On http://www.pocketpc-club.nl/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23379&highlight=dangaard you can see that this user "basile" has gotten hold on a new 1.60.021 ROM Update from Dangaard Telecom, one of the distributors in Europe. It seems that they've seen in their logs that a lot of people were downloading it, and I didn't even get the chance to get a hold of it! So if someone has this version please upload it so everyone can experience the real 1.60 version

The old version T-mobile 1.60.006 rom update can still be downloaded @ http://www.xda-developers.com/incoming/rom160wwe/.
Did we already mention that this board now takes up to 50 MB attachments?

(doesn't anyone have this version??)
I actually suspect that the new "Dangaard" Rom is not that interesting. The OS version offered in the package is 1.60.00, the Radio stack is 1.06.1, so both are the same as the T-Mobile upgrade. Only the extended Rom is different (1.60.21 instead of 1.60.06).
Aside from that, all non-qtek devices will encounter the Country ID error, thus preventing the upgrade.
Yes, but i have a Qtek 2020 DK ver. and i would really like that upgrade. I was thinking about writing to user "basile" in the other forum, but maybee some of you people speaking Dutch, could do that

I tried but "basile" isn't replying at all...
@ wiz : still, it's nice to have a version without all the t-mobile stuff in your extended rom.
@Roffa: I use the T-Mobile ROM without all the T-Mobile extensions. Simple, after a hard reset, soft reset it at the "3 seconds before customization" screen, customization will not take place anymore. After that, enable the Extended Rom and point and click only the cabs you wish to install .... In my XDA II the word T-Mobile can't even be found in the registry

So can you up the extended ROM for me to try?
Country error
Hello; for your info, not only non Qtek holders but also Qtek holders having upgraded before to the TmobileNL rom will encounter this error!!
Could someone looki into this and come up with something to get rid of the country error;
So far i tryed to flash two new rom versions on my simfree and not tied to any mobile network Qtek2020 (the new european one and the new imate one) and both had the device display the country error;
It seems that they only rom i could flash would be Tmobile's german rom because when i launch the installer the error message is not displayed and i'm offered to flash the Qtek2020.
As there is no support from Qtek at all, which is not the case for imate's owners, could someone help us definitely get rid of this annoying problem which will prove to be more and more annoying as to the lack of elementary support by Qtek for its customers.
Brgds, Arnaud
Hi Roffa and the rest:
Looks like the link to the 1.60 ROM version has been removed from the nl forum by the moderator (stripped down from basile user post).
Has anybody found that anywhere else? We the Qtek owners seem to be out of luck regarding support issues....
i found it
http://www.ace-hellas.gr/qtek/firmware/ruu16021wwe.exe
Is there really a difference between the 1.6 and the 1.6.xxx???
Are there any real significant changes???
Unable to upgrade
Sorry I tried, unable to upgrade get the country id error.
Currently running the 1.60 T-Mobile NL
But here is the content of the Extended ROM
AutoRun.exe
Broadcast_WWE.sa.CAB
CallerIDRC11_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CameraRC131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
Config.txt
MIDI56.sa.CAB

OEM_4AP_WWE.CAB
OEM_WWE_03122301.sa.CAB
TPDisable.exe
TPEnable.exe
Version_AKU1_160.sa.CAB
Are anybody able to download the file from the www.ace-hellas.gr site ???
Yes, it is possible, just try again just now, I am able to download.
Dangaard Rom
Yes, per specific request of Dangaard we have removed the link to the download from our forum. Our website, and with us undoubtedly many other websites, depends on good relations with manufacturers and distributors, and we see no use in harming these good relations by making available rom upgrades that are meant for a limited beta-testing group prior to publication.
We do agree, however, that when branding an OEM product, whether it ends up as an i-Mate, a Qtek 2020 or an O2 XDA II for that matter, it deserves good and proper end-user support. In this, I explicitly do see an obligation for Dangaard, as they seem to be the sole (or one of the few) European distributor for the Qtek 2020, to provide support for the machine, and provide the end-user community with updates as an when they become available.
This, however, does not implicate the right to an upgrade when it has not been made publicly available yet. There often is a reason behind this, and frankly, it would not be the first time that I see an upgrade "leaked" that actually does more harm than good. (For instance, there IS an upgrade out there that very radically and permanently nukes the bluetooth stack of an XDA II, never to be fixed again. Would YOU want to run the risk of having your manufacturer tell you that your warranty is void because you put an update on your machine that you are not supposed to have, let alone put on your machine for instance because it’s not device or provider specific?
That is why whenever there’s an upgrade out there, it is best to leave it to the appointed people that test these roms, or the ultimately manufacturer, to decide when and how it becomes available. Until then, it is at your *own* risk that you apply these type of upgrades, and don’t come crying for help when something happens. I actually DO foresee a lot of problems with non-T-Mobile machines that have the first T-Mobile upgrade applied, which most likely will prevent reverting to the proper operator or machine specific update once it becomes available (we have been seeing quite a few “Error 120: Country ID error” messages lately).
There’s a nice saying in Dutch, “Bezint, eer ge begint”, that roughly translates into “Think, before you leap”, and that nicely applies to this situation. Hence, I’d suggest, rather than hunting down an illegal upgrade, we all are better off joining forces in addressing the distributor, in this case Dangaard, and request regular updates, or at least regular status updates on when an where which upgrade will become available.
PS: I too have willingly put my O2 XDA’s warranty on the line by applying the first T-Mobile rom upgrade. ;-)

I absolutly can admit (and understand) whatever YOUR policies are about YOUR web page posting, and your relationship with providers, but please, keep the moral speech for yourself.
We are supposed to know were we are, and be able to understand the implications of upgrades and misbehaved applications, so PLEASE, stop protecting us from ourselves. (or at least don't try to explain your censorship habits, just say you did because it's your policy, that is!)

Hi,
New to this site but glad I found it, what a handy resource!
I recently purchased a 2nd user O2 XDA II (about 12 months old) which is current setup in its factory default state. I have been reading allot about users upgrading their Himalya models to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition and I wanted to know if the same is possible for the UK O2 XDA II's?
Also will this upgrade lock the Phone and/or reduce the functionality of the phone?
What pre-upgrade tasks do I need to perform first e.g apply updates first etc.
Thanks in advance,
Taz
Watch this site carefully to find out about the SE version - there has been a breakthrough in the last few hours in which mamaich has translated the only official SE ROM (a Chinese one) into English. Work continues...
No Himalaya has been sold with an official English WM2003SE ROM as far as we know, but it may be only time....
What is the existing ROM version of your machine? The latest O2 UK ROM version is 1.72 which you can download from http://www.my-xda.com/xda2_soft.html . It's probably worth upgrading to that if your machine is a year old and is still on its original 1.12 (?) ROM.
Upgrading ROM doesn't re-lock an unlocked phone.
Before upgrading the ROM, backup all important data - it'll be lost in the update.
upgrade
THERE ARE A COUPLE OF WIN03 UPGRADES ON SITE AT THE MO BUT STILL IN THE TESTING STAGE.
I HAVE USED BOTH BUT THEY ARE NOT, JUST THERE YET.
AT THE MOMENT I'M BACK ON 1.72 WAITING TO SEE DEVELOEMENTS.
NOT SURE YET IF ITS WORTH THE BOTHER TO GHANGE AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO PROGS APART FROM VISUAL IS KINDA MINIMAL TO USE NON TECHIES, AND THERE IS A SOFTWARE PROBLEM IN THE SENSE THAT SOME PROGS DON'T WORK ON SE THAT DO ON 1.72 AND VISA VERSA SO I'M TOLD. ALTOUGH IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY SOFTWARE LOADED THEN NOT A REAL PROBLEM.
BUT HEY WHAT A GREAT SITE, I'M LEARNING NEW STUFF DAILY, SOON I MAY BE A TECHY TOO!

Yeah I came across the WM2003SE stuff by accident, was searching the net for some completely unrelated info and came across a link that caught my eye - would you believe it we have not one but two versions to choose from.
I am not too sure if I want to upgrade just yet, one of the reasons I bought a PDA in the first place was to start coding my own apps and as part of a large scale enterprise application I have been developing for over a year now.
If compatibility is an issue then I will hold off for now, I know Microsoft are slowly releasing WM2003SE related development stuff so I don't think it will be long before I take the plunge as I don't mind hacking my PDA's to peices.
As a credit to this site, I was searching various Pocket PC sites on the net (most are to bloated with info or just a bit too American for me) and came across XDA-Developers.com. It was because of the all of the info available on this site that I purchased my XDA II
I have already hacked it apart, I am running the latest 1.72 ROM and 1.17 Radio (is it worth ugrading to 1.18) as well as finally getting Pocket Hack Master to run the thing at 600Mhz with a 200Mhz bus (I will post the correct settings once I have verified that they are indeed the most stable ones).
Thanks again and good luck with WM2003SE!

Well, after a heap of emails to ANZ (australian service agent for Dopod) i got the following response:
Dear Michael,
The 838pro ROM code is AKU2.X. I checked our schedule and there would not be any new ROM update in future. AKU 2.X supports WPA only. Unfortunately, it will not support WPA2. You might consider some of our other products like D810 with AKU 3.X
Thanks.
Kind regards,

So, basically release a full featured phone, then do nothing for it at all, and have it somewhat crippled.
Bad form on Dopods part, and if no other manufacturer updates theres, well, will be the last time i get a HTC PDA. Considering my Mio A701 is currently running a version of crossbow on it, or a choice of an AKU3.5 ROM as well...
Anyway, thought i'd share for those wth dopods that theres no updates coming, at all
omg is this going to be the same with all of the hermes versions? i'm hoping not or my jasjam is never gonna see the light of AKU3.xx or Crossbow.

The crossbow version and the aku3.x version for the Mio A701 are also not official... the comunity has made the rom updates!!
I hope dat "Pof" or others create some custom upgrades voor the hermes!
I like my hermes much more then the teribble mio A701!! (what a buggy phone with worse phone sound!!)
The Mio is actually a very good phone. Look at reviews all over the net at rspected places, and it scores even, or higher than the Hermes based phones.
However, its a "diffent" needs pda, and not for everyone, the same as the hermes isnt fo everyone. having both, i assure you they cater for very different needs, and are both excellent.

I have the same feeling, too. There is no reason the spend money on HTC PDA again if there is not even a minor update after the release date. Given that we no longer can modify/cook our own ROM on HTC PDA due to the certificate protection, owning an HTC PDA is not that worth anymore...

Fun has been increased with this, now we have to think of a way to circumvent signature checking... and be sure we'll do it
pof, honestly in your opinion, what the chances you think of either yourself or another cracking it relatively soonish??
Probably an isolated incedent, but interesting just the same -- In Taiwan, where the TyTN made it's world debut 03-July as the CHT9000, the TyTN has been pulled and is no longer available for purchase.
Dopod has a less than ideal record of supporting Chinese language devices in Taiwan (they're made here, so go figure). I think they tried, failed, and so decided to cut their losses. I tried the Chinese OS for a few days and my impression was it was clunky as compared to the English language ROM. Maybe that's also why it never made it into the China market as a native Chinese language OS.
So, I suspect the TyTN will live on as the Cingular 8525, dopod 838pro, or HTC TyTN... but the CHT9000 is no more..
Me... I'm very happy with my CHT9000... but, running the v1.35ROM of course... cheers.
@mxlaser: see my comment here regarding this.
Thanks pof.
Ever helpful as usual.
Shame theres hesitation on the commnity banding together on this on. 6 months is a long time to worry about updates as WM6/crossbow devices will be here by then...
Hope it goes well... Wish i knew more about it all to help in the end...
There seem to be a lot of different WM6 variants kicking around this forum which seem to require various scary-sounding unlocking/tweaking to install.
What I cannot find is the latest estimates on when/whether the official HTC WM6 will be available? The HTC web site basically says "contact your operator" (in my case T-Mobile UK).

Hey all, looking into buying my wife a Lumia. She's Finnish, and therefore prefers Nokia phones, however, the last time she went to buy a Nokia, of the ones available at the time, none in the US had Finnish as a selectable language. She called Nokia Finland directly on this, and pretty much cursed them up a storm for half an hour about how a Finn, living in the US, can't get Finnish, on a phone made by a Finnish company. She was pretty pissed.
So, she got the iPhone, because it had Finnish as an option. It's not that she doesn't speak and understand English, she just wants her phone in her native language. That was 5 years ago.
Well, it's about time to upgrade again, and while we were looking at the iPhone again, I'm also looking at the Lumia's. Only problem is, I cannot find, anywhere, a list of the languages available in the standard AT&T US Firmwares. It's not published anywhere that I can find.
I have read that the selection is 'limited' and that Rogers has 'all of them, including polish', but that doesn't tell me which ones are in either.
Mainly, I would like to know if Finnish is available in the AT&T US Firmware, and if not, is it available in the Rogers? And how complicated is reflashing it from the former, to the latter. Never owned a windows phone before, but I'm not a stranger to jailbreaking iPhones or rooting/unlocking/etc Androids. Just haven't had hands on a windows phone yet.
If anyone has just a plain list of all the Languages available in the different firmwares, I think that would work out best for everyone. Barring that, if you have one of these phones, can you just post what languages are available in your version? Thanks
Just checked my ATT 920 and Finnish isn't listed. Sorry. Perhaps a call to Nokia to see if there is a language pack.

Thanks for the feedback Demon Fox. ( you're talking about att version right?)
I had the 900 and I sold it for that reason, No Arabic Keyboard input even after the so called 7.8 update( the UI not important for me ). Many people were talking about language packs but no actual "tutorial" or even a hint on how to extract or merge the language packs with a current WP OS.
