Hi, im interested in buying this device on handset only , but only want to have this for the digital tv capability, is there any way of hacking so you can receive this for free, because i dont want to open up a new contract with virgin ... and i dont want to get pay and goand pay a fiver a month for it either..
anyone know the score on this??
Not enough people have the phonefor the hackers to be interested yet. Which is why we have no free unlock yet either.
BBC 1 is free on the phone for the foreseeable future.
TV is a bit crap though, DAB radio is much better and it is a decent smartphone for very little money.
been looking into this myself, trying to find where the tv subscription details are stored, but not much luck, managed to find the tv channel and radio station tiny images for the program, and changed channel 4 shortcuts to just the channel 4 logo, easiest way i found to do the tv for free on payg is using any old virgin sim cards (got about 4 a while back when they were free thru virgin site, so worth keeping ur eyes peeled for them, and when ur subscription runs out, chnange the sim to the other one, activate subscription for tv then swap back again, and then that will give u another 90 days free as it will be the first time its been registered for tv services, that will give u thirty days then swap again when that month subscription runs out, then again for another thirty then again for another thirty to the full 90, then try and get hold of another, and repeat again, meaning u will only need a sim every three months, the spare sim fits perfectly inside the back cover of phone too so can be left in there until needed, that will work until virgin gives the first ninety days for free, must be someway to hack into where it is stored properly tho.
Unlock Lobster
Heres the trick
Buy the phone
Get a FREE sim card from Virgin
Put £30 Credit on (You get £25 free when you buy the phone)
Call 789 and ask for unlock code
Get letter in 5 days time with unlock code
Tried and tested 3 times :-D
Also, the free sim cards definatly re-activate the 90 day TV Trial :-D
Just a quick one in regards to this post.
Another option is to call customer services and let them know you have been having problems with the signal and havent really had chance to test it 9/10 they will give u another month free. (which i have done)
or could try and complain that they are shutting down the service and you bought the phone for the tv (i bought it for the radio and its great) and you feel let down having paid out for the phone and fingers crossed you might get it free until the tv packs in.(which i will try soon)
Phew appologies for the bad grammer but speed typing at work

Hi this might sound like a dumb question. But I was just wondering if I can use my imate jasjam as a navigation system to be able to get street directions I know it is possible on other PDA/Phones like the O2. Also would I have to pay as this is done via GPS on other fones which the jasjam doesn't have.
Sure you can use GPS with jasjam/Tytn.
1. Buy a 1GB or 2GB microSD card.
2. Buy PPC GPS Nav software from www.66.com or www.tomtom.com
3. Buy a Nokia LD-3W or Globalsat BT-338 bluetooth GPS receiver from eBay.
That's all you need.
Thanxs for the fast reply I have looked at the GPS receivers on ebay and they dont say the jasjam? Also do you know any software that will work in Australia?
Well I have got a Jasjam on order (been waiting 6 weeks but should be here in 2-3 days) and I have a I-Blue GPS. I also have a TomTom 6 on my IIs which runs great and has maps of the whole of Australia and you can get maps for all over the world. When I get the Jasjam I will pair it with the I-Blue and see how it goes. I will let you know how I get on. Also how are you finding your Jasjam? Also how are you finding battery life?
To be honest I got it when it first came out and I have a few issues like the keyboard not working sometimes, the fone freezeing a coulpe of times the active sync screwing up on the PDA forceing a hard reset to fix the problem. Battery lIfe not sure I listen to it on the train and it goes from 100% to 90% and this is every day so I charge it like twice a week. Also the bluetooth plays Up. I have performed 2 hard resets. But in all honestly I have learnt to live with the porblems but after a hard resset all the problems disappear. I love my JASJAM. Which also comes unlocked from TELSTRA
I am getting mine from Telstra. Thanks for the info. I take it you didn't get yours from Telstra? Because if you did I am a bit worried.
Of course I got it from TELSTRA. The guy who sold it to me said "you can expect this as it is a new product which is the first in its class". Also if they tell you that you get 2 months free internet it is not true they told me that can then i noticed by bill said $150 for data usage so I rang up and complained and got two months for free for real and also a credit on my bill Also it is pretty expensive if you dont get a data pack I only use the net on it at home on my wireless so it doesnot worry me. Just becareful of what they say
I once got hit for $200 because Journal Bar http://www.omegaone.com/journalbar/ppc/default.htm connected to the internet to update the news and I didn't realise for 9 hours and in that time it had updated 9 times!!!!!!! Because I am getting the Jasjam on a business plan it is 50c per KB so I thought that it was best to get a $29 data pack or their could be a nasty surprise on the bill. Over in the UK on T-Mobile you can get unlimited GPRS for seven pound and here it is sometimes 50c a KB!!!!!!!!! As soon as they were released I got over to the Telstra shop to look at them and to see on their pricing and I got told that I could have one included on a $50 business plan so I went away and made a appointment with the accounts manager to get a few of them and he said that it would have to be on a $70 plan and I have been waiting 6 weeks for them to get them in and they said on Thursday that they would have them in within a week so I should finally get them. So it all just goes to show that with Telstra you have to do all the research yourself or they will stuff you round.
Ok got mine on the $80 plan but the options are pretty crap. Also this fone as present can not be insured I asked for it and they said sure no probs fill in this form and we will fax it of and it will be insured for $8 a month. Then a lady ring me and say no insurance cuase it is a PDA/Phone what is the go with this?? miss informed again. Also you are unable to check the account balance on the phone form the phone for some reason or if you manage to you get charged for it whre as every other provider offers it as a free service. But telstra makes you pay for everything
I have rung the accounts manager each week to see when they will be coming in and each week he is "I don't know and don't care I have other customers to deal with bye" and that is what they are like when you have you have a business and all the mobiles with them!!!!!!!! I felt just getting them online from the USA but I was concerned about the warranty and as Telstra is the only store that sells them you are at their mercy!!!
That is kind of true you could of purchased them from 3 but they only have stock of 500 in AUS, and you have to pay for them whereas with Telstra you own them and they also come with 2yrs warranty standard. Do you know where I can buy a cheap bluetooth GPS receiver from as I want to try the GPS. I think that any bluetooth reciever will work cause all it is doing is just sending and recieving a signal. Then I just have to find the software I had it before but I lost it
All the GPS software on E-Bay http://computers.listings.ebay.com....QQfromZR4QQsacatZ64371QQsocmdZListingItemList
How much do you want to pay for the GPS? A good one is about $150 inc postage.
$150 is fine.
"For Sale - Unofficial TomTom 6 Navigation Software for Pocket PC. This software will work on any bluetooth enabled Pocket PC running windows Mobile 2002 onwards with a SD Card Slot. The Software will be delivered on cd with easy instructions on how to load it on to your memory card." Man this sounds like the guy has downloaded the sw from the net and is just selling it LOL.
Also how big are the maps and program if I need a min o 512mb I currenty have 1024 which is half full with music?? Cause others say min 256mb
Sorry about the link to the TomTom software it is unofficial so DON'T buy it I just looked at it again and realised. I am really sorry.
Nah man it is fine it is pretty funny. He should just say this is the link pay me $120 and you can dl it straight away no need to wait for it in the mail LOL
Well on my device which has maps of Aus and the program it adds up to about 100mb so if you have a 1Gb half full it should be fine.
Well I have used Destinator 5 on my IIs and it was so slow that you would be going along the highway and then you take the exit and you would have been of the highway for about 4 minutes and it still said that you were on it so I changed to TomTom 6 and I find it great.
Here is the I-Blue GPS http://cgi.ebay.com.au/i-Blue-PS-73...yZ129259QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I use the I-blue but it is the previous model but I still find it great and the battery just keeps going. I find it has great accuracy and picks the signal up very quickly. I found that TomTom only registers it if it is on COM6 so you just create a new COM port and it works fine.
That is good to know so I should go for the TomTom 6 and this is like 100mb installed. Also are the maps free to update via the net or do i have to pay to dl them. Cause there are so many ppl on ebay selling the software on flash memory
Love the work that goes on here guys, the good thing about buying my tg01 is i found this forum.
1st Tg01 exchanged due to no one being able to hear me on phone.
2nd TG01 exchanged due to crashing during calls
just got my 3rd was installing my apps from card, install failed and now cant detect my card anymore (pc or phone)
back on the phone to orange, as this only day 64 of contract.
Memory card supplied with this device is well known to be complete and utter crap, but you know that right?
I am hazarding a guess that those of us using this device daily have replaced the memory card supplied with something of higher quality, or different make
well after 40 mins of blood, sweat and tears. i finally got them to credit my account with £20 to buy another.
My mrs is a manager in a call centre so know what buttons to press to get a reaction.

Up to you, all of them are overpriced for anything over 8gb, amazon do a Sandisk Mobile Ultra 8gb card that is class 6 for £17.99 including postage
I bought an kingmax 8 GB card on 20 Euros 3 month ago and had no problems with it. Anyway, it operates on HTC Magic, not on TG01
Nomophobia, as in "No mobile phone phobia!" I found this article interesting because, 1. Its definately me. 2. The one chick checks her phone 50 times a day? Please, Im triple that easy!!!!90% of the time im awake, Im on my phone! News, Facebook, bank, XDA, text, 401K, ZumoCast to my home computer, Playstation Network! I can go on forever!
http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2...our-cellphone-nomophobia-on-the-rise#comments
yep, i got it. and it drags me away from my PC more and more every day as they become more powerful. i mean really, there is not much technology out there that is more handy then a smartphone. i cant read the news for hours on less then 2000mAh on my laptop, but i can on my phone!
and 50 times... i get more then 100 text messages a day, plus 30-50 emails, then phones calls and internet surfing... yeah i def beat her mark of 50. i use my phone as my clock, it would be interesting to see how many times i do turn my screen on. im guessing id be well over 400.
@lroy, I'm probally in the 400+ range also. And speaking of computer, I was just telling guest Sunday, I could not tell you the last time I physically sat at my desk at home or moved that laptop off the coffee table. (She asked could she have it!). The only reason my desktop is powered on is I use ZumoCast when I'm out to access it! Hell, I even program my cable box when I want to see something and I know I will not make it home!
I wanted to bring this back to the front. Last week a friend mentioned she could not take pictures, I replaced 2Gb Card with 16Gb Card for $19.99. Same friend came over and told me she could not send text, told her to delete all of them, fixed! She just now called and asked if her daughter can come over Saturday and I replace her card like I did hers..........This got me to thinking, over the last month or so, I have helped 8+ people with something or another. If your not going to use the features of the smartphone, why spend $600.00? You can still look cool and spend alot less money? And Im not talking about rooting or unlocking, I'm talking about simple, everyday life things to make life simple in which the device was made for?
1. Most of these people did not even know Bank of America had an app to check your bank account? (Members1st Credit Union either?)
2. None knew that you can program your Comcast DVR from your phone?
3. All thought you had to pay $29.99 for hotspot?
4. None knew about Google Music?
5. I tell people about Douphin Browser and they look at me like Im crazy?
6. No one, including my boss who is IT manger knew about Nexflix on smartphone?
Maybe it's me being anal, but you would not get at $2000.00 TV and not know how to use it right? and look at all the phones coming to market now, bigger, faster, larger, etc............. Again, just me!

That's US carrier subsidies for you!
Carrier subsidies have f^@k*! up the entire system; $600-$700 devices being sold for $200 or less. People don't value smartphones at all.
Think of it, in reality smartphones cost more than most laptops, televisions and audio equipment etc.
Do people upgrade their TVs every year or two? Heck no! But carrier subsidies allow us to buy brand new phones for $200 every 2 years. And in case of Android phones, wait for 6-to-10 months and some models can be had for $100 or even close to free. Who doesn't like that?
And in turn to make their money, these carriers make us sign contracts and buy expensive data plans even if we don't want to.
I don't know of any other country in the world where they make you buy a data plan if you want to run a smartphone on their network.
You simply buy a phone and buy a plan, that's how it should work.
Lots of people I know in other countries have bought their own phones and run it with a simple voice-only plan. If they need data they pay only for what they use. No $40 data plan forced upon them. I wish our major carriers would adopt this policy.
Heck, I will leave Sprint if something doesn't change soon.
I've been with them for 10 years now and paying $80/month for ****ty service.
I'm waiting to see how its LTE network turns out before resigning any contracts.
DH can $uck it with his unlimited plans!
Ok....rant over! Taking a deep breath now....!
OK, My OP was NOT about data plans and contracts (althought you have some truth), I know people that have had their phone for over 10 years, he** I lost a bet because co-worker has flip Sprint phone with SIM card. That said, it is/was about people buying $600.00+ phones to take pictures and text, PERIOD!!! you can get a free phone for that. If your not going to utilize your smartphone with all it can do, why get it?
As for Data Plans, I have been to..........23 countries in the last 5 years. I took AT&T Tilt, flashed it, VodoPhone SIM from Airport, I'm good. I really only used data twice a day for a few minutes if that. But yes, phone only for your used minutes and what data you uses is subtracted from your minutes, no biggie. But also remember, they don't get the $100.00 up front and 2-year contract, they pay full then pick a plan. (For the record, no matter what phone I had, its not working in South Korea with WCDMA!)

Yeah, sorry about that, didn't mean to hijack your thread.
I would gladly buy my phone at full price if they allowed me the freedom of choosing my plan. But they don't. So I end up paying $100-$200 for the phone and then $1800 over the next 24 months in service charges.
I check my phone for email several times a day (definitely less than 50) but I am an average user with regards to every day usage.
I am around Wi-Fi 95% of the time and so are most users, so I don't need or want their ($hitty & spotty) internet service.
My gripe is this: keep the unlimited plans for those who want it but allow those who don't want it to buy a cheaper plan.
The other thing that really p!$$#$ me off is the iPhone!
As everyone well knows, subsidies are the highest for the iPhones. And where do carriers recover their money, in the plans and contracts. I hate it that I pay money for services that I can never fully utilize so that others can have their iPhones. If iPhones were sold at retail without subsidies, we wouldn't have all the iDiots!
Coming back to your original topic: I'm definitely addicted. I need my phone and check it regularly for email, messages, clock, workouts etc.
I'm hooked and can't live without it now.
I'm headed to Germany sometime next year for a couple of weeks for business. I really do not want to pay the ridiculous rates Sprint is charging.
I don't really call much, but I text and use a ton of data.
I am wondering if I would be able to put another SIM card in it and have it work over there, if there are any other alternatives, or if I should just get a prepaid mobile phone once over there.
If I am reading correctly, those cards expire after 30 days even if you don't use all of the minutes/data....correct? Is there a card I can buy that does not expires, gives my watch a phone number that I can use simply when my phone is out of BT range? There should not be many times when they aren't together, and buying a card that would expire even if I don't use it seems like a waste.

That is correct the card shuts down after the expire 30 or 90 days unless you "reboost." So that you can keep your number.
They do "auto boost"....you just need to sign up on the www.
I have the $100 or$90 (auto boost) expires in 1 yr, which is comes out to about $8.33 or $7.50 a month. I too am pretty much 99.5% on bt so I looked it this way....instead of reboosting on the expiring 30/90 days cards.......I don't have to worry about it till next yr. Believe me I will not be using up the data/min before 1yr. The att gear s is for when I am out of sprint coverage, I will have att coverage for emergencies on their network.

I use the $10/90 day plan. It's their most economical. I don't stream music, I don't constantly browse with Opera or anything. I just use the watch at the gym 3-4x a week, and get my notifications and calls forwarded to the watch- I've used 70 cents of the $10 so far in 2 weeks.
H2O is certainly a better network (at&t) than T-mobile and for $40 a year, it's your best bet IMO. recharging every 30 days would be cumbersome I guess, but 90 days at a time, is that really a big deal? If you wanted, you could buy a few PINs at a time, when the 90 days are up, just recharge with em directly from the watch by texting H2O with them.

Excellent....Thanks!! I just ordered the $10/90. I wasn't given an option to choose an area code or sim card size. How do they determine those things?

oh I should have mentioned- you can get the Sim card for 1 penny- with free shipping- from amazon. you need a nano sim. unless you're in a big hurry to get it, that's the cheapest way. Once you receive the sim card you'll activate it and get your phone number and stuff. You should buy a recharge pin from a place like pinzoo.com and use that to activate the pay-as-you-go $10/90 plan. It's not the most straightfoward thing at first, but I promise it's easy and saves a bunch of money.
Depending on where you're located, you can find a cellphone store that will carry these sims as well, but they'll probably charge you $10 for it.
I just ordered like 10 sim cards for 10 cents- half micro and half nano- for people who visit from overseas or need an extra line for a little while.

No problem...I just bought 3 cards from Amazon. What exactly do I need Pinzoo for? At this point I bought the $10/90 from H20, sim from Amazon.
Are you suggesting I buy refill minutes from pinzoo instead of directly from H20, after my card that's on the way expires?

yea pinzoo and h2o are the same way to buy the plans and cost the same. i guess i like pinzoo cause it uses paypal and they can keep your info on file for a quick refill. I think for whatever reason the first time i bought a plan, I couldn't figure out how to get pay-as-you-go without ordering the sim card from h2o for $10.
your sim card won't expire unless you stop refilling it. it's not like you dispose of the SIM card after the 90 days- it will work indefinitely like any other sim card as long as you keep paying it. you don't really need more than 1 sim card unless you're planning on using h2o for your other devices. I just mentioned buying a bunch so I'd have some on hand in case anyone needed one (since they're practically free anyway)
Ok... I'm in great shape then. Thanks for your help. This sure beats a monthly plan from a carrier.
