back.
My speakers work again, but the same thing happens now and then. It seems there is some switch inside the headphone/mic jack, which doesn't go back. That only happens when I use the adapter.
I realize that this is an old thread, but here is an idea for you. As far as I know, pretty much any 2.5mm headset should work. I don't use it for my phone personally, but I recently purchased a Plantronics Gamecon X20 headset for my Xbox 360 after my old one broke. Since it has a plain 2.5mm jack on the end, I thought I would plug it into my phone to see how well it worked. The answer, pretty well apparently. My wife said that it was really clear and, likewise, she sounded really clear on my end. It's going to be a little larger than the ones that have the mic hanging down inline with the wire, but on the other hand, since it's a boom mic the sound quality should be superior with less noise. I haven't tried it for listening to music so I can't vouch for the quality there, but since you are wanting a monaural headset I rather doubt that is relevant anyways. The headset was only $20 at GameStop and they had a used one for $10.

In your case, I would say that sounds like a bad adapter. I routinely use one in mine and don't have that problem. It's one of those nasty stick adapters though, so you have to be careful with them. I've seen some cable type adapters for not too much so you might look into one of those instead.

HERE IS AN/THE ANSWER.
My WIZA200 and Sony P900 phone the mic headsets are compatable, even the answer button works. If you cant find what your looking for under the flavour WIZa or HTC etc... just look for what you need as a P900 type and you will be sorted.

See how they change their minds... first on 4 pole jacks answer call was on mic side short, then it goes on 3 pole jacks to short the speaker and ground to answer call... can these guys not make up their minds. Grrrr... totally baffling logic in this design, escept they can keep you buying specialised gear for each phone
Glad to see Sony and HTC used a more logical system and seem to stick to it. I suspect the HTC Touch HD 3.5mm is wired the same as the Wiza 2.5mm system just 3.5mm jack not 2.5mm jack.
Someone should make a 2.5mm 4pole to 3.5mm 4 pole converter to use old cherised headsets on the HTC Touch HD... know of any, anyone?

Another solution.....
I know this might sound odd but a simple solution is get your stereo headset & mic thing and cut the right earpiece lead off...
Now you may have to strip the wire a bit and wrap a piece of insulating tape to stop the wires inside touching, which will cause problems (crackling or loss of audio on remaining speaker most likely). Once the wires are safely insulated away, youll have what you are seeking, a monaural one earpiece mic heaset... saves having to buy one that your finding hard to do.
Seems a shame to sacrifice a stereo headset down to mono, but if thats your poison, go for it.

Get out the soldering iron and make a frankenstien. I grafted a 3.5 female to my old nokia's pop port so I could hook it to my stereo (before I got a BT adapter) and to my amplified helmet speakers (that were sorced from a computer speaker set.) Before I lost the phone I was planning to add a 2.5 mono female socket for a lil clip-on mic I have. Point being, it's only 3 signals and a ground, should be able to come up with something.

Yeah having a go is definately worth it. I just utilised the pinouts.ru stuff and a bit of personal common sense knowledge of the wirings and managed to make myself a 3.5 touch hd 4 pole jack into a 3.5 3 pole jack which works ofr my aircraft. I can now fly and make calls through my pilots headset. It shows it can work. You arent dealing with any dangerous voltages... its all piddly "put it on your tongue and you wont get hurt" voltages... speakers and mics... all easy to work out. Worth having a go.

The TyTN seems fine after a month of use but the headset issue is blowing my mind. I want to listen to the music and talk on the phone with some quality headsets.
First the supplied headset is a non standard USB, you cannot use your own headphones or connect to speaker inputs. Bluetooth stereo headsets are available but I believe that they are still too bulky and the technology is not yet fully developed.
You can't charge the phone while using the headset. This is just dumb, Very dumb.
Needless to say the quality of the supplied headset is not good, it is not even recognized by the phone as headset when you connect it. If you connect it to your phone while the phone is non silent, the phone still rings and not just your headset.
I have no idea why HTC is doing this, the TyTN is a relatively large device and it doesnt make sense that there are no spaces for a 2.5mm plug where you can buy all kidns of aftermarket wired headsets for it. Even the high end headset makers SHURE make headsets with the 2.5mm...
Finally I've made a move. TyTN X Sony Crossover Custom Headphones.
I've used a solder to remove the original earbuds wire and soldered a pair of cut SONY MDR-EX71SL headphones on. They sound 100 times better than the stock ones. This will ease my frustrations for now. I was tempted to solder my MDR-EX90LP on but they are $100 a pair. Too much for now
Later on I will try to rework the stock mini USB headphone and make a 2.5mm connector for it so I can use all kinds of headphones(with mic) and connect to a speaker system as I want!
EDIT: It appears that the original mini USB headset has 6 wires, 4 should be for the headphones and the remaining 2 for the mic, I can simply cut up the wire right after the mini USB port and connect the 6 wires to a standard cell phone headset 2.5mm connector then I should be able to connect the TyTN to all kinds of headsets![/img]

I do like the way you built a set without a plug, cleaner..less cord and weight, but I know myself, I go through a pair of headphones about every 2 months on my mp3 player, Id hate to have to redo the soldering everytime, I expect with the headphones being such an issue for most peple that the market will be flodded in a month or so with headphones for the tytn, or atleast adapters, shoot, the one guy in the above url even offered to do it for free, as long as you bought the plug.

Does anyone know if the HTC P3350 W100 Wired Remote Control

will work with the Cingular 8525 (Hermes, TyTN)? This is sold in Europe and can be had in the US from Mobile Planet which seems to be the same as expansys.com.
On the European HTC site there is also a media fix that may apply to this accessory as well as the Y connector.

I just purchased the HTC RC W100 Remote from Mobile Planet. It connects to the phone's extUSB and provides a 3.5mm headset jack that carries the mic port out to the connector. It has a 36" cord so there is a lot of cord if you have a long headset cord.
The head has controls for fast forward, pause, +/- volume and you can answer/end calls, mute and put a call on/off hold. This assumes that you have a mic on your headset to talk into.
The http://www.Europe.HTC.Com site says it is for the TyTn II but it seems to work with both the 8525 and the Mogul . . . It is not on the USA site at all.
I use the Sure SE110s stereo headset (individual internal sub-woofer component) and added their MPA-C cable that has a mic in it (Thsi would work for any headset). I have not found any other solutions that wok this well.
The standard headset really has poor quality and is uncomfortable for my ears. Bluetooth is either a mono headset w/ mic or a stereo headset (no mic) and the battery life is unpredictable.
This way I can ride my bike and control my music while the Mogul stays in my camel-back and when a call comes I can actually answer it and then go back to listening.
Very cool setup.
So this doesn't solve the headphone problem? Can't I just buy this and a pair of headphones? I don't need handfree anyway

I do not know what headset problem you are referring to but this is definitely a solution if you want to listen to music with a good stereo headset. I just happen to like the Shure stuff because they eliminate some road and wind noise while I am riding my bike or skiing. Also the higher end ones actually have miniature tweeters and sub-woofers built in.
All you need is the W100 and any headset with a 3.5mm jack.
As it turns out, I just found out the unit has a built-in mic and that eliminates the need for a more expensive headset that has a mic. There was nothing in the manual that came with it that talked about the mic! So RTFB does not work!
It also comes with a small disc that has the driver in it. I tried to install it on my Mogul but it said that I had the latest driver . . .
As far as the 36" cord, my Shure headset comes in 2 pieces, the earphones are on a short cord so it is not too long. If you had a standard headset, it might get a little long.
The other side of the Shure headset has the connectors that go into the device(s). This way you can have several different connectors for different phones, MP3 players, etc. Blackberry's and Razor's have different jacks and most cell phones like the HTC 8125 (Cingular) use a 2.5 mm jack.
I have a 3 in 1 adaptor in my car, charging, outputting audio and inputting voice.
This setup worked fine on my Kaiser. With the HD I plug it in and get a "Headset not supported error message". The audio will also not output through the extusb, and will only come out the 3.5mm jack at the top I believe.
So what makes mine different to the below? I can only guess that the pinouts differ for some reason? Has anyone seen a pinout diagram for the HD that I can compare with the Kaiser?
Pinout will not help. HTC simply is not using the audio pins of the ExtUSB on HD.
Any (eBay) vendor you see claiming their ExtUSB-[fill in your audio device] is compatible with HD is not well informed. (or does not want to be well informed)

It was indeed eBay, ive just realised I didnt actually supply the link when I referred to "the below", so well done on filling in the gaps!
Thats a pain in the arse. So the 3.5mm jack at the top can accept incoming voice (from the mic), as well as output audio? In which case I can't see a way of making any kind of car kit work for the HD...

i use a normal audio jack out into my car stereo audio inputs, i get calls/audio/satnav instructions etc through the car speakers (obviously have the stereo on aux so dont get the radio at the same time
the inbuilt mic seems to be adequate for both calls and voice command
if not and you are ok at soldering tiny wires etc, then you could do what i did with my old charmer......
i took the wired headset, cracked open the mic/button press> attached a 1/4" audio socket to the headfone terminals on the PCB and a car mic (£3 if you shop around) to the mic PCB terminals. tucked all the wires away behind trim etc and had a custom built integrated hands free car kit (at the time i didnt have audio in on car stereo so adapted some el cheapo "ipod" speakers as well)
