Hey guys,
just received a letter from Softbank containing a 128MB MicroSD.
The letter included said, this Card is to be used to update to the new rom, which we all know by now.
upon checking the contents of the rom. The files used to upgrade seem to be hidden. 32.6MB free memory is left which leaves about 87.6MB for the rom files and (possibly) the update routine.
Anything we can do with this? How can i get the hidden files to show up.
PS...there is no claim for the MicroSD, so i guess i dont have to send it back.
pop it in your memory reader
i haven't tried this but it may work... put in sd adapter read it on the pc using your memory card reader. you may reformat it.
EDIT 12/17: ooops sorry... heheheee... i meant you may see the file using windows explorer... you may reformat it if you want, too.. you may do whatever you want...
that's what i meant... actually you can also see it using resco explorer on the device..

@aquasesh: great info, probably we can extract something useful from here
If you have Linux, assuming /dev/sda is the device pointing to your SD card reader, and /tmp/sd.img is the sd card image file, you can extract it with this command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/sda of=/tmp/sd.img
It will be saved in RAW format in file /tmp/sd.img.
In windows you can use dd for windows, I have never used it so I don't know exactly how it works... but should be similar:
Code:
dd --list
dd if=\\?\Device\xxxxxx\ of=sd.img
Good luck extracting it and be sure to post it to ftp after!

ok, keep us updated and feel free to ask if you run into problems.... also write-protect the SD card when doing this, just in case
thanks...and i just ran into a problem...cannot find my SD Adapter...
is there any way i can run Hermes in mass storage mode??

Download WM5Torage, for it to work in hermes you MUST go to Start -> settings -> connections -> USB to PC and UNCHECK the checkbox which says "Enable advanced network functionality". This has to be done prior to run WM5torage.
Good luck!
It is real slow...i cannot really tell if its doing it...no error msg, but also no progress indication... the file generate will be called hermes.img
and it is in its destination folder, but still 0bytes.

Scratch that...just finished 121MB....whats the ftp?
Probably this is because of wm5torage not working properly... some people report that not works on their hermes, but it works ok on mine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277103
You don't have a microSD card adapter an a SD card reader? this should be better than hermes with wm5torage.
Also another possible way of raw-dumping sdcard is by using itsme psdread.exe:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=XdaUtils/psdread.exe
But you've to figure out yourself, i never used it.

OHhh cool
Ftp here:
ftp://xdaupload:[email protected]/Uploads/Hermes/
USER: xdaupload
PASS: xda
Its on its way...its an img file...hope it contains something useful
25min upload time
Received the letter today.
I thought it was just a free gift at the beginning.
After finished reading the letter, I realized it's softbank's trick
I can see the update file both in Windows Explorer through ActiveSync and in Total Commander CE.
filename: HERMIMG.NBH
size: 87.5 MB (91,809,478 Bytes)
if aquasesh fails uploading, maybe I can try later.
upload complete...
quiet funny..its also my 100th post...
I think HERMIMG.NBH in the MicroSD from Softbank is the same as hermimg_VODAKK_1.33.761.4_Ship.nbh. I got it unpacked RUU_X01HT_1.33.761.4_1.14.00.10.exe.

I extracted your dump, apparently it's just a FAT32 filesystem with HERMIMG.nbh from X01HT 1.33.761.4 ROM. Nothing special then, just a way to force the users to update to the unlockable ROM
Moved the sd image here: ftp://xda:[email protected]/Hermes/Technical/Hermes.img

As my xda has been working perfectly for the past couple of months I've decided to knacker it for a while and try to load ppc 2003. Trying to use wallaby 5.14 to write ROM from xda to sd card it all goes well untill I put the card into my pc, it seems to think the sd card is blank and needs formatting, back in the xda its the same thing, as if wallaby is formatting it. Now I could just stop mucking around and wait for the proper 2003 version... nope, too simple. Anyone got any clues?
i hope you did not try top open your sd car with the windows explorer ?
you have to use a specific software to read oyur SDcar as explained her on the site in the rom image tool secion.
only XDArit will ba albe to read and writ a rom on the sdcard.
No, I used XDArit, it says card needs formatting.

if I have a 1 gb mini sd n I want 2 reformat it do I need a certain program 2 do so or what?
if you got a usb sd adaptor just use windows to format it... like you normally do a flash drive..
no I didn't get a usb adapter I got a sd adapter...maybe I can do something with that?...or maybe I can put it in the phone then format?...any help is appreciated...
What I think he was talking about was a usb card reader. You usually have to put your mini SD card in the SD adapter so you can put it in the card reader so your pc will read it. If I remember right, I think total commander will reformat your card for you while it's in the phone though.
where can I get total commander from?
Google for it, you should find it. Either that, or you could try looking in your start-->programs-->accessories folder. Most of the cooked ROM's here have been including it.

thanks alot! i will test it when i recieve my minisd in the mail
I just looked in TC and couldn't find a format feature. I don't need to format right now but I was checking the advice given here and am not sure it's right. Can someone point me to the right area of TC?
I apolgize, somewhere recently I read in one of the forums that I go through on a daily basis that total commander provided a format function and so I passed on the information believing it to be true. Apparently it wasn't. I went through total commander and also went to their website and found nothing even mentioned about reformatting an SD card. Again, I apologize for the misinformation. You'd think I'd learn to check out information before re-posting it.
well its the thought that counts...but a college of mine has a laptop with a slot 4 the sd card so i think i will b able to reformat there

you can format ur card in the phone using an app called pocket mechanic pro

Resco explorer
I have Resco Explorer (or whatever the name is). It has a format option. I tried it, but never worked. Was it a fake menu item? Then I formatted it in my laptop. I used FAT format and had to use full format option (takes hell lot of time) . The quick format option made the SD card unreadable in PPC.
Can I also use other formats with PPC? Like Fat32, NTFS?
accessories folder. Most of the cooked ROM's here have been including it.
great help!
I have a working CRC rom now, but when i started looking into flashing a lot of ppl were saying i should only flash off the sd card. well, it didn't work when i first tried it, and i thought i would enquire as to why this was.
i did everything as the faq/wiki said, i have got the latest Hard SPL on my phone, i renamed the file to HERMIMG.nbh, i held the necessary buttons in and clicked reset with the stylus and i didnt get that gray menu. all i got was the 4 color thing that normally comes up when flashing ROMs. I did manage to successfully flash by USB/Activesync, but as i said im curious to know what stopped it from working, and maybe learn how to do it right in time for CRCs next release
Are you sure that you extracted the .nbh from the archive and formatted the sd card to FAT32? I know you said you did everything; I'm just double checking
3. Extract the .NBH file from your preferred ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file.

Did you format the card fat32? This seems to be so simple most people overlook it and go to the 2nd step.
I've also found that I sometimes need to reformat my sd card (even though I flashed heaps of times with it) or it won't work.
Also you can only use up to a 2gb card to flash. The os will recognise a sdhc card but the bootloader won't...
Cheers...
i did format it to fat32, and i did rename it to that filename
i will try again soon and will report back, but for now i am happy with CRC 13
If the sd card is more than 2gb then it won't work also as the bootloader WILL NOT recognise an sdhc card...
Cheers...
No .NBH File
I think I am having the same issue, but I also think I know where the issue stems from.
CRC's files are in .7z format and the only file they seem to contain is the RUUWrapper.exe file and not also the RUU_signed.nbh file (the one that you should be renaming) that seem to be the standard of most other ROMs - unless I'm missing something.
I'm working from Linux (hence why I need the SD card option), just thought I'd throw that out there as an FYI in case it matters.

edit: meant to quote the post where it mentions formating to FAT32..
cyrxi, in windows you can use winrar to extract the .nbh file out of the .exe file. Not sure what you'd do in linux....
Sorry...
Is there a way to flash the Raphael without Windows, just by booting it into SPL and inserting a microSD with an image on it?
Why I'm asking? What, if a new ROM bricks the device in such way, that ActiveSync will no longer connect to it? RaphaelCustomRUU.exe will not work anymore.
If you have HardSPL you can flash from the SD card. I have flashed 6-7 custom roms on my TP and I haven't used the custom RUU for any of them.

I had this problem with ROMeOS v1.04, activesync just did not connect and no programs started, rebooting did not help. I already thought my phone to be brick!
Just press volume down and powerbutton to turn it on (should be off before of course) and you will end in the bootloader, flashing with RaphaelCustomRUU.exe works if the phone is on in bootloader mode and connected to computer. (thank god!)

Instructions would be nice if provided also....
I guess im the only one who cannot flash a ROMeOS rom from a SD-Card.
I've tried everything formatted the card to FAT32 renamed the .nbh to RAPHIMG.NBH tried caps and non caps. I even tried to format to regular FAT but still no go.
As you can see in my signature i have flashed Hard-SPL 1.90.OliNex
Mine are called RAPHIMG.nbh and they have to be in the root map of your SD, I do this with al the new ROM flashes, because I believe it's faster and you don't have the battery limit (which is there for good reason of course). So root map and there you won't see .nbh in the root map, just RAPHIMG. hope this helps

You need the nbh file extension. It just won't show if you have "Show File Extensions" turned off. If you use FileExplorer on PPC, you'll see RAPHIMG not RAPHIMG.nbh. (Check the file name in Windows or TotalCommander to be sure).
The file must be on the root of you SD Card and it should work, unless the OliNex HardSPL has some extra options / checks.

I already thought he meant the hide extensions thing but just to be sure
I've tried RAPHIMG.nbh but it doesn't work for my device.
I also own a Hermes and just flashed it the SD-Card way with HERMIMG.nbh and that device works perfectly, so it isn't a card problem.
Could it be an Hard-SPL thing then?

I've spoken with cmonex about this and there's no reason it shouldn't flash from the SD card. The code is in Olinex 1.90 to do it.
RAPHIMG.NBH on a FAT32 Formated Card and hey presto

Dave
I just tried it and it works. The file is named 'RAPHIMG.nbh' on the root of my storage card. Booted into bootloader mode and it instantly loads the nbh file.
Nice to know. So finally I do not have to boot Windows any more
I tried this for the first time just now, hadnt even thought to use the sd card, I usuallly go through all the hassle of using a vm just to flash.
File is named RAPHIMG.nbh on the root of the sd, restart holding vol- and thats it.

Could it depend on which ROM you flash? Because honestly i only tried to flash ROMeOS with SD-Card. I never tried to flash DCS or something else.
So many people with successful flashes with the SD so i'm almost sure i'm doing something wrong here.
I will try again a soon as a newer ROM comes out because i'm a bit tired flashing different ROMs
Thanks for all the support.
I was using ROMeOS v1.10. sd card is a sandisk 6gb. Its hard to see what could prevent it from working for you, hopefully something will turn up.
Ishould also note it is considerably faster flashing from sd than over usb.
Put your miniSD in a card reader and from Windows, right click it and select format. Choose fat32 and leave the volume label blank. If it automatically adds a name delete it before proceeding with the format. After it's formatted, place your RAPHIMG.nbh on the rott of the card. Enter bootloader by holding volume down and pressing reset and it will find the image file. From there follow the on screen instructions and it will be done in a few minutes.

It is indeed. It is:
1. Safer [Risk free if you ensure you have at least 50% of battery left.]
2. Faster [Way much faster.]
3. Windowsless [that's a blessing!]
Good luck.
Cheers.
I had problems too flashing hang.tuah's rom but only 1.05 it would flash but not boot up, i tried through 2 pcs and via flash card.
i couldn't flash by my actual card cause from what I read sdhc isn't necessarily supported in bootloader, so i borrowed a friends 2gb microsd and that worked with flashing.
Since there is a new version of ROMeOS i'm gonna try it again.
I'm going nuts over here
I renamed the ruu_signed.nbh to RAPHIMG.nbh and copied it to the root of a FAT32 formatted SanDisk 2GB Ultra II card (non-SDHC) and check it for errors.
When i insert the card and reset while pressing the volume down button to enter the bootloader, the device says "No Image File Found" and just stays in the bootloader
What am i doing wrong here??? It's no that a big deal because i can flash using the wrapper but it should also flash with the SD-Card.
I'm almost giving up here
If there are any more idea's bring em up
I copy the nueSPL 2.47 exe over to a 1 gig SD card. Run it and I get the msg that the card isn't formatted. I elect to have the program format for me and get a partition error.
I know that this just puts the TITAIMG.nbh file on the card so it will load in bootloader mode.
I've tried all I know and searched many threads looking for a solution. Perhaps it's the Kingston card I have but does anyone else have a suggestion, or if someone has the TITAIMG.nbh file already if they could post it up I would be most grateful.
I have Olipro 2.40 / 3.42.50 and dcd 3.2.6.
Thanks in advance..
Not sure if this is the problem, but I thought that the instructions said to copy the file to the phone's memory and run it from there.
Thanks for reply - I tried that no matter how I run it it won't format the card same error every time.

No it gets copied to the storage card and ran from there.....not all cards work though.....do you have a card reader on your PC?......if so format it through the PC.....otherwise I suggest getting another card...or if you have it use the card that came with the phone....

I know there must be another way to format your card from the pda. I was just about to check on freewareppc, when I remembered that I have no2chem's nuemassstorage installed on my device. it turns my pda/phone into a card reader. I actually formatted an sdcard the other day, cause I wanted to update the radio. check it out:
