Know this isnt the place, - and sorry to post another hardware problem but I had a working Siemens SX56 on which I cracked the screen (screen worked, vertical lines appeared on pressing the case: Cracks seem to have been under the case at the edge). Everything else worked properly on installing the software. Could make, receive calls etc.
When my mechanic replaced the screen FIRSTLY the ear piece and mic didn't work. (it only worked on the external earpiece/mic plug) Then when he did manage to get that working (I THINK he did), the screen started responding to the wrong commands. So when you pressed the lower right corner which brought up the menu, pressing PHONE highlighted some command five places above it on the menu. And didnt seem to do much. Then he SAID he had found the problem and that it was working properly but only on the external earpiece/mic plug as it had done previously. Needless to say no amount of pressing the reset hole works.
Does anyone recognise these symptoms please? Is this a hardware problem or has the ROM somehow been corrupted?
Why does no one respond to hardware problems?
I have tried putting out hardware requests on this forum for some time now and have reposted this request in slightly different form as my repairer did manage to get the screeen to respond to the correct commands
But someone has done a huge amount of research at (for example) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WallabyJTAG
Does anyone know who this was and is no one now able to respond to hardware problems?
Is this the much complained-about HTC reluctance to respond to technical enquiries being spread to sites like this which have nothing to do with HTC???

I have a T-Mobile Pocket Phone Edition,
It's had a rough life but as kept going for over 3 years now.
For the last year I would have to realign the screen 2 or 3
times a week but over the last few months it keeps getting worse.
Sometimes the screen won't respond to anything anywhere,
then after I tap it a few times boom works fine.
Sometimes I'll tap on the “Ok” and the “Start menu” will activate.
Sometimes drawing a line up the center of the screen will end up
shooting all over the screen.
And sometime it will work perfectly!
I thought the problems were to erratic to be hardware so
I hard set after awhile it started again,
So I hard set and installed a different ROM after a coupe hours
the problem was back.
Also sometimes the align program will get stuck in a
loop that doesn't end.
I've searched but can't find an answer? Anyone have an idea?
I've already taken it a part once but couldn't see how to get
any further after I toke the back panel off? Please help!
WOW nobody? So no one was heard of this problem before?
Can anyone direct me to directions on taking apart the Wallaby?
Thanks <><
It's a problem with touch screen. You should check (and fix) it.
Maybe it is necessary to press well screen to the motherboard. (Sorry my english).
Ok, Can you tell me where that connection is?
Thanks
Toke everything apart, found the connection, cleaned everything (w/ screen wipe)
put it all back together. Still have the touch problem and now the backlight won't work!
I've found if I press the unit in my hand the touch panel works right,
I don't think it's a lose connection to the main board so I think it must be
one on the main board.
If anybody thinks they want it for parts let me know! :?
I flashed a newer rom onto the phone and since, my touchscreen does not work. I have searched and seen posts that this is a "hardware" issue but since problem occured during the flashing process, I'm hoping it can be fixed.
I have seen something similar in posts about the wifi eeprom being erased. Can something like this have happened to the touchscreen controller?
So far, I have flashed various radios and various OS builds both stock and custom and it is still a no go. I can get past the alignment screen by remotely connecting to the phone and taking out some registry keys (can't remember which right now).
Using Pocket controller I can control the screen except for the screen alignment calibration which wants a pen tap.
Does anyone have any ideas other than "send it in for repair?"
adding...
Just thought I'd add that this was a second machine that I received as payment for helping out a friend. And, while I would have no problem paying to have it repaired or breaking it down to sell as parts, this issue of dying touchscreens gnaws at me as being something fixable through software.
That said, I am not a programmer so maybe I'm just simply wrong. It's an interesting problem though. Makes me wish I knew more about electronics...
I might be way off, but....check the system information for the operating system version, WM 5/6 Professional Is Touch Screen, WM 5/6 Std is not.
Thanks
Thanks for the suggestion but I'm sure the rom I flashed is a touchscreen version.
Well for what it's worth, if anyone is in the same boat, the registry key to delete will be at HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSWelcome
delete the entire sub key as well as the value in :MSWelecome that has welcome.exe in it.
hold the power button until the popup comes and then answer yes. when the machine reboots, it should bypass welcome and the screen calibration.
you can get Mobile Registry Editor here:
http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/2005/1/Mobile_Registry_Editor.aspx
this will let you access your phone's registry from the PC. Good Luck
I wouldn't think that it's the flashing process that broke ur touchscreen. Probably something else like a power surge or something. If you already tried flashing different ROMs, then it's definetely not software anymore. But of course, I could be wrong. There may be some low-level programming thingy that crapped up the connection to the touch screen.
Yeah. You're right. I was hoping that if it was a low level thing it could be fixed with software but I guess not. It was worth a shot.

Why dont you try running a very thin visiting card or anything equally thin between the housing and the screen, sometimes if a tiny partical gets lodged inbetween this problem may occur.
Touch Screen Problem
It is a hardware issue, i have had the same problem. There is no software that is going to help you mate. I restored my original t-mobile Rom sent it for repair and they exchanged the unit. Don't forget they have a manufactures warranty.
I tried everything to try to resolve the problem but with no sucess.
good luck
Update
I've narrowed the problem down to the actual touch screen. I can get the touchscreen to function correctly if I put just enough force where the mylar flex cable attaches to the touchpanel.
It is a very odd coincidence that the touchpanel died just as I was flashing from WM5 to WM6. I distinctly remember doing the pen calibration just before flashing so that I could see the screen for any prompts.
I've ordered a new touch panel and now the next challenge will be figuring out how to bond the flex cable of the touch panel to the main flex cable.
Anyone got any ideas on that?

Mirrored Display
hello XDA community,
I have here an imate Jasjar which after a screen upgrade is displaying the image reversed. It did not begin like this,
Upon first booting up the device after screen upgrade, all was fine, screen displayed normally. About a week after this, the screen began flickering, not on/off, but instead, reversing the image shown on the screen. (a mirror) effect. I did not know what to make of this. I delt with it best I could.
A day or two after this flickering began, the screen began to remain in this reversed image mode, which I did not enjoy. The same day, I had dropped the JJ into a tub ( a pretty hard fall), but somehow, by the grace of god, the water failed to enter the inside of the Jasjar.
After the fall, I had noticed that the screen had stopped its flickring antics and remained normal for about a week and a half. It is now displaying a reversed image only.
I now am unsure of what to do, I searched throughout the XDA forums and discovered that performing a hard reset should repair this.
I suppose my main question is, is there a registry tweak I can perform to revert the displayed image back to its original state
Many thanks to all who respond.

as far as I know, both of your devices are probably dead. Back in the time I was repairing old Ipaq's the mirrow effect was epically called "The mirrow of death" and meant that the display controller (a chip) has failed.
I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think you have many chances to bring them back. Maybe this is not your case, but anyway chances are slim.
thats actually a very interesting idea. If you can mirror them via software, you can fool the device into working again
solution ?
Any solution to this yet ?
Is anyone working on that brilliant idea of that mirroring software ?
I've been having the same problem for almost 6 months now. But for some reasons I am surviving with my O2 XDA EXEC. Now, I can hand my brick to friends without being concerned about my personal messages being read.
However, I have found something. When I charge my phone with a motorola charger, while on charger, the screen flips back to normal. So, my best bet- it is actually a tweeny weenie IC not doing what it is supposed to do.
mirror solution!
Tape the phone to your car's dash and use it as a H.U.D.!!!
hey.... maybe I am on to something here mmmm.....

Does anyone know how to make the PDA do this, I've searched everywhere for a software solution but to no avail.
I want to add a second screen to my PDA (piggybacking on the existing screen) but with an inverted display. This way I will have a normal touchscreen display for entering data and an inverted display for HUD use.
I'm aware that when this happens as a fault it is normally due to a loose display connection causing one of the outer contact to come loose, but I'd need to know which 'wire to cut' to force this fault.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I need help please..

BEFORE YOU RAISE YOU QUESTION,
1. did you make a search for an answer yet?
2. you need to provide details for you problems inorder to let other seniors here to help,
for example... which rom, how is the history....what had you done to it.......
ok ?
[QUOTE=..................
the same problem (i think it is the same) here..
it occurs generally while i am playing games and typing so many letters for sms's.
the problem has been existed since i have bought my prophet. the problem was there on official wm5 rom. using wm6 or 6.1 roms didn't fix it, but decreased a little (or i quit playing games so much).
since i couldn't enter the pin to unlock, two or more times i couldn't make an urgent call, then i soft reset it..
i thought that it is affected by heat changes when the battery consumption is high or when i hold it in my hand very long time. i also thought that it is a hardware problem, but not sure.
recently, i do not use my prophet so much, then it hasn't annoyed me for a long time..
sory,
i should have defined the problem mentioned above:
- when i touch a point on the screen by stylus (or any other way)
it assumes that i touch some pixels left of the point i intend.
- in a few minutes, sometimes this shift increases about one or two centimeters, sometimes it stay one or two letters left of the intended letter on a standard keyboard.
- this shift is much more on the right part of the screen, it gradually decreases towards the left side, and finally it exact macthes that your pressing point.
think of a rubber band, fix one end onto the left edge then stretch it to the right, this is the touch screen you see. release it to shrink it, now this is the way that it assumes you touch on it.
- after soft reset, generally the problem's gone, sometimes not.
- after re-aligning the screen, it's gone, but when somehow the cause gets remedy after a while, it occurs reverse way, then you should correct the screen alignment again (
screen misaligned
I have the exact same problem for years, I would say ever sice I got it. It's happens just like atakatas says.
Just something I noticed, It happens to me when I keep it in my leg pocket, and usually I don't soft reset nor realign the screen. I used to do that, but then I found out that waiting a few seconds it would get back to normal.
So I never asked anything arround here because it really didn't look like a software problem. I would say it is climate sensitive
Cheers
Hi guys,
I bought a second hand mini pro, and flashed (rooted, unlocked bootloader)it with the help of one of the several guides. with Simplexity and MiniCM7
It seemed to work fine at first, but now something odd happens.
I can only turn the device on (working) when I keep the keyboard slided out. When I start up with it slided in, The screen is turned on but no image appears: It stays black.
When it is turned on (slided out) I can use the phone normally. But when I slide it back in, the screen is frozen and won't react to touches.
Putting the phone in and out of standby (slided out) will have two possible outcomes: Either its usable as normal. Or it simply won't come out of standby at all. The phone seems to react (sounds) to pressing the buttons on the keyboard though.
I used Seus and manual methods to reflash to stock, try other kernels, but the problems remain.
I think it's the hardware that's failing but maybe this can be caused by the flashing as well?
Are there any methods to rule out one or the other?

I'm responding to the thread's title : It's a hardware failure.Brick means you can't even power it on/flash mode.If I helped click the "Thanks" button. Also, try using nAa-11 my and x10man's ROM called XMP Rom and tell us if you still have this problem.I understand that you posted this here (If you post it in questions section almost no one will respond )so I won't tell about that.
(Oh, my bad. Mods feel free to move my thread)
I was afraid of that. I'll try your ROM as well, but I'm afraid its the hardware too.
Thankfully I only paid 30 euros for it
I think the flex cable is gone bad, i have the same problem here. My mobile doesnt respond to any touches. First it happened only when i would slide the keyboard. But now its dead as a whole

The XMP rom didn't fix it, so I guess you're right. Would a flex cable (those are the flat orange ones right?) be expensive?

I hope you fix it
This is the cable we are having a problem with, i have given my mobile for replacing this stuff as i couldnt get this locally. This board houses the LCD and the digitizer and the buttons connect to this. The black cable goes to the motherboard. Its pretty simple to take apart the phone, but take care while doing so. Another thing its that, when you are opening the display panel, its better to use a guitar pick instead of a screwdriver and open it at the latches, that would avoid damage to the outer plastics.
