Didn't really see anything else like this around and figured it might help people get started with performing an upgrade. Please keep in mind that while I tried to make it "generic" it was really designed around ROMs available at the time of this posting. The future might invalidate parts of this guide. The attached is simply the text file version of the guide, and my Custom Extended_ROM (barebones). Enjoy,

Hermes Upgrade
This document details a specific example of upgrading your HTC Hermes device. It's
going to be out of date real fast, but you should be able to (fairly easily) apply
any steps here to any upgrades you want to make in the future. In case you are not
up to the task of taking the knowledge imparted here and extrapolating it for your
specific case, you probably shouldn't be doing this at all.
Prior to undertaking any steps in this document:
- Charge your PDA to full (or at least >= 75%) power.
- Back up your data, the ROM upgrade WILL cause you to lose all data.
- Use either a laptop PLUGGED in, or a desktop with a UPS.
- Turn off your screensaver, hibernation settings, sleep settings, etc.
- Use a reliable connection for USB (back of computer, etc).
- Don't run any games, etc that might cause an unstable computer.
- Basically, if anything interrupts most of the updates, you're screwed.
- If something disastrous DOES happen, consult the wiki at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems
or search for other solutions using the forum search feature at:

[ Part I - SuperCID Hack ]
FILE: /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HTC_Hermes_SIM_Unlock_v2a.zip
FORUM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=282073
This is done so that even if the ROM you chose upgrades to BootLoader version 1.06
or higher you will still be able to load other images without CID error. Currently
this SuperCID hack can only be run on BootLoader 1.04. If you have BootLoader 1.06
it is possible to downgrade assuming a ROM for your particular device with 1.04 is
available. If there is no ROM with BootLoader 1.04 available, or you have the 1.09
BootLoader (or greater) then you will have to wait for the appropriate utility.
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_BootLoader
The instructions for this hack details a process by which you are instructed to do
a flash of a new RADIO ROM. Above is a link to the Hermes BootLoader wiki that has
more detailed information on how to connect to the BootLoader. In particular, make
sure to turn off ActiveSync's USB connection before continuing. You will re-enable
ActiveSync at the step (7) where he asks you to connect to ActiveSync and copy the
HERM_Unlock_v2a.exe to your device and run it. Be aware that there's absolutely no
indication that the program is even running, but after a minute or so it'll pop up
with a SUCCESS message.
[ Part Ia - Hack Verification ]
FILE: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/mtty.exe
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_BootLoader
Please read the above Wiki Page thouroughly, especially the part that disables the
USB connection in ActiveSync before connecting to the BootLoader. It should not be
necessary to authenticate via password for our purpose.
To verify the SuperCID hack is indeed present, enter the BootLoader and issue:
> task 32
The response should return: Level = 0
If it does not the SuperCID hack is not present and it is not recommended that you
proceed further as the ROM upgrade below may install BootLoader >= 1.06 and unless
you have a previous version ROM with a CID that matches your hardware to fall back
on you'll be stuck with it. In the case of BootLoader 1.09 as of this writing it's
even worse because "normal" methods for downgrading will not downgrade the SPL.
[ Part II - Flash New ROM ]
FILE: /Hermes/Shipped_Complete_Updates/*
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Upgrades
FORUM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=306
To start, get your desired ROM. Even if you desire a different RADIO ROM or ExtROM
you have to start with the ROM (which unfortunately means flashing all three). The
RADIO and ExtROM may be changed after this step. Use the wiki and forum to find an
appropriate ROM for yourself. If you're reading this it is probably a good idea to
NOT try the absolute newest ROM available--wait until the forums seem to have some
information about other users' experience with it. Every ROM has its own quirks so
if some of the steps below (such as editing ExtROM) don't work, it is probably due
to the ROM version you chose (this may not matter to you though).
Unzip your ROM into a directory BEFORE installing it. You can use WinRAR, or other
free utils (Google) to accomplish extracting the installer data into a folder. You
do this to minimize any problems, and make it easier to perform a proper upgrade.
When you think you're ready run ROMUpgradeUt.exe in the extracted installer folder
and follow its instructions exactly. Please note that you must have the ActiveSync
connection to your PC (this can be Guest however), and that the battery power must
be > 50%. This should be sufficient, but if you're paranoid then fully charge your
unit before performing this upgrade. By the way, most people would recommend to be
in BootLoader mode before running this upgrade, but the reason I have specifically
asked you to be connected to ActiveSync is that if the Super CID hook was not done
properly there will be an error (whereas in BootLoader mode there would not).
Please note that as we have completed the Super CID hack above, the first time you
run this it should succeed. If it does not and complains about an invalid CID then
the hack must not have worked. In that case you can still update but be aware that
if the ROM you are attempting to install is BootLoader 1.06 or greater you will be
stuck with that version ROM unless you are able to do a downgrade (assuming one is
available for your model hardware with a 1.04 BootLoader). Should you still desire
to upgrade your device and you have BootLoader 1.04, simply close the update error
and program (do nothing to your device which is now in BootLoader mode). Then open
the update (ROMUpgradeUt.exe) again and proceed as before (it shouldn't error this
second time through).
[ Part III - Flash New RADIO ROM (Optional) ]
FILE: /Hermes/Extracted_Radio_ROMs/*
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtractedRadioRoms
Please note that you can ONLY perform this operation if your BootLoader has stayed
at version 1.04. Even with the Super CID hack you cannot install a different radio
if your ROM installed BootLoader 1.06 or greater.
To start, get your desired RADIO ROM. Use the wiki and forum to find one you would
like, just as you selected a ROM in Part II above. As with the main ROM it is best
to wait until the forums have information about other users' experience with a new
RADIO ROM before you try it yourself.
At this time, you should unzip your RADIO ROM but do not run MaUpgradeUt_noID yet,
instead open windows Task Manager and under the Processes tab locate: wcescomm.exe
Kill this process and then run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. The reason for this is an odd
issue where the updater would hang at 0% somehow related to the ActiveSync process
getting messed up somehow (maybe from prior steps).

Hermes Upgrading Guide - Part 2/2
[ Part IV - Create Custom ExtROM (Optional) ]
FILE: /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs/HERMES_MountExtROM.CAB
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Unhide_Extrom
WIKI: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_ExtendedRoms
This is probably the most complicated part and by no means is it necessary for you
to create your own custom ExtROM; however if you would like a customized installer
that includes your own desired applications and settings, then this section is for
you. Download the HERMES_MountExtROM.CAB file, and install it on your device. Then
perform a soft reset and the \Extended_ROM folder should now be available.
Generally it is recommended to copy this folder to your main computer, and operate
on it from that platform. Using the second wiki page linked above, and information
from forums, download whichever ExtROM zipfiles may have additional files you wish
to have in your custom ExtROM. Also download (or extract) cab files for any custom
applications you wish to include in your "cooked" ExtROM.
You will generally have to play around quite a bit doing many hard resets pressing
the left and right softkeys while pressing reset until you have determined all the
necessary cab files that result in your desired operation. The Config.txt file has
a listing of all the commands that are performed during the installation of ExtROM
cab files and settings. Of course, every time you do a hard reset you will have to
download and run the HERMES_MountExtROM.CAB file again in order to be able to have
access the ExtROM. The following is a list of commands for the Config.txt file:
CAB: \<directory>\<filename>
This is the install directive, with the argument being the full path to a CAB file
that is to be installed. The directory is usually "Extended_ROM" since the rest of
the device will be clear; however it can be set to point to a directory on storage
cards (though this is not recommended for obvious reasons--the storage card is not
guaranteed to be present during a hard reset of the device).
EXEC:\<directory>\<filename>
This is used to execute a file present either in the Extended_ROM, or somewhere on
the device itself (or again possibly on a storage card). Usually on the Hermes for
instance you might see "EXEC:\Windows\SetHSDPA.exe /Disable" if the ROM has chosen
to disable HSDPA (please note that this file is not always present on all versions
of ROMs).
CPY1:<directory>\<srcfile> / CPY2:\<directory>\<dstfile>
These commands are used to copy a file from one place to another, CPY1 is used for
identifying the file to copy and CPY2 is used to point to its destination. They're
quite useful if you need to copy settings, or other information from the ExtROM to
the main filesystem. As with CAB and EXEC there are technically no restrictions on
the source and destination directories, but it is generally not recommended to use
storage card references from within the ExtROM.
LOCK:Enabled / LOCK:Disabled
These commands lock the user interface so that no input can be made (interference)
during the installation process. Assuming you are installing any unsigned or other
custom applications you will need to put it outside this grouping.
SHOW:<directory>\<bitmap>
This should display a background image during the install process of your choosing
but as I've never had the ocassion to use it I am unsure of the specifications for
the image itself. Search forums for more information if you would like to use it.
HIDE:Enabled / HIDE:Disabled
These commands hide (enabled) and show again (disabled) the "installer" screen for
the ExtROM installation process. These commands are most useful when you have need
to install unsigned applications (or other custom apps that require user input) so
that the user is able to see (and when not in LOCK mode interact with) the install
process for that specific application. Usually you would exit LOCK mode then enter
HIDE mode before performing the installation of non-signed applications.
RST: Reset
This does exactly what you would expect--it performs a soft reset. This command is
usually placed at the end and in fact it shouldn't go anywhere else or the install
will be interrupted at the point of reset (and not resume afterwards).
The following is an example of how one might choose to set up their Config.txt. It
includes installation of cab files, the copying of an application from ExtROM into
main memory and its execution, the interactive installation of applications and an
example interactive application execution. Please note that it is not necessary to
copy an application to main memory in order to execute it.
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\file1.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\file2.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\file3.CAB
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\app.exe
CPY2:\My Documents\app.exe
EXEC:\My Documents\app.exe
LOCK:Disabled
HIDE:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\app1.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\app2.CAB
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\interactive.exe
HIDE:Disabled
RST: Reset
Thats it! You're on your own from here as to how you would like to create your own
custom ExtROM. You should now have an upgraded ROM/RADIO ROM/ExtROM and a reset of
the device (using the left and right soft keys with reset) will make sure that the
ExtROM is hidden and locked again (and of course provide a fresh install).
Hope this document has been useful, feel free to chime in with additional tips and
any comments on errors in this doc or additional information that may be useful!

Great!
I also wrote a summery of info I got on xda-dev: Making upgrading and unlocking a bit clearer
But your text is much more detailed. Escpecially the commands explaination in "Create Custom ExtROM" is very nice!
Thanks a lot to both for such complete info and resources. Mine is right now upgrading to 1.35.

I linked it on the Upgrading FAQs wiki page:

Any one knows about how to downgrade at formally versions?
I wanna try Dopod_CHT9000_1237071_1060010_WWE_SHIP or DopodAsia_AUS_1.30.707.4_1.20.31.10_WWE_Ship.
Thank you.
HTC TyTN
ROM 1.35.255.2 WWE
BootLoader 1.04
Unbranded HTC TyTn
I've just bought a new HTC TyTn and I would like to upgrade the Radio Rom etc...
As the phone isn't locked to any network, I'm assuming that I don't need to apply any SuperCID hacks etc to the device to perform upgrades. Am I correct in thinking this?
Do I still need to keep the bootloader to 1.04 etc?
I really haven't a clue here, I've had a look through some of the wiki, but it seems to be geared to hacking branded devices etc.
Please let me know what I need to do and where I can find the relevant info to get my TyTn / Hermes completely up-to-date, with stable releases please.
All the version no. are in my signature.
Thanks!

Thanks walshieau, what rom do you suggest I upgrade to? My radio rom seems to be pretty crap, has awful reception and constantly losing utms/gprs. I've come from a HTC wizard, where I had no problems with gprs or phone connections.
Any help appreciated...
i suggest you use the HTC 2.05 AKU 3.3 rom... i have found that to be quite stable and have had no problems as yet...http://rapidshare.com/files/17337364/RUU_Hermes_HTC_WWE_2.05.255.1_6275_1.34.00.10_108_Test.exe

With this ROM you've suggested, is it simply a case of running it on my PC? Or do I need to have the SSPL program running?
I've just downloaded and opened the ROM, isn't this a simple program, do I need to do additional task to install it, as I'm using an unlocked phone?
download this tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293651 on the first post and follow his instructrions... then you can just simply run the .exe file... its that easy
Backup existing ROM
The wiki is very confusing on this.
Like mezhopking I have an unbranded TyTN Her200 with the 7/06 factory ROM. On the off chance a Crossbow update becomes available and/or if it never materializes I'd like to know I can go back to the factory setting (so it looks legit to the installer or subsequent buyer). Therefore I'd like to back up my current ROM- it's about the only thing I didn't snag off of the ftp server before it went down.
Should I look at the tool they were talking about using if someone at 3GSM found a TyTN/Hermes running WM6 (the microsd rom grabber) or is there a better way?

I had a hard time to upgrade and modify my xda2 so I decided to make a small tutorial for everyone with the information’s I found on the forum. It’s not perfect but it could help.
Thank's to every one who made all this possible!!
Before starting I recommend every one to make a back-up of your rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4608
1- Extended Rom:
Your XDA2 has an Invisible Extended Rom in the device containing the operator’s configuration files and software.
Modifying it will allow you to customize the boot image and to choose the programs you wish to install during the setup of the device.
To show the extended rom on your device your need to apply this small hack and then open your file explorer:
http://www.ppcw.net/index.php?itemid=1638
2- Files contained in the Extend Rom:
Broadcast_WWE.sa.CAB:
Seems to only set the CellBroadcast setting to enabled or disabled. (I guess this refers to the Reception of News via SMS by selecting channels of interested. Quite expensive I think and only interesting for phones that do not have any other capabilities of receiving and displaying information).
T-Mobile NL sets it on, with O2 it's switched off.
CallerIDRC11_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB:
Installs the CallerID application from IA Style and the Photo Contacts extension. There are other programs that are able to provide this functionality but I use it.
CameraRC131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB:
The camera application for taking pictures and recording videos. AFAIK there is currently no alternative to this one, you should leave it in your ROM.
GPRSMonitor_WWE.sa.CAB:
Includes the GPRS Monitor from SPB Soft. Very useful I would recommend it unless you aren't going to use GPRS anyway.
MIDI56.sa.CAB:
RingTone plugin player. Allow you to play back RingTones in the following formats: mid,3gp,mp4. Also seems to register the audio/midi MIME type for playback of midi files directly from Internet Explorer.
By default the XDA can play back only wav and wma audio files (AFAIK)
MMS1507_WWE.sa.CAB:
Installs the Arcsoft MMS application for composing and sending MMS messages.
VideoMMS.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Installs the "Video MMS.exe" file into the Windows folder. When you start it you are in camera mode immediately and after you have recorded a picture or video you get into MMS composition mode.
This seems to be just an easier way to compose MMS messages since the main MMS Application (see above) is already able to compose MMS messages.
OEM_AKU1_WWE_4AP.sa.CAB (named OEM_4AP_WWE.CAB in Qtek ROM)
Installs the following files: GPRSAuthentication.exe, BTSetting.exe, STK.exe and WModem.exe
I am not sure if these are customized versions or if the normal ROM doesn't contain them. Well perhaps not because these are specific to the Phone edition so they can't be present in the main ROM, maybe they are contained in the Radio ROM, but probably they are only contained here, meaning you shouldn't remove this cab file.
OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB (named OEM_WWE_03122301.sa.CAB in Qtek ROM)
Installs files for Bluetooth: AudioGW.dll, BthASPlugIn.dll, rilgsm.dll, Serial3.dll and Wavedev.dll. Also contains the new feature of mapping a (dynamic) serial port for BT.
I think you should not remove it.
TM_phone_class10.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Installs several registry settings regarding phone functionality. (See my other post regarding this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5539)
TMCOMREG.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Contains some of the settings contained in the previous one anyway. I'm not sure if it does anything else but I don't think so.
TMD_AP_NL.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Implements several settings specific to T-Mobile (NL): Restricts video types for MMS. Adds connection and gateway settings for MMS connection via T-Mobile NL. Adds a T-Mobile profile to GPRS Monitor.
I would not install this cab unless you live in NL!
TMD_NL.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Sets the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\3rdversion\MSYSTEM1 value to the provider name.
Not required!
TMDNLCustomize.sa.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Adjusts all the "theming" stuff: Changes colors, installs Today-theme, installs T-Mobile Dialpad, sets T-Mobile ringtone.
If you don't like you xda2 look like a pink pig you should leave this out.
(You can extract single items from the cab file if you like)
t-mobile_shortcuts_only(UK).PPC2002_ARM.CAB (not contained in Qtek):
Contains some strange things that seem to me rather useless: "WebDisplayText t-zones", "T-Mobile Resetter.exe", "T-Mobile PIE Launcher.exe", "TMobileWebToday.dll", "T-Mobile Homepage Plugin".
I wouldn't install this one!
Version_AKU1.sa.CAB (Version_AKU1_160.sa.CAB in Qtek):
Seems to only set the version number of the extended ROM in the registry.
3- Modifying and editing your Extended Rom:
Most of the latest XDA2 have a write protected Extended Rom
A) For NOT Write Protected Extended Rom:
If your XDA2 Extended Rom is not write protected just add the new files you want, you can find on the forum many different extend rom files (O2, T_Mobile, Orange) and kitchen your own extended Rom by adding the cab files directly in the Extended_rom directory and soft reset.
B) For Write Protected Extended Rom:
The only way for the moment (until we find a way to make the rom writable) is to use the upgrade programs used by the operators and ER2003Edit program.
1)- Download
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip
or
http://www.clubimate.com/Support/ruu113sku1.zip
2) Simply unpack the complete T-Mobile Rom update file (it's a zipped EXE) into a folder.
There you will find these 6 files:
- HimaClearJumpCode.exe
- HimaGetDeviceData.exe
- HimaUpgradeUt.exe
- ms_.nbf <----- this is the file which holds Ext Rom!
- NK.nbf (main rom)
- Radio_.nbf (radio rom)
3) Delete the other *.nbf files to prevent updating the full XDA2/MDA2 rom. You only need "ms_.nbf" and the "*.exe" files!
4) Now modify the ms_.nbf with the tool softworkz kindly provided.
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/ER2003Edit
5) After this, install the modified ext-rom to your XDA2/MDA2 by starting "HimaUpgradeUt.exe" and follow the instructions!
6) If you get a country code error during the install you will need to modify the country code included in the ms_.nbf file
- Download xda2nbftool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=5563
- Put xda2nbftool.exe in the same folder as your ms_.nbf file
- Run xda2nbftool.exe from Command Prompt and type the following command
xda2nbftool.exe -so O2 -v ms_.nbf
Replace O2 by your operator’s name (ex: orange, O2 etc)
It should now work!
cheers,
Yann
nice one Yann
Thanks
I had a go at doing the "if your extended rom is protected"
I down loaded the file
1)- Download
http://www.c1au.com/iMatePDAROMS/ruu15283.zip
and accidentally ran it.... I know I was stupid... I now have an I-Mate instead of a XDA - O2. Please help can I get the O2 back is there a programme that does the same as the one I just have used. It has changed every thing the radio stack, the other bits of software, I am just pleased it still works of calls.
I couldn’t find the indivuiual HimaUpgradeUt.exe programme any ware.
Please help I am really stuck at the minute!!
The bit I didn’t understand was the bit about unpack the exe. Which I now understand how to do. Although I have upgraded to Rom 1.52.00wwe, radio version 1.06.01, I can haply say I have the original O2 rom back in place with additional programmes installed in the Ex-Rom. I had a fair bit of space so I popped some music files in as well!!!!
Thanks for all the help!!!!
thanks yann for the perfect summary
as newby i needed something clear like this to dare my first rom changes, and i successfully did!
it would be even more perfect if also somehow the program settings/passwords could be cooked in/restored from the extended rom. i searched the forum but could not find any hints.
Are there methods for this ?
Perhaps a silly question, but I'm fairly conservative when it comes to messing around with my device.
How do you find out or know if your Ext ROM is write protected or not? I know that I can add applications to my Ext ROM and it does not seem like I should be able to do that if it's write protected, but then again I'm not sure if this matters.
Ed
ed, if you can copy files to your ext-rom via activesync, it is per definition not write-protected.
your not that conservative, because you already run a tool or edited the registry to be able to see the ext-rom
ronald,
Well I guess you are right I do like to play around, as I get more comfortable doing so. It is this Forum, guys like you, and some other forums that have made this possible for me to do. For some reason I'm more comfortable in general hacking around a desktop pc than a PPC.
I thought my Ext ROM must not be write protected. When I deleted the TMD files, described here as useless, I got the message that they were read only, but they did go away from the Ext ROM Folder. I do not notice a big difference, however, nor did it free up that much memory. I was thinking that I might need to do more then this. Do I?
So basically, if my Ext ROM is not right protected, and I have been already loading programs into the Ext ROM, I’m pretty much at the place people are trying to get with the Ext ROM Cook ER...Edit. Is that correct or am I missing something here?
Ed
Ed,
I do not like flashing rom (or bios) on either my desktop or PDA (if not absolute sure to fix bugs). However flashing the PDA's ext-rom can basically not screw up the PDA because you don't touch the OS, so I flashed the ext-rom to get familiar with the PDA flashing in general (and also to have a restore of my standard used software after a hard-reset).
About your ext-rom; I do not recognise your situation. I would say if it is read-only the file will not disappear (like with my PDA).
I did notice while editing the ext-rom file for flashing that the file is fixed ~16MB, regardless of which cab's are included or deleted.
Maybe this is the same effect that you see when deleting the file in the ext-rom ???????? (although I can imagine both effects have no relation)

Camera Programs
Okay,
I made a custom ROM with the following programs:
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CameraRC131_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\CallerIDRC11_WWE_1.5.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MMS1507_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\GPRSMonitor_WWE.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Version_AKU1.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_AKU1_WWE_4AP.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\OEM_WWE_03120301.sa.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\VideoMMS.sa.CAB
Awesome, alot less bloat, but.... Camera doesn't work.. Application says Camera is not a valid Pocket PC application. :: grumble ::
Did I miss something?? Camera.exe is there, but doesn't work
Brandon
My Ext ROM is not write protected, and I'm able to run applications in the EXT ROM Folder. I deleted the 2 TMD and the T-Mobile cab files, but I have not nticed a big difference, nor is my GPRS back to always on, which it should be now.
Perhaps the device requires another hard reset without these cab files in place prior to the changes taking actual effect. Does anyone know if my assumption is accurate about the required hard reset?
Ed
what dictates if the ExtROM is write protected or not? is it the version? or the hardware itself? or a mix of the version with the OS checks?
cuz i believe the ROM version is dictated by the version_AKU1.sa.cab. does that mean we can hack the cab (or use a diff version) to disable the write protection?
i'm using a himalaya btw.
I have a question or two.
I'd also like to know if it is possible to modify CAB files so they install an application and then also put in your purchased key or serial depending on the application so it's already registered to yourself. It seems like it must be possible because the GPRS Monitor on the T-Mobile Extended ROM is already Registered when you try and register it yet I was under the impression it normally has to have a key entered to turn it into the full version with no limits.
This would be great if this was possible, if it's a key file then it's simple to copy it over but how about automatic registry entries? Are these done similar to Windows .reg files? Does anyone have any info if a .reg file can be make and run from the Extended ROM to make changes to the registry? This would also allow me to key in a few other things I'd like presetup.
Is there a way to see what registry changes a CAB file makes other than from purchasing MagicCAB? Is there a free program like this? It seems like a reasonable program from the info but I don't want to spend 10 dollars on a program I might only use once or twice.
Acutally, one more while I'm here. Does anyone have a CAB installation version of CabInstl which puts a shortcut in the Programs or an easy way for me to make that? I've set it up so it will copy the EXE in manually along with a shortcut but I've yet to try it. I think it should work OK I imagine, just might be neater and have an uninstall if it's in a CAB format?
Can you delete files from the extended ROM script? Just so I can clear out a few folders of things I don't want in there when I do a hard reset?
Thanks for all your help. I'm looking forward to making a super kick ass Extended ROM for myself, I'm half way there
Updating the indirect way
Had a few problems with the updating process... and thought i would explain how I got around them!
First I updated to the standard 16007DE ROM
Then I installed the Extended Rom Viewer, and then because it is protected, i copied the contents to my HDD.
Then i tried to open the Rom update from T-mobile with the Extended ROM editor, but kept on getting file access errors The only one i could open was the NL 13006 version. So I changed the splash screen, deleted the origianl contents, and then inserted the contents from my updated original Extended ROM, as well as a few other bits that i could find, IE the extended ROM viewer. It is updating at the moment, So I hope it all works.
I have a few questions though!
Does anyone know a way in which I can automatically install a few themes, and a few ringtones? I have a few MIDI files that i want to be installed into the windows\rings folder, and the themes need to go in a folder called themes in My Documents. I also wanted to ask if there is a way to extract the CAB from another program, for instance Voice Commander. It is an MSI, but only works in windows!!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Is this going to work:
- Download ER2003Edit
- Download the O2 XDA2 ROM 1.60.50
- Download the T-Mobile MDA2 ROM 1.60.36
- Remove O2 apps i don't want to use
- Add applications from T-mobile rom which i want to use
- Change ROM provider from O2 rom to to T-Mobile
- Save new O2 ROM and upgrade
But... I want to add custom ring tones to contacts, and if possible also want to add custom picture. Also my camera must be able to work. Which software do i need for this?
Because.. All i want to upgrade is today theme to O2's and also the software to 1.60.50... Does the O2 rom also has an "TMDNLCustomize.sa.CAB" ?
Greek full support language for qtek 2020

Also there any newer version than the 1.66.00 wwe extended1.66.130 radio 1.10.00 wihich my qtek 2020 has??
best regards

A) For NOT Write Protected Extended Rom:
If your XDA2 Extended Rom is not write protected just add the new files you want, you can find on the forum many different extend rom files (O2, T_Mobile, Orange) and kitchen your own extended Rom by adding the cab files directly in the Extended_rom directory and soft reset.
B) For Write Protected Extended Rom:
The only way for the moment (until we find a way to make the rom writable) is to use the upgrade programs used by the operators and ER2003Edit program.

2 questions for you,
1. how do i know whether my rom is the editable 1 or the non editable one?
2. I tried option A, just mergly adding the CAB files into the EXTROM but... when the hard reset was perform it did not install the CAB files i added in? what could be the prob i know there is a "autorun.exe" in it but i dunno whether will it affect the process. I also notice a "config.txt" in the extrom, tried editing it but it seems that nothing happen
Reason for adding the cab files is because i was using a 1.72.00 rom with radio stack 1.12 but intend to change it to radio stack 1.14 and also try cooking up my own rom in the ktchen but after doin so its like nothing happen. need some advice for cooking roms in the kitchen been searching the forum... found a few but its all talking about Linux platform.
Hi Kelvin,
1)
The way to know if your rom is not writ protected is if you see a folder called extended_rom in the root of XDAII and if you can add files in it.
If not, there’s a nice tool to make the extended_rom visible and to make it writable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8422&highlight=extended+rom+hide
2) The config.txt is made to lunch the programs in the extended rom when you hard reset the XDA or when it starts for the first time.
You just need to put the cab files in your extended_rom folder and edit the config.txt this way:
Exemple:
I added the cab file vxIPConfig.ppc3_arm.CAB in the folder extended_rom
and added this line in config.txt
CAB: \Extended_ROM\vxIPConfig.ppc3_arm.CAB
Cheers,
Yann
hi yann,
i tried doing that way as i figured out that config is like a startup "prg" to actually start the programs installing when hard reset is performed. But the thing is i cannot make the programs i added in the install after the hard reset is perform. I don't know why but the rest of the cab files can be done. Do adding of all this cab files into the ROM consider cooking ROM??? not really fimilar with the terms of cooking ROM unless that is the way.
hello,
Would anybody be so kind to give a step by step manual of switching from t-mobile 1.60 to qtek 1.66 please?
please note: i have no idea what i need to do with those passwords, neither with what it says on this link:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/HimalayaRomFlashing
Much too complicated for me...
Isn't there a different way to upgrade to a different ROM?
thanks for your help.
John
Why would you want to do this? To get QTEK features instead of T-mobile? If so, there is a much easier way than flashing...
1. Unhide/Unlock your extended rom (see front page of site in top news article).
2. Remove all of the files from your extended ROM
3. Get a copy of the New Extended Rom files you want. This forum tells how to do that.
4. Copy them into the extended rom area of the device.
5. Hard Reset -- you are done.
You never touched the Radio Stack, the Main OS, and did not have to flash, which is much safer way of upgrading / changing.
Make sure you copied all of the files from the new EXT ROM, not just the CAB files (but you can delete the odd CAB file if you know which one and why you want to do it)
Dear Fellas,
Where can I get a step by step ROM upgrade instruction to upgrade/flash my XDA II into WM2003SE? I have been through the forum, but still can not find a basic guide to do the upgrade.
I have downloaded "Customized_WM2003SE_Asian_Edition_Version2.zip" from ZeroXtreme. What can I do with this file? How can I start it?
Anyone can help me pleaseeee.......Thanks a lot.
Rgds,

Ahoy there matey!
this is what you do:
1. decide on what version you want to use.
2. get them roms. (E.g. read through DCS's post on the ORIGINAL WMSE)
currently there are three versions of the WMSE namely 2.02,2.06, and 2.20.
3. check your device data for language and operator:
use getdevicedata.exe from the upgrade files, copy it to your device's windows directory, then tap on it.... it will produce a log file, copy the log file to your desktop pc, then use notepad.exe to view it.
look for the language setting e.g. WWE, CHT... etc.
look for operator settings e.g. O2, Qtek... etc.
now check your downloaded NK.nbf, MS.nbf and radio.nbf to see if they have the same settings as your device..... you can use ER2003edit.exe which can be downloaded from wiki.xda-developers.com.
if the files have the same settings, thats good... if not... change it so that they would be the same as your device.... better yet use DCS's batch file for easier conversion... (note, DCS's 2.02 rom is set to WWE,O2)
now... assuming you had made all the preparations... (language, operator settings, and that you have a complete set of roms e.g. NK.nbf, MS.nbf and radio.nbf)
put them all in one directory along with the other files that came with the upgrade package.
make sure you have a full battery before proceeding with the upgrade.
plug the charger to tha cradle and the cradle to the comnputer.
click on himalaya upgrade program.... then the program will run, put the device in the cradle and watch the screen for further instructions
goodluck...
be sure to read on DCS's post regarding upgrades for a more detailed info.
assuming everything goes well; during the upgrade do NOT take out the unit from the cradle; go watch tv or something...if you receive an error message; don't fret. the forum hosts a lot of topics on how to revive your unit...
and if your xda dies during the upgrade; make sure your tray tables are in their upright position, put your head between your legs and kiss your arse goodbye
what do guys suggest the ROM i use?
which one is the most stable?
mate, i noticed that you're from the philippines. i'm based in thailand i used the rom posted by zeroextreme; it's the wm2003 se asian rom. pretty stable that one; after upgrading my unit's power consumption improved noticeably. although as expected some apps may not display well when using landscape mode (those're the apps not designed for wm2003 use). but overall the rom upgrade was well worth it. stable and no hick ups; been using it for more than 2 weeks now i think.
others may have useful tips on the other roms they used for upgrading; not to mention experiences.
cheers
acid.... try 2.02.t1 they say its more stable than 2.06.
thanks mga kababayan!

Hi Z-Man,
Thanks for your response. But still do not understand in some areas
I just got MS.nbf and some *.CAB files from the extended ROM of ZeroXtreme. There are no NK.nbf and Radio.nbf. Is it because it's an Extended ROM? Where can I get the "non-extended" ROM?
And I don't really understand on DCS's post.
Sorry, I am really really newbie.....
Many thanks.
Rgds,
Fendie
ms.nbf is the extended ROM, you still need to get the radio.nbf and nk.nbf
download the file here:
HIMALAYA_WM2003SE.zip and Operator update.zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=13588
extract all files to one directory... and add the ms.nbf that you have
you didnt mention the operator and languange settings of your device... check your device info....
then use DCS's batch file to convert the settings.... by default, DCS uses WWE and O2.
make sure all the nbf's are set to the same settings...
then begin upgrade
Himalya Romkitchen is still valid for SE
Ok gang i have been lurking around for a while and im finally deciding to upgrade my phone. for my short background, i have done this on my old magician (once) and a friends t-mobile magician (once) as well, but now i want all the new gadgets and speed for my hermes. for the record i am currently a Cingular/ATT customer living in Orlando, FL where there is great 3G coverage.
here is what i have:
herm100
ipl 1.01
spl 1.06
ROM version 1.34.502.1
ROM date 09/21/06
Radio version 1.16.00.00
Protocol version 32.53.70.18.01H (i am not sure what this one means though...)
here is what i am planning to do (in the exact order of which i will run them so if my order isnt right please tell me):
HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a
Hard-SPL-V7.rar package
HERM_Radinly_1.43.00.00_CustomRUU.rar (unless anyone thinks the 46 or 47 version would be better for ATT in my area)
Hermes_WM6_WWE_vp3G_v2.0_ATT.rar
CVSD_1.2_061226.rar
HomePlugIn_1.6.0.0.rar
vp3G_v2.0_CommManager.rar *edit* (yes i know the comm manager must be closed for this one too) *edit*
vp3G_v2.0_StreamingMedia_PATCH.rar
XM_Radio.rar (may install this later)
MobiTV .rar (may install this later)
TCPMP_v0.72RC1.exe
ac3.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
flac.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
ffmpeg.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
vorbislq.plugin.0.72RC1.rar
and that should be it i hope!!!! also, i think i remember needing a codec to play xvids through tcpmp but i cannot find anything that i have archived on my computer... so if anyone has that please let me know.
if there are any other precautionary measures that i can take PLEASE let me know. i 'somewhat' understand how the hardspl works, is that the only protection i have? should i clear up my phones memory? i doubt there is anything like a 'scandisk' or anything for the type of memory the phone uses but i just want to be 1000000% sure that this flash will be successful thats all. thanks guys up front for a great community and any help is GREATLY appreciated.
yeah, do HardSPLv7 first... Then do the Unlocker... then do whatever you want.

No do the unlocker first...it loads HardSPL (1.40.oli) onto the device....it will downgrade the SPL if you run it second.
Once that is done...load HardSPLv7 onto it.
Then follow the list you said.
great!! i just wanted to verify that my particular build (i know there are herm100, 200 and 300 now) would fit the bill.
few more quick q's...
if i ever wish to, can this phone be put back to factory settings and be completely untraceable, or am i making permanent changes to the spl?
also as far as i am aware, overclocking is not available (hopefully i can use the word 'yet' here ) for my device is this correct?
lastly- without outlook (on my computer), is there any way to back up my contacts. not just the sim card, i mean email addresses and everything? i am sure there are some encrypted files somewhere on the device that i can just manually copy and paste when i am done.
and after that, ill be flashing it all over and post the results.. and thanks both of you for the quick responses!!! i will do the unlocker first, thanks for deterring me from that hiccup

OK.....i will answer these qs but you do need to read the wiki so you DEFINATLY understand the different aspects of the hermes...
The device can be downgraded to normal (like factory settings)....see the guides in my sig for more info.
Overclocking....dont even bother...the restriction is in the ROM....later ROMs use the cpu much better.
If you want to backup contacts etc...either use PIMBackup (search this forum for it) or get an exchange account which will sync contacts/emails/tasks etc..
the IPL is still 1.01, can this be upgraded or does it not make a difference?
ok i am trying to run Hard-SPL-V7...
when i run the file 'RUUWrapper' on my mobile device i get this message:
"File or assembly nme 'System, Version 2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=B77A5C561934E089,' or one of its dependancies, was not found."
I just installed microsoft.net framework 2.0
from what the previous screens told me, the SIM and CID unlock was successful and my current IPL is 1.4 from using the programs in 'HTC_Hermes_SIM_CID_Unlock_v3a.rar'
please help!!!!!
**edit**
Sorry, that is when i try to run it from the phone itself. when i run it on the computer it says 'The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application.

You need to install ALL the latest .net framework packages from Microsoft on your PC, the file is meant to run on your pc NOT your hermes.
you guys are the best and so is this site!!!
last question...
i downloaded the 'vp3G's WM6 v2.0' ROM and added the patch for 'vp3G_v2.0_StreamingMedia_PATCH.cab ' but i still cannot watch videos on youtube or any site of the likes? the page gives me an error saying 'Hello, you either have Javascript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player.'
i cannot find java or macromedia that works on windows mobile... what can i use??? i am finding some stuff on javaME but nothing i can comprehend or download...
lol, when I tried to do the Unlocker first it temp-bricked my phone.. I had to reflash old rom, then run hardspl then the unlocker in that order.
Use google and search for 'Flash Player for Pocket PC'
it will give you the link to Adobe Flash Player
I allreyd flashed a lot and did use a soft spl, but I do not find a proper
explanation what it is.
So, i Think it is the Bootloader ?
Can anyone tell me what a soft and a hard SPL is and does ?
For what do I need it ?
I just got my new Touch Pro bought in UK and now it is here in Germany and I want a german ROM on it as soon as it is available.

Yep your right on that assumption sir The bootloader does alot of the low level handling of the startup process when you power on the device aswell as handling the process when you flash anything to the device...im sure its far more technical than that but thats a starter explanation Essentially you NEED a bootloader for the device to work at all, the case with many of the HTC devices...other devices are different most likely.
Soft SPL: (normally referred to as SSPL) IS loaded into RAM and allows you to perform some of the operations the standard bootloader would do, naturally with some extra functionality (explained later)
HardSPL: Same sort of thing except it is flashed to the device permenantly, so it replaces the HTC bootloader in your devices flash memory.
Both of these tend to safeguard against corrupting the device by having some fancy workarounds and updates to the processes built into the HTC SPL, and the best part is that they allow you to flash ANY ROM you wish therefor allowing us to use Cooked ROMs and various updates like radio updates and etc...frees the device up quite superbly.

Perhaps some mebers feel like adding a general HardSPL page to the wiki for FAQs like this to be answered better than "Search the forum.." since we know its not that good for finding anything.
The Wiki is there for everyone to use and edit so, learn and pass it on
Just a quick question, does any of this interfere with HTC released updated ROMs? Like, when they release a new version on their site, does having HardSPL prevent you from updating?
Hello !
Thank you for your advise.
One more question:
Should I install Hard or Soft SPL ?
I want to try out many ROMS - I think Hard is better, what do you mean ?
Thank you for your help
By the way:
I am a kind of technican - working in IT for nearly 18 years starting fron Novell, Banyan Vines and DOS up to Windows Vista. Also I am a kind of apple Guru, thats why I have certainly an iPhone 2G and 3G.
For business I use HTC devices sind the first MDA. But I lost track a little sind iPhone.
As I am a technic nerc I sstarted with th the Diamond touch again and I liked the device but i swapped this week to the touch pro because of the keyboard, SD Slot an flash light. I love this device.
By the way I also have the new Samsung Omnia 900 here and an unfun Nokia E71 ( I hate this old symbian - looks like last centuty )
So good night and thank you

no, raphael hardspl is unsigned, means any rom is allowed, including HTC official roms.

you can only install hardspl. the job of soft spl is to install hardspl.
do not ever try any of the following:
- with SSPL, do not flash anything other than the included SPL NBH files. as extra protection the diamond and raphael SSPL's require htchacker sign (except the version jocky edited) and will reject anything that's not an SPL.
- and do not ever try to flash SSPL as an NBH, especially if it is a diamond or raphael.
Im sorry to disagree with your "don't tell me to use the Wiki".
But this is a fairly comprehensive answer to your question: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions? straight out the wiki.

There are several things.
UC is short for User Customisation; it is in all the Kaiser ROM's nowadays. l3v5y's Raph ROMs also have it.
Links: l3v5y's ROMs & Main UC Thread.
I use UC to install programs, Provisioning XML (as part of UC) to change registry settings, my xcopyce application to copy folders and active sync to copy contacts, calender etc.

Ok, thanks. Seems very complicated. Having to write XML files and such.
when running RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe, it says all information will be lost on my device. Are you sure i dont lose everything when installing Hard-SPL?

I can't say. I haven't done it, what says you will lose all the info, the RUU or the thread? If it's the RUU, then you should be OK, it's probably the standard message that the proper RUU (used for carrier ROM upgrades) has.
UC is good, takes maybe an hour or two to get setup, but once done, you don't have to do it again and it makes flashing so much fun. I started with just installing CAB's and Copying files, then went onto ProvXML for my registry settings next. The latest version of Schap's Advanced Config (3.0) can export tweaks into a Prov XML file for you. It is worth it if you flash your ROM as often as I do.

I do love this kind of stuff. Any new gadget i get, i like to do this kinda stuff with it. But its a little overwhelming in this case .
So, using UC, i can set it up so that my settings, such as email accounts, wifi networks + passes, notify settings, etc, as well as all the programs are restored after a ROM flash?
To do this i have to manually go through my registry to find the entries for each of these settings though? No way to just extract my current unflashed devices settings to a file that the new ROMs then use? That would be nice

We are getting a little off topic of the OP now but...
Any tweaks done with schaps Advanced Config can be easiler exported using a "export" menu option.
If you export your registry after flashing, and again after you have all your settings setup right, you can Diff then using a Diff Program and copy the changes into your ProvXML file. Most PPC Regedit programs can export.
Any more on UC, I'd have a read of the UC thread and ask any questions in there. Myself and l3v5y keep and eye on it most of the time and should be able to help fairly quickly.

Is it possible to use those backup softwares? Like Spb Backup for example that say "ROM Upgrade Mode — now it's possible to restore data after the ROM upgrade"? Instead of UC and such?
there is a IPL initial program loader (sort of bios)
a SPL secondary program loader (kinda like the ntloader)
and there is a service mode (3 color screen) (the flashprog)
then we have a RUU remote unit upgrader
mft masterfile table
mbr master boot record
and some other shizzle
the device switches the output of the internal usb when device is in 3 colorscreen to a service mode which allows it to overwrite the internal flashdrive .. pretty neat as what it actually does is switching to an internal flashprogrammer which programs the internal flashdrive. this is the same process as is used for your pc at home to update the bios.
the CID celloperator identification code (used for blocking certain rom upgrades)
enjoy..
Soft SPL quesiton
I have a SPV M700 and it's unlocked. I want to install Schaps rom. I have the folowing SPL version 1.07.000. I have't managed to install hard spl. Can I use soft spl to flash it? Can I permanently brake it?
