strange file on \windows - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

hi all
in my \windows directory there's a file with name "dangaard-certificates.xml"
what is it? maybe something that could prevent rom upgrade?
and i have a lot of strange file inside like 034e7cf6-8a3*.dmf. are they temporary files that can be safely deleted or system files?
thanks

It's a security certificate. Come with the South African TyTN ROM

does it come with the radio rom ? because i have only upgraded the radio rom, the os rom is the original italian one
thanks

It comes with all htc roms, its run from preconfig.txt, if you look at it there's an "XML:" entry which install the certificate after hard reset. This is normal, don't be paranoid

Warning WM5 1.60a and Extended _rom

Just a little info -I discovered at the weekend. I have been playing with the wm5 1.60a for a while and in orfder to save space in the storage i have installed a lot of programs on the extended_rom partition. I renamed this via the registry. Don't do this !as it really screws things up. You end up with two extended rom plabels in explorer and you can not rename them back. I have had to reinstall wm5 1.60a
I dont see any problem installing program in Extended ROM. All you have to make sure is you have to rename the Extended ROM BEFORE you install anything.
If you rename it AFTER then surely you are going to be screwed. Because the program installed in the extended ROM is registered in the registry as whatever name the extended ROM when the program are installed.
Can you please be more specific with your problem. If not I think your post is "misleading".
True
In summary you are correct. I should have renamed Extended_rom before installing programs to it.
However when you reset the machine the operating system creates a new folder called extended rom and puts the renamed extended rom data and programs in it.
The original renamed folder with the memory chip icon is also present in the directory view so the data appears twice.
odd to say the least
I dont have the problem that you described.
When I install WM5 v 1.60a. I immediately rename it to "STORAGE" then install program in it. I have been using version 1.60 for more than a week now and I have countless Soft Reset even Hard Reset(Persistent memory right?) and no double folder and anything.
Just follow my advice and rename it at the beginning. I am sure you wont have the problem.
Hi,
This has most likely been covered but can someone tell me how do I rename storage areas. Disableling Security on V1605

Hello Everybody,
got the new V1605 very nice unit.
I've got a problem that I'm trying to resolve but it sime that I've hit a brick wall.
I'm looking for the cab file but must be signed to disable the security so I can install software without any warning.
I've tryed already 3 cab file but everytime I launch the cab it tell me that it is not signed so I have to tap on yes.
This is no good for me because I need to put this in the Extended Rom and so I can install any software but because it is telling me that it is not digitally signed it does not install.
Has anybody have any idea how I can resolve this problem.
Thank You
Gigino
Technical help need
Hello every1,
I need some help in disabling the security on the V1605.
I've made a cab file to modify the registry but when I put it in the extended rom.
When I H/R the PDA you see that the cab file is called and then it quickly goes to the next cab.
When I check the registry it has not been modifyed so I try executing the cab file manually what happen I get the security warning, I've try another cab file which are suppose to have the security in the cab file but still I get the security warning.
What I would like to do if anybody knows how it can be done is to create some kind of file that will not get the security to come up so it wll modify the registry so I can modify the Extended rom with my own software.
I've noticed that the config.txt in the extended rom has a command
Show:\windows\vodafone.bmp
Can I create an exe file that can modify the extended rom or make a backup of the registry that I modify and give it a command like copy this file to windows.
Please any programmes out they are they eble to help me please.
Thank You.
Gigino
I merged the two threads because you're asking the same. If you get no answer it is better to bump the thread by adding a new comment than to start a new one.
Back to your question, it is not possible to do what you want because the cab file that disables security must be signed with a key we don't have. Maybe someone might come up with a solution, but AFAIK it is not possible now (the signed cabs from Universal for this purpose do not work on the Hermes).

Reverting back to T-Mobile UK WM 5

I'm in the process of reverting my Hermes back to a T-Mobile UK ROM for Windows Mobile 5 using My Vanx guide but I can't exrtract the entended ROM from the ROM I have. Can anyone help me out?
I have a rar file of the contents of the t-mobile uk ext rom, if thats what you need?
Yes please, that would be great. Is that what I need to revert back to WM 5?
Well, ideally I think you can just overwrite the ext rom contents then do the rom downgrade, then hard reset and the ext rom contents will install.
I havent done it myself though.
Here's the zip, rar's not allowed apparently.
Thanks, I'll give it a try this afternoon and let you know how it goes.
That would be appreciated, just in case I have a warranty issue......
I'm trying to get it back due to a warranty issue (white appears as yellow).
Anyway, the extended ROM downloaded okay, however it didn't contain the Herm_extendedRom.nb as stated here. I've got the PrimarySplash.nb, SecondarySplash.ng and Windows.nb files from decompiling the NBH file, and now I'm stuck in a dead end.
Oh. you're doing that, I dont have the nbh file im afraid, what I was doing was leaving the extended rom alone when flashing rom updates so the original contents will work.
The main reason I didnt bother deleting the original ext rom is that the files dont actually run under wm6 and I dont really have any use for the ext rom.
Theoretically if you replace the contents of the ext rom with the contents of the zip then do the downgrade stuff wthout selecting the ext rom nbh file it might work. since I seem to recall that the ext rom contents were run by a prompter file in the windows directory from the original t-mobile OS rom after you first hard reset.
Might be worth seeing if anyone can clarify this though, as I said, I havent downgraded as yet.
Sounds like it might work, or just trying to flash without the Extended ROM, and then running the cab files seperately afterwards, but I'd like to seek clarification before doing so.

[REQ/Q] Rogers Call Display. How to cook a dll file into a ROM?

Hi all, I'm trying to make Fido Call Display to work on my Device, and I found the solution here. However the solution requires me to cook the rilphone.dll file into the ROM that I'm using (NAFT's v2.3). I've never cooked a ROM before and I'm far from understanding the procedure, but I don't think it's that hard to add a file in a cooked ROM. Can you guys help me out with this?
Please show me how to add/replace rilphone.dll in NAFT's v2.3 ROM. Thank you.

Yes, the reason my method does not work is because the rilphone.dll is not signed with a trusted certificate as I stated..
Pretty much leaves the only option as cooking it in, unless you are already using a ROM with a modified nk.exe in XIP to disable certificate checking.. then you can just drag and drop rilphone.dll and reboot.. but since stock ROMs are not modified in such a way, you cook it in, as all files cooked into ROM are trusted..
Unfortunatly there is no way to modify XIP without cooking either.
If a ROM is unprotected (still has it's rgu's) - download a ROM kitchen for your device.. extract the rom of your choice.. replace rilphone.dll in \OEM\OEMDrivers.. then re-assemble the ROM.. no registry manipulation needed.
For the raphael ROM kitchen, name your ROM "RUU_Signed.nbh", put it in \BaseROM
Run RaphaelKitchen.bat
select "e" for extract, then "a" for "From RUU_Signed.nbh"
let it go through its motions, when it's done replace rilphone.dll in \OEM\OEMDrivers
again in RaphaelKitchen.bat select "cf" then "b"
click "BuildOS" tab
click "Load ROM" button
navigate to RaphaelKitcken folder (has subfolders OEM, ROM, SYS, etc), press ok
click green "Go" button
when done, close the window
again the kitchen will go through some motions, when it pops up XVI32 and says "Page Pool Changer" in the command prompt window simply close xvi32
now it should prompt to flash to your device.. and you're done

Ya, I tried it with NAFT's v2.3, but it seems that the file is protected... the file can't be read.
I'm not sure I understand, you tried to cook the file into ROM and it gave you an error about it being protected? Or do you mean you tried to copy the file to the device, and it wouldn't let you overwrite? If that's the case that's why I suggest renaming rilphone.dll to rilphone2.dll before you copy to device, and then change the registry to point to that.. that way you don't have to overwrite the file that's already on the device.

i tried what you told me to do on the other post; Rename the file, and extract it... I have no problem renaming the file, but when I tried to extract it with Raphael Kitchen, I got error like "Cannot read the file" or something like that... here is the dump log
ImgfsToDump 2.1rc2
Cannot map file imgfs.bin

Nothing was extract.
hmm, sounds like the ROM kitchen is having a problem handing the .nbh you fed it, try it with a stock nbh and see if it works..
the rom you are trying to extract may be protected from extraction.
Just to make sure, you are trying to extract the ruu_shipped.nbh in \baserom.. which is the ROM image, somewhere in the range of 50 to 200mb large..

I redownload the Rom and it seems to work now. I can finally extract it.
As for the rilphone.dll... do you have the right one for Rogers Display? and the one that will work for Fido as well?
edit: I successfully reflashed my ROM, but the display thing doesn't work. Beside replacing rilphone.dll is there any reg I need to change? (can you give me the right rilphone.dll file?
I got the rilphone.dll file here
Sucessfully cooked in NaFT's v3.1, however it still doesn't work. It always show unknown Caller.
any help here would be much appreciated

Could someone please upload audiopara3.cvs from non-EU ROM?

I bought my Mega a few days ago and since I had a Trinity with Australian ROM before I didn't think about the EU volume limit and flashed my new Mega with WWE Europe - 1.28.401.4 which of course has that annoying volume limit crap in it.
Sure I could get rid of it by re-flashing my phone to WWE Asia - 1.28.707.3 but then I would have to reinstall all my programs and redo all the settings and changes I already made so I would rather like to remove that limit without reflashing to a different ROM.
From what I read I think I would only need the following files from a non-EU ROM to to this:
AudioFilterTable.csv
AudioPara.csv
AudioPara3.csv
AudioPara3_Iolite.csv
AudioPreProcessTable.csv
which are all located in the Windows folder on the device.
So please could maybe sb upload those 5 files from a non-EU ROM so that I could use them to remove that volume limit from my phone without reflashing it completely?
Thanks a lot!

Interesting idea - hope it works. Please reply if the attached files help
These files are taken from a WWE ROM called RUU_Mega_hTC_Asia_WWE_1.28.707.3_Radio_Signed_61.41t.25.31_3.48.25.27_Ship. I extracted them using osKitchen.
Make sure to copy with for example Total Commander or maybe ActiveSync, so that you can overwrite files in that windows directory.
thx a lot for uploading the files
It didn't let me replace them with ActiveSync but then I just copied them to a temp dir with ActiveSync and used Resco Explorer to replace them directly on the phone.
Unfortunately it didn't work, I replaced the files restarted the phone but that annoying volume limit is still there
I guess I have to start over and re-flash my phone with WWE Asia - 1.28.707.3 now.
Well at least I learned sthg from this - never ever flash an European ROM again
Thanks a lot for your help anyway!
