I realize this has been asked a dozen times and I've searched the threads that discuss it, but in spite of following the advice given I have been unsuccessful in getting my Tytn to sync with Vista. I have the WMDC beta 3 installed, I've tried to update drivers as suggested (not sure it worked). The WMDC loads OK and I hear the familar USB connection sound but that's it. It does not "connect" -- I don't know what else to try. It seems most who do this are getting it to work OK. I have the Cingular ROM installed in my HTC Tytn (Hermes 200).
Thanks for whatever advice can be offered.

Hi,
Click "Start -> Settings -> Connections -> USB to PC" and uncheck "enable advanced network functionality"
that should do the trick

Thanks for the tip. Out of curiosity, what is "Advanced network functionality" on USB?
Thanks.
ALso, have any of you gotten directpush working after syncing with Vista? Mine hasnt worked wirelessly since...
@Southern: I believe "advanced functionality" refers to being able to use the USB connection as a "tether" to the PC's network connection.
I got my TyTn to synchronize with Vista but it's been behaving strangely -- sometimes doesn't connect, sometimes connects then disconnects, sometimes sounds like it's connected but nothing happens. Is this experience typical for others?
Also -- anyone using Pocket Controller in Vista? I was pleased to see that it installed OK, or so it seemed. But now, after having it work fine for several days, it's stopped working -- loads but won't quite connect -- ends up shrinking itself to a small box on screen.... the only thing I've done since installing it has been to upgrade to Vista drivers for several ThinkPad T60p drivers just released in Vista.
I can't seem to do a ROM update in Vista.

I have an Advantage x7500. I've installed the WM6 ROM here. My problem is I can't connect to my Advantage via Windows Mobile Device Center on my Vista box or ActiveSync on my XP box. The computer makes the expected sound when the USB connection is made, and in ActiveSync I can explore the device, but that's it. In WMDC, the error message for RapiMgr is "Windows Mobile-based device failed to connect due to communication (0x80072745) failure (see data for failure code)." I've done a lot of searching before I posted this and found a lot of posts (so at least I'm not alone). I've disabled firewalls, AV, anti-spyware, but no change. I've also uninstalled and reinstalled WMDC and ActiveSync. I do notice in Device Manager no Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node. Under the Mobile Devices node is HTC USB Sync. Any suggestions would be appreciated as I've been beating my head on wall on this. Thanks.

Thanks, but been there, done that. (I didn't want to waste everyone's time so I did use the search button first)
As I mentioned in my prior message, in Device Manager there is no Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node. Do those of you using WM6 have such an entry for that adapter?
.
I have the same problem, but in Vista.
Sync has been working fine, but now suddenly it wont connect.
.
ps: sync on my SPV C500 works perfect. It's only my X7500 that won't connect.
..
lo and behold.....xman06's solution in the other tread worked for me.
"Try to go on setting connection usbtopc and disable advanced network functionality and ok"
perfect

Thanks, but been there and done that too. (The downside of searching first is that all the usual solutions have been tried)
Tell me, under Device Manager do you have Windows Mobile Remote Adapter under the Network Adapters node? And under the Mobile Devices node do you have HTC USB Sync? I'm missing the former; that may be the issue but I'm not sure not knowing if others have it or not.
I bit the bullet and did a hard reset (too bad that doesn't work on spouses ) and ActiveSync started working again.
Kaiser / TyTN II WMDC Activesync no connection
I have the same issue described above. And no, the solutions given don't work. Not even a hard reset.
I am not sure what the issue is. Any ideas?
Similar problem solved
I had the same problem and went through many steps like those posted in this forum. I'm going to show my steps to solve this problem without hard reset your phone.
1) When the phone is connected, at the phone ActiveSync setting delete the PC profile.
2) Unplug the phone from the PC.
3) Uninstall and then reinstall the ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Center.
4) At phone system setting -> About -> make sure there is a name ID. Without this the PC cannot identify the phone and thus cannot sync.
5) Set the USBtoPC with 'advance network..." enabled.
6) To the extreme, before step 3, go to PC windows\inf and remove infcache.1 (need to add in an administrators account and set the privilage to full control). That may remove old corrupted drivers.
This page was coming up on the top list of google so i'll post my solution here.
I also spent hours trying to find the problem
uninstalled/reinstalled WMDC/Downloaded the latest version etc/Hard reset TYTN II/followed endless google searches, followed the instructions here etc etc.
Similiar to the OP i had windows making the "normal ding dong sounds but no connection happening.
In the finish what fixed my problem was with the device plugged in go to Device Manager on the PC and in "Network Adapters" select "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter" and right click "Update Driver Software"
That got me back connected.....Hope it helps someone else out
Did it worked? I can't install WMDC without having my Pocket PC conected and when I have it it doesn't install anyway...
hey guys, if you have firewall installed disable it until the connection is made with your computer and phone, then re-enable your firewall.
this seems to be the problem solution for me all the time. Hope it helps.
Guys, I've waited to find a solution, it's been almost 10 months, and I wonder if I'm the only one with the problem. I can sync via USB cable, but not via Bluetooth. My setup:
Computer: Vista Ultimate 32bit running WMDC v 6.1
PPC: Dopod 181pro G3 WM6 PDAViet 4005b.
Any help appreciated. Thank you.
You must change AS config. on your PPC for BT connection
What do you mean? Under my BT in my PPC, I have ActiveSync checked. It does try to connect with WMDC, but it just never actually connects.
Has anyone gotten bluetooth sync to work under Vista and WM6? I'm starting to think there is either something missing on the WM6 PDAViet, or the Vista BT stack is missing something.
So, find the bluetooth settings in Vista. I can't help you much here since I'm using a german version.
Systemsteuerung\Hardware und Sound\Bluetooth-Geräte
(Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Bluetooth-Devices?)
Open the panel and select COM-Ports, and add a Port for an incoming connection. Don't forget to pair the devices and tell the WMDC its allowed to use Bluetooth connections.
hope it works for you
p.s. I can't get my WM5 device to connect, its an hx4700. My Hermes works fine (WM6). Any suggestions on that maybe?
Ok thanks all, I finally got it kinda working. Kinda, cause it doesn't work all the time for some strange reason. The only thing I did to finally get it to work is, after I paired the PPC and computer up, I went to the BT icon on my desktop and clicked it open, and selected the 'HTC Phophet' icon, and under the service tab, I checked off Activesync. Then it was able to connect. It took a while to connect though, and also sometimes, it would not connect. Also, the speed is really slow, for example, to browse my PPC folders takes a very long time. I wonder if it's my upgraded radio rom. I will see if rebooting or soft resetting the PC/PPC would solve anything. Thanks again.

if you see "serial port" instead of "active sync" during getting them to 'see each other' you may check "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SerialPort" key using regedit.
you have to change it to your bluetooth stack's incoming COM port (usually COM7). You will probably see "Bluetooth" in that key. just change it to "COM7" and restart the computer then rebind the devices.
it worked for me on my vista.

OK, did a search in RegEdit for
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\SerialPort"
but it didn't find this....
I do see
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\" with several subfolders in it....
One folder is called 'Extended Serial' and another is 'Services'....
Can you be verify the path to the item I should edit???
Thanks!

it is not a path but it is a REG_SZ (string) key.
sorry, my mistake. I should have written SerialPort key under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.
see the attached image.
it was "Bluetooth" before I change it.
I had no option to select COM7 in WMDC because it is marked as "used" in another registry but changing it and reinstalling the bluetooth stack is a harder way to fix. so just change it to whichever port your stack is using for incoming serial. you must have an option to check it in control panel.

Weird thing is that my X7501 and laptop can 'see each other' but still doesn't sync....when I click on 'sync' in ActiveSync on X7501 nothing happens and on laptop Mobile Device Center says 'Not Connected' and Sync Center shows the partnership with my X7501 as 'grayed out' looking.....
Not sure what you mean by 'you must have an option to check it in control panel...
Any suggestions as to what to check now???
Why Don't I See 'ActiveSync' Listed in BT Services List?
Seems that the problem I'm having getting my 7501 to sync to a PC via BT has to do with no having ActiveSync show up in the list of available services in BT partnership settings.
I just see Serial Port listed, not ActiveSync.
Could it be that I need to install ActiveSync again?
I'm using Vista on PC so I thought it uses Mobile Device Center and Sync Center which comes built-in to Vista. So didn't install ActiveSync myself...
Does ActiveSync install anything onto a mobile device like the X7501?
Thanks,
Mark
Frustrated X7501 BT Sync'r.....
GOT BT Sync Finally!
Just thought this might help someone else down the road to know what the problem turned out to be on why I couldn't BT Sync my X7501 and my laptop....
I called HTC this morning. They were actually extremely helpful!
Turns out that my laptop was using BlueSoleil BT software instead of MS BT Stack...deleted BlueSoleil and restarted and voila! MS BT Stack installed and then I could see ActiveSync service on my X7501!!!!
Who would of thought about that.....

I have the same problem. Seems to be a fairly common one. My WM6 PPC (with Active Sync) will not sync via bluetooth to my Vista Ultimate "powered" machine with WMDC. No trouble syncing via USB. Also no trouble with bluetooth pairing of the PPC and my machine or sending files (directly) from one to the other via bluetooth. Just no syncing of Calender, Tasks, etc. over bluetooth. Kind of infuriating.
Also possibly worth noting---I had no trouble syncing same PPC to my old XP powered machine with Active Sync. Why did Microsoft insist on "improving" on something (Active Sync) that worked just fine and was straightforward to use? Vista and WMDC in particular are steps backward in my view.
Pointless griping aside, the symptoms suggest that bluetooth stacks are working, that active sync and WMDC are talking (over USB), just no syncing, suggesting something is inconsistent in the way the ports are set up, just as others have implied in this thread.
Incidentally I tried everything listed in this thread, including the Regedit modification (all of this made a lot of sense given the problem) and still get no response when I try to sync over bluetooth.
On my ppc the only options for com ports are COM2, COM4, COM6 and COM8. Does this matter?
Help!? Please.
Thanks in advance for any input.
Well, as for myself, it tured out that my problem had something to do with the pocket pc ROM I installed, as posted in the first thread. It would sync a few times at first, then never again. So, all this time (years) I've just done it with USB wire.
Now I just got done upgrading my Prophet to Ultimate v 2 ROM. And my BT active Sync is now working like normal. I knew from the description of the first paragraph there was something wrong with my flash of the new ROM or the ROM itself. Anyway, now it's working like normal. It's now time to go fix my headphone jack that is stuck in headphone mode lol. I need a new PPC!
Hi!
After reading a little bit through the other posts I know that I'm not the only one with this problem.
Active Sync via usb is still not working in touch IX. I directly sync with an Exchange server which works perfectly over wireless lan, but when I connect my phone to usb, after a few seconds I get the message (On the phone and in the AS log):
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To check your connection settings, select Start, then Settings, then Connections."
The funny thing is that I'm able to ping the phone and have full access to the filesystem with the WindowsExplorer, so there realy is a connection established.
I think there is missing a little setting in the phone. I tried to disable the "advanced network functionality" but still no success.
Would be very great if someone could find a solution or we can figure out together what changed between VIII and IX.
Workaround/Solution
After playing around a little bit I found a solution that works, but not why.
After changing the default connections to "My Work Network" is worked!
Go to
Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->Advanced->Select Networks
and select "My Work Network" for both connections.
I have no time left to figure out the difference between "My ISP" and "My Work Network", maybe I'll try this later or someone else could do this

change the topic you are misguiding ,should be "Active Sync and touch IX via usb" is still not working on bluetooth where do this gets discussed then for bluetooth.
you're right, corrected it!
But by the way for me it seems like the root problem could be nearly the same.
I'm hoping that maybe gullum could find the real problem. This would be very fine!
Go and search for USB-Switch.
I found it some months ago and it worked great at WM5. Maybe it works at WM6 too. I got the same problem but I got stuck after step 1 when flashing to WM6/Gullum IX (see my other post).
All USB-Switch does is to switch between RNDIS and serial I think.Maybe this helps.

Hey guys, i've searched around here and PPCGeeks but can't seem to find an answer.
Obviously I have a Touch Pro and I want to tether it to/with my Vista Laptop. I'm currently using WMWifi Router and it works fine but it drains the battery and the phone gets REALLY hot, rendering it unchargeable until it cools down.
I know I'm not the only one that is trying to tether with Vista so how are you guys able to do it? I can tether with XP no problem.
I've installed all the hacks, registry edits, fixes, and nothing.
Any help?

I was tethering this weekend using hte usb cable. It was working fine on dcd rom 0.92. However, I tried wmwifirouter 0.89 and it didn't work at all. I'm not sure why, but I had to reset the registry with the crash cleanup in order for the regular tethering to work.
My phone has been getting warm with heavy internet use, but I am in a low signal area. It is the phone using a lot of power to get to the network.
I tether all the time. I use Internet Sharing. Open Internet Sharing on your phone, then connect the phone to the computer/laptop using your usb cord. Then hit connect on your Internet Sharing and voila - internet on your computer/laptop.

Me too. I took a trip this weekend and just used Internet Sharing. Worked every time like a charm. I'm using it with NFSFAN's latest ROM and Vista Ultimate.
I am tethering with Vista and my TP all the time, in fact i am writing this using that connection with my vista lappy and TP(wm6.5+Shell3(no touchflow)) with wmwifirouter(1.35) via 3g(sprint) and wifi. Thats the worst possible configuration for heating up the TP and thus stopping the charge. Here is how i beat it, try this steps one by one until it stops overheating and lets you use net and charge at the same time:
1) turn off screen on TP(saves batt life as well as heat)
2) + slide the keyboard open(better heat dessisipation(sp?)
3) + take out stylus
4) + set it up so TP is standing up(lean it on something)
5) + point a regular fan at TP(thats where i am at atm but the temperature inside my room is close to 90F)
I've been online today for a total of about 40 mins(heavy downloads and 6 tabs open) and still charging(step 5)
Thanks for the pointers Pesok.
I know how to tether.. i've done it for a while with my old XP laptop. The whole "connect usb, internet sharing, etc" is second nature to me.
I should say I'm using the stock rom.
I've been using PDANet and/or WMWifi depending on how much battery life I have.
As far as the conventional method, internet sharing, connect, etc.. it's just not working. I must be missing something

You do need to install the Windows Mobile Device Center Update. You can get it here: Mobile Device Center 6.1 This is for 32bit, if you need the 64bit version go here
Even though you may not sync the device, it install's the driver that is used when it acts as a modem in internet sharing mode. I used it with Vista and Windows 7. Windows 7 is good enough to automatically download and install the driver saving you the time.
If you have done this and it still doesn't work I have some more troubleshooting you can try.

Might
help if you mention what Windows/system you are running on your pc
the operation system is windows 7
Do
you have the Windows Mobile Device Center installed?
Have you tried a Disk Drive connection, under connections USB to PC?
I do know for a fact some people simply solved the problem just by using another USB port...
Might be worthwhile checking your firewall too, I believe some can block the active sync connection

thank you for your post i did everything you wrote the problem still my hd2 doesnt recognize to my pc i am planning to sell my phone because og this
Havent used WP7 yet, but in WM6.x there is something in Settings for USB connection - this gives you the ability to check a box that says (something like) Fast Outlook connection. If you uncheck this you will probably find that your HTC connects beautifully. So, again, trawl through your setup/settings and look for something that talks to USB connection, or PC Synch.
Hope this helps.
Uninstall all versions of Windows Mobile Device Centre then reboot, just install the latest update from of WMDC from Microsoft and plug your HD2 in.
It worked for me and I'd tried everything else.

I'm having the same problem also, but I am using Windows Vista. I tried just about everything the forum mentions its pretty frustrating. I've tried uninstalling and installing WMDC and tried different USB ports, also tried selecting a few of the different settings on the phone in the USB to PC. Does anyone know what possibly I am missing or not doing correctly?

Still having problems with this... I've uninstalled rebooted and installed and reboot WMDC and also messed with all the settings on USB to PC and tried every single USB port on my computer.
