Hello,
I just noticed there are many Mini-USB to 3.5 (or 2.5) audio adapters on sale at e-Bay, like this.
All of them seem to be for Motorola phones, though. Anyone has tried on the TyTN?
I seem to remember reading somewhere in GENERAL that they would not. Someone asked HTC and they said it was propietry - but they would have an adapter out soon(ish).
Rich
I can't see why it shouldn't work... it's just £5 so what's the loss if it doesn't...
EDIT: I've bought one today. I'll tell if it works or not....
The port is NOT proprietary. It is a standard mini-USB, and takes standard mini-USB cables.
They tweaked the socket a little bit to go along with their new proprietary headset.
In other words, you can plug in any standard mini-usb cable/accessory, but you can't plug the headset into any standard mini-usb port.
Sorta "dain-bramaged" if you ask me, but since I use a bluetooth headset, it's a non-issue.
Charge and audio simulataneously?
So, how do I both charge the unit and listen to music (wired headphones) at the same time? Does anyone know?
There is an alternative to an adapter. As they say on Blue Peter, here's one I made earlier.......
http://www.4winmobile.com/tutorial-replace-hermes-headset-connector-with-35mm-socket-vt3146.html
I asked htc for an adapter
here ist the answer:
Dear Sir
At present HTC does not manufacture, supply or support such a connection and HTC cannot supply such a diagram.

Easy answer: get an iPod!
Hello,
I tried one of those "motorola / razr" headphone adapters on sale at ebay. while the adapter fits nicely it doesn't work. Tytn just doesn't seem to recognize it.
Any thoughts of why it doesn't work and alternatives greatly appreciated.

If you look at the connector the motorola one has 5 pins across the top of the it. If you look at the Tytn on it has 5 pins across the top and 6 across the bottom. In order to be compatible with current chargers the top 5 pins supply the charging and the bottom 6 supply headset and serial connections.
I do not intend to use the "Line out" function of my TyTN often but it DOES lack an audio output. Sometimes I need to connect the device to speakers and etc.
It should be a modified mini USB port that the TyTN has and that must have saved some space over traditional 2.5mm sockets. We all know 2.5 sockets are not common and you need an apaptor to change it to 3.5mm anyway so prolly HTC gave up on the 2.5 and made the USB standard.
I am pretty sure that some accessory will come out.
Does anyone know if the Ebay adaptor cable will work on the TyTN?
Most of the ebay adapters are standard usb mini for use with the razor etc. These will not work. It needs to be an adapter specifically for the Tytn.
thanks! It is really stupid for HTC not to launch any accessories for the TyTN(or other releases).
Like the Atom Exec has factory cradle kit, battery, silicon cases, leather straps and etc. I don't even know where to get an extra battery!
Thought of one of these:

Hi all,
As per subject...
Anyone know if such as cable is available?
I was planning on getting the new 3-1 Adaptor for the TYTN to make use of the 3.5mm jack and charging feature in my car.
The thing is, the cable for this adaptor is very short and cannot be hidden easily when in the car. So, I was thinking of using an extension cable of some sort, so the adaptor could be more easily hidden elsewhere under the centre console.
Many thanks.
USB Stupidity
Hi,
Affraid i didn't find anything either, and wanted to do the same thing.
I resorted to buying the cable from expansis and "Adapting it my self"
The project was fairly simple, and if your happy with a soldering iron and a multimeter you should be fine.
I now have a small connector on my dash that will disapears under the dashboard to a breakout box. All i basicly did was chop off the box that has the two female connectors in it, extend the wire with an old cut up parralel printer cable (multicore and was lying arround) and then terminated in a project box from maplins.
This has two headphone sockets, (audio out stero, and mic in) as well as a USB socket to charge the phone. (the plan was to have the USB socket be usable for data... but that bit went a bit wrong...
Still from the testing i have done, i now have tomtom and WindowsMedia mp3 play back comming through my car stero, and my VarioII reports to be charging. Havn't had a chance to test it on a long drive yet, i think i might still need a beefier 12Volt to USB adapter.
If anyone want more info on what i did, i'd be glad to help.
here are some pics, sorry v bad Q....
I don't seem to see any pics?...
Ooops...
here you go
Seems good to me- as long as it all works ok then its a good job.
Always been interesting in making my own adapters/cables but have never tried. Perhaps I should give it a go!

Any news on that extension cable yet; is it available?
i brought one of these and successfully lengthened it with an old peice of printer cable (only multi core cable i had to hand)
i then used an off the shelf diy project box to hide the junction in.
worked very well, but i have since changed to a bluetooth car kit.
the soldering was a little small and working out which wire was which was a bit of a pain, but all in all only took an hour or so to sort out. probably worth it.
(AFAIK my dad is still using the one i adapted.)
sorry to put old post on top !! but own a dimaond and just buy a touch HD !
i a m looking for this kind of cable !!
If someone have info !!
where to buy for exemple ?
thanks in advance !!
how about extending the power cable? seems like that would be easier.

I have an old HDTV that only has DVI and component in. Anyone know of a cable or converter that might work with the HDMI from the Dock? I won't be getting a new TV until next year some time, but I would like to use my tablet with the dock and bigscreen.

Yeah you can find a DVI-HDMI cable easily. I used one from my PC (DVI) to my 42" (HDMI). You should be fine if you just find a cable like I used (which was nice that it was cheaper for me than an actual HDMI/HDMI cable and then using a DVI/HDMI adapter).

Thanks for the replies... I am looking for something that will also push audio from the HDMI. I may need to purchase a converter, but I don't want to pay that much if it won't work. I wish the G tab dock had connections like my old archos dock has. Svideo, component, and composite, no HDMI but I didn't need it at the time with my old device.

Is the audio jack on the tab disabled when using the HDMI out? If not, then you can use a 3.5mm to stereo cable to run the audio.
I'm not aware of anyway to adapt out the HDMI audio to an analog equivalent. HDMI audio is digital, so there would have to be some active conversion going on, which means an expensive adapter.

Not sure if audio is disabled when Dock is used(haven't recieved mine yet, I got in on rebate) was hoping to get a jump on what I would need to use my G Tab with my bigscreen.
I know about Digital to analog issue but I have read that some devices will work with a fairly inexpensive adapter. I may be the guinea pig on this... I have found full converters that start from $150.00+. I guess I will wait and see if anyone has already gone down the road I face.
Thanks.

Or rather than a complete cable, just switch right at the TV set with this:

The title says it all:
Does the new I9100 Galaxy S2 have analogic TV-Out, via 3.5 jack ? Apart from MHL.
My I9000 Galaxy S has, and it works well with a Nokia CA-75U cable.
On gsmarena they only mention TV-out (via MHL A/V link) (and i'm not even sure what that means - a HDMI-out ?). Anyway, all i want is to connect the phone to a TV that only has RCA or SCART inputs.
Thank you.
I have report from an owner who is reliable that his Nokia 3.5mm TV Out cable is not working with the SGSII. I can confirm this tomorrow when I get my phone also.
If I'm not mistaken TV out is only supported via the miniUSB plug to a HDMI socket, with a 1080p maximum resolution. The cable doesn't come supplied with the phone though.
not working with the cable from my old n95. SGS1 did support this. Might be due to the cable being half broken, but I think it just doesn't support it.
I was hoping both methods were simultaneously available, like with Nokia N8.
Just to confirm does not work for me either (on the plus side my cheap Ebay USB OTG cable does work).
Damn. So it's either HDMI out (when they get around to releasing the adapter...) or nothing?
For full mirroring, yes. There is the option to share media via DLNA of course, but I suspect that like me you really need mirroring...

I have not seen a single video or post confirming this.
You're quite right, mirroring isn't confirmed.

I think that it is also representative of the new technology. Honestly, I think RCA connectors are outdated and doesn't really make sense.
RCA uses analog, and most TVs now-a-days are digital. Almost no technology runs on analog anymore, so for phones like Nokia to output RCA, it has to have a chip inside to convert from Digital to an Analog output... Then when it reaches your TV, if it is a digital tv, then it has to convert the analog back to digital. At this point - not only is the resolution decreased, but the signal starts to artifact from converting from digital -> analog -> digital again.
I guess this means that people have to upgrade from their CRT/legacy LCD tvs that only accept RCA/AV inputs.
And for the even older CRT TVs, too bad for them because there's no support for coaxial out.
Now that would be cool -- a coaxial out cable for old TVs, in case we ever discover time travel, and want to show the future to people from the 80s on a nice big 19" color CRT TV.

Just some warning - I'm not sure if that will work since it's not an MHL USB-HDMI cable.
If it works at all, it won't be able to charge your phone and display HDMI at the same time because of the way it's designed.
If you don't want to buy the real cable, I saw a generic version here:
http://www.expansys-usa.com/expansys-mhl-to-hdmi-adapter-black-218572/
If you wait another month (I believe June is the month that the supply is supposedly being produced), I think China will have some copies made soon. For complete functionality and compatibility, make sure the cable meets and complies with MHL standards.

HML tv-out adapter for sgs2. $78 on ebay.
The official Samsung HDMI adapter doesn't look to be out for quite a while yet but there's one by BizLite over at Mobile Fun that should be in over the next fortnight (website says 9-14 days)
Cheaper than the official one too. Agreed that it's quite annoying having no TV-out on the 3.5mm jack!
There is maybe a hope.
Exynos 4210 supports composite output. If SGS2 has connected jack 3.5 to Exynos Composite Video Output soldered, there is a hope.
Hi all I need composite video out to connect phone to car video system - so it`s my only hope to get it from 3.5 jack somehow... or is it possible to convert hdmi to composite or component?
I was looking for the type of cable that allow to charge and use cable headphones( C type) . There are solutions for Iphone 7 but I have not come across any for Android. What's the situation in regards HTC U11?
I did the same search for about an hour one night, I didn't find anything either. I expected many options out of China. I was a bit surprised. Maybe the plug cannot put out and accept power at the same time on Android?

I found this where the blogger talks a out possible schematics for usb c that enables both charge and music listening at the same time. Article is written in 2016.
Because I saw such adapters for iphone 7 maybe apple worked it out how to do it on lighting cable. Anyway here is a link : http://pocketnow.com/2016/09/08/the-impending-horror-of-usb-type-c-audio-adapters
I read something about type C that claims that splitting the port for simultaneous use and charging may be technically challenging for some reason. I tried looking for that article, but couldn't find it again. Regardless, if I need to charge while listening to my earphones, I temporarily use Bluetooth and one of these adapters: (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00MJMV0GU/ref=psdcmw_1293687011_t1_B01NCSFAAO)
to continue using my normal earphones until my phone fully charges. I really like my normal earphones and don't want to use Bluetooth ones, so I use this adapter till the phone's charged.
@itiskonrad
Isn't that a rushed decision by android manufacturers to replace 3.5 jack without exploring give situation ?! I have already two decent pair of earbuds and will have the third bundled with handset.
Did you buy that Bluetooth adaptor and using by any chance? If so are you fully satisfied?

It is a rushed decision. What I'm curious about is if they used the anonymous usage data to make this decision. If so, it's possible that people who used both the headphone jack and charged their phone at the same time under-represented themselves by opting out of anonymous usage data.
Companies like Samsung and LG are "throw as many features into the phone as possible!" companies; making them more likely to be the last major manufacturers to get rid of the headphone jack.
3.5 jack on phones is dying off just like removable batteries. It's that simple.
You get a free included adaptor - so this is really not an issue as I see it.

Could be they used wrong audience for that purpose. For instance apple by getting rid of 3.5 jack and patenting lighting port makes a lot of money. And that makes a sense because every company that wants to make lighting cable they pay apple. I don't know what is the situation with 3.5 jack and USB C type but that could also be related to Bluetooth earbuds/head[hone market. Just guessing.
I use my G5 connected to USB Type C for charging, while also using the 3.5mm headset jack connected to the car's AUX Audio input for playing Music, Navigation, Waze. I was hoping there would be an adapter somewhere (for phones like the U11) that would allow it to charge while also being able to connect to 3.5mm audio.
Hi got redirected here by @Lock and Load. Seems it is possible to do manual cable, but have to use data + - for charging (from what i read). That means 500mA charging only. I will try a cable when i get some time. Can a usb-c hub be used? Has anyone tried? Would save a lot of messing around.

Investigated the same option you did. And mailed some sellers about it.
The Y+cables won't charge your phone, only the peripheral which you plugged in the other USB Port. And a power bank or. Charger in the other port.
