CAB Install for Vodafone Connections Settings? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi,
I have a v1605 (HT645 supplied in the UK) which I have SuperCID'd, then updated to the Tytn 1.35 ROM, downgraded to SPL 1.04 and then installed the 1.20 Radio upgrade.
I am very happy with this setup now and have found it much more reliable than the Vodafone ROM.
I have been playing around with different ROMs and each time I have to manually setup all the settings in Connections for MyISP GPRS/3G, WAP, and Business Email for Vodafone UK contract.
Whilst I can do this each time successfully, does anyone know where the settings can be easily installed from the original Vodap001 ROM for the v1605. I have looked through the extended rom for this and that sets up most of the MMS Messaging and 3G icon, etc but not the Connections settings.
Is there a .cab that does this or am I just going to have to keep typing in these settings every time I change a ROM?
I have searched but see most people entering the settings manually so I guess I am asking for something that is not possible ..... but don't ask, don't get..... or otherwise learn!
Thanks
John

I don't know, but probably the cab file for connection settings is installed in \windows\preautorun.txt

Thanks pof, makes sense now, just wish I had looked before I started upgrading the ROm. I naively thought it was part of the extended ROM cabs.
Does anyone still have a Vodafone v1605 with the UK vodafone ROm installed. If so, it would be a great help if some could post the contents of preconfig.txt or preutorun.txt from the Windows folder. Otherwise I'll just have to wait until I get 3 hrs to go back to the original ROM and then go forward again to the HTC one.
Thanks if anyone has the file(s) otherwise no problem and I'll just have to convince the wife that another 3 hrs messing with the phone is actually fun!
Thanks
John

Upgrading Extended ROM with ER2003edit

Hi there,
I know, there is also a special thread regarding this issue, but my question is more general:
I want to upgrade the (write protected) Ext ROM of my XDA. As I do not have an upgrade tool from o2, I've downloaded the latest upgrade from T-Mobile Germany and followed Softworkz's instructions and made my own Extended ROM.
But now I am not sure, if it will be possible to flash my XDAII with the MDAII flash utility (will be flashing the ExtRom with o2 Files only). Do I need the original o2-Sofware to flash or can I take any HTCHimalaya-Software to flash my device?
Thanks for comments...
Bobopopo
Hi Bobopopo!
As stated here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6289 it's quite easy. You'll find a step-by-step How-To (in GERMAN!) here:
http://www.smartphone4u.de/xda2/tipps_tricks/extended_rom.html
And it works like a breeze! The only thing is that I don't know, whether your O2 xdaII will accept the T-Mobile ROM - but I don't see any reason why it shouldn't.
Only issue could be the Radio Stack Upgrade, but I have no problems at all with the T-Mobile Radio Stack in the O2 network.
Also I don't know of a way to backup your original ROM of the xda II - but maybe theres still the bootmanager way to back it up to an SD-Card!
Grüsse,
Klaas.
Finally flashed the ROM of my German XDAII with a German T-Mobile ROM (1.60). Has been no problem at all and I am impressed how easy it was (using ER2003edit). The only thing I have to work on is the homezone control, it is not working yet but not so important anyway.
I cooked my own ExtROM, but I think it will need some more improvement.
1. Is there any tool that further compresses the Extended ROM? (My ExtROM ist full but I would love to put some more programs inside)
2. My target is, that the XDAII will need about 5 minutes after a hard reset to install all the required software and get back the old settings. Will a backup with ActiveSync also remeber the favorits, connection settings, program settings aso.?
3. Is it possible to flash with the speed of USB 2.0? Until yet I have only tried with USB 1.1. (because I use a PCMCIA-card to provide USB 2.0 and the flashing manual says not to use an USB hub).
Thanks for some more tipps & tricks...

@bobopopo and @admiral_k
Hey, I see your are also O2 customers in germany and also have the
homezone feature of O2.
When you did the upgrade, you also upgraded the radio stack...
I think the homezone feature is linked to radio-stack, so Homezone-Control will not work with t-mobile radio-stack.
I see two options... leaving out the radio-stack upgrade or forget the homezone-control.
Could you please write your impressions if it's worth upgrading the radio-stack. Actually if have the homezone-control disable most of the time so I would not really care, but it's nice to know that i can check if I am in my homezone... ( really interessing if you surf the web via local dial-in numbers... )
regards
Alex
Until now I did not see any improvements on the Firmware of the XDAII, but the T-Mobile ROM is working fine...
Regarding the Homezone control, I am pretty sure that this has nothing to do with the radio stack (Reason: After upgrading the whole firmware, the Homezone has been indicated (after a softreset) and disappeared after the next softreset.
So I think the Homezone control is dependent on the Ext. ROM (that I cooked myself by taking some of the new T-Mobile Ext. ROM and some of the old o2 Ext. ROM). Maybe I just didn't find the right mix.
I'll post a solution as soon as I find one...
Hi guys!
I am in a simular situation, I hava MDA II with T-Mobile OS and a German O2 subscription.
I would like to add the auto config for O2, could this be done, if yes how specifically can this be done.

Change O2 UK XDA2 ROM to M1000 Dutch Orange ROM fails at 99%

Having found the excellent walk-through post on how to amend the nbf files so that the correct country code is set, allowing you to change ROMs to a none country ROM, I set about to try it.
And in fact, changing the files, and re-packing them, was not too bad.
Then I ran the upgrade program for the M1000 Orange Dutch (but WWE version) ROM, on my UK O2 XDA2.
And lo and behold, it no longer failed the country check, and proceeded to upgrade!
It managed to erase the current ROM no problem...
Then it started to install the new ROM...
And it got right up to a lovely 99%, and then hung for a while, before the installer program coming back with an Upgrade Failed error, and telling me to soft re-boot and try again.
Soft re-booting brought up the O2 'water' boot image, but with the ROM details etc re-written for the new verison 1.66 instead of 1.60 - but no backlight would come on, and it wouldn't get any further than this.
I had to go into Bootloader mode, to get it to try again.
And after three attempts, it ALWAYS fails at 99% of the ROM install.
So, does anyone have any ideas?
In the meantime, I am back to my O2 ROM, but I was led to beleive, from the tutorial, that ANY ROM could be used, as long as they were meant for a Himalaya device.
So, why does the Orange M1000 Dutch WWE 1.66 ROM, always fail at 99% when run on a UK O2 XDA2 1.60 WWE?
Anyone?
i think that other have don it without failure
could it be the file you downloaded which is a bit corrupt ?
try downloading it again
Sorry for the offtopic question but where did ya get the Orange Dutch rom?
I really would like to get that one...
Cheers
Panja
maybe dutch == danish
both starts with d and ends with h could be a mistake
from what i know the danish orange rom is the only one out yet but of cause i could be wrong
That would be the answer yes...
I am Dutch and check Orange once and a while and for as far as I know the m1000 isn't even released in Holland...
I just rang Orange because I can't get GPRS to work and I told them I have a XDA II, same as the m1000. But they couldn't help me because they don't have any settings for the m1000 yet...
Pretty g*y they couldn't help me
well what you need is really only access point
and depending on orange login and pass
Oops.
I meant Danish.
Second time I have done that this week.
Copenhaagen and Eindhoven - it's becuase they are so close together maybe *lol* ;-)
Rudegar, any ideas who the users were that got it to work, so I can ask them for the patched ROM files and try that?
m8
I got it to work!
Just download the update from the Danish Orange site.

I do what exactly?
If left as is, it won't work, as it fails the country check (er remember, it's a UK O2 XDA2 I'm trying to install it on here).
On the other hand, if I use xdatools to alter the nbf file, it allows me to run the install, but constantly fails the process at 99% of the first ROM install...
So, any ideas?
What device did you install it on?
i think he followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=8205
That's the very one I refer to earlier, that taught me how to change the country info.
The install fails on 99% though.
So Panja, have you got your extracted files to share if you put it on an XDA2 O2 as well?
Well I've downloaded the ROM upgrade again, and worked through the tutorial steps to change the device settings.
Can I just check something...
I currently have an O2 XDA2, and I am upgrading it with an Orange ROM.
When I enter the device settings, it IS "PH10 O2" I enter as the settings, NOT PH10 Orange, as I want the device to end up as it were. I do enter the device's EXISTING settings Panja, yes?
That's what I have done anyway - entered PH10 O2, so as I speak, it is busy wiping the ROM from the device, connected to my other PC.
I'll be sure to post back here if I manage to get past the 99% new ROM install this time, with a new ROM download, and a new attempt at altering the nbf files...
Wish me luck folks.
NEVER one to tempt the hand of fate, so I will start by saying it's not finished YET...
But it passed the ROM update ok, and now is onto the Extended ROM.
Keep wishing me luck folks...
Weh hey!
Nice new Orange XDA2, if I say so myself.
It looks a bit better, the proper Windows Mobile Boot Screen, than an O2 one, especially with an Orange SIM in...
So now I've saved the amended .nbf files on my PC, so that if needs be and a re-upgrade is needed, I can just run the installer, then delete the real nbf files and replace with my altered ones.
It's just busy doing a Sprite backup restore now - quality. Thanks everyone!
I'll repost back with my experiences of reliability and speed soon if I notice anything untoward...
Oh blast...
I've noticed something straight away...
The new implementation of Cleartype is TERRIBLE.
I can see blue edging to letters all over the place as it attempts to anti-aliase the font.
Previously with the O2 ROM and Cleartype, the letters were smooth, but black throughout...
I seriously think I will either have to forego using Cleartype, or do a ROM re-upgrade back to O2 at this rate.
Thanks for nothing Orange...
After all that, going back to O2 ROM.
Cleartype as per Orange's idea of it, is terrible. Blue all over black text, yellow on the white menu text, and sore eyes all round.
DOH
So now I have to go through it all over again to change the Country Code, to get the O2 ROM back on...
Great...
Sorry I couldn't help ya in time.
I'm sick @ home and didn't check the board till now...
Nice you got it finally to work.
Cheers
Panja,
Did you find the Cleartype as per the Orange ROM, to be unreadable, and full of colour cast?
Also, now that I have gone back to the O2 ROM becuase of the terrible Cleartype with the Orange ROM, do you know if you can just do an Upgrade whereby you only install the Orange EXTENDED ROM onto the O2 current ROM?
I have both ICQ and Messenger, if this is better for you...
I didnt use the cleartype on the Orange rom.
I swapped the Orange rom for the QTek rom.
Happy with the Qtek to be honist...

update to 1.72 ROM UK T-mobile version

after downloading this UK-version from http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=580 i was wondering how to savely store my local settings (ie my dutch t-Mobile connections etc.) and how to restore these settings after upgrading.
By the way? Is there a dutch version of pocketpc 2003?
http://wince-software.penreader.com/Language_Extender.html
which languages you can get CE in
about the settings i would prob just write them down on some paper
then you know it works
using different backup tools you can never be sure that when you restore you dont mess up the phone and have to do a hardreset and then the only way you can get your settings to finaly write them down on some paper is to downgrade to the other run and restore your backup to it
wouldnt it just help to only use the os and radio nbf files from an upgrade and use the extended rom from the operator you use, or leave your current extended rom untouched.
Since the network specific settings are (afaik) in the extended rom, once you hard-reset everything will be in place again.

Ok, I just upgraded the ROM. It did not work at once, but after starting the upgrade program for the second time it upgraded (I think it took about one hour). Everything works fine. The only thing I had to change was my GPRS-connection. Internet, pop3 e-mail, fax. It al works.
But in my previous version I had some icons in my today screen. telling me how long the battery would last. That thing is gone. Just like the GPRS-monitor.
Do you have the MDA II from T-MOBILE?
i have MDA II and want to upgrade the ROM in my device to.
is the ROM is WWE?
Thanks.

HER_ORRO_123702_1060400_WWE_SHIP.exe is the file name.
Update did not work
Hi all,
I just tried to use this update however it did not work. It said something about invalid operator?? It is an Orange M3100...
Any tips?
Dave
It is the WWE update from orange; if you have a bootloader >=1.06 it will only setup on a device having a CID matching ORANGE_001 or something like that. As far as I know there are different CID for each contry, an french device will have something like Orange_203 for CID.
Upgraded ok on an M3100. - Mine was unlocked with imei-check v3 so my CID was 0 anyway, but I suspect it would have been fine.
Versions are now:
Operator version: 14.123.10.702
ROM Version: 1.23.70.2
ROM Date: 08/14/06
Radio version: 1.06.04.00
Protocol version: 32.37.7010.01H
OS Build: 14955.2.3.0
It left my bootloader at version 1.04 (possibly this could be handy for people with M3100s who have tried to install an image with bootloader v1.06?)
Interestingly though it set my CID back to HTCSORANG001 and set my privilege level back to FF, however the phone remained SIM-unlocked. I switched to a T-Mobile SIM (I have a dual-sim adaptor) and it worked fine.
Re-run imei-check v3 and it set my CID to SuperCID and priv level to 0 again.
Seems fine so far. Of course it's only been up 10 mins....
I CANT SEEM TO FIND THE ROM!~~
any links
thanks
It's still in Hermes uploads. I don't feel confident enough in it just yet to update the wiki; let's get some confirmation that it's ok.
It appears to originate from Romania btw. When I installed it my regional settings were Romanian and the PIE favourites had Romanian sites in them. Seems to work fine in English though; I had to go hunting to figure out where it was from.
I've re-installed most of my stuff now. No apparent probs so far.
Ok got everything re-installed.
Syncing mail, calendar & contacts OK. PhoneAlarm working OK. Resco Explorer OK. Tried a couple of games OK. TomTom OK. Phone calls OK. Connected to GPRS & Wi-Fi OK. Browsed the internet ok. Java apps OK. Camera OK. Citrix apps OK.
Only difference I've noticed so far is it's been trying to connect to Orange GPRS in preference to Wi-Fi. I just deleted my Orange GPRS settings, since I use my T-Mobile sim for GPRS, so that's fixed.
Updated the Hermes Upgrading wiki, although link for file is to Hermes Uploads.
Pof, I think you can move the file to Shipped_Complete_Updates, when you're ready.
I can confirm that this Rom works an absolute treat. Does appear to be Romainian as the Time zone is set there.
Updated my phone several weeks ago to an Imate Rom, which worked ok but didn't really solve the problems I was having (namely bluetooth). Now have an Orange Rom again so at least I can get the phone swapped by Orange again if I ever knacker it.
Well done one and all for finding this Rom
Is it faster/more stable?
What other improvements?
Does it have MSN Messenger on it?
I can't really say I've noticed it being particularly faster. I seem to have less problems with my Dual-SIM adaptor, but that may be coincidence. Apart from that, it seems pretty much the same.
One hiccup to watch out for; the MMS settings default to using a Romanian server, so if you use this you may need to go to Inbox > Menu > Tools > Options > MMS > Servers and change the settings on the MMS server.
No MSN Messenger. I don't use this, but isn't there an install file for it floating around somewhere?
I had a play with IM, and Agile messenger or IM+ seemed quite good if I remember rightly.
couple of things with the rom:
i had it for 2 days then flashed teh imate telstra rom again due to :
1)the phone got hung several times a day , requiring soft resets
2)it went to sleep mode and didnt wake up by pressing the power button .. again had to soft reset
3)didnt work very with wizbar adv 2
so i went back to imate telstra rom which works flawlessly on my jasjam
also i had no problems like above with any of the other roms (tytn, dopod, cingular) only with this rom!!

You, discriminator! ...Kidding. Maybe this happens due to the fact that this ROM was meant to work on European networks. It might have some radio incompatibilities with the US networks. Try to separately install the latest Cingular radio (it is available on the xda ftp). I may be wrong about the above said, but in Romania this ROM works flawlessly...
yeah i guess so... will try later..
i used to love orange roms.. due to their very nice and easy to navigate today app..but man in this rom the background totally sucks!!!

The file is now on Shipped_Complete_Updates:

I also changed the wiki info because the CID was incorrect, it is ORANG008 (Orange Romania).

Help with a MDA Vario II

Hi everyone,my name's Larry and I just registered to the forums. Please forgive my newness but I am in a bit of a pickle here.
I have a MDA Vario II, aka Hermes 300, that I bought s/h off ebay. Works fine,no worries, but I upgraded to WM6 because i felt browsing was a little slow and the screen graphics werent as good as I expected. The upgrade was from the T-mobile site itself and all went fine. Only thing is I dont believe this phone can handle it(needs more RAM really) and after being online a while it gets really slow, like steerig a cow through treacle at times so I came to the conclusiong it was a bad move! Now I've noticed a link on here about downgrading to WM5 but is it that easy for one with no specialised tools or knowledge(tho i did build my own PC, or should I say ahem WE did)
Also a problem the phone has developed since the upgrade is it keep deleting my email settings, even tho on the 'desktop' screen it tells me i have so many unread emails in each account! So now i cant check emails from it either!
I do hope I can sort this out cos it is really frustrating having a PDA and not being able to browse properly!
Many thanks
Larry
Welcome to XDA-Developers larry. Well Firstly i would start with CID unlocking your device so that you can flash any rom you can do that by downloading hard spl from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
then once you have flashed that you can basically download and install any rom for the hermes. I have an mda vario ii and hate the t-mobile rom as it installs quite a bit of useless crap. I never use and it is also so damn ugly. if after installing a new rom you find you have internet connection problems and/or mms settings then download and run this http://rapidshare.com/files/92547562/UK_Setup.exe that will install the settings for internet and mms for all uk networks, the majority of the cooked roms on here though ,already have a network wizard to set it up for you, but better to be safe than sorry
P.S. I forgot to add if you are looking for speed and extra ram i would look for a vanilla(clean) rom, install that and then add the apps you want via cab files, you will find them scattered about all over this site

all your question answered here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I have looked thru the wiki and cannot find the advice I need.
My device has the following on it and what I would like to know is if I can actually drowngrade the device back to WM5.
The rom version is 3.60.110.4 (T-mobile UK)
The radio version is 1.50.00.00 so I assume that it is boot 0108.
The IPL is 1.04 and the SPL 2.03.
The protocol reads as follows 32.83.7020.20H
I have come across a guide that states if the radio is above 1.27.00.00 then downgrading may not be possible.
"(NOTE: If your radio version is currently HIGHER than 1.27.00.00 then it is very likely the radio bootloader is version 0108, this WILL NOT allow the radio to be downgraded to a radio containing BL 0106 and will result in a "NO GSM" error.)" -http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=41&Itemid=27
The other question I would like to ask is this - it is possible to put another verion of WM6 on with this radio version?
Thanks for any advice!
Can anyone help me here!
Do I need to SIM unlock my PDA to update the ROM to a custom ROM, for example Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.30 which I recently downloaded from here.
At the moment it is locked to T-mobile. I have also updated the SPL to 2.10 olipro and the radio is at 1.50.00.00 and the HTC boot is 0108.
Thanks guys

I think you might not have gotten help 'cause it doesn't look like you've read what people pointed for you to read. Hopefully this'll help you get over the jargon hump and make progress. Having upgraded from the Offical T-Moble rom and swapped ROMs, it's definitely worth taking the time to learn how to do.
SIM unlock & CID unlock aren't the same.
If you've had you phone with T-Mobile for at least 3 month they will let Unlock you SIM (at least they do in the US). Contact them directly, you'll need an active account & phone number with them. This is free.
CID unlocking allows flashing ROMs onto your PDA. For some reason the folks at T-mobile, etc want you to have to look at their stuff every time you use a machine you bought through them. Using a cooked rom is like reinstalling XP without having AOL on your computer, makes life much better.
(flashing = installing to a PDA's Read Only Memory)
(ROM = OS + Radio + other stuff = basically everything thats on the PDA after a hard reset)
Flashing can be a dangerous thing, you don't want to 'brick' your PDA so you install an escape hatch. Hard SPL is that escape hatch.
(Brick = peice of baked clay = your PDA if a ROM install fails and you didn't install Hard SPL first)
The Hard SPL protects you if the ROM you installs fails 'cause power went out, ROM was bad, you bumped the cable, etc

Thanks gt, and we have read advice on here but a lot of seems to be conflicting plus we seem to be just going round and round. Yep, ben there, yep read that etc.
I know the diff. between SIM and CID unlock but all I want to know is is it necessary to SIM unlock the phone to update a ROM?
I wont be using another network but will be staying with T-mobile W n W.
I did it!
Well I did it. flashed the phone with Schaps WM6 4.30 WWE.
Have noticed it runs faster than the previous T-Mobile WM6 and has some really neat features-you can adjust a lot more settings on the phone than before, quite impresed! Thanks for everyones help!
