Device 'hangs' on O2 screen, but want to upgrade need advice

Hello all,
My XDA 1 has a fault I don't understand. When I hit the Power on button it comes on and stops at the O2 splash screen. It will not go beyond this point no matter what I try. The desktop does not recognise the device when I connect via USB. I have tried:
1. Soft reset
2. Hard reset
3. booting up in bootloader and running all device tests (failed USB rx & Infrared rx)
4. In bootloader copying boot to SD and booting with that. (Unfortunately I do not currently have an SD card large enough to copy CE or GSM boot)
What I really need to know is if I can try to upgrade the device (to WM2003) anyway and if the upgrade will solve the problem I have now.
DEVICE DETAILS:
Device: O2 xda 1
Bootloader: 5.14
ROM: 4.01
Radio: 3.02
Any and all advice/help/replies most welcome. Sorry if this has been answered previously but I searched and couldn't find the info I needed.
Thanks,
Aide
It's a lost cause...
Device can't connect to activesync via serial or USB so I can't upgrade and see if that solves it. Don't have card reader to try SD method. The problem is as described in my first post above.
I don't know how this happened (I hadn't tried upgrading or any sort of flashing apart from unlocking the device a looooong time ago).
Any ideas as to a solution would be greatly appreciated.
Aide
Your ROM version is not known (at least for me ) ... are you sure it's not 4.01.00 ??
Anyway, regardless of the reason, the good news is that you still have the boot loader working, the bad new is that you MUST use the SD method since the ActiveSync doesn't recognize the device.
Thanks Bis,
Yes ROM is 4.01.00 (sorry if I confused anyone ). Problem is at a new level.
I got an XDA with a cracked screen (so it's almost impossible to use though everything works) and used that with XDAtools (thanks Jeff) to upgrade to xda-dev Special Rom 1.2.
I copied the ROM to the 32MB SD card (got and error message at the end) but still risked using it to try bootloader method on the 'hanging xda. It worked: kinda :?
It now boots and hangs at the xda-dev splash screen and no other changes to original problem. Was that error message I saw responsible or could something hardware related have happened?
Still waiting for relief...Help me please. Someone, anyone...

That's your problem - redo everything above - but using a 64MB SD Card or higher. The ROM files are just over 32MB. Even if your card said it was all there chances are it could have been corrupt.

Thanks JB,
Getting 128MB card in the morning, will let all know how it went.
Aide
PS: Noticed someone posted same initial problem under topic 'XDA 1 locked on O2 screen' in General forum with no solution posted. So if anyone is interested - watch this space!
Ahhhh... God is in his heaven and all is right with the world
Used 128MB card and it worked like a charm. One thing I noted though: After I used XDAtools to copy ROM to the SD card and put it in the device it would not boot from the card automatically. I assume the ROM update tool on the device checks to see if the current ROM and the one on the SD card are the same and ignores the SD card if they are. (By the way, could someone please confirm if this is so? Idle curiosity  )
I had to use the tool on the device to write the ROM to SD from one device and then the other device (that had the hanging problem) finally read that copy.
Thanks all,
Aide
some boot loder versions doesn't recognize ROM file on SD cards ... ex: 5.22

How to upgrade from an SD card

Hi, I got one big problem while I was upgrading my Qtek 2020 from ROM 1.58fr to the Launch ROM fom O2. During the pocess I guess that I lost the connection and the upgrade failed.
I tried to launch it about 10 times without any results. When I switch on my Qtek I just see a grey screen showing me the version of the ROM I tried to install 1.03.
Now, as I cannot do that from my PC I would like to try from a SD card with the XDAtool. However, where do I find a ROM I can use to install my XDA with this tool and how do I boot from my SD card ?
Thanks for your help, I'm a bit disapointed for the moment.

Information on the SD Card upgrades can be found on another forum topic, here, obviously I don't need to tell you to be cautios when doing this.
As for finding a ROM, you can either use the one from a rom-kitchen, like lumpensteins rom-kitchen, or register and download one from your service provider and start installing it, but remove the files from the temp directory and put those on an SD card. There are plenty topics in these forums with more detailed instructions, so I suggest you search more.

Help me with Atom Life ROM Upgrading[Is this Your question? Here I got the Answer]

Dear members
I was really very desperate to try my hands on ROM upgrading since I got my Atom life. But inspite of all ROM being available here I am not able to upgrade my ROM because it has to be done through mini-sd. I don't know whats going wrong but here are the issues I have faced:
1.I am not able to get the Record+Reset working on my Atom life.
2.I have found somewhere in this forum that 2gb minisd does work. is this correct?
3.Can there be any alternative way to get this device upgraded like we use to do in HTC devices.
I wish to know from all the users if they are having answers for these questions.
This is a must have for a thread for Atom, but couldn't find any dedicated solution to this procedure of upgrade.
Hope to get some solution soon.

What you see above were the most expected questions of a newbie to ROM upgrading in O2 Atom Life[O2 comet]
Here is the most simple guide in upgrading the device. This is based on my personal experience so any deviation ca be expected in case you do it yourself. But most of the steps are just ubiquitous in case of any attempt at upgrading the ROM in Atom Life[O2 comet]
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTRUCTIONS:
Formatting card & setting the file type to fat16 or fat on your PC or with the help of any pocket pc application.
Then you need to copy the file[xxx.DIO] on your memory card[not in any folder] Just reset the device pressing record[in right middle side] along with stylus in the softreset hole[in the left botton side]
Take Stylus out first & then keep pressing the record button until black screen with minisd detect appears.
Thats it. Now it will start installing the ROM from the memory card.
Things to remember:
1.get 1gb or less card[2gb won't do at times]
2.Format it in windows or in your ppc in either fat or fat16 format[don't do fat 32 it won't work]
3.Copy the file on the memory card[not to any folder in it]
Hope the guide will help you & you will have no problems in updating the phone reply if there is any problem.

Hi guy, can only adv you the pt(1) + (2)...
1.I am not able to get the Record+Reset working on my Atom life: You must Press Record + Reset, leave Reset first.
2.I have found somewhere in this forum that 2gb minisd does work. is this correct: Yes, I always use 2G SD to up ROM (make sure there's no any file in SD excepted AL1.DIO)
Good luck!
I didn't get you my friend. plz be more clearer.
1. Press Record + Reset, then leave Reset first but still keep pressing Record. AL will be in Bootloader mode for yr up ROM by SD.
2. For up ROM by SD, I always use 2G SD to up ROM (make sure there's no any file in SD excepted AL1.DIO).
3. AL can support 4G SD w/o no any problem, not yet test for 8G SD.

naah. i dont think I have ever mentioned that before. If I have, then its by mistake. My bad then.
@Maniac, Don't bother brother. May be it could have been because of some mistake or may be in some other context.
Anybody tried 8gb microsd with minisd adaptor. Actually I wish to post results myself but the problem is that its not available in my city so have to order from ebay so a bit reluctant if it doesn't work.
Thanks & Regards

My suggestion. Keep a smaller mini SD for flashing and a higher capacity card for other purposes. From my personal experience of using a 4GB card. Read is quite slow at times. It could also give issues while booting if you install applications on memory card.
I think I have no other option but to buy one. Hope it won't turned out to be a bad deal.
@maniac, bro why you have this slow reading problem when I don't imagine this can be there in such a high model PPC.
Moreover let me confirm everybody once again that the 2gb minisd won't work for ROM upgradation but 1gb does work like charm so try it w/o any doubts. It is confirmed as I have experimented with few of the phones.
I don't know if this may help you:

Speed of the processor has got nothing to do with the SD card reading speed. It all depends on the card driver. My 4 GB is a pain at times.

Can you help please?. My rw6815 after upgrading to wm6.1 of Biohazard cable / pc is total block. Before I left the blue screen of Biohazard. Today, after many restarts I managed to bring up the black screen with writing "Device clean boot ...... reset to factory default !!"""". I attacked the usb to PC for power and possible connections to the PC . But an hour has not changed and the computer screen does not acknowledge it. What do I do ????? Greetings Raphael. Translated from Italian by Google.
Oh Poor dib,
Mate this handset seems to me is identical to O2 Atom phone. So its better if you just check out a similar thread catering to Atom users. Try Wiki if it can help. We are users of Atom life which is not the phone which you are asking about. I could have helped you had it been an HTC phone which I used for long time. But this is my first O2 phone so can't help much. Hope someone knows about this problem comes out with its solution. Good luck brother.

Just out of curiosity, do you have an external storage card inserted?
I inserted a 1gb miniSD from FAT32.
I think you have not followed the instructions carefully. Follow the instructions by formatting card & setting the file type to fat16 or fat on your PC or with the help of any pocket pc application. Then you need to copy the file[xxx.DIO] on your memory card[not in any folder] Just reset the device pressing record[in right middle side] along with stylus in the softreset hole[in the left botton side]

3.Copy the file on the memory card[not to any folder in it]
Hope the guide will help you & you will have no problems in updating the phone reply if there is any problem.

Unclear on what the conclusion was did it work ? just stopped recognizing your 2 gig
I think it is the same driver as this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3682752&postcount=5
yes this post and more from ipmart threads ,its strange i guess htc magician or wizard might have got a sdhc driver and wm6.1 so we should be given drivers too ,(not a petition though) someone with deeper knowledge of hardware might help all prophet users.i even used PE Explorer to open these dll files but couldn't understand them. the cabs have some registry settings i gues those are device specific. so we need a parallel device of same architecture and chips.
htc universal too had such problems solved in threads below

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\SDHC]
"Dll"="omap850_sdhc.dll" exists in dudexx 6.5 roms from chj china may be again ask chinese help here.
various omap850_sdhc.dll exist in sizes 31kb 33 kb 36 kb 42kb point is which one to use.
translate this one http://www28.discuss.com.hk/archiver/?tid-1188186-page-14.html and a dopod 818 pro user here says he replaced 36kb file with 31 kb to solve sdhc problem of omap850_sdhc.dll even though 31kb file meant slow transfer rate. but he didn't post the file there.
there must be some dll repositary.
very important thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376014 says hc in omap850_sdhc.dll means not high capacity but host controller but the actual SD card drivers are sdbus.dll and sdmemory.dll.
msdn http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa918430.aspx might help

I dont know anymore. Long time ago. Cloudyfa give me other patch. And it wont work too. So maybe we should accept it, that our device can't support SDHC.
Jam sdhc is now supported
if JAm could support sdhc... the problem appears not to be related to hardware, but driver or firmware. with many devices driver has worked.

jam uses xscale cpu while prophet uses omap 850 cpu although in theory this cpu supports sdhc but maybe not many prophet users are making noise about it ,thats why no one's bothered.
no this one is already in the zip i provided ,none till now works. keep up the hope.someday a prophet will come to give us our prophets solution.
anyone got some news about sdhc support ,been long time now?
