I remember reading a lot of them about the XDAII and relative problems:
-getting GPS audio out of the car speakers

I also remeber that the best solution seemed to be a car holder with build in speaker... would it work with the 2K as well (without forcing the Pins...)
As far you now is iMate going to come out with an official creadle?

i am not bothering to wait for the cradle... if the cradle for the xda ii was any thing to go by it will take ages and will be rubbish.
i took things into my own hands and built my own drop in charger for the xda iis.
i was going to post some pictures but i cant from my xda iis as the picture upload is not pocket pc compliant... come on guys - sort out the upload...

I agree....when i bought the cradle for the XDA2 i was really amazed to see how stupid i was to pay so much for so litle. The worst carkit i've ever seen.....
Now that i have my new Qtek9090 i didn't bother to wait. I just bought an Arkon powered cradle and it is just fine. I'm waiting for the audio adapter for the 9090 but i tried it with my old qtek2020 and i was amazed to hear Tomtom navigational instructions....mp3...click click.....and so on....
I'm now expecting the new audio adapter (they finished production today and began shipping) and i tell you it will do just fine.
Which Audio adapter?

Arkon Cradle

The Arkon cradle (http://www.arkon.com/bluetoothgps.html) model CM745 is designed specifically for the Qtek 2020 and uses 2 connections to the PDA. The cradle has 2 USB connectors at the bottom, one to connecto to the 21pin connector to charge the PDA and another one for any accessory USB powered you may have. On the top of the cradle there is an audio line in wich connects to your PDAs headset jack to output the audio through the cradles internal speaker. The audio adapter is nothing less than a converter from the 3,5" cradle jack to the 2,5" PDA jack wich carries the sound to the cradle but doesn't deactivate the internal mic on the PDA.
Despite the simple concept design, i tried it with the Qtek 2020 and it works really well.
My waiting is due to the fact, i bought the Arkon cradle specific for the Qtek2020 because they told me it would fit the 9090 but they were preparing the new audio connector.
Note: You may have read somewhere posts about the 21pin connector beeing different from XDA2 to XDA3 but in fact (at least my Qtek9090) uses "apparently" the same conector. I don't need to force anything as some of the guys do...

Saw another thread and started Googling. The Arkon "designed" for the Blue Angel is the "Arkon CM750 MDA III 3 PDA mount with speaker and gps charger".

Finally there is a decent DSP carkit released by Carcomm (www.carcomm.nl) . I already have it here it only has to be build in in my car. It also comes with a mutebox that uses the left car stereo speaker to hear the sounds of callers and Tomtom. The partnumber CHFS-16. When it is build in i will make some pics.
Will these work with the 9090?

None of ur links opened for me. however I got this 2.5 to 3.5 converter for headphones and I use sony headsets the one u mentioned. there r two adapters on this site for pda2k/9090.

Thanks. I'm still a bit confused, which one do I need? Or if they both work, what's the functional difference.
I've only tried the headset that comes with it briefly, but it's not bad - and it's stereo.

I presume you got the $5.65 ones. I've also just found out that the M2000 and presumably all Blue Angels have reversed polarity and a standard adapter won't work, but someone named Dade says:
"If you plug in the adapter to the M2000 and pull it out slightly (About 2mm) then you start getting sound from both channels. The problem is that the plug keeps going back in and the sound returns to mono.
The solution is simple. Get a BIC biro and take the small ink tube out of it. Cut a piece of the clear tube about 2mm long and slide this over the 2.5mm plug. This stops the pug going in too far. (See my photo)
Im sure that this wont cause a problem with the handset but as per usual do this at your own risk."
I'll give that a try once I got the adapters.

Works like a charm!! Tested to work on Qtek 1010, 2020 and S100. minus the answer button and mic. of course. but no bic pen method needed. :lol: :lol:

Hmmm I can't say i want to "mutilate" my relatively expensive EX71 phones just to fit into my XDA 11s. I still need the phones for my Sony NW HD3 Mp3 player!!!
For a few ££ I've gone for the alternative fix which is getting the 4 conductor PPC (PPCPADPT15) 2.5mm jack to 3.5mm stereo headphone jack. Job done!

I was thinking of doing that. Did you solder them at the mic, in the earbuds, or inline?

i desoldered the origional headphones from the insides of the ear pieces,then carefully opened up my ex71's and soldered the wire ends directly to the 71's.
the 71's will come apart,just small amount of glue holding them together.but carefully does it.& make sure the phasing is correct,ie + to + & - to -.

Hi all,
I finally got bored and went one stage further. I desoldered the earphones from my original headset and wired an in line headphone socket (3.5mm) so that I can pug any headphones I like into the headset.
But best of all I can plug in my irock FM transmitter and use it to relay all the audio from satnav/mp3/movies ets to my car stereo and as the microphone is still on the cable I can use it for handsfree...Hooray!!!

I've just done this as well. First remove the rubber ear piece.
You need to open up the ear piece by sliding a knife around the edge of the rubbery stuff nearest the ear. This is the same bit that forms the cable shroud. With mine, there was glue for about 1/3rd of the rim.
Then you need to prise the metal speaker out of the plastic. I did this with a knife. Snip off the wires for the Sony leads. Thread the wire from the headset through the cable shroud. With my MDA Vario headset this cable has a woven outer sleeve. I wrapped that in a little sellotape to stop it from unwinding as I pushed it through.
Once the wire is passed through, tie a knot in it to give some shock protection. Trim the ends of the wire and spread the two ends apart. With the Sony earpiece wires one was green and the other was bare copper. The headset wires were red/green and green so I joined the green to the green and the red/green to the bare copper terminal. A small soldering iron will help.
I soldered a socket into the headphones supplied with the BA, but found it gave unequal sound.. one side was muffled. As such, i bought one of the ones listed above.. a lot less messsy too :-D

The TyTN seems fine after a month of use but the headset issue is blowing my mind. I want to listen to the music and talk on the phone with some quality headsets.
First the supplied headset is a non standard USB, you cannot use your own headphones or connect to speaker inputs. Bluetooth stereo headsets are available but I believe that they are still too bulky and the technology is not yet fully developed.
You can't charge the phone while using the headset. This is just dumb, Very dumb.
Needless to say the quality of the supplied headset is not good, it is not even recognized by the phone as headset when you connect it. If you connect it to your phone while the phone is non silent, the phone still rings and not just your headset.
I have no idea why HTC is doing this, the TyTN is a relatively large device and it doesnt make sense that there are no spaces for a 2.5mm plug where you can buy all kidns of aftermarket wired headsets for it. Even the high end headset makers SHURE make headsets with the 2.5mm...
Finally I've made a move. TyTN X Sony Crossover Custom Headphones.
I've used a solder to remove the original earbuds wire and soldered a pair of cut SONY MDR-EX71SL headphones on. They sound 100 times better than the stock ones. This will ease my frustrations for now. I was tempted to solder my MDR-EX90LP on but they are $100 a pair. Too much for now
Later on I will try to rework the stock mini USB headphone and make a 2.5mm connector for it so I can use all kinds of headphones(with mic) and connect to a speaker system as I want!
EDIT: It appears that the original mini USB headset has 6 wires, 4 should be for the headphones and the remaining 2 for the mic, I can simply cut up the wire right after the mini USB port and connect the 6 wires to a standard cell phone headset 2.5mm connector then I should be able to connect the TyTN to all kinds of headsets![/img]

I do like the way you built a set without a plug, cleaner..less cord and weight, but I know myself, I go through a pair of headphones about every 2 months on my mp3 player, Id hate to have to redo the soldering everytime, I expect with the headphones being such an issue for most peple that the market will be flodded in a month or so with headphones for the tytn, or atleast adapters, shoot, the one guy in the above url even offered to do it for free, as long as you bought the plug.
is there still no adaptor available to buy?

Looks very good, even more solid than the other solution, but how do you open the unit to reach the print, is their any trick?!
Can i also use the new connection as a line-out for little active stereo boxes, or is this to tricky for TyTn/boxes?

I was glad that i did it, because sound became much more louder, and more clean...

I'm looking for an adapter for my Cingular 8525 that allows me to plug in a plain ole 2.5mm headset that I've come to love.

Should I, perhaps, just bust open the crappy Cingular headset and do some soldering? Will the impedence for the microphone be the same? How should I combine the stereo that they have in the crappy headset to the mono that all 2.5mm jacks use?

workable, but not great
I used the same pinout to add a 3.5mm jack to the original headset end. The problem is the wires used in the cable are very difficult to solder. They are more like a metallized fabric than plain copper wire. And I am pretty good with fine wire soldering in general.
That said, I did get the jack on (though I'm not thrilled with the non-flowed solder joints) but the output level is pretty low. If I plug it into the input jack on my car stereo, the GSM phone noise (which I *hate*) overwhelms the wired signal every time I change towers.

I found one on ebay, it seems useful. I'm going to try that I think. It's cheaper and seems like more comfortable.
I picked up the 3 in 1 adapter, which lets me plug in headphones a car charger and still use my mic from my headset.
Sounds like useless adapter, however
I plug the stereo output of the adapter into the line input of my car stereo, the OEM headset mic gets clipped to my seatbelt and the car charger gets plugged in.
Turns my Tytn into a mobil office and car theater system. I get to hear the audio from calls going through the 6.1 speakers in my car as well as play all my MP3's and videos through the phone.
The adapter was only about 15 bucks IIRC.
