Problems upgrading T-Mobile MDA II - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Himupgradeit can't see my device. It gives information that it upgrades to such version (2.06), but what current version it doesn't show. Also native ROM upgrader displays information about current version and upgrades significantly. I tried 2 ROMs and no one can't see my PPC except native one

When you upgrade, you know (normally) what's the actual version on your pda, so who cares if the himaupgrad... doesn't show it. All you want is to do the upgrade, so do it!
BTW, what do you mean by "no one can see my PPC", if you have a RUUlog.log file containing on first line : "hh:mm:ss Connection with USB", then you know that it sees your PPC.
Cheers,
.Fred

You see, it's not the only one problem. Also when I press Update it displays me progressbar, but nothing continues. Then the error displays without any number - just can't connect. The native firmware upgrades normally.
P.S. Sorry for my ugly English

Allright, did you put your ppc in bootloader mode ?
Press Power button and DPad together and when pushing put the stylus in the reset hole. Normally your screen should become black, you should see Serial appear and a number like 1.06
If you have that, kill ActiveSync processes running on your pc then put the ppc in its craddle, Serial should become now USB. Launch the Himaupgra...
Cheers,
.Fred

Thanks, it works. I didn't know, that I need to put in bootloader mode

Always read the instructions before doing an upgrade. If you don't you could damage your ppc and have a dead one.

Thanks. One more question. What version of 03Se better to install? I have downloaded 2.06 XDA2 version. It writes me, that I have wrong model

Good question! But I think this one should work:
ftp://xda:[email protected]/Himalaya_SEs/Himalaya_SE_2.06.00_Imate/
And I would take the Extrom xda2jojo.v3.2zt from great xda2jojo!
Cheers,

Thanks, but where I can find tips how to install? I suppose each version of 03se needs different type of installing

There is a big difference when you upgrade from WM2k3 to WM2k5 or downgrade from WM2k5 to WM2k3 but between same OS, nothing changes!

So just launch himupdate?

HELP!!! Country Error, Tried everything can't upgrade

I want to upgreade my ROM, but I keep on getting a country error, i've tried doingt he coutntry code hack, but it still gives me the same error!
Help me please?
ROM version : 1.60.00WWE
Rom Date : 12/03/03
Radio version : 1.06.01
Protocol Version : 1337.16
ExtROM version : 1.60.06
Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Uh, i would really need someone to show me how to do it, I'm still very new at this.. thanks
I found that the instructions on the wiki, using itsme's tools work for me. ER2003edit doesn't reliably change the country code for me.
Remember to pick the right country code for your device, and to re-encrypt the files.

Now I am in trouble
I tried upgrading it, I thought it worked now it's stuck in bootloader mode...
Please help me!
i tried upgrading it, the country error is back and my unit keeps on displaying Serial 1.02
HElp!
See if it says "USB" when it's in the cradle (with the computer on, etc.)
Then, just run the upgrade again.
Remember though, flashing ROMs is dangerous.

Sx56: Downgrading Radio Stack and other issues

Hey guys, ive been reading many threads regarding issues with the sx56, but after going through most of them, it seems ive been left with more questions. Anyway, my problem is , first of all the reception sucks, signals drop every now and then and i hate saying "sorry? ur breaking up" now from what ive learnt so far from most of the posts is that this "signal" issue is due to the radio stack. My siemens sx56 is running:
Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2003
Model No.: PW10B1
ROM version : A.30.09.ENG
ROM date : 01/01/04
Radio Version : A.33.02
Protocol Version : 1.3.3
now, i have been thinking that maybe i should try downgrading the radio stack while still using ppc2003 , but ive seen many posts in which people have bricked their phones due to downgrade.
Another thing is i forgot what was the default radio version before the ppc2003 upgrade (as i think the signal strength was somewhat better prior to this upgrade) So just to be on the safe side, could any of you recommend me which radio stacks i can use? the ones i see on LumpiStefans site are:
RSU Version 3.23
RSU Version 4.16
RSU Version 4.21
RSU Version A20.10
RSU Version 6.24.20
RSU Version 6.25.02
from what i have figured the A20.10 might be the one which was originally installed in the phone when it came with ppc2002 just a guess since there are no other versions above which has an A in the start. But would downgrading kill my phone?
Now the next problem is the volume problem, that INCREASING ring is quite stupid, ive tried disabling the PDA volume and let the phone volume on full, the increasing ring problem goes away but it raises another problem of JUST ONE RING thats it, it just doesnt keep on ringing, just rings once and then goes silent. Do tell me if this is also a radio stack problem or is there any solution for it.
And yeah , finally, is windows mobile 5.0 any good? is it better than the windows mobile pocket pc 2003? and will it work on the sx56? in fact, are there any other OS besides ppc2002-ppc2003 which would work on sx56?
Thanks.

The A20.10 and the 6.xx Version should work on your phone, cause it's a PW10B-Model....
Flashing of Radio Stack is everytime little bit danderous like all flashing.
If the process doing fine, there should be no problem. I would do removing the sim and doing a hardreset before flashing the radiostack....

This is an issue of the A30.0x ROMs. If you're going to use the 4.01.12 then there won't be the increasing sound problem.....

There is no WM 5.0 available for the Wallaby devices. Newest, but in my eyes really buggy ROM Version is WM2003 Second Edition....
Only othe rOS running on the Wallaby is Linux, but until now it's not running as complete, as you can use your phone and all the other functions....
Stefan
thank u for the reply stefan! just a few more quick questions:
1. How do i soft/hard reset? iam sorry iam new to pocket pc's.
2. The ROM u mentioned ,4.01.12, does it have any bugs i should be aware of?
3.Which radio stack do you think is better? the 6.xx or A20.10?
4.How do i install the radio stack and the rom? i downloaded the radio stack ZIP file and the rom is being downloaded. The radio stack zip file has no WIN32 executable file. Do i need to copy it over the phone ? how?
5. Should i install the rom first or the radio stack?
Thanks.
1. Softreset is pushing your stylus once in the little hole on the left side at the bottom.
For Hardreset you have to unscrew your stylus and push twice in the very little hole on the right side at the bottom.
2. The 4.01.12 has like all other WM2003 for the Wallaby the problem that under certain circumstands the sd-card will be formatted. I have used WM2003 for about 2 weeks and had this problem once.
3. Don't know which one is better. Never used one of them cause i have a PW10A-Model
4. You have to put the files in one folder on your SX56 and run the exe directly on the device. Pay Attention to have enough power....
5. It depends on you.....
Stefan
ok this is weird... i upgraded my rom to 4.01.12, after the O2 Screen, normal setup procedure comes.. the thing which bothered me was when i clicked on DEVICE INFORMATION..it is now showing model PW10A-MODEL whereas its a PW10B model, says so on the sticker, and the radio stack is still A.33.02 :S
its working though signal problems are still there... i tried the A20.10 and 6.xxx radio stack versions but they dont wanna upgrade , they give messages like "upgrade failed or retry". Should i try other RSU versions like 4.21??
or maybe i need to try that sd-bootloader method? if so, how?
ok you can ignore my previous post about radio stack, i guess i found the solution.
Radio stack upgrade only works if you copy the 4 files of any radio stack archive to the WINDOWS ROOT FOLDER OF YOUR WALLABY DEVICE!
copying to a seprate folder or anywhere else results in 1% hangup or upgrade failed messages. IT ONLY WORKS WHEN YOU COPY THE FILES TO THE WINDOWS ROOT FOLDER OF THE DEVICE . I just upgraded the radio stack to 6.24.00, lets see if it solves my the problem of bad and breaking up signals.
I still havent found out why my wallaby shows PW10A though

This depends on the ROM used. PW10A is static in the ROM. If you want it, I'm sure I can make a ROM where it's Type is PW10F .....
Stefan
its the \WINDOWS folder.
And the ROM i used was 4.01.12.
By the way, that 6.24.00 RSU kicks butt! havent came across any signal problems at all. Thanks a lot stefan! this forum rules!
and do let me know about this model version problem, do i need to install any other ROM which will display the correct model version i.e PW10B ??
Got fustrated
I hat the 4.01.16 ROm with 6.02 RSU, I've tryed to upgrade to 6.25.02, copy all files to Windows and the Upgrade to startup, but I kept at 1%, do a reset and after 10 minutes I got an error, now my phone is off, I cannot turned on, in settings I still had version 6.02 of RSU, If I use the Phone icon in Control Panel it says the fhone is off, turn it on and try again and there's the wait icon in the windows.
How can I restore my settings?, perhaps I tryied to updagre with poor storage space, the MS Voice Command eated allmost all RAM and I had to increase it, also I left the SIM while upgrading, any help will be wellcome.

Yes
Yes, The solution was to put all files on the windows folder and execute the update program from that location, the procedure continues to 100%, and then, I think it reset my machinne, and when it boot again I got the new RSU installed and the phone was able to turn on again, automatically.

I have 6.25.02
I'm using the 6.25.02 version, the very same files that had failed with then 1% problem, the trick was no to put anything in the starup folder, do not soft reset before the procedure.
Simply navigate to your Windows folder with any file explorer and execute the update program. Give it time to finish, ensure that the procedure reach 100%.

Did you had the status bar until 100%?
Perhaps you have a wrong ROM for that RSU
Remember that you must have the rigth ROM for a given RSU, all Win2003 require RSU version 6.x, if you hace downgraded the ROM you'll need an older RSU.
Sorry

T-Mobile Unlock
Lumpi,
I, too, have T-Mobile that I need to unlock. My problem is that I can't figure out how to install the XDA ROM that allows the unlock--the link at the bottom of the XDA page doesn't work.
Skip A
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby
I can't open the step by step instructions for installing 'special edition 1.2'.
Some Wallabys don't support the GSM network that T-Mobile uses (at least in the UK), so if your phone works with other SIMs from Vodafone/O2 then chances are it will never work with T-Mobile. In this case, it's a hardware limitation and there is nothing that can be done about it.

i was finnally able to unlock mine yesterday (02/25/07) but you need to change 2 things before being able to use the unlocker.exe program . first you wont be able to do it via the usb connection it just wont work due to the rom currently installed use the sd mem card method to flash the rom using a card reader and OSIMagetool.you need to change the rom to the ROM: 3.17.03 ENG (XDA special edition) you need to do this so you can flash the radio and the current rom wont allow you to do it and then change the radio to version to Radio: 6.24.00 (mine was 6.25.02 and its whats not allowing the unlock to work ) then the unlocker.exe will work . the instructions are on this url http://www.romkitchen.de/tools/manual2_unlock.htm and the software i used is on this url http://www.romkitchen.de/tools/form.php .The instructions here changed the boot loader but it wasnt needed to get my phone unlocked you can probably skip that step also . good luck

Vario II crashed

Hi,
I did the popular mistake, tried to unlock with Universal Unlocker , thinking that this is the staff to unlock all the HTC phones.
Ok. What I have now:
NO GSM - we know that
Tried to install radio roms from here, nothing. I got the information about "Checking the information...." and it is hanging like this.
I made reser and HARD RESET aswell.
I tried to install a lot. Nothing helped.
I had radio ver. 1.05.... I remember that. I have my phone from T-Mobile from UK. I had everything nice, now I have four stripes - RED GREEN BLUE and WHITE and ther is written:
HERM300
IPL-1.01
HERM300
SPL-1.04
Can anybody help me ? I tried to download mtty.exe and put all the commands (not PASTE and it still not working.
Now is 6am in Lisbon. I was sitting all that night and I am finishing writting this post.
Help if you can, regards.
Ben
Have a look on this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280733
It did not help. Where I can get this Qtek rom ? Is that OK for my device ? I have VARIO II from T-Mobile.
I woul like to try instal this - DUMPED English ROM from TMobile Vario II from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_DumpedRoms
but i dont now how. There are 3 .raw files, how to put them to my phone ?
That solution didnt help: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280733
What else I can do ? I was trying with QTEK rom and a got white screen on the phone and 0% on the computer. It was hanging. I tried 5 times. Then I tried to install the Radio Rom from here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
I choosed all of them. Nothing. All of them are hanging on:
Chencking the information on your device... Please wait..
Then there is a screen to update. After long time. So when I press the button is still the same info. Checking the information on your device... Please wait..
And its hanging. When I reset to bootloader again the soft telling me:
This ROM Upgrade Utility does not design for your device.
Please get probper ROM Upgrade Utility and try again!
Where can I get the radio version 1.05 for T-Mobile Vario II ???????????
Is there possibility to download from somewhere ?
Or maybe I should try other solution ?
Read "problem 5" here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
Yes, I was tying point 5 few times. The problem is, I can connect through mtty.exe without any problems, but after soft reset, I am pressing POWER and OK button and going to bootloader mode again, and when I am trying to flash the extracted radio ROM (i tried all of them = 4) and there is a problem. nothing is working. I am waiting and waiting, and there is only info: Checking your device information or something like that. What can I do ? Sorry for my English guys.
Instead of flashing an extracted radio image try to flash a normal shipped rom (if possible matching your cid). Capture the process using usb monitor to see where exactly it fails and which error you get.

I tried that ROM 2 times, once I plugged with holding camera button and second time without. I made monitor of QTEK rom aswell, because its the one which is changing phone screen from red green blue stripes to completly white. But nothing else is doin...
A attaching logs in zip file below. I have 3 files from each session, I dont know which are correct, 2 of them i saved and 1 is exported.
What do you think ?
I used USB-monitor from http://www.hhdsoftware.com/
very weird... usb seems not working but for what you say bootloader seems to be ok. Are you sure this was after patching the radio with universal unlocker? it seems totally a different problem :-$
I guess you'll have to wait until t-mob releases a ROM matching your CID and then flash it using the hermimg.nbh sd-card flashing method.
You can also try to connect to it via serial, I have no experience on that, but a search on these forums might tell you how...
keep us updated
How long I have to wait ?
Should I go to T-Mobile when I will be back to Scotland and tell them what I did or what ? Did I lose my warranty ? Do you know approximately how much they will charge me for flashing my phone ?
Do I really have no chances to repair it by myself ?

I don't think you lost the warranty. They usually charge about 100 eur for flashing it back in the service centre. They do it by inserting a diagnostics sd card, but we don't have it for the Hermes

You can try flashing over serial port, and you can try sd-card flashing, but for sd-card flashing you need a rom matching your CID first.
Eureka!!!
Finally I made my device working again!
And I dont have simlock !

1) I downloaded ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v1.zip
2) Reset my phone in bootloader mode.
3) Plug USB cable.
4) Run HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v1.
5) After 20 min. my phone said ELO to meeeee He did not have simlock when was saying that.

That was simple. If you have any Hermes radio problem, try that first - HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v1.
Will be more often here, forum seems to be really interesting.

HardSPL - Just can´t do it in G4... :(

Hi to everyone,
I've read dozens of pages on how to do a HardSPL in Prophet G4, but i simply can't have success...
I've tried 4 or 5 methods that I found here, but none of them had been suceded...
I get a white screen, i get the 3 color screen, the connection fails...
I din't know what to do more... Can somebody help me, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
I use Win XP Pro, and my Prophet gives me this info when I do Soft Reset:
IPL 2.10.0001
SPL 2.20.0001
GSM 02.47.21
OS 2.20.734
I was already able to change ROM once, because I had it in portuguese and now is in english, and with other logos.
But what I would like was to install WM6.1 or 6.5...
The HardSPL *.bat file gives me this information, now:
"One or more CON code pages invalid for givem keyboard code"
"cerun:failed to execute program"
Can somebody give me some idea?
Thank you so much in advance!
I was in the same situation as you. You have to find the rom:
RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe
Search in the forum for the rom. After extracting the rom, run the file: ROMUpdateUtility_No_VenderID.exe.
It will survive your device. then you can install a wm6x rom from this site.
Don't forget to do hard spl your device next time.
Edit: It seems the rom is here:
http ://xvx45-spf.4shared.com/account/file/12240109/ca99469a/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.html
Also there is a "readme.doc" in the rom dir. Read the section 8. It is written for you.

Hi keenblade,
I was able to do that. My PPC went with the 3 color screen, and then I user a rom with No vendor. I disabled USB connection in ActiveSync, and then I could do that. I brought my PPC back.
My problem is just the HardSPL... I just can't do it... I've tried so many tomes and with so many files that I think i need some straight orientation, or i don't know what was wrong...
In this moment i have the PPC with WM5, but what i really would like to do is make a HardSPL to install WM6...
Did you try "Prophet Upgrade" tool? Before running the tool, you have to connect with activesync.

Yes, i've used Prophet Tools already...
I guess i'm doing something wrong... I've tried again now, and went again with the 3 color screen. I'm injecting a NoVendor Rom again.
When doing HardSPL, when the screen turns white, i must disconnect and reconnect device and just wait that software finishes, right? There is a moment that nothing happensm but then ActiveSync recognizes again the PPC.
I'm i right? I must do that again. It must be somtging that i'm doing wrong...

When the screen turns white, I do nothing. Just wait. I don't disconnect and reconnect device. Maybe this is the problem. Do not touch the device when screen turns white. It will continue eventually. Also use the latest Prophet Upgrade tool v2.6.
Let's see what will happen.

I got it! I've followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349900&page=9
And now I have a brand new WM 6.5 in my old Prophet!!!!!
Thank you very much!
Nice to see you get your prophet back to life. I still use wm6.1. Because it is said wpa2 does not work with wm6.5. I haven't try wpa2, yet.
Best wishes.

That's a good question... as i live in a non populated wifi area, i use just WPA, and it's fine. I must try WPA2, to check that.
and btw, 6.5 rom from babak00000 is just great. Love it.
