Am I right in noticing that the batteries of the 64 MB xda model are depleted quicker than the 32 mb model
And is there any other diffrence of the models besides battery-life ?
No
The difference is unnoticable
I'm sure it's just me, but I think I get better battery life with my 64mb than I did with the 32. Battery Pack (3rd party app) now tells me to expect 3hr 10mins from a charge, whereas on the 32mb xda it used to average around 2hr 50mins.
I seem to remember seeing somewhere that the service pack release for PPCPE (which comes with recent ROM updates) had some coding to enhance battery life. Maybe I just conditioned the battery better.

My 32MB Qtek gives me 10hr 46mins newly charged. Your device has to be seriously messed up.
So it said in the manual... Battery Pack's battery remaining time indicator 'learns' how you use your battery and adjusts the time accordingly.
I make phone calls and listen to WMP a lot - I suppose they both give the battery a serious caning.
I don't really believe the display anyway!
What do you do with yours?
Sorry, that last post was me, not logged in!

I use Spb GPRS monitor which displays remaining time depending on the load and usage of GSM. It displays 6:39 when fully charged which is correct IF
1) I connect to GPRS and use it (30kbit average all the time)
2) Have backlight on
3) Have MP3 playing
and it is absolutely correct (with a 20 minute reserve at the end)
Good morning!
Over the last week, the battery life on my JASJAM has become totally miserable. I'm just barely getting over the 12-hour mark most days, and this is with very little use, mostly just receiving emails on my desk while I'm sitting at work. The only programs running are ActiveSync and Outlook, as I use Microsoft Direct-Push with my company's Exchange server. I am always connected to 3G in New York City.
Now, this might be due to the usual crappy Cingular 3G issues in New York City. Before this ROM upgrade, in some parts of the city, my phone would constantly turn on as the network was creating some wacky reactions with the phone. Since going to the Cingular-inspired radio ROM, the screen stays off but I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes.
Anyway, do you think my battery problems are ROM related, network related or something else? BTW, I've tried two different batteries and they've both had similar run-down characteristics.
Thanks!
Mine was last loaded 3 days ago and has more than 60% left.
But i've used the phone just some times and only 4 or 45 phone calls.
And NO UMTS!

This is a problem that I have talked about before on other forums. Using 3G on the tytn will shorten your battery life about half compared to using edge. I dont use my tytn for much (a few calls, msn for chatting and email and some browsing) and I can't get more than 10 hours on a charge. When I change it to edge I can get over 24 hours.
Hollywood...
Believe me, I feel your pain. I'm using an extended 1500mah battery right now (which doesn't quite fit perfectly but close enough) and I think it should be good for about 17 hours according to the current calculation with UMTS always connected. That's enough to get me through 1 day, but it's pushing it. Do you think the next HTC rom might show improvements in battery life?
Thanks
hey CNJYC, slightly OT but did you get the Seidio battery or the one from Lionbattery.com?
Sleuth255...
I have the Mugen 1500mah version from Lionbattery.com. It is every so slightly thick which causes the battery cover to bow out maybe a millimeter or two in the middle, really not much at all. I will not go with anything larger that requires a new battery cover, as this defeats the purpose of such a nice, small device. Instead, I carry a spare or two when I'm traveling. Do you know anything about the Seidio battery?
Yeah, it has the same problem. I have a Seidio. I was wondering if the Lion battery fit a bit better.
Got it...thanks
@CJNYC and Sleuth255,
Compare to standard battery, how much more (hours or minutes) do you get from the extended battery?
Maybe 2 hours on 3G
After ur post and continious using of 1.16 radio on mu HTC TyTN for a week now i also feeling that the radio seems drain battry fast....the situation is that i generelly receive/made 10-15 call a day of total 1 hour or so duration....30-40 min of game play and may be more less 10-20 min of chatting and browsing in my tytn and i can get upto 2 days easily with 20-30 % of battry life left in gsm 900 mode ooo and always pushmail activated and of avarage 8-10 e-mail receiving and sending...
but after 1.16 radio i thnk i can go upto 1.5 days with same battry left and the senerio is the same regerding my usage pattern....and most of all before that the battry used to discharged 10% overnight at maximum when i was sleeping with 2-3 mail receiving through pushmail and of course no other use...but now it seems im loosing 20% on same time period...
i think i need to do some more testing regarding this battry life probs...any other feedback is really wanted...
thanks
Sajib...
Thanks for your posting. The 25% reduction since going to the 1.16 ROM that you reported is basically exactly the reduction I'm seeing here on 3G in NYC. Everything else about the ROM is better, especially how it handles weak signals and not forcing the screen on, but if I can't get a full day out of it I will probably downgrade. I'm just holding out for a new HTC ROM, but I'm not sure I can wait any longer.
Any other experiences with the 1.16 Radio ROM?
Thanks!
I have some problem... Dunno is because of 1.16 Radio ROM or my application. But i did Hard Reset & Install bk the Application that i use previously. The problem still same...
Let say i didn't touch my phone (Button) for about 30min and more. The phone will like go to Searching Mode.....wat i did is turn to FLIGHT MODE, then OFF the FLIGHT MODE. Then the phone only will get the service provider. After that it's ok. ...
Anyone encouter this problem b4?
Hi,
I'm noticing the battery life really suffers when the weather is cold. Right now, the phone will run out of batteries on standby with Push Email within 5 hours on a full charge.
I'm looking for another battery for it. Does anyone have any recommendations? I bought one of those high capacity ones on Ebay but it doesn't fit well so the phone will turn off sometimes because of bad contact. Needless to say, I'm not impressed with those Ebay batteries on sale everywhere.
Recommendations?
Thanks,
al8525wu
I've had this for about a week:
3200mAh EXTENDED BATTERY FOR CINGULAR 8525
http://www.seidioonline.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=609
My only complaint is the size. It will make your phone about 1.5 times thicker. Although it is nicer to hold while writing txt or email messages. I love the fact that I can now play music while working for hours and not worry about battery life in a 3G area.
How many days do you go between charges?
a larger capacity battery may lead you change your back lid to a real...real strange one

I just got the same thing for my phone! Takes a few days to get used to the hump on hte phone, but its sooooo awesome!
My 8525 is over a year old and i was getting 10 hours of use out of it before it would shutdown.
Put this battery in and i charged it Thursday night...made a few calls and internet lookups on friday...saturday the same and sunday the same...Maybe 2 hours total talk time and 3 hours on teh internet. Then sunday evening it was around 40% and i finally got it down to 10% after running slingbox on it for 90 minutes while playing some call of duty 4 on the pc!
The only annoying thing is it chirps for low battery for HOURS if you arent using it.
I'd say this realy makes the phone alot more fun and functional. Previously i would minimize playing games or ineternet browsing or slingplayer watching, now i can do it whenever and as long as i want and its very unlikely the phone will be dead before i go to bed!
A friend of mine has received a brand new Lumia a few days back as a gift. This guy happens to be an iOS/Android developer, and he doesn't give a damn about WP7, so he asked me if i wanted to swap my 5 months old GS2 for his Lumia, because he thinks it has no use to him. Sure, i know that this one is a big deal for sure, and that even if i don't like the phone i'll have no problem selling it making some good cash. Anyway what i'm asking you here is how does it feel moving from a top Android to a top WP7 device? Did anyone do that? What's your experience about it?
I already have an Omnia 7 so i know that WP7 is a good OS, but i was wondering basically how good this phone is as a daily driver compared to my GS2.
What will you be using the phone for? Games? Mere surfing and checking Facebook? Work? First thing I noticed when going from Galaxy S (not the 2nd) was that WP7 was way more stable and more importantly, the battery is just a beast, 24h with no charging and still having another 12h on it, despite watching movies for 3h on it.

Well i'm not really a heavy gamer, but i play some game from time to time. My usage is pretty average i guess: browsing every now and then, gmail and twitter syncing, whatsapp, youtube, a movie sometimes but that's rare. Sound quality doesn't really matter because i already have a Cowon, can't beat that anyway Basically i want a reliable and solid phone that won't die at about 3 p.m. every day with my kind of usage.
My network did not have the Nokia Lumia in stock when it came to the end of my contract a few days back, the next best this was the SGS2, I sold S2 online and with the cash bought an unlocked Lumia.
Its a really, really nice phone and is very fast, there are a few bugs (firmware related) and we have been promised by Nokia for an update in the coming weeks. If I were you I would go for it, I did, and havent looked back
I cant say about the SGS bit i switched to the Lumia from iPhone 4 and im not regretting. This Os is better than iOS.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I did this switch my self, SGS2 to Lumia 800, and to be honest, best phone switch I've done. The phone just works and I think, despite the tiny bugs in the firmware it's still among the best phones on the market.
There's plenty of games for WP7 and the native apps other than that work pretty well.
Tho I do miss Opera Mobile/Mini on it.
There should be a thread somewhere (yikes) here that explains weak point and strong points against iOS and Android. For the phone itself it's beautifully made, feels like a real piece of hardware in your hand. It weighs a bit more then expected but hardly an issue unless you have real trouble carrying stuff
The audio quality for me at least is great but I know some people had trouble with it.
The battery life is magnificent, haven't done any real tests but it easily lasts 24h despite heavy usage.
Camera is good but I expected better for going full-out with "Carl Zeiss Optics.."; but it might just be me not having a clue how to point-and-click the damn thing.
I love this lil bugger but Ice Cream Sandwich looks pretty damn sexy as well. I think you won't be disappointed by either phone.
Ok, i think i made up my mind in the end: tomorrow i'll meet my friend and grab the Lumia
I'll report back my first impressions, thanks everybody.
If your not bothered about rooting or the customisation of android then go ahead , wp7 is a much improved version of iOS, just as fast and sleek but with menus and a better looking UI. I have a lumia given to me as a work phone. Not my cup of tea personally , wouldn't dare swap my gnexus for it but has good features as well. Build quality is top notch , decent camera (Carl Zeiss lens) , very nice screen. Down sides , poor customisation apps are slow to use , not the best app choice , no developer support and its a new os. Also because it has the funding of windows and this is one of the most important areas to the company then you know its not going to go web os way , you are going to have a phone with updates and a lot of services. (Nokia maps/music/zune )
My advice is if your looking for a iPhone because you like the way it works (simplicity etc) then the lumia all the way as it works in a similar fashion. If you appreciate the way android works (rooting roms customisation and the actual os) then keep your s2 as it is still easily one of the best phones on the market.
I'd stick with the s2 but if you got a lumia I would doubt you would be dissapointed.
Hope the upsides and downsides I have listed my help you a little

Good choice. My colleague here has the SGSII and gets around 16 hours battery life and has problems with apps crashing and the os lagging/random reboots. No such problems with the Lumia and I get 24 hours with heavy or 36 hours with light use.
I bought a Lumia 800 few days ago but still can't get to 24hrs.. I tried the diagnostics tool and get a 1505 mAh full charge, so I have no battery problems, but still after a few hours of heavy usage the battery dies(90% of times wi-fi is off!!!), tips?
Define heavy usage and define "few hours". I watched movies for 2-3h yesterday and then went to sleep, woke up and fiddled with the camera and checked Facebook regularly until now, 45% battery life remaining. Estimated time remaining: 14 hours. Time since last charge: 13 hours
I have never seen "remaining time 13hrs" ;-) this say's it all!
Now I have 27% with 3hours left.. I never use wifi and i deactivated (i think everywhere) GPS localisation for pictures and stuff like that..
for Heavy usage I mean mail check every 15/30 mins, 5/6 web pages opened per hour and half an hour of games every 8/9 hours with medium brightness... I don't even think that this is "heavy".. with my Nexus S (SLCD) i can get to 40/50hours with no problems and with the SAmoled one I can complete with no problem 1 day (18 to 24hours).. Is there any option that I have to set to get my battery to last enough to go to sleep with still 10/15% left? thanks

Same, my L800 is about a week old now. Battery life so far is not very good and nowhere near the advertised or GSMarena's 35/40 hours.
Right now: 88%, 12 hours remaining, 3 hours since last charge. Rather high battery drain considering low/moderate use. 1529 mAh full charge capacity.
No crazy apps that are always on using data connection except WhatsApp. I don't use twitter, I don't religiously check FB and RSS feeds are on manual refresh since I am in front of PC most of the day. Some calls, whatsapp and a few emails during the day.

At the moment I got 94% remaining and "Estimated time remaining: 1 day 6 hours".
Sounds like you have a battery bug of some sort.

I certainly hope it is a bug and the upcoming update fixes the battery issues for all. There appears to be a massive disparity in L800s battery life reports. Some people have the confirmed but where battery doesn't fully charge.
What is your drain rate in Diagnostics? Idle with screen on is between 120-135 mA with occasional spikes into 200+ mA. What is your usage pattern, more or less?
Doing around 185-200 mA idle screen on. Phone syncs to gmail/facebook/calendar, I check it about once a hour, at night I watch movies for like 2-4h and during the day I try out my apps that I developed or other ppl's ones.

Yes, must be some kind of battery bug.
Doing some math (1529 mAh battery as reported by my L800) and battery durations as provided by Nokia and GSM Arena test.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/nokia-lumia-800-battery-test-now-over-see-how-it-did-test/
Hours Drain (mA)
3G standby 265 5,77
GSM standby 335 4,56
Average 300 5,10
2G talk 13 117,62
3G talk 9,5 160,95
3G talk (GSM Arena) 8,42 181,59
Average 10,31 148,35
Music 55 27,8
Video 6,5 235,23
Video (GSM Arena) 5,87 260,48
Web Browsing (GSM Arena) 4,12 371,12
The phone should last an average person 18 hours assuming a typical 8 am - 2 am day ...
45 mins talk (110 mAh drained), 2-4 hours web/SNS (800-1200 mAh drained) and say some music for 2 hours at the gym (50-60 mAh drained) ... that still leaves 10+ hours of idle drain of around 5 mA according to Nokia.
@SvanteH: You phone's battery life is simply exceptional but do you actually get 24+ hours of usage out of it or are you down to below 10% at the end of the day?
I usually charge it every alternate night + some hour usb charging during the day

I'm jealous of your L800's battery life, trumps mine by a large margin.
[UPDATE] Unplugged at 100% charge and it said 14 hours remaining. Sigh.
I know it would sound silly and I personally don't believe it but I want to make sure...
I removed the memory card out of my phone on friday and I realized that the battery is still on 40% even I charged my phone nearly 1,5 days before (Saturday evening and now is Monday morning) which is surprising - usually I get cca 19 hours... Well, I know its nonsense but is there any chance that the sd card matters? I used the phone same as before - some emails, internet, angry birds etc and I am using branded Kingston card....
thanks

yeah, it sounds silly considering all eating my battery is the display, at least that's what the report says. but i will try, nevertheless
